Pokemon Masters

Another newsletter from the producer here, outlining future updates and improvements.

November to December: Increased gem rewards for log in bonus and clearing stories. More items to be given out as well.
By mid-December: Level limit increased to 120. This means there will be a super expert stage to farm materials. Current farming stages will have their rewards changed as well, hopefully for the better. New event that features a trainer with a legendary Pokemon. This trainer will be obtainable via the event to join your team.
By late December: Improved coop tempo and game balance (i.e. game will be made easier so you can clear stages with Pokemon you like rather than just the strongest Pokemon.) Daily missions, daily and monthly exchanges will be updated. Weekly bingo mission to be implemented as well.

Last night, there was an update that increased the level limits. The new level limits are 120 for 5*, 115 for 4*, and 110 for 3*. Super Expert areas will be added with the new materials required on Thursday.

The new legendary has confirmed to be Solgaleo! No info on the partner yet but i hope its the sun protag
Elios would make the most sense, yeah.
And Selene would get Lunala

I wonder who would get Necrozma. One of the ultra recon guys, I guess?

In before they give Solgaleo & Lunala to two different versions of Lillie (Lunala going to her "Reserved Form", Solgaleo going to her "Z-Powered Form").

As for who will have Necrozma, one of the Ultra Recon Squad members would make sense (probably Phyco; if I were to give the other members a Pokemon I'd say Dulse would have Stakataka, Soliera would have Blacephalon, and Zossie will start with a Poipole).

That wouldnt make sense, canonically nebby is given to the protag in ewch version. How would she run into another?

Quick question, when you get a variation of a character, can you use both on a team or does the game prevent you using different versions of the same character (like Brock with Synga Suit Brock or Rosa & Siebold with their holiday versions)?

As for why Lillie would have them back, the player would have given them back to her for this competition. Besides they seem to want the main protags use the Starters.

You can't use both

I don't play the game but I enjoy seeing what trainers they decide to add so...from the datamine, Solgaleo's trainer is
You!
The name is a placeholder "hero" and there's a part where it searches for pronoun based on your gender

I also don't play this game, but I can't help but find it incredibly odd they seemingly haven't added any SWSH characters as a tie-in to those games' release. Leon with Charizard or the player characters with the Galar starters seem like obvious non-spoilery choices.

I assume they want the games to marinate a bit. After all those games are fresh out the oven, people might need more time to get attached to the cast.

That being said....sooner we get Opal the better. She's absolutely great, and we need more fairy types anyway

Guess who's battle themes are here... and just as awesome as ever:

Giovanni (went 20 years without his own theme and within a span of 2 years was suddenly given two. Oh, and since it's Giovanni YET AGAIN...)
Lance (DRAGONITE, HYPER BEAM! That aside, a neat little detail is I think it might have a bit of Dragon's Den mixed in)
Cynthia (Always with that piano, and I liked how they mixed in her encounter theme)

Right now there is a HUGE new year rally going on, where thereare 5 EXP training wvents, the Solgaleo event, and free gems up to 14 days, as well as the Cybthia and Lance banners with increased 5 star chance. In addition, a banner has appeared that will let you pick a 5 star of your choice from the pool of the first 10, on top as also being another 10 pull. Only catch is that its paid gems only.

But the event rewards are insane. Infinite striker fuel in solgaleo and tons of ways to get elite 4 notes and other goods to be able to get almost your entire library in top top shape. I somehow found over the last few days a way to bust the level caps of every 5 star i own, and am currently working towards the 4 and 3 stars. And the event lasts all the way to the 22nd!

If youve been absent for a while its the absolute best time to return.

I've finally gotten around to trading some of my materials and really, they need a max or at the very least, a +10 button. Trying to lower my Buff Blends stash from 7,020 to 615 is taking up too much time.

Huge updates coming soon.

Sync Grid

1576062638a5c16b28f474596a990d5e1a9c94d7fe01c6f1b8.png

  • To be implemented in the mid-January update, which I think is live now.
  • Requires the new item Sync Orb, which can be acquired in stages that show Orb Chance. Use the buddy move to get it.
  • Allows you to power up your Pokemon, including increasing stats, increasing power of buddy move, increasing power and accuracy of moves (HELLO DRAGONITE), and other passive skills.
  • Will only be available to three Pokemon at first: Pikachu, Torkoal, Infernape.
  • Sync Orbs may eventually be obtainable via events. Pokemon that join you via the main story may have their Sync Orbs obtained via exchange during training events.
  • Seel Sync Grid is planned for release late January.
  • The plan is to release 4 Grid per month.

New Legendary

1578295205bd76f5faf8cd3952dddafcbd737d2fa33beb9486.png

  • Event to be live late January.
  • Dragon type + Glacier = ..?
  • Event bingo mission that will reward Sync Orbs for this Pokemon to be implemented starting with this event.
  • Rock type attacks will be super effective against this Pokemon, so they recommend leveling up Tyranitar and Amaura.
  • The post also mentions moves that lower defense to be key to this event.

Upcoming Updates
  • Rewards from training events will allow you to increase the buddy move skill of your pairs that are obtained via the main story.
  • Buffs won't be debuffed when your opponent uses buddy moves (FINALLY).
  • EX challenges to be made easier.

