REGIONAL EVOLUTIONS 2: PALDEAN BOOGALOO
Welcome to the new and improved Regional Evolutions Pet Mod! This is the unofficial sequel to the now-defunct Gen VIII Regional Evolutions pet mod, the very first pet mod I ever participated in and the one I've still had the most success with, which was concluded before the release of Generation IX and everything that came with it. That pet mod was intended as an extension of a "Regional Variants" mod from the same generation, except that all submissions received an evolved form in the vein of a cross-gen evolution, or an alternate evolution to a regional variant of an unevolved Pokémon. It was rather successful for its time, but with the meta having changed with a new generation of canon games, I figured it was high time we got an updated version of this mod, so I figured it'd be nice to helm said updated version and help build up a new regional evo collection from scratch!

For the unfamiliar, a regional form, also known as a regional variant, is an alternate form of a Pokémon species that is found in a specific region; these forms differ from those found in the region where the Pokémon was introduced, usually even to the point of having a different type, and may also evolve into different Pokémon from their original counterpart, which may sometimes be unable to evolve normally. Regional forms were introduced in Gen VII, and regional evolutions in Gen VIII. It is the latter that we will be focusing on for this pet mod, and although the former will also be included for the sake of completeness, each and every sub for each slate of this pet mod will be required to have a regional evolution, even if the original 'mon was a standalone.

Some additional clarifications, quoth Samtendo09:

New Stage Evolutions
A new species that is part of the Regional line, essentially an extra evolution stage akin to traditional cross-generation evolutions. It cannot be given to a line that already have three stages and not recommended to anything higher than 485 BST.

Replacement Evolutions
Some Regional Variants instead evolve into a different Pokémon of the same stage instead of the usual one (example, Galarian Meowth evolves into Perrserker, not a Galarian Persian). Can be given to any line with two or three stages, but you cannot give the original evolution counterpart to anything with a Replacement Evolution. (I.E. Galarian Persian cannot be made as a counterpart of Perrserker.)

