Rarely Used (RU) Tier

Porygon Z may be a beast, but Tinted Lens Yanmega is practically auto-win after a SmashPass in this tier.

Kind of a bummer they nerfed Simple though, because a SmashPass to Bibarel would be awesome, and Simple Nume(lol) would be more lol-y with a SmashPass.

Wait is Cresselia RU? O_o Woah, 120/120/130 defenses in a tier that low...

I guess with the prevalence of Yanmega and Venomoth that hurts her usage, but anyone have calcs for a Specs/+1 Bug Buzz against a Calm 252/252 Cressy?

It's a huge amount of damage, but that's not the point. The point is, once those things are gone, it's almost impossible to kill a Cresselia, especially if it has a way of removing status from itself. Therefore, it's still like the 3rd or 4th most used Pokemon in the tier.

252 SpAtk Choice Specs Yanmega Bug Buzz vs 252 HP/252 SpDef Cresselia: 60.81% - 71.62%
2 hits to KO (with Leftovers)

252 +1 SpAtk Life Orb Venomoth Bug Buzz vs 252 HP/252 SpDef Cresselia: 60.81% - 71.62%
2 hits to KO (with Leftovers)

Crawdaunt. 'Nuff said. The only thing Crawdaunt fears from Cress are status and Charge Beam. Status is remedied by using Sub, and who uses Charge Beam on Cress?

Is Crawdaunt even fast enough to get a sub up against Cress to protect from status?

Actually yes. Adamant max Speed Crawdaunt outspeeds 0 Speed Cresselia, even at +0

Edit: To be more specific, Cresselia has to run 12 Speed EV's to tie with Adamant max Speed, and you have no chance with Jolly unless you're running Timid Cresselia with a lot of Speed investment, which is stupid.

Cress will have to run a good amount of speed EVs to outspeed Jolly Crawdaunt. Jolly Crawdaunt is the prefered nature because it outspeeds Base 105s such as Scyther after one DD. It still OHKO or 2HKOes pretty much everything so no power is lost.

Does anyone know how good Seismitoad is? He is one of my fav pokemon design wise and ingame he is a beast, but I have trouble using him in RU. Any GOOD sets that could work for the boom-box Frog?

Seismitoad is outclassed by Gastrodon and Quagsire.

He doesn't get any stat up boost, not even Work up, he doesn't get a physical Water Stab either and he's got fairly low to middling speed.

He's one of the few 5th generation Pokemon that gets rest talk so possibly a rest talk set but I don't think he's bulky enough and doesn't have any phazing moves.

He could work on a Rain team with Swift Swim but other Swift Swimmers Out class him in terms on sweeping force like ludicolo.

He does have a immunity to electric attacks on Swift Swim team which is nice but not enough that I would give him a team slot, I'd rather use ludicolo or Golduck.

If I had to use him maybe a Choice Scraf/Specs set, apart from that, nothing is really standing out for him, if only his DW ability was released but even then he still outclassed.

And he doesn't get Ice Beam to his grass pokemon, he has to rely on either poison moves or HP-ice

I haven't ever used a Seismitoad in RU (though my in game one is a beast), but looking at its stats and movepool it is really hard to find a use, even in RU. I would say your best shot would be to make it a rain sweeper with Swift Swim. 85 Attacking stats are below average, but rain boosted STABs always hurt. I would probably go special over physical, if only due to the higher powered STAB in Hydro Pump. Additionally, its special movepool, while not huge, has decent, high powered coverage options. It has STABB Earth Power, as well as Focus Blast, Grass Knot and Sludge Wave. Shame it doesn't get Ice Beam though.

It might end up being outclassed by other Rain sweepers, but that is probably the role it is best suited to, and if it can sweep, why should you care if someone else can do it better.

I'm thinking a set like this that MIGHT work:
Seismitoad@ life orb/choice specs
Timid/ modest 252 SP attk EVs & 252 Spd EVs
Moves:
Hydro Pump
Slime Wave
Earth Power
Grass Knot/ Focus Blast

Using Seismitoads main special attacks you basically hit as hard as you can with your moves and don't let up anything. I would give it water absorb so it can survive for longer in battle.

