Pokemon Platinum - The definitive thread: Mach 3 (Competitive Discussion)

Especially since it can trick Black Sludge, which would restore HP.

Pory and Trick are awesome too. Now it can trick scarf, set up on switch, and sweep.

@Gorm-- Yes, my game also shows hypnosis at 60%

On that note, I claim the best Gengar on smogon:

Timid Gengar
28 / 21 / 30 / 31 / 31 / 31
-Trick
-Hypnosis
-Hidden Power Ice 68
-Shadow Ball

booyah xD

thanks but i know what the ingame text says. i was wondering if it could be a typo since that means cart->cart battles are messed up and wondering if anyone could produce raw data in platinum

also black sludge hurts steels

;X

Why are people hyping Outrage on things like Nidoking? It locks them in, and usually they'll have something more powerful anyways. Do you see any Outrage Charizard/Tyranitar at all?

Superpower is not much use on Murkrow (IMO safe enough to assume it gets it), I did some calcs:

Against normal (wall) Bronzor: 48%-60% with LO for the first hit... 32.00% - 40.00% for the second... with Oran it is a 4KO at best.
Dark Pulse is a 2KO. Sucker Punch is a 3KO.
Not much use.

However for CB it can hit the Rock/Steels well.

Lolz

Bullet punch on Scizor

40+STAB+Technician+SD+130Base Att+LO

I think Scizor just replaced Lucario as the best priority user

I am so happy that gengar got these new tricks in platinum =D Trick/knock off!? awesome! Icy wind is cool too. I always wonder why it couldn't learn it in the previous generations when the dex says that gengar chills the surrounding air or something like that to signal its presence. The 55 bp doesn't cut it though =\ Best case scenario is when scarfed heatran switches into icy wind and gengar can then focus blast for the kill.

ChouToshio, Golbat can't learn knock-off? Try again when yours evolves into crobat maybe?
And that's an awesome gengar! how long did it take you to breed it?? Someone on smogon traded me an hp ice gengar last year and I am not sure if it is legit or not. Was that you who gave me that? XD (ChouToshio, are you also a gengar/crobat fan like me?)

Gorm: There's no way I will test hypnosis 100 times... =P

Well, Lucario got some neat tricks, so He may see more useage as well.
This scizor is just fucked though.

Also, I heard Darkrai get nasty plot... really?

Superpower is not much use on Murkrow (IMO safe enough to assume it gets it), I did some calcs:

more like night slash bronzong and superpower tar who resist both your stabs.

nothing resists dark/fight except heracross/toxicroak.... GET IT???

I don't care about hypnosis anymore (most reliable way is to ask someone to hack into the game data and see if hypnosis's accuracy has really changed)! One move with low accuracy is enough (focus blast). Gengar has other things to play with - trick! (still hoping for nasty plot though!) Can somebody check if gengar can learn thunderwave now? I mean it can learn t-punch, t-bolt, and thunder... why can't it learn thunderwave?

outrage on kingdra is bleh, salamence still does physical sets better. though i'll admit, CB kingdra in the rain is pretty scary

i'm more excited about flygon though, two immunities and stellar double STAB w/ outrage...

No hype for Flailigatr? :(

Feraligatr @ Leichi/Salac
EVs: 36 HP/ 216 At/ 252 Spe
N: Adamant/Jolly
Flail
Waterfall
Substitute
Swords Dance/Dragon Dance

Although it just seems like Feraligatr is being even more of a Gyarados wanna-be, he gets two advantages: Torrent, and Swords Dance. Torrent will make Waterfall even stronger, and Swords Dance works well with maxing out Speed and Salac berry. Or, you could have Dragon Dance, with more attack EVs, but it just comes down to the age old question of speed, or power?

I did say Murkrow for a reason. I am talking about Little Cup.
Bronzong, Tar, Heracross, and Toxicroak. None of those matter.

Murkrow's sets are quite different from Honch.

Yeah, as soon as I can get this golbat to stop being so emo (lol) I'll try again with crobat (and yeah, I'm a crobat fan though I have no experience with him in battle).

As for my Gengar, I only bred it a a couple months back, and have barely ever traded it (not that I'm not trading it, but no one asks for it oddly). I mean, you don't get much benefit from gengar having good defenses so I guess people don't feel like having to go out of the way to trade with me just for slightly better defenses on their gengar. But now it has trick. :P

Gah, if I only had a way to get Trick onto my Gengar, it'd beat yours. :P
I'm probably going to teach yours trick when I get the chance lol. Sounds like an interesting new move for it, step aside alakazam! This makes me think azelf will also get trick, which could again be interesting...

That'd be great. :)

If Azelf gets Trick as well, Alakazam's usage would probably drop.

Gamefreak must really hate Alakazam because trick was the last big thing the poor fella had going for him over Gengar, expect a huge drop in his usage.

Meh I'm dissapointed Close Combat and Flare Blitz weren't tutor moves. Flareon and Blaziken could've used those >_<.

Also it's about time Venusaur, a pokemon who got few diverse movesets unlike other starters in previous generation, to learn a decent dragon move, Outrage. Now if only Venusaur could use Dragon Pulse, Crunch, etc...

Btw guys, confirm if Sceptile and Blaziken can learn ThunderPunch. It would be weird if they didn't as seen in Emerald.

I don't see the point of stating that "Rampardos can now hit bulky waters without worrying about missing with Stone Edge" when you then go on to say that Fire Punch isn't of much use because Rampardos can already hit Steel types. Obviously it can already hit Bronzong with Earthquake; having Fire Punch just makes the guessing game a lot easier. Maybe I should have phrased my statement differently.

And "GG" Chris is me about totally effing up about thinking before posting.