Slate Rules (modified from Samtendo09's rules for the Gen 8 Regional Evolutions pet mod):
  1. This is a Natdex micrometa, meaning we will only be including the winning submissions in the mod's meta. This is for the sake of easier judging of submission viability, though the submissions themselves will be assumed to have been introduced in Gen 9, if only for the sake of some stuff associated with canon 'mons such as egg groups and moves learned by breeding.
  2. You may submit for any legal line you’d like as long as you include either a New Stage Evolution or a Replacement Evolution. This includes Branched Evos, except for Eevee and Tyrogue themselves (their respective evolutions are okay). Any other branched evo line will count as a single submission (so feel free to make a whole Ralts line, for an example). Giving just a New Stage Evolution to a canon regional variant that doesn’t have one is also permitted.
  3. You may submit for up to a total of 6 evolutionary families. Adding a New Stage Evolution for a pre-existing Regional Variant or an accepted submission (preferably yours) counts as a full line.
    1. Two people may make a Regional Variant of the same evolutionary line, or a New Stage Evolution for a pre-existing or accepted submissions, as long as the two submissions are different from each other.
    2. Do not make a regional “counterpart” to an existing Regional Evolution (see this list for the full details), or any accepted New Stage/Replacement Evolutions.
    3. You also cannot submit an evolution of the original counterparts even if their regional variants have one. This is Regional Evolutions, not just Evolutions.
    4. If any of your submissions gets disqualified for being incomplete, I will try and find a future slate where each of them can fit and have it automatically submitted to that slate, provided that you complete it before the slate deadline. However, the maximum number of new submissions you can make for any slate that any previously incomplete entries of yours is auto-subbed to will be reduced by the number of your subs that are auto-subbed to this particular slate. You can also resubmit any previous entry of yours that didn't win a previous slate poll into another one in the future, provided that it fits the requirements of the slate, with the obvious exception of free slates. Some free slates may include certain conditions, though, so be sure to read the slate header and the additional requirements before submitting.
  4. You may vote for up to 7 evolutionary families per slate, and your votes should include both the family of your choice and the username (preferably without tagging them directly) of their creator. You cannot self-vote more than two submissions, and if you do self-vote, vote for at least three more submissions that aren't yours. In addition, please tag your self-votes or your entire vote collection will be rejected.
  5. Minimum BST for the New Stage Evolutions will be 500, with the maximum will be 600. However, try to aim for 500-530 BST range unless you have a good flavor reason for the New Stage Evolution to have a higher BST.
    • The net change for the BST must equal 0, and it's not recommended to change more than +/- 30 in any single stat. You cannot increase a Pokémon's higher attack/defense if the difference between both attacks/defense is more than 50. For example, Tauros has an attack "gap" of 60 (100 - 40), so you can't add to its higher Attack stat. You can deduct from it, however, to put toward other stats. Also, try not to go too crazy with boosting already powerful stats; Just because you can make a Tyranitar form with 164 base Attack doesn't mean you should. You may swap a Pokémon's stats before modifying them, but the gap rule still applies to the new higher stat. For New Stage Evolutions, you may add also up to +50 for any (and more than one) stat as long as the attack/defense gap isn’t more than 50.
    • Pokémon with a BST of 486 or higher should not be given a New Stage Evolution. Exception will be given for Regional Forms that are exceptionally poor in competitive scene, or that you honestly think it wouldn’t perform so well. Even then, consider a New Stage Evolution as an option in this case instead of mandatory. Otherwise a Replacement Evolution is always an option. Unlike the other rules starting from 3rd March 2022, this is not the hard rule anymore, but I do recommend to stick with the BST lower than 486 unless your submission have bad, bad typing, and will be judged by case-by-case basis.
    • Pokémon that is already a three-stage evolutionary line (i.e. Pichu to Raichu, Cleffa to Clefable) are not allowed to received a New Stage Evolution. However, a Replacement Evolution is always possible for these.
    • Avoid min-maxing, obviously. New Stage Evolutions tend to much stronger than their pre-evolution, so be cautious of what stats and abilities you give them. For Replacement Evolutions, their BST is required to be identical to that of their canon counterpart, though the stat distribution can otherwise differ as much as you want.
    • Each submission must keep the same amount of abilities or fewer as with the original species. They must preferably be already-existing abilities or a custom clone ability, i.e. a new ability that works a bit differently from the original in term of interacted Type, Stats, Weather or Terrain. If the original Pokémon your submission is based on has only one ability, that ability can be changed, but for more than one ability, the number of abilities changed must be one less than the total, i.e. one changed ability for a Pokemon with two possible abilities, or up to two changed abilities for one with three total (this includes their Hidden Ability). Additionally, only one custom clone ability is acceptable as long as it isn't broken.
    • New Stage Evolutions can have up to six new moves that their pre-evolution(s) cannot learn. If you decided to give it a new Type and that the Pokémon was single-typed, then ten extra Moves (preferably for STAB and flavor) will be added instead. Custom moves are allowable, but only if they are clones of existing ones (i.e. a Ghost-type Play Rough) and explicitly identified as such, and only if they are of the same type as one of the types of the submission itself; additionally, you can only add up to two custom moves per submission, one for each type if the submission is dual-typed. If your submission is single-typed, it should receive no more than one custom move.
      • The above restriction does not apply to TMs, as you can add or remove whatever you think works with the updated typing. For the sake of forward compatibility with future generations, the TM list you'll need to use as a reference here will be the official Gen 9 one; once the next generation games are officially released, should this mod be still ongoing by then, the TM list will be updated accordingly.
      • Certain TM moves can be learned by nearly all Pokémon (with exceptions as per Bulbapedia's decree) - these do not need to be included in the TMs to remove or add for each of your submissions. Check this list to see what these Universal TM moves are.
    • Original branched evolutions can each receive a New Stage Evolution as long as it respects the conditions required for one. Otherwise, it’s Replacement Evolutions instead. A New Stage Evolution or Replacement Evolution can be branched as well, but no more than two branched evolutions per line.
    • Don't forget to give Height and Weight to your New Stage Evolutions. Weight is especially important does to moves like Low Kick and Grass Knot.
    • For each sub, the typing can be changed as much as desired; some regional variant families are of a completely different typing compared to their original counterparts. However, the evolutionary family must share at the least one typing, unless only the evolved form is receiving a regional variant (e.g. Alolan Marowak).
    • Not every canon Regional Variant with BST below 485 and are single-stage or stage 1 evo needs a New Stage Evolution. Things like Alolan Marowak and especially Galarian Darmanitan will go overkill with a New Stage Evolution. The rest that would be compatible for a new evolution are fine.
    • A regional variant that the new evolution evolves from is required for any and all subs, without exception. If you don't provide a variant of the base Pokémon to serve as a pre-evo for the regional evolution, your submission will be automatically marked as incomplete. You cannot, for instance, submit an alternate evolution to Scyther without a regional variant of Scyther itself to go with it, nor will an alternate evolution of Girafarig be accepted without a variant for it as well. Even though Kleavor and Farigiraf are newly introduced evolutions in Gen 9, they evolve from the base forms of Scyther and Girafarig, respectively, and thus cannot be considered regional evolutions.
  6. Replacement Evolutions follows the same rules as standard Regional Variants, but with a new name instead of “[Regional Pre-Fix] Pokémon”, and be sure that the design is drastic from the original evolution. They must share the same BST as the original evolution of the Pokémon, like how Perrserker (the Replacement Evolution) and Persian (the original) shares the same BST.
  7. Due to taking place in NatDex (where Mega Stones and Z-Moves can be used), there will be no "unusable" moves. However, you cannot give a Mega Evolution, Gigantamax form, or any other gimmick form to any submission unless if the original counterpart had any.
  8. Convergent Pokémon, or ecologically similar Pokémon as Bulbapedia calls them, are acceptable for all slates in place of true regional variants, but I will only allow them in limited capacity to prevent them from overtaking this mod's original intention. To this end, you can replace up to two of your six submissions with convergent families instead (i.e. if you submit two convergent families, you can only submit four variant families, and submitting only one convergent will allow for five variants), though as per the mod's concept, they will need to have an extra unique evolution of their own as well - an entirely new concept, but hopefully we can make it work! I will update the rules accordingly in a bit, but for now, remember to state which region each convergent is from and what canon Pokémon they're based on - obviously, the convergent shouldn't be in the same region its counterpart was introduced in.
  9. Due to being entirely new species, both Regional Evolutions and Convergent Pokémon do not need the pre-fix name of the respective region (though the latter will still need to have their region of origin listed in their respective submissions), but regional variants require both the name and the new region in the submission title. The name of each region's variants are as follows:
    • Kanto - Kantonian
    • Johto - Johtonian
    • Hoenn - Hoennian
    • Sinnoh - Sinnohan
    • Hisui - Hisuian
    • Unova - Unovan
    • Kalos - Kalosian
    • Alola - Alolan
    • Galar - Galarian
    • Paldea - Paldean
    • Orre - Orrean
    • Kitakami - Kitakamian
    • Ultra Space - Ultra
    • Distortion World - Distorted
    • Paradox eras - Ancient/Future
      • NOTE: While Paradox Pokémon themselves are off the table, Ancient or Future variant forms of the Pokémon families the canon Paradoxes are based on are still acceptable, provided that they do NOT directly evolve into the Paradoxes proper, though being reminiscent of them is fine (let's just say a certain time machine might've tweaked them a little when bringing them to the present...). You can make an Ancient Phanphy line whose Donphan variant (or its evolution) is reminiscent of Great Tusk, for instance, but you cannot have Great Tusk itself as one of the stages. There's a lot of inspirational material from both actual prehistory and various media about future animals (both the sci-fi kind and the speculative evolution kind) to make use of here, so feel free to think more creatively than "it's just Amoongus but dinosaur-like", "it's just Hydreigon but robotic", etc.
  10. Flavor rules for all submissions are as follows:
    • All New Stage Evolutions must keep the same theme and type for their respective “pre-evolutions”. That said, you may add a type if the “pre-evolution” is single-typed, or change one of the two types (but not both). Obviously, New Stage Evolutions and Replacement Evolutions should be given to only pre-evolutions that are Regional Variants, and not standard variants.
    • Legendary Pokémon, Mythical Pokémon, Ultra Beasts, and canon Paradox Forms cannot receive regional variants let alone evolutions. If your submission is based on any Pokémon identified as such, it will be automatically and immediately vetoed.
    • You may not make a regional variant or convergent line for a Pokémon family based on the region where it debuted. For an example, it would not make sense for Bisharp to get an Unovan Form, since it already is from Unova. The only exception to this rule is the Gumshoos line due to it not being originally from Alola, and the Crawdaunt line for similar reasons.
    • Justify the changes made. Explain why the Pokémon has changed types and learned the moves it does. Also please explain how it would look in this new form. You must give new Height and Weight for a New Stage Evolution while also making it sound more distinct than it’s “pre-evolution”.
    • An evolutionary line must be entirely based on the same region. In other words, please don’t make a Kalonese Riolu evolve into a Hoennian Lucario. The only exception to this rule is with Kantonian / Johtonese forms evolving into one another due to the regions being right next to one another.
    • It is important to note that you should make the Regional Evolution more like a “logical conclusion” to the Regional Variant form, and not something of an hypothetical Evolution for the original counterpart. This is done in order to keep the regional line unique and interesting.
  11. Formatting your subs according to the official submission format for this pet mod is not a strict requirement, but doing so would be vastly preferable to save me and any coders brought on board in the future a ton of potential headaches. Custom Move and Ability Templates (borrowed and modified from the Generation X pet mod):
Name: Try to use distinct combinations of words never used before for moves in Pokémon games. If you have doubts, double-check on Showdown, Bulbapedia, or Serebii.
Original Move(s): If more than one canon move falls under the group that the custom move is a clone of, please list all of them in alphabetical order.
Type: https://play.pokemonshowdown.com/sprites/types/Type.png
Category: https://play.pokemonshowdown.com/sprites/categories/Category.png (Physical, Special or Status)
Base Power: try to balance this, PP, effect and accuracy; only multiples of 5 are allowed as values.
Accuracy: write -- if it ignores accuracy and evasion checks; must be multiple of 5
Power Points: specify just the max PP if you want; eligible values are 1, 8, 16, 24, 32, 48, 64.
Effect: All custom moves and abilities are required to be clones of existing ones. This means that this section is for listing what is distinct from already existing moves or abilities introduced as of the latest canon generation. Try to keep these differences relatively simple to code, and beware if the move or ability is identical to one of either that exists in canon - should this be the case, you'll have to change it, or risk your submission being vetoed.
Priority: (Optional) The priority bracket of the move. Unless specified, it is assumed to have the standard priority of 0.
Flags (ex: Contact, Sound): [Specify which flags the move has. A full list can be found in the spreadsheet.]
Distribution: Specify if the move is exclusive to a particular evolutionary line; otherwise, list the criteria of Pokémon that are eligible to receive the submitted move.