Battle Villa
  • Solo mode that allows you to train up to 9 pairs per day.
  • Your opponents will depend on your own grade, or rank I suppose.
  • It'll be more challenging because status effects and support skills will also be important.
  • Battle Villa rewards will be given at certain ranks.
  • It will reset regularly, and you will receive gems based on your rank at the time of reset.
  • "Potential" will be rewarded as well. Similar to passive skills, it'll have certain effects when activated.

6-Month Anniversary
  • Takes place mid-February.
  • Battle Villa.
  • Story event renewal late February, will reward new items.
  • New training event featuring "that Pokemon".
  • A lot of new evolutions.
  • Chapters 22-24.

There are certainly plenty of legendaries that are weak to rock. Where do you get the Dragon + Glacier thing (which is certainly hinting at Kyurem)? And do we think we get Ghetsis as the sync pair? Tbh player + Solgaleo still feels a bit wierd.

There is a screenshot in the latest dev message, where you can see the receptionist talking about a dragon in a glacier.
That and the rock weakness, it's definitely Kyurem.

Sync Orbs look like a nightmare to farm, but I really like the bonus they provide. It will increase a lot the gap between clicker farmers and the rest though and that's a shame.

I wonder how they will balance the "Sync Moves don't reset your stats anymore" in future Ex Battles. I expect current Ex battles to become rather easy, probably all auto-able. But I'm fine with that, finding strategies that allow me to auto everything is my favourite part of the game.

Nurse クルティ mentions that an unknown dragon Pokemon has been found near the glaciers.

This. It's only a chance to drop each battle and you have to use the Sync Move to get them. It could be a while before Garchomp, Lycanroc, and Solgaleo get them, but I'm going to start farming for them nonetheless. They're a bit more difficult to get in coop battles even though they're more flexible in that they're not Pokemon-specific, but most coop battles end before I can use my Sync Move...

Btw, I can't find a rock type Pokemon whose moves will lower the opponent's defense, even though that's mentioned in the newsletter. Am I missing something?

I read it as a desperate plea to try and get us to use a non super effective Tech sync pair for something. (As in their intention was we'd have Rock Strike/Rock Strike/Tech comps)

Eevee to be released soon. Its Sync Move boosts all stats of its allies by 2 stages.

Huh, interesting, they paired Eevee with Leaf.

For those who don't know, there's this small background argument about whether Green and Leaf should be considered versions of the same character (such as Gold & Ethan) or two separate characters (like Kris and Lyra; which fun fact the manga combined into the same character though other media treats the two as separate characters). For a "small" snippet of the argument, you can read Bulbapedia's discussion tab for the character (though even on her main page you can see the effects of the argument as, though the page is called Green, the name above her is "Green/Leaf". Also note that whenever they're mentioning her in reference to FRLG (either plot synopsis or artwork) they use Leaf while in reference to Let's Go they use Green (also note the excluded any of the Gen I concept art that had her in them). This is not the case for other characters who got a rename like Ethan where the only instance of his old "Gold" name is for his manga counterparts and the default name suggestions for the Gen II games).

Of course what's odder still is that they chose Leaf/Green over Elaine, the female playable character from the Let's Go games who's often depicted as Eevee's partner. So does this mean the Let's Go characters aren't canon (even though something like that really shouldn't matter in Masters as it ignores the timeline)?

So I had no idea about any of that and decided to look it up. As it turns out, there were already rumors of this pairing back in early November last year, according to this page, though I can't find it myself. It was probably in the game data somewhere, because someone released the video below on December 25th last year:

【ポケマス】追加実装決定の「リーフ&イーブイ」能力がかなり面白い【ポケモンマスターズ】 10-30 screenshot.png

In this screenshot, we see its stats on the left: HP, ATK, DEF, SpA, SpD, Spe, bulk from top to bottom. Apparently its moves are Tackle, Iron Tail, and Potion.

【ポケマス】追加実装決定の「リーフ&イーブイ」能力がかなり面白い【ポケモンマスターズ】 10-53 screenshot.png

Its trainer move recovers the move gauge by 2 bars and increases Eevee's attack by 2 stages. Its first passive skill passes on its buffs to the Pokemon that swaps into its spot (basically Baton Pass) and its second prevents its stats from being lowered.

Its sync move actually recovers the move gauge by the same level of the sync move itself, i.e. level 1 -> recovers 1 bar, level 2 -> recovers 2 bars etc, as well as increases all stats of its allies by 2 stages. Here we already have the release date as January 22nd, i.e. tomorrow.

The "auto all Ex Battles" update is now live: the opponent won't remove your boosts with a sync move, and the difficulty of all pre-Conkeldurr Ex Battles was lowered. Since I'm pretty bad at this game, I'm glad I'll be able to auto the remaining gear (no seriously, I tried to beat some Ex stages by playing the game with NPC, I lost, I clicked on Auto, I won. What am I doing wrong?)

Datamine also showed the three next pairs:

Zinnia and Rayquaza, Steven and (Mega-)Metagross, Kukui and Lycanroc.
I'm especially interested in Metagross and its Bullet Punch (only in the mega form): a "fast move" that does not require the gauge, limited to three uses.

Zinnia and Rayquaza
That seems a bit OP. Also odd cause Rayquaza rejected Zinnia. I get Drake already had Salamence so she couldn't use it, but Zinnia could have been given Goodra as only other notable trainers that uses it are Diantha and Shauna but they have other Pokemon they can use.
