Post Hardcore / Screamo / Hardcore / Deathcore / anythingcore / etc.

this post is more from the punk end of the spectrum i guess

MOSS ICON

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPeP09FV3tk 'hardcore' or 'emo' or something. to listen is to resurrect. spoken word ire at its finest, i can only imagine the fey, terrifying lustration that took place at their live shows. huge dudes crying into each other's arms and stuff.

PISSED JEANS

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BstpFV98mRg

probably the best video of 2010. i really like king of jeans despite not liking any of their earlier stuff. posers beware??? pure anthemic apathy, the whole album is so relatable it feels like someone from your neighborhood wrote it.

XBXRX

this is music as confrontation. with the self, with authority figures, with those you love. they are moving their limbs according to the old ways, sounds are coming out of their instruments, and those sounds bring no good tidings. it's also worth noting that lauryn hill is a huge fan of this band, and that's kind of incredible.

HUGGY BEAR

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ye6qklNclYs

i am genuinely convinced that this song is the only good thing to come out of the riot grrl movement, which makes me feel mysogynistic since they were probably the only band in said movement with a male vocalist ?_? the ending is so rife with catharsis you'll be purged of toxins you were unaware you hosted

LOST SOUNDS

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ureE5K30voE

this is post-something. jay reatard's band before he went solo, and then uh, died. the vocals remind me a bit of young machetes-era blood brothers which i am not afraid to admit i'm still a little bit keen on even though i did in fact graduate high school. the synth makes the baleful squeals somehow sound cute. CUTECORE

I think that's the first good thing I've heard about Phantom on the Horizon. :/

Never did like Underoath or DGD

I hated Scurrilous so much actually. <:C

Seriously? Weird, Phantom's either my second or third favorite album. It's a toss-up between it and Kezia. Pinkerton by Weezer is my favorite, but that's irrelevant in this thread.

And yeah, the more I listen to Scurrilous, the more it grinds against me. I only really ever listen to "C'est la Vie", "Hair-Trigger" and "Sex Tapes". It really disappointed me after Fortress and Kezia.

Bumping this thread for great justice, hardcore gets like, no reppin' at all in the 2011 Music thread, but let me just say that Wildlife by La Dispute kind of destroys. It's nothing special as far as technicality goes, but they've got a very specific tone and their songwriting is top-notch. I'm definitely hoping for a larger progression between this and their next album though, because I doubt they can keep it up without changing at least moderately.

Pinkerton is great, but yeah.

I think other than Wildlife my favourite release this year that's remotely 'hardcore' is Bad Happy by Bubblegum Octopus. I know that a band named Bubblegum Octopus writing electro-twee-grind-bullshit sounds sceney as fuck, and it probably is, but it's sooooo good. Dance beats, zany stop and go rhythms, eclectic vocals, proggy synth lines. It's pretty wild. :/

Oh and Circle Takes the Square's new thing... Idunno, I think I'm going to wait for the full album to listen to it more, it just didn't hit me like I hoped it would.

That's probably because CTtS is an unbelievably bad band.

As far as good new stuff goes, I've been disappointed by most new releases but up-and-coming band The Bunny The Bear looks very promising. Note: If you look up TBTB, expect to be weirded out at first, but give them a second chance. Most people who give them a second chance realize that they like them

Okay I'm just going to ignore this post because you and me CLEARLY do not have the same taste in hardcore oh my god.

ON ANOTHER NOTE; I'm seeing BTBAM with Animals as Leaders tomorrow, should be fun. I haven't listened to either in forever though, too much prog wank for me to enjoy casually these days.

i personally didn't think much of wildlife but then again i didn't listen to it much aside from king park. also the CTTS EP is shit.

for 2011 stuff i've been digging Beau Navire - Life Moves / Hours and Ampere - Like Shadows (15 songs in 13 minutes, which is a bit dumb) but yeah this year has been a bit barren for this kind of stuff. touché amoré's new stuff is like LD but if you know the latter then you probably know the former so whatever.

I'll probably check out Ampere, I've developed quite the hankering for really short screamo albums over the last little while. :O

Does anyone here listen to Snowing? They were my favourite twinkly emo band and now they're gone. Thursday and Thrice called it quits this month too. It'd be more disappointing if they were still as good as they used to be, I'm just holding out for more United Nations stuff now. (It's still pretty disappointing though :/)

young machetes is one of the only albums i listened to in high school that i still consider to be aesthetically meritorious

there's something unsettling and ill-boding about it, and the lyrics are even more mature than i remember them being five years ago

Dead By April is the only Metalcore/Screamo band I truly love. Jimmie, their screamo, is just so amazing. Definitely something worth my time and it is also my 3rd most favorite band. :3