These are the slates I've come up with for this mod - aside from the free slates, the current generations are divided into collections of three, and will be worked through in numerical order. I considered doing slates for each gen individually but that might take up too many slates which would take up too much time, so I had to be a little more conservative in slate organization.
  1. Starting Decision Polls (Gimmicks? Convergents?)
  2. Free Slate #1
  3. Variants + Regional Evos of Pokémon from Gens 1-3
  4. Variants + Regional Evos of Pokémon from Gens 4-6
  5. Variants + Regional Evos of Pokémon from Gens 7-9
  6. Free Slate #2
  7. Variants + Regional Evos for Regions from Gens 1-3
  8. Variants + Regional Evos for Regions from Gens 4-6
  9. Variants + Regional Evos for Regions from Gens 7-9
  10. Variants + Regional Evos for Miscellaneous Regions (Ultra Space, Distortion World, spinoff game regions, etc.)
  11. Free Slate #3
If this mod proves successful enough to be productive for these slates, we can continue with additional slates with different themes based on relevance or whatever is picked. I'm aiming for roughly twenty slates for now, but we can continue with more beyond that point if the public so wishes.

Official Spreadsheet: Regional Evolutions (Gen 9) - Full Dex and Speed Tiers (A big thanks to Glubbfubb for setting up this new version!)
Official Discord Server: Regional Evolutions 2: Paldean Boogaloo
Council: lavarina, [Others TBA]
Coders: Lysion

Miscellaneous:

  • Coders are welcome! I don't know how to code for Pokémon Showdown myself, so I'd be happy to work with anyone who's willing to put the concepts that are accepted into this mod into action.
  • Council members are also welcome, since I'm busy enough as it is IRL that I might not always be available to help or supervise with the activity for this mod and its slates. It may be that this mod will have to be run by a larger council, but that depends on the eventual complexity of the project as a whole. If anyone who reads this is interested in becoming a council member, please send me a DM with a list of what you believe are your qualifications for such.
  • I'm not sure about whether to include gimmicks such as Mega Evolution, Gigantamaxing, and Z-Moves for any submitted regional evolutions, but may be subject to an initial poll to determine whether they'll be acceptable. Terastrallizing would probably be banned, though, for obvious reasons.
  • Convergent/lookalike and Paradox Pokémon will likely not be included in this mod, since I'm not sure if those count towards regional variants or not, and we do not have examples of convergent Pokémon evolving into their own thing that doesn't look like the Pokémon they resemble. That is a question to be decided by the 0th slate, though.
  • A fakedex sheet on Google Sheets is provided above, so people can check which submissions have already been accepted - as with the Gen 8 version, they will be separated by region, with each variant being listed in the national dex order of the Pokémon family it's based on.
  • Last but not least, good luck, and have fun!

