Resource RBY Simple Questions & Simple Answers Thread

The changes are recent and take time to update. If you're overtly going out of your way to complain, why don't you contribute to our development instead?
1. I know that. If I didn't, I would write this much earlier. But most of these revelations came months ago and important people already had opinions on them. The unbanning of the UUBL trio came months ago, so did the tier shifts of Victree and Slowbro. The Wrap one is excusable, but not the other ones.
2. I'm not a RBY conniseur, not even an OU one. I know these mistakes from browsing the dex when I'm bored. I barely have any opinions let alone analyses on these shifts. The responsibility is on you people, the moderators. I appreciate that you want people that like these tiers to possibly enlighten themselves on things they didn't know by writing analyses and possibly be future mods but for this tier, I'm not the person you guys want.

The UUBL Pokes still don't have a UU analysis

The UU page doesn't say that Wrap is banned, not even in the analysis of the pokes

I'm in the UU council. The Slowbro and Victreebel drops into RBY happened exactly a month ago and not a single official tournament game has been played with either of them yet in this new version of the tier. Any new analyses about them would be mostly speculation. Regarding the UUBL drops , the other UU mons dont have updated analyses either, due to the frequency of tiering changes such as the recent Wrap ban, there would be no point in writing analyses and having them go through QC and GP only for them to be out of date a few months later. Preferably the tier should remain in a consistent state for longer than a few months before writing lenghty analyses.

Thanks for clarifying that analyses about tiering changes like these take more than a month. I am aware that I might have overreacted and I understand the delay.

I will update that note to this for all analyses:

can we literally just reset uu ladder like the meta has changed like 7 times and the same few people at high elo achieved this in literally like 2021 or even earlier
its literally just not even the same tier so its not ridiculous to want this "special treatment" for this spotlight

You’re complaining to the wrong people, this is a PS thing that nobody can really make them change

I read a post saying that players with greater than 100 rating deviation are hidden from the ladder ranking, and if that's true then this is just a bug

I'm looking at the RBY community spotlight format vote, and Stadium Tradebacks isn't listed, despite being imo the 4th relevant version of G1. I know Stadium isn't nearly as popular as RBY, but I am curious to see if anyone would be interested in giving it a try?

mons with tradebacks moves will have a purple name on stadium that is not hideable (fails legality check) and no implementation for this exists on ps

I hope this is simple enough of a question: I HATE Electabuzz in RBY UU that is currently played under RoA Spotlight, what do I do with the bAHstard?! What is the usual algorithm? Paralyse it to make it slower than my attackers? Or is it worth to Hypnosis it? Switching a team member for a Golem or Tangela is not an option, I can't win with those guys at all! Please, help, I can't even reliably stay above 1200 rating!

if you can paralyze it itll die to a few hits
whether you paralyze or sleep dependa on a lot.
also you can use dugtrio/golem/tangela to mostly wall it (and spread atatus in tangela's case). victreebell also can work but if its running psychic might hurt a bit

Electabuzz is a really honest lead in the sense that it will usually get some sort of value from you in taking it down, but Mel is right that paralyzing it is oftentimes the way to go as it loses its most valuable stat in speed. Running your own Ebuzz makes the game into a handshake where you both risk the para, but protects your later game mons from being hurt by Buzz.

Tangela is a very good pokemon for other reasons than just Ebuzz, giving an amazing answer into Dugtrio and Raichu. Golem's having a bit of a harder time with all the water, ice, and even grass moves flying around, so I definitely get the hesitation there even though it's a pretty good normal answer still. Don't be afraid to try using different Pokemon to see what works for you, but don't be surprised if not using specific Pokemon creates issues into other specific Pokemon. Good luck and I hope you keep enjoying RBY UU!!

EDIT TWO MONTHS LATER: Tangela has fallen off considerably since people have started using Dragonite much more consistently + the special birds(Molt/Articuno).

I misread that as Chansey R34 and I got really scared for a second

Following a resurgence of interest I’ve had in RBY tiers lately and a previous post in the OU discussion thread that has since been deleted (and for good reason, I was admittedly being smooth brain) I was wondering if there was a link or invitation could find to, say, an RBY Discord should you be okay with me joining. If there is an invitation link I cannot seem to find it, that is all. I find that I tend to enjoy the more structured nature of Past Gens than playing the modern generation since, at least in my opinion, modern tiers don’t have that much time for metas to settle before tier shifts and suspect tests. I may end up extending this same question to other generations too like I did for GSC a while back. Completely unrelated side note, but it helps that one of my favorite Pokémon duos in Past Gens (Starmie + Cloyster) is viable both here and there, as starting in ADV Cloyster, uh… kind of died, to put it nicely? what gaining competition as a spikes setter does to a mf

Hello bdt! Always lovely to see your passion on the forums. There's a link to the server right here (small and easy to miss). Hope to see you there!

Dear RBY community,

I was recently watching a YouTube video from Jrose11. He uses Mimic as part of his Electrode build. It allows him to choose which move he gets rather than picking a random move. Pokemon Showdown does not implement the same behavior - it simply picks a random move. I am wondering if this is the desired/correct behavior?

Here's an example of where he does it:

This would make the move a lot more useful in competitive as you can target which move you want to steal.

Sincerely,
Vel

Hey there! Mimic actually functions differently in single player battles than it does in link battles (which is what Showdown attempts to emulate). In single player, you get to pick the move. In link battles, the move is selected at random. So it does function on Showdown as intended! I haven’t watched the video you linked but based off your post I hope that that answers your question. Let me know if I misunderstood.

In the future, you can report any suspected bugs in the bug report thread in this forum (but make sure to do your research first!). Regardless, welcome to Smogon!
