Pokemon Platinum - The definitive thread: Mach 2 (In-Game Discussion)

Also, you don't need to catch Giratina now. If you run/kill/lose to it, you'll fight it again in Turnback Cave, after E4 (or getting the National Dex? I don't know).

But it's way cooler to SR for it (or at least catch it at first try) now. You know, Origin > Another.

Does anyone know, if you encounter it in Turnback Cave later on in the game, if its IVs/Nature are set to be the same as when you first fight it in Torn World? If that were the case, then you'd have to SR it first try if you wanted a good one.

No, they aren't. I have tested it already, and the same happens to the legendary trio in D/P. I believe it happens in any game since ADV, actually.

Have another question.

I don't know if this is just my game or not but everytime I go to check my FC, no numbers show up, it's just white. Nothing appears. =/

Do I have to do something for my FC to show up or somethin'? ;_;

Have you tried going online? Because you have to do that once to recieve your FC.

Does Gira keep its battle music and level when fought in Turnback Cave? Also does it use the same overworld sprite as it did in DP?

Interested to know if this rebattle thing works on the birds, Mesprit and Cress.

Okay, so, here's how my battle against the Battle Factory Brain went (warstory style!):

Flurries sends out Breloom (level 100)

Flurries' Breloom fainted!

Flurries sends out Porygon 2 (level 100)
Porygon 2 traces Mr. Mime's Filter/Own Tempo (can't read Japanese)
Mr. Mime uses Focus Blast!
Porygon 2 lost ~99% of its HP!
Porygon 2 uses Tri Attack!

Battle Factory Brain's Mr. Mime fainted!

Battle Factory Brain sends out Latios (level 100)
Latios uses Thunderbolt!
Porygon 2 lost 1% of its HP!
Flurries' Porygon 2 fainted!

FLURRIES FAILS!
I mean seriously, a specs'd Focus Blast from a Mr. Mime raped my team that was doing amazing until this point! I later found out via Battle Recorder that his last Pokemon was Registeel.

If anyone's interested, here are the movesets I got:

Breloom @ Toxic Orb
Effect Spore (lol)
-Dynamicpunch
-Thunderpunch
-Stone Edge
-Facade

Gastrodon @ Shell Bell
???
-Waterfall
-Earthquake
-Stone Edge
-Fissure

Porygon 2 @ ???
Trace
-Tri Attack
-Ice Beam

-Psychic

I hope you liked the format. :)

EDIT
: Does anyone know of a list that translates abilities? The serebii forum translation guide hasn't gotten to those yet. I would be helpful in the Battle Factory.

ok, got the nat'l dex, and i have mespirit on the run. what do i need to do to get cresellia? went to canalave, talked to everyone, but i still cannot go to full moon isle.

also, can i get the 3 birds now?

In DP you talk to the little sickly kid in the bed then you talk to his sailor dad and he takes you to Fullmoon Island.

did it change for Platinum? i talked to the boy and his mom, then i went down to the boat, but he only wanted to know if i wanted to go to first island.

So after losing another battle against the Factory Brain, this time against Mr. Mime's wife (Jynx), I managed to make my way to him again, but this time with a super awesome team!

Warstory style again!

Flurries sends out Garchomp (level 100)
Battle Factory Brain sends out Entei (level 100)

Garchomp used Earthquake!
It's Super Effective!
Entei's Shuka Berry weakened Earthquake's power...
Entei lost ~70% of its HP!
Entei used Fire Blast!

It's not very effective...
Garchomp lost ~20% of its HP!

Garchomp used Earthquake!

Its super effective!
Entei lost ~30% of its HP!
Entei fainted!

Battle Factory Brain sends out Altaria (level 100)
Garchomp used Outrage!
It's super effective!
Altaria lost 100% of its HP!
Altaria fainted!

Battle Factory Brain sends out Drapion (level 100)
Garchomp uses Outrage!
Drapion lost ~95% of its HP!
Drapion uses Night Slash!

Garchomp lost ~20% of its HP!

Garchomp's Outrage ended!
Garchomp became confused!
Garchomp cured its confusion with a Persim Berry!

Finally. >.<
Loads of fun though. For those who are curious, here was my team:

-Earthquake
-Crunch
-Fire Fang

Dragonite @ ???
-Draco Meteor
-Flamethrower
-Thunderbolt
-Surf

Swampert @ ???
-Aqua Tail
-Earthquake
-Hammer Arm
-Curse

I lost in the battle tower to a stupid Heracross after a streak of 90 or so wins. I guess I should have switched Honchkrow out against Flygon instead of letting Outrage activate its sash first turn, and I would have had something left to counter it at the end.

Honchkrow @Focus Sash
Drill Peck
Sucker Punch
Heat Wave
Superpower

Latios @Lum Berry
Outrage
Earthquake
Dragon Dance
Recover

Suicune @Chesto Berry
Surf
Ice Beam
Calm Mind
Rest

Anyone know what kind of Ivs the battle tower pokemon have?

Is it possible to SR for the birds or are the nature/ivs set as soon as you talk to Oak?

Whats a good pokemon to use in the Battle Stage?

Also, what do the battle roulette symbols mean? I'm so confused about whats going on.

There is a certain pre-release tidbit that has remained unexplained: One of the early videos on this page (the sixth video from the bottom, specifically the part starting at 02:49) shows two players engaging in a Battle Tower multi battle. There is a fairly clear implication that the communication is done over Wi-Fi; the two players create communication at the Wi-Fi Club and are transported to the Battle Tower together.

Since the game's release, it has been confirmed that all five Frontier facilities have a multi battle mode, but I haven't seen it stated anywhere that it supports Wi-Fi. However, it is known that the Battle Tower's multi battle mode no longer allows single player gameplay (the computer-controlled tag partners are absent). One would think that the multiplayer mode would be accordingly expanded, as suggested by the pre-release video, but wouldn't this have been discussed already had it been the case?

Could anyone please check if the Wi-Fi Club now supports Battle Frontier-related communication? For that matter, are regular multi battles between four players available (they weren't in Diamond and Pearl)?

On an unrelated note, has anyone noticed if the Wi-Fi Battle Tower data is shared between Diamond/Pearl and Platinum? It is hard to verify if the same server is used, but it should be sufficient to test how abundant Platinum-exclusive moves have become in the Diamond/Pearl Wi-Fi Battle Tower.

I have a question for any Platinum owners: do the link battles offer a level up option this time like wifi battles do?

I'm pretty sure that IVs are random, but nature, EVs, moveset, etc. are predetermined.

Hey, Serebii says I can keep my items in the Battle Castle but they disappear between streaks for me. How do I get them back? Do I have to re-buy them?

I don't mean to stack questions, but would anyone know if it's possible to get into the Underground using a ROM? I keep getting an error message, and I can't imagine what the problem would be.