"Slate" #0: What Else Are We Including?
So, let's start things off with a simple discussion rather than any actual submissions yet. There are three things I want to square away for this pet mod, two of which were introduced in Gen 9. These are:
  1. Generational Gimmicks - Mega Evolution, Gigantamaxing, Terastrallizing, you name it, it's up for discussion here. In the DLC for Sword/Shield, the Slowpoke line got regional variants even though Kantonian Slowbro has a Mega Evolution. I have yet to see any regional variants or evolutions get Gigantamax forms, either, and I think Terastrallizing will have to be banned for reasons that should be obvious. If anyone has anything to say about these gimmicks, now would be the time to speak up. The questions are: a) Should a Replacement Evolution receive a gimmick form if the original family or species did so? And b) Should New Stage Evolutions receive a gimmick form? I personally feel that the latter would be too dangerous for the meta, but I'll leave that for you guys to think about.
  2. Convergent Pokémon - Scarlet and Violet introduced a new type of Pokémon: Convergent or Lookalike Pokémon, which resemble a previously existing species or family but are in fact drastically different in their base concept. The Wiglett line are Water-type garden eels whereas the Diglett line are Ground-type whack-a-moles, for instance. The big question here is whether or not it's okay to submit a convergent Pokémon in place of a regional variant and have that evolve into something else entirely. I will most likely not allow convergent families since that introduces too many unknowns, but I'll leave the rest of you to decide.
  3. Paradox Pokémon - The Paradox Pokémon are also new to Scarlet and Violet, but are in an entirely different league. These are very powerful standalones that vaguely resemble existing Pokémon but with a "prehistoric" or "futuristic" feel depending on the game version, with one of their types changed and with a single signature ability (Protosynthesis for the Ancient Paradox forms, and Quark Drive for the Future Paradox forms). The question here is: Would having anything to do with these Pokémon be a good idea for this mod? Given their stats I don't think it would be, but I did consider the possibility of straight-up regional variants and evolutions from the time periods these Paradox Forms are from, not unlike the Hisuian forms of Legends: Arceus. Again, though, that's something that I feel is worth discussing, and if you don't think the Paradox phenomenon should be brought up at all, I will gladly remove it from the rules of the introductory post.
While discussing the above points, feel free also to point out anything else worth bringing up for the sake of balance and making this mod more effective. Otherwise, I will close this discussion on 11:59 PM EST on Thursday, August 15. Take it away, everyone!

Generational Gimmicks: Most gimmicks should probably go. I can see possibly a case for some Megas, but it would be tightly regulated (i.e. only regional/replacement evolutions under a set BST have access to them.)

Convergent Pokemon: Convergent Pokemon lines should be able to be submitted in place of regional variants/evolutions. Existing Convergent Pokemon also should not be able to have regional variants or regional evolutions.

Paradox: Paradox should probably not be in this mod. I do like the idea of having Ancient/Future Pokemon as a variant without all the trappings (BST/abilities) that creating a Paradox fakemon entail.

  1. Generational Gimmicks: I believe it’s best to leave most regional gimmicks out of this, at least at first, leaving only Mega Evolution to regional forms of an original already having a Mega Evolution.
  2. Convergent Pokémon: Yes for Convergent Pokémon, given that they are similar yet distinct.
  3. Paradox Pokémon: I do not think Paradox fits this mod well, and there’s already a Pet Mod here that is about Paradox Pokémon anyways. More basic past / future forms akin and not “just dinosaur” or “just robot” would be fine, but I’ll let other think about it.

Generational Gimmicks: Not a fan of really any regional gimmicks, personally. At a push I could be convinced about Megas, but really I'd rather not deal with those here.

Convergent Pokemon: I like convergent mons. They're very similar in concept to regional forms, so I don't think adding them is too terribly much of a stretch.

Paradox: I think given the general power creep paradox Pokemon often embody, adding them to the mod is honestly just begging for the same sort of power creep to apply here. Not a fan of them overall, honestly.

There's been a fair bit of discussion thus far, and it seems an overall consensus has been achieved for all three points I've noted, so good job everybody! Here are the general agreements I've inferred from the above three posts:
  1. Generational gimmicks are out, period. It might be possible to include Mega Evolution with a lot of regulation, but it doesn't seem worth the extra effort or risk to implement it. So until further notice, all generational gimmicks will be BANNED in this mod.
  2. Convergent Pokémon generally seem to be favored given the idea behind this mod. On that note, I'd like to pose another question: Would convergents be allowable for each and every slate as long as they're specified to be convergent or would they be better suited for a slate or a few of their own?
  3. Paradox Pokémon are also off the table, for the same reasons as the gimmicks. Two out of the three posters did, however, suggest the idea of regional families from those same eras that aren't Paradox Pokémon, just with the same aesthetic. Now that I can get behind as long as they follow the same rules as the rest. The question here is, are you?
The previously stated deadline was midnight tonight, but for logistical reasons and to allow more time to answer the above two questions, I think I'll push it back a little. So the new deadline is August 16 at 8:00 AM EST. Consider this your 24-hour warning - if you have anything to say about the above two questions I've posed, best say it today, or early in the morning tomorrow at the very latest!

For number two I'd say that convergents don't need a slate of their own if it's purely mechanic-wise. As people have said before, they work quite similarly to regional variants, so there's not really any need to put convergent-only slates. If there's too many convergent mons then maybe it would be the time to tone it down

The Ancient/Future ones sound super neat! It gives a lot more creativity into creating the regional variant too, so I'm fully on board with that decision!

Convergents are basically regionals but with less restrictions so I’d keep them separate due to their change differences (Regionals having little to no difference stat wise, and Convergents having major differences stat wise, at least in perrserkers case)

I guess this can happen because the paradox Pokemon exist because they were dragged from the past / future. Def no proto / quark as mentioned. Paleomons ref btw

Convergents are basically regionals but with less restrictions so I’d keep them separate due to their change differences (Regionals having little to no difference stat wise, and Convergents having major differences stat wise, at least in perrserkers case)

Perrserker is a Replacement Evolution of the Meowth line, so it can't be considered a Convergent. I'd say the Poltchageist line would be better examples since they do seem somewhat related to the Sinistea line, but still work off a different concept (though not as far removed as, say, Wiglett is from Diglett). For those two lines specifically, it should also be noted that Poltchageist and Sinistea have identical stat distributions, while Sinistcha and Polteageist do not, but each stage of both lines have the same BST - it seems a general rule is that the BSTs are the same between the original 'mons and their ecologically similar counterparts, but I could be wrong and/or missing an exception to the rule.

2. I think convergent Pokemon would be okay not being limited to special slates, though if convergents start overwhelming regional variants, some rules may need to be put in place.

3. No proto/quark ofc. Paleomons shows that it can be done, at least for ancient variants, and Future variants are wild to think about (there's just so much sci-fi stuff you could pull from).

