I kind of dislike how weather is now a huge factor in this year's VGC but I also like the addition of the non-event ubers.
Probably because I just like battling with Ho-Oh and Lugia :(

Awaiting the date of the Seattle stop.
How are you sure Seattle is going to be a location anyway? locations don't carry on to next year.

I am playing pbr right now and I'm battling pretty good teams. One thing i noticed was a scarfed Girantina and a latios. I just couldn't beat it. It would protect with latios and shadow force with Girantina. It was a good idea from the think of it now. Anyone else on pbr now?
I think it was more of being unexpected. Shadow force + choice scarf is a terrible combo.

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be. They're obviously increasing their location amounts so I doubt they'd cut it back.

Not to mention Nintendo of America is about an half an hour outside of Seattle.

It is not nintendo of america who is running this - it is TPCi. They are different companys as of 2004.

But you are right, TPCi HQ is in Bellevue WA so you are correct about it being in their backyard.

Snorlax or Tyranitar is the question ofthe day for me. Oh and younmever know where the stops will be, there was no new york stop last year. And how cpuld scark shadow force be horrible. Think of how you will almost never get hit and basically never miss.

so how are peoples teams coming along?
quite well actually, currently i have 4 teams i have been working on and i would be confident to go into a qualifier with any of them.
three of my four teams are running this beast
Tyranitar @ Iron Ball 252HP/252Atk/4SDef Brave (0 spd)
Fling/Rock Slide/Low Kick/Protect
saved my ass more times than i can count

And how could scarf shadow force be horrible. Think of how you will almost never get hit and basically never miss.
I guess I'm thinking more of the fact that it takes 2 turns to actually be used, so it's predictable. Ex. dialga switching in on it. and the dialga user can do something like predict a switch, etc.

Just saying; don't be 100% sure that Seattle is going to be one of the stops.

@LORD_NIGHTMARE that tyrannitar set looks interesting... how exactly does it work? if you don't want to reveal your plan that's fine :P

I see TPCI putting around 12 stops leading up to the Nationals. They give us about 3-4 weeks of playing HG/SS and then they start the events. Hopefully putting more then one stop in the east -___-. And I'm guessing that tyranitar is for trickroom, but if you don't get your trickroom up then won't he just get dropped? I was thinking of making my own Tyranitar but a jolly one with choice scarf. Then I would just be playing for the flinch hax with rock slide.

The location for U.S. nationals has been announced:

The 2010 U.S. National Championships happen this June!

Pokémon Organized Play is pleased to announce that the 2010 U.S. National Championships will take place June 25th through June 27th at the Indiana Convention Center, located at 100 South Capitol Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana 46225.

The Indiana Convention Center, located in the heart of downtown Indianapolis, offers competitors and spectators a variety of accommodations and meal options with nearly a dozen hotels within walking distance and even more restaurants nearby to fit any budget. All of these are just minutes from the front door of what is sure to be the biggest Pokémon tournament of the year.

We look forward to seeing all of you in Indianapolis this summer!

Looks like I might end up going straight to Nationals again this year.
At least Indianapolis is about 100 miles closer to Chicago than St. Louis.

Looks like a great place for Nationals. I just hope they have a qualifier near me and they'd better have improved the entry method.

mm-hmm, me too. '08 was an online quiz (not a bad idea, compared to the lottery) and last year was the lotto. They can't realistically do first come, first serve, since people would just camp overnight. Lottery won't be TERRIBLE if they increase the player cap to, say, 256, and make the Giveaway Pokemon a separate event - last year, if you wanted the Shiny Milotic, you had to register for the tournament.

I'm hoping I get in one of the regional qualifiers, and that there's also one near me (NY, Boston, Philly); I certainly won't be driving to Nationals though - I mapquested it, and it's 10 hours, 54 minutes. Factor in traffic, need to piss, eat (lunch/dinner/possibly breakfast), and stops for gas, and that's about 14 hours. It might not be cheaper to fly from Scranton to Indianapolis, but it would definitely take less time. :)

There needs to be a NY or CT event. That fact that it was in Philadelphia (as in, the closest one to me) killed my opportunity to go. I'd like one more northeast this year.

