And yeah, Tsutaja's as smug as Mijumaru is knight-y, isn't it? Honestly, the fandom jokes aren't THAT spectactular, and I definitely know I'm not alone when I say this, considering how anything in Pogeymanz = Bait for polarizing opinions.

It's not really being lazy...? I mean, by that logic, no one should use any name that goes over 7 characters. Heck, Chikorita's name is the same as its Japanese one, it's beyond 7 characters, and yet no one used a fanname for it. Even in the beginning of 4th gen, nary a thing had a fanname, really. ... What changed since those 4 years, eh?
 
I actually wouldn't be surprised if the typing went like this

Grass/Flying
Fire/Fighting
Water/Ice

That would make every starter SE against each other, like in the current generation. But those types would just suck.

Well, it is partly because I haven't actually learned smugleaf's japanese name. Part of my thinking is that they are (hopefully) going to change it anyway for english language versions, and smugleaf is easier to remember.

Though I know they aren't changing Reshiram and Zekrom's...
 
... Actually, looking at Pokabu's line now... It reminds me definitely of art based around Greece. Like, Pokabu's mid-stage's "clothes" appear similar to the toga that it's Hercules, in a sense. Not sure if that means anything about what Pokabu's line's based on, but eh, it's somethin', no?

It's the Grass-type starter in Isshu, based off some sort of snake. The name's from some *chan fandom that eventually spread all over the Internet, because of its apparent "smug" looks, as shown below.

i'm picking water for sure. grass, i'm not sure, but i'm not picking fire. NOT picking fire. i can set Pumbaa on fire and call it a Pokemon.

but here's to them being fake *raises beer cup*

Yep, there's an NPC that switches the alphabet set. I don't believe it is confirmed WHERE said NPC is, but in your case, you don't need him; the game's default setting is hiragana and katakana, as said before.
 
I'm guessing that the types will be:

Grass/Electric
Fire/Dark
Water/Ghost

GF just wouldn't make a Dragon-type starter poke. Dragons are meant to be exclusive and rare and all. Fire/Fighting again would totally suck balls, and Water/Ice is way too common anyhow. I suppose it could be Water/Rock, but that would just be terrible without an insane stat spread.
 
Katakana is very similar to hiragana and is generally used for foreign words anyways. Many of the characters are just "sharper" in katakana. Just keep a chart to get up to speed if you need to.
 
I'm loving the 1st Evolutions of the starters, but the fully evolved ones don't look right. The thing on BeardWotter's head looks out of place. Blazing Ham looks pretty Greek, like a Greek pot... maybe it will be Fire/Rock?

This is Game Freak, the same game company that is about as troll-filled as Tite Kubo. They can break as many trends as they wish, despite how illogicial it may seem.
 
God that pig. I hate it. I hate it so much, and if it's fire/fighting I'm going to hate it even more. Smuglord is great and I have a feeling Wotterking will grow on me, even though it's a HUGE change from the first two in it's line. As for typing, I'm going with:

Sumglord: Grass
Pignite: Fire/Fighting
Wotter: Water/Ice

In other words, terrible, boring types. I hope I'm wrong.
 
Wow, I really hope those starter evolutions are fake (I still think so, the Pokabu evolution is a Rhyperior/Magmortar mix, and the water just doesn't seem to fit).

Those are comfortably the worst set of starters ever, if true, and I'm truly disappointed.