Alright, it seems discussion has simmered down once more, and after some further consideration, I've decided to add the following rules to the introductory post:
  • Convergent Pokémon are acceptable for all slates, but I will only allow them in limited capacity to prevent them from overtaking this mod's original intention. To this end, the total number of submissions you can create will remain at six, but you can replace up to two of them with convergent families instead (i.e. if you submit two convergent families, you can only submit four variant families, and submitting only one convergent will allow for five variants), though as per the mod's concept, they will need to have an extra unique evolution of their own as well - an entirely new concept, but hopefully we can make it work! I will update the rules accordingly in a bit, but for now, remember to state which region each convergent is from and what canon Pokémon they're based on - obviously, the convergent shouldn't be in the same region its counterpart was introduced in.
  • While Paradox Pokémon themselves are off the table, the aesthetic seems popular enough that I will be keeping the Ancient/Future category of regional variants proper. That said, I will allow variants of the Pokémon families the canon Paradoxes are based on, provided that they do NOT directly evolve into the Paradoxes proper, though being reminiscent of them is fine (let's just say the time machine might've changed them just a little when bringing them to the present). You can make an Ancient Phanphy line whose Donphan variant (or its evolution) is reminiscent of Great Tusk, for instance, but you can't have Great Tusk itself as one of the stages.

**********

On those pleasant notes, let's get this Poké-ball officially rolling!

Slate #1: Everything, Everywhere, All at Once

There are no extra rules for this initial slate aside from what has already been listed above. This is to test the waters as far as the format for submissions is concerned, so we can determine what works and what doesn't. One thing I do wish to add, though, is that forward compatibility with future generations would be desirable for this mod, so I've also added that the TM list you'll be using as a reference will be the official Gen 9 one, but once the next generation games are officially released, should this mod be still ongoing by then, the TM list will be updated accordingly.

Formatting your subs according to the official submission format for this pet mod is not a strict requirement, but doing so would be vastly preferable to save me and any coders brought on board in the future a ton of potential headaches. For convenience, the template for all submission elements is provided in the premiere post.

The deadline for submissions for this slate will be Friday, August 23 at 8 AM EST, meaning you have one week from today to get your entries in. I will need help from anyone with more experience with the meta for balance-related vetos as well when the evaluation period begins 48 hours before the official deadline, which is why I am still taking Council applications even as we get ourselves started. Feel free to ping me either on Discord or through the private messages on this forum with your qualifications if you're interested in moderating!

Okay, that should be it for administrative chatter. Submit away, everyone!

You know what they say, save the best for last....or, in this case, first! Let's start this regional merry-go-round!

New Region: Orre
ojhiu4E.png

Pokémon: Orrean Corphish
Category: Ruffian
New Typing: =
New Abilities: Sturdy/Leaf Guard/Weak Armor
New Stats: 43/80/65/50/35/35 (308)
New Moves: (Moves in bold are level-up moves) Leafage, Razor Leaf, Ingrain, Leaf Blade, Wood Hammer, Giga Drain, Solar Beam, Grassy Glide, Grass Knot, Solar Blade
Removed Moves: All Water-type moves except Rain Dance
Flavor/Design: Native to the Oasis Poké Spot, having fled from Gateon Port after finding the conditions there inhospitable, the Corphish there have blended in with the native palm trees to fare against it's predators better. Instead of three barbs on the top, Orrean Corphish has one huge palm tree leaf on the tip of it's head. The claws, which are now palm green, are also a lot less jagged, using them to cut off palm tree leaves to make it's own home.
"Forced to flee after it's former home became too industrialized, these Corphish have blended in with the palm trees to hide from their predators."
"It's long sharp claws are designed for straight cuts. They use them to cut off palm tree leaves to decorate their homes."

3fLti36.png

Pokémon: Orrean Crawdaunt
Category: Rogue
New Typing: ==
New Abilities: Sturdy/Leaf Guard/Weak Armor
New Stats: 73/100/105/80/55/55 (468)
New Moves: Entrainment, Camouflage
Removed Moves
: All Water-type moves except Rain Dance
Flavor/Design: Once it evolves, Orrean Crawdaunt is still as much as a ruffian as it's original form, but it's also a good camoflauger too. Both the star on the top of it's head and it's two claws have been replaced with giant palm trees that it swings like hammers at over 50 miles per hour, striking their opponents where they'd least expect it.
"If a lush oasis is devoid of life, chances are that Crawdaunt has evicted them all out, for it believes that competition will spell the end of it."
"It disguises itself as a palm tree to fool it's prey, striking them where they'd least expect it. However, scientists claim this only works because very few prey exists outside of it's oasis home."

Ppj6Ave.png

Pokémon: Arecadaunt (Arecaceae + Crawdaunt)
Category: Oasis
Evolution Method: Level up Orrean Crawdaunt to level 45
New Typing: ==
New Abilities: Sturdy/Leaf Guard/Weak Armor
New Stats: 95/111/125/90/75/35 (531)
New Moves: Headlong Rush
Role:
Defensive Attacker
Flavor/Design: Upon fully evolving, Arecadaunt is forced into all fours, it's hands and feet becoming giant claws that anchor it to the ground. Like a Torterra, it carries a forest of Palm Trees on it's back, with the one on it's head extending forwards like a beetle's horn. From a distance, it resembles a giant oasis, but when it's prey approaches it, it will stand on it's hind legs and strike their hearts by releasing giant razor sharp palm trees from it's own claws.
Weight: 2417.24 lbs.
"It's giant claws hide a pair of palm trees that can extend as long as an ocean liner. It uses these palm trees to strike prey from even the highest of places."
"It's widely believed that the concept of oasises being mirages was actually unfortunate travellers seeing an Arecadaunt walking away."

Pokémon: Orrean Gossifleur
Category: Deliquent
New Typing: =
New Abilities: Contrary/Regenerator/Intimidate
New Stats: 40/60/40/60/40/10 (250)
New Moves: (Moves in bold are level-up moves) Fairy Wind, Charm, Draining Kiss, Moonlight, Taunt, Foul Play, Nasty Plot, Play Rough, Dazzling Gleam
Removed Moves: All Grass-type moves
Flavor/Design: Forced to live with the rouges and ruffians of Pyrite Town, Orrean Gossifleur was forced to take on the look of a punk girl, it's black flower hair a lot scruffier than the regular Gossifleur, with the actual flower having wilted away. It always seems to have a scowl on it's face, and it's kind of a spoiled brat, crying excessively if nothing goes it's way.
"Having learnt from the ruffians in it's home town, this bratty Pokémon always wants what it wants, crying like a baby if anything goes wrong."
"This Pokémon was originally imported from another region, only to wilt quickly due to rouges taking it in. No-one has ever seen it smile."