Seismitoad is a BOSS in-game.

But competitively, he just has a horrible movepool for no apparent reason, and it makes him difficult to use.

Kind of funny that while seismitoad is a beast ingame it kinda sucks in actual tiers. Guess I'll have to keep on sweeping with stuff like Super fang Raticate and MOODY Glalie......EPIC LOL
Still thinking of using seismitoad though to see if it can do anything. On another note, Baffafuron is an awesome pokemon to use and it has some nice potential with its moveset. I've also had some decent success with Sheer force LO braviary. It usually get one or two kills in before going down.

This may just be me being confused by your phrasing, but you are aware that Moody is banned from Uber's right?

Clearly you never got the chance to use Moody when it was allowed. I would even say it's more broken than...well, anything. I'd take a Moody Pokemon over an Arceus.

Lol ya I never got the chance to use moody, and I would understand things like octillery being banned, but GLALIE? Wow. Looks like the one thing that could have made him actually decent got wasted. All he can do now is use ice body under hail with snover.

People kinda got fed up with the entire ability once they started getting swept by Bidoofs just because they had this ability. You know, Bidoof, the pokemon with 62.5% of Glalie's total stats, 45/35/31 offenses, and 59/40/40 bulk. That Bidoof, the guy who proved this ability was possibly more broken than a huge power Slaking.

Yeah, as soon as you started getting evasion boosts with Moody and you were able to get up subs and protects until you basically had +6 in every single stat...it was just plain nuts.

Lv1 Smeargle is an absolute force to behold. Given a good player at its helm, this thing will gladly and assuredly cripple 2-3 pokémon on your opponents team, or at least kill one. I've been using it all day and the only cases where it was underwhelming were cases where I didn't use him as a lead. Otherwise, it can eliminate one of the opponent's pokémon almost certainly if they aren't prepared for it. Just pair it up with Honchkrow to finish off the pokémon crippled by Endeavour (Honch also benefits from Smeargle's Trick Room) with Sucker Punch, Pursuit and Brave Bird for an easy Moxie boost. [CP'd from the Threat List thread]

To elaborate, here's the set I'm using

Smeargle (lv1) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Own Tempo
EVs: 252 Spe
Timid Nature (+Spe, -Atk)
- Trick Room
- Spore
- Endeavor
- Dragon Rage

This is about as good as dedicated leads come in Gen 5. Always Trick Room first unless the opponent either carries priority (eg Entei) or is likely to use Taunt (Electrode? idk), as not only does it set Smeargle up to "sweep" but it can also provide team support should you need to switch out. Next just hit something with Spore, so long as it's not a Sap Sipper. Then use Endeavor; if the opponent stays in you can just switch to a Pursuiter or use Dragon Rage, if they don't you've just crippled two of the opponent's pokémon. Dragon Rage should only be used should you be sure the opponent is staying in after being Endeavor'd, otherwise it wastes a precious Trick Room turn. Just keep doing this until Smeargle is threatened or you have a setup opportunity.

Thanks to Smeargle's general rhythm, the moveset accomodates the possibility of "sweeping" multiple times. Since Trick Room last five turns, which will usually be...

  1. Trick Room
  2. Spore
  3. Endeavor
  4. Dragon Rage
  5. Spore
You'll often be in a good position when Trick Room runs out, either guaranteeing more Trick Room or letting you Endeavor once more. When using Smeargle like this, the main threats are...

  • Sap Sipper pokemon like Bouffalant. If the opponent has one, don't bother Sporing, they might be onto you. Crippling the opponent with Endeavor is often good enough, especially since Bouffalant is naturally slow.
  • Pokemon with multi-hit moves, such as Rhyperior's Rock Blast. Needless to say, this ruins Smeargle if it hits.
  • Pokemon with priority, such as Entei's Extremespeed. You'll want to Spore right away here, then Trick Room the next turn.
  • Ghost types. Obviously outside of using Foresight over Dragon Rage (not recommended), you're not going to touch them.
However, outside these threats Smeargle can more or less guarantee a kill every game, or at least cripple a few of the opponent's pokemon.