This isn't against you personally so I hope you don't take it this way, but I really hope they don't have a last chance lottery or something similar this year at nationals. It really defeats the point of going to a qualifier when you can just skip everything and go straight to Nationals(especially for those lucky enough to live within decent driving distance). It cheapens the value of the invitations that the winner's get at the qualifier knowing that somebody can just go right up in Indiana and get in without the potential cost of getting to and winning a qualifier. Of course, this largely depends on what the entrance method is and how many people they give a Nationals invite at each qualifier; if they invite more people to nationals from each location, the chance of somebody getting in via last chance lottery at the nationals goes down. Of course, if they have a lottery again at a qualifier and I don't get picked(again......), I might be wishing they have a last chance lottery at nationals, haha.

In TCG we have 710 people participating, but none camp out because they don't let them. Usually it's a convention center and there's guards.

i really hope they have some better ways of being chosen to play.

but just incase ill bring some extra money to buy someones winning ticket and ill bring my bro and 2 friends so if they make it they can let me instead seeing as they dont play the game.

I don't know, but it seems more fair than "there's a big tourney in your home town but you gotta drive 19 hours across the country to qualify, bitches!". That and opening it up to the public is inevitably going to garner more support than if it was just open to the top 32-64 qualifiers (tops), not to mention it would be more cost efficient for them to just have one or two people qualify from each regional.

Regardless it really just comes down to semantics imo. If we called the regionals "national invitational qualifiers" or something this probably wouldn't even matter.

Well, they could always have it like the TCG and have a "last chance qualifier". In the TCG, there's a tournament at Worlds the day before the actual event. ~10 spots per age division is given at this LCQ. They could do the same at Nationals - since it's a day longer, there could be an Indianapolis qualifier the day before Nationals.

I agree with PBB too, think if you had to win a tournament already, then you have to go Nationals and you lose to someone who hasn't done anything isn't very fair.

It's not really fair to those who have already won a tournament. I understand that if you're "hoping to be the best" and win the tournament you should be able to defeat most of your opponents. But still, I don't think that people should be at the same level as someone who has won a previous tournament.

Nah you guys are all wrong.

European countries have a single tournament each. If you live in the middle of nowhere then tough luck for you. USA is just lucky in that they've got invitationals in more obscure regions of the country. If you so happen to lose to a random that got in via random drawing at the nationals then quite frankly it means that you deserved to lose. That's all there really is to it.

Last chance qualifiers the day before could work, but they aren't necessary.

I'm stoked to see the national tourney's in my home state... This way I can crash the night before at someone's so I don't have to get up at 4 A.M. like I did last year.

Is Soul Dew going to be banned? If not, Lati@s ftw.

It should be as the rules announced where ADDITIONS to last year. And seeing how Soul dew was banned last year, it will be this year as well.

In shoddy they don't have double battling yet right? I want to test my team out before I put to much time into making it.

Correct, Shoddy Battle does not have double battles available. Netbattle Supremacy does, however, and most of the glitches on NBS have been fixed.

Anyway, I am pretty excited for the tournaments this year, as even if there is not a regional nearby, I will most likely be able to make it to Nationals (only 9 1/2 hours one way!)

EDIT:
How likely does anyone think there will be a NY or CT qualifier? I know Connecticut is highly unlikely, but I'm sure New York is in the running.

If tPCI was being entirely reasonable in their selection of qualifier locations, then New York City would definitely be one of the stops. I personally think there should be at least 2 qualifiers on/near the East Coast, due to the massive population compared to other areas of the country. I would think that they would want the highest attendance possible for each event, so they should place them in densely populated areas like New York, LA, Chicago, etc.