Pokémon: Orrean Eldegoss
Category: Spoilt
New Typing: ==
New Abilities: Contrary/Regenerator/Intimidate
New Stats: 60/120/50/90/80/60 (460)
New Moves: Dark Pulse, Shadow Ball, Shadow Claw
Removed Moves: All Grass-type moves
Flavor/Design: Unlike regular Eldegoss, Orrean Eldegosses retrain the hair of Gossifleur, now scrunched up into two long black ponytails. The green grass dress is now shaped like a gothic dress, and it's more of a ruffian than it's previous form. A very clean and spoilt princess Pokémon, Orrean Eldegoss hates getting wet, and it commands it's fellow Fairy-type Pokémon like it was it's fellow subjects. However, it never seems to be bothered at anything.
"This Pokémon captures other Pokémon and forces them to treat it like a royal princess. For some reason, however, it instantly rejects it if it is not a Fairy-type."
"Inspired by the clothing style of the local rouges, this Pokémon hides in alleyways and gets other Pokémon to gather resources for it's dens. It always keeps itself clean at all times.

QYxkd3O.png

Pokémon: Eldegoth (Eldegoss + Goth)
Category: Queenpin
Evolution Method: Level up Orrean Eldegoss to level 36
New Typing: ==
New Abilities: Contrary/Regenerator/Intimidate
New Stats: 85/120/55/130/70/70 (540)
Role: Risky Sweeper
New Moves: Moonblast
Flavor/Design:
Upon evolving, Eldegoth's body becomes longer, and it gains a pair of long frilly arms, resembling a gothic dress more than it's previous form, complete with a bow tie on it's chest. It's flower hair now covers up one of it's eyes, and it carries around a black umbrella that it uses to keep itself clean. Acting as a form of Crime Boss, those who do not obey it's rules will be exiled from the alley it claims as it's den by it's powerful Dark-type attacks.
Weight: 38.2 lbs.
"Commanding other Pokémon to commit crimes against their own will, from a distance, many have mistaken Eldegoth for an actual crime lord."
"It seemingly shows care for it's subjects, but in reality it treats them like tools. It will even use it's own subjects as a shield!"

New Abilities: Ice Body/Tinted Lens
New Stats: 33/21/25/46/40/45 (210)
New Moves: (Moves in bold are level-up moves) Powder Snow, Icy Wind, Aurora Veil, Spite, Snowscape, Ice Beam, Blizzard, Shadow Ball, Bitter Malice, Dark Pulse
Removed Moves: All Bug-type moves
Flavor/Design: This variant of Nymble resides in Snowpoint Temple, the energy of the statues within deeply affecting it's body shape. In place of a third pair of legs, a large icicle extends from the head to the back of the body.
"I suspect that the icicle on Nymble's back is the result of a chemical reaction to the particles hidden within a statue in a distant temple. To my annoyance, everyone insists the particles are to be called "Hisui Particles"."
zAeO1JN.png

Pokémon: Hisuian Lokix
Category: Icicle
New Typing: ==
New Abilities: Ice Body/Tinted Lens
New Stats: 71/52/55/102/72/92 (450)
New Moves: Poltergeist
Removed Moves: All Bug-type moves
Flavor/Design: Hisuian Lokix serves as a guard of Snowpoint Temple, making sure that no intruders dare to disturb the ancient secrets of Regigigas within it. Instead of the legs that it uses for Showdown Mode, Hisuian Lokix has a long cape that it can use as a magic sheet to warp Pokémon to different locations entirely. It's two antenna have also been replaced by a straw hat.
"It appears to be guarding a temple in a distant land. I've heard from one rumor that if Lokix enters a town, it is a sign that they have disturbed the spirit of the temple it lives in."
zD6Te19.png

Pokémon: Lotsura (Lokix + Tsuarara)
Category: Farewell Message
Evolution Method: In Hisui only: With Hisuian Lokix in the front of your party, jump off the top of Snowpoint Temple and black out from fall damage. When you return to the camp, Lokix will be ready to evolve.
New Typing: ==
New Abilities: Ice Body/Tinted Lens
New Stats: 101/52/105/102/102/82 (550)
Role: Snowscape Support
New Moves: Faded Miracle (70 BP Ghost-type Special move with 16 PP, 100% accuracy, and Trick's effect the first time it is used)
Flavor/Design: Lotsura is inspired by the Tsurara-onna, with most of it's body being covered in a veil of icicles which can steal a soul on touch. The long cape has extended further and is a lot more tattered, now extending to it's eyes, covering them in the process. The straw hat it once wore has been tattered as well, with bits of it being fused with it's arms. Said to be a spirit of Regigigas, the residents of the Pearl Settlement once assumed that the statues in Snowpoint Temple that aren't of the Regis are actually victims of Lotsura.
Weight: 183.3 lbs.
"A legend tells that Lotsura's victims become statues in the temple that it guards. However, I'm more interested in what happens if the cape covering it's face is to be removed."

New Stats: 60/80/50/40/40/30 (300)
New Moves: (Moves in bold are level-up moves) Dark Pulse, Trick

: Temper Flare
Flavor/Design: Codenamed "UB-Cartoon", this black and white Snubbull resides in the Ultra Film, a land where everything is in the style of black and white animation. It has two long ears, beady black eyes, and two black buttons where the blue spots on it's frills would be. One spotting of it had it toy with a shop's contents, making it look like a cartoon landscape just like's home.
"An Ultra Beast that lives in a world that seems to resemble old cartoons. Anything it touches loses all colour instantly."
"This Ultra Beast resembles a Snubbull, but scientists cannot decide if the two are the same species."

Pokémon: Ultra Granbull

New Typing: ==
New Abilities: Beast Boost
New Stats: 90/60/60/120/75/45 (450)
New Moves: Teeter Dance, Toxic
Removed Moves
: Temper Flare, Outrage
Flavor/Design: Codenamed "UB-Animation", this much slimmer looking Granbull wears a pair of black overalls and has long droopy ears, but retains the collar, eyes, and mouth. One spotting of it had it drive an entire audience of people insane by forcing them to copy it's goofy moves until they dropped dead.
"A mysterious life form known as an Ultra Beast. Witnesses have seen it drive people insane with strange dances that resemble classic animation."
"Although it's alien to this world and a danger here, it's apparently a common organism in the world where it normally lives."

OoR5Bbp.png

Pokémon: Blancbull (Blanc+ Granbull)
Category: Ink
Evolution Method: Level up Ultra Granbull while it knows the move Toxic.
New Typing: ==
New Abilities: Beast Boost
New Stats: 90/60/73/120/113/101 (557)
New Moves: Sludge Bomb, Sludge Wave, Corrosive Gas, Surf, Acid Armor
Removed Moves
: Temper Flare, Outrage
Role: Sweeper
Flavor/Design: Codenamed "UB-Ink", Blancbull resembles a deranged, twisted cartoon dog made entirely of ink that can replace anything it touches with it. With long, slimy arms and legs, and a bright white bow tie, the only feature it retains from it's previous form are the bulldog jaws, the collar, and the feet. One sighting of it had it convert an entire ocean into poisonous ink: The resulting repairs took nearly three years to complete.
Weight: 12.2 lbs.
"One of the mysterious Ultra Beasts, witnesses claim it can turn anything it touches into poisonous ink."
"An Ultra Beast from another world, it can supposedly emerge from any form of ink imaginable."

Removed Moves
: All Electric-type moves
Flavor/Design: If you look closely at the waterfalls inside the Distortion World, you might see a Distorted Chinchou, which has a face as horrifying as the horrors of the Distortion World itself, possessing a pair of exposed eyes in place of it's angler bulbs, with both the original eyes and it's feet being absent.
"A mysterious lifeform that appears in vertical waterfalls. Some people claim it is a Chinchou driven insane by another world."
"No-one is certain where the two eyes are gazing towards. They never seem to move at all, not even in death."

Category: Gazing
New Typing: ==
New Abilities: Pressure
New Stats: 67/58/58/76/76/125 (460)
New Moves: Gravity
Removed Moves
: All Electric-type moves
Flavor/Design: Distorted Lanturn has two huge eyes in place of it's angler lights, and it's original set of eyes are completely absent. It's fins are a lot more spiky than the regular Lanturn's fins. These two eyes are said to be able to manipulate gravity simply by gazing at the sky.
"It's two bulging eyes can manipulate gravity simply by looking it. Scientists trying to study it are often driven insane, trying to do the same."
"Legend tells of a Lanturn that abandoned it's senses for infinite vision, which could be this Pokémon."

Category: Mythos
Evolution Method: With it holding a Scope Lens, walk 1,000 steps in the Distortion World.

New Stats: 107/78/78/96/96/95 (550)
New Moves: Spacial Rend, Flamethrower, Fire Blast
Removed Moves: All Electric-type moves
Role: Balanced Swiss Army Knife
Flavor/Design: Inspired by Azathoth, Lanthoth resembles a cloud of staring eyes, with two wings, resembling it's former back fin, extending from either side of it. A set of dangling eyestalks extends down from the bottom of this cloud. Able to see anything within the Distortion World, those that see it will lose all sense of space within them. It is rumored that this is how Giratina views Palkia as in it's Origin Form, implying that it itself has never seen Palkia's Origin Form before.
Weight: 1666.66 lbs.
"Those who see it lose all sense of space. It is believed that it it's appearance is how it's realm's ruler sees the ruler of space."

Removed Moves: All Ice-type moves
Flavor/Design: This mysterious Smoochum wears a domino mask on it's head, with the tuft of hair on the top being absent. You'll often find them in hidden locales of the Distortion World, chanting to the outside world. Also, unlike regular Smoochum, this one can come in either gender.
"It appears to be chanting towards time and space itself. No-one has seen it ever take off it's mask."
"Found in groups of 100, people foolish enough to step upon it's domain are driven insane by it's chanting."

Pokémon: Distorted Jynx
Category: Puppet
New Typing: ==
New Abilities: Pressure
New Stats: 35/50/65/115/95/95 (455)
New Moves: Dragon Pulse, Dragon Dance, Outrage, Dragon Rush
Removed Moves: All Ice-type moves
Flavor/Design: This Jynx wears the domino mask of it's previous form, it's hair now connecting together to form a mane around it. Instead of a pair of hands, Distorted Jynx wears a pair of sock puppets that can control minds simply by flapping the mouths in and out. It is said that the left puppet distorts all space around it, while the right one distorts time. If it is not flapping the puppets, it means that both time and space are currently balanced.
"It's said that if Jynx does not play with it's puppet at all, it is a sign that time and space are at a balance."
"No-one is sure why it carries around two sock puppets. Some claim it is trying to make some imaginary friends, having failed to make any here."

49xvGYm.png

Pokémon: Jyarlathor (Jynx + Nyarlathotep)
Category: Puppeteer
Evolution Method: Level it up while there is a Pokémon in your party that is holding an Adamant Orb, and a Pokémon that is holding a Lustrous Orb.

New Abilities: Pressure
New Stats: 40/70/105/135/115/75 (540)
New Moves: Flash Cannon, Hydro Pump, Surf, Imprison
Removed Moves: All Ice-type moves
Role: Defensive Special Sweeper
Flavor/Design: Based off Nyarlathotep, Jyarlathor's domino mask has split in two, revealling it's horrifying real face on the right of it, as it flashes a menacing smile. It's red hair is now a lot more spiker and resembles the mane of a lion. It's dress now extends further down with a hand pattern in the middle, with a shroud coming out from it's arms. At the ends of each arm are sock puppets resembling Dialga and Palkia, which are said to contain the essence of the actual Pokémon within them. By gazing at it's target and flapping these puppets, the target loses all sense of time and space, becoming one with the Distortion World itself. Strangley, it often spends most of the time outside of battle beating up these puppets, which led scientists to believe that this Pokémon represents Giratina's hatred for the two.
Weight: 666.66 lbs.
"The left puppet controls time, the right puppet controls space. It's said that if it ever loses them, time and space will stop."
"By putting on a show with it's puppets, those that see it lose all sense of time and space."

  • Stats: 65 HP / 100 Atk / 100 Def / 40 SpA / 70 SpD / 90 Spe = 465 BST
  • Evolution Method: To Skarocious via level-up while holding any Fossil (the fossil isn't consumed)
Name: Aerodynamic
Original Ability(s): Steelworker
Effect: Gives a 50% BP boost to Flying-type attacking moves
Permanent (Yes or No): No
Ignorable (Yes or No): Yes
Distribution: Exclusive to Orrean Skarmory
Notable Moves:
  • Removed Level-Up Moves: Leer, Sand Attack, Wing Attack, Steel Wing, Spikes, Brave Bird (move this to TMs)
  • Added Level-Up Moves: Screech, Work Up, Bite, Double Kick, Quick Guard, Close Combat
  • Removed TM Moves: Roost
  • Added TM Moves: Brick Break, Low Sweep, Smart Strike
  • Added Egg Moves: Revenge, Brutal Swing
Flavor/Design:
Skarmory are not native to the Orre region, and like many other Pokémon, they were presumably imported there ages ago. They are most comfortable in the desert and open plains areas where they have no natural enemies, and over the years they evolved to become the apex predators of this environment, completely discarding their ability to fly and spending their entire lives on the ground, their long legs being perfect for great strides across the plains as they run down their prey. The wings are reduced to small, useless fan-like structures protruding from the shoulders, somewhat resembling the eagle feathers of a Native American war bonnet, while the tail, which now sticks out horizontally from the back end of the body, lacks a notch, instead being circular with a spike coming out of the free end. On the other side of the body is a long, plated neck which looks similar to normal Skarmory, but thicker and more muscled; the head itself has a smaller crest on the top, and the beak is larger, deeper, and equipped with more powerful jaws, the cruelly hooked upper half sporting a razor-sharp front edge and a shape like the blade of a hatchet. The color scheme is more striking as well, with the dark blue parts now being pewter-gray, and the rest of the body being stark white like certain tin alloys - more notable is that the wings are now not the only parts of the body that have a splash of color, since the "helmet" including the beak and tail have it as well: a bright sky-blue.

Competitive Info:
Skarmory's original stat spread is 65/80/140/40/70/70. Taking 40 points from the Defense, I added 20 to Attack and 20 to Speed. This gives Orrean Skarmory less defense, but better Speed and Attack, allowing it to exploit STAB such as Iron Head, Steel Wing (still learnable via TM), Double Kick, and Brick Break. With HA Aerodynamic, it adds Brave Bird and Drill Peck to the mix as well, allowing it to punish Fighting-types hoping to come in on its Steel typing now that it is no longer neutral to them. Orrean Skarmory trades its Ground immunity for a Ground weakness, and retains its weakness to Fire, but it still has eight resistances including quadruple ones to Rock and Bug, giving it a surprising amount of staying power despite its ho-hum HP and special bulk. Its main failing is that it struggles against Ground- and Fire-types, which it can only defend against with the relatively weak Icy Wind and Sand Tomb, respectively, with its unchanged and pathetic Special Attack being even less helpful here. It's obviously meant as a physical sweeper and team lead, abusing its triple STAB and solid attack power to bully Fairy, Dark, Grass, Ice, and Rock-types among others, but its resistances and lack of any glaring double weaknesses also allow it to serve as a backup attacker, switching in on foes that it knows it can hold its own against and then tearing them to ribbons in retaliation.

"These Skarmory adapted to the open lands of the Orre region by losing their ability to fly. Their metal armor is still lightweight for fast running."
"They subdue their prey with bone-breaking kicks and beak attacks. Once they have bought down a meal, their shrieks of victory echo for miles."

A convergently-evolved imitation of a colossal predator from a time long since past, Skarocious is the apex of Orrean Skarmory's evolution, found only in a few remote, secluded places in southern Orre. Its appearance is, in fact, eerily similar to Tyrantrum, being considerably bulkier in build than Orrean Skarmory and almost a half-size taller (the same size and weight as Tyrantrum, in fact), with a more massive head and thicker, heavily built legs. The proportional size of the wings compared to the body is the same as in Orreian Skarmory, but a set of six larger blades also extends from the back of the head, almost akin to Braviary's war bonnet or the head feathers of a secretary bird. The head itself, attached to a shorter but even thicker armor-plated neck, is absolutely massive, the crest now swept back like a Pteranodon but shorter, and the now cruelly hooked beak conversely flares slightly upward at the top with a much longer, more pronounced hook, the front end of the beak also being equipped with razor-sharp edges; the whole head thus has the shape of a tomahawk head when viewed from the side (and there are still teeth in the beak as well, now similar to the vicious chompers of Aerodactyl). Complementing this, the enormous legs are similar in appearance to those of Tyrantrum, but with the armor plating and toe arrangement of Skarmory's legs (two toes forward, one back); the toes themselves are thicker and sturdier to support its weight, with enormous claws for tearing into prey. The tail, meanwhile, is now enlarged and elongated to balance out the rest of the body, with a bit of a downward slant, but otherwise similar to that of Orrean Skarmory. The color scheme is largely the same, but with red tips to the blue areas (beak, tail, feather blades) as well as red lower legs, albeit with the feet and claws remaining the same in color.

Competitive Info:
Because the rules needed the BST to be between 500 and 530 for a regional evolution, I decided to have the BST be at a nice 525 so the additions to the stats add up to a multiple of 10. This was simply adding 20 points to the Attack and 40 points back to the Defense, meaning that Skarocious enjoys the same tankiness as Johtonian Skarmory, but with greatly increased Attack and better Speed along with Fighting STAB and Flying pseudo-STAB with Aerodynamic. The Speed being unchanged means that Skarocious won't be winning marathons most of the time, but it will have more than enough power and tankiness that EV training can be dedicated to Speed and HP instead, aiding in its survivability against physical combatants.

"These giant predators are similar in form to an ancient Pokémon that stalked Orre millions of years ago. They are very rare in the wild, living only in remote areas."
"With one swing of its axe-shaped beak, a Skarocious can split an armored truck cleanly in two. Many sport dents and cuts in their armor from territorial combat."

Skarmory is my absolute favorite Pokémon, needs more love, and never deserved to have its stats not be indicative of flavor related to speed and offensive weaponry, although it's obviously an excellent tank to this day. Still, I figured a more offense-based Skarmory variant would be a fun little creative exercise. I was originally going to have it be more anthropomorphic with a valkyrie inspiration, but then I had a better idea when I noticed how similar Skarmory looks to one of my favorite modern birds, the cassowary. That idea changed once again to factor in Skarmory's predatory nature, so this version is based on a terror bird. I originally considered giving it haida-style patterns, but... nah. That'd be overdoing it, I think.

Terror bird!Skarmory was already a pretty solid idea, so I felt I didn't need to reinvent the wheel for the regional evolution. The decision to have it be a bigger, badder Orrean Skarmory imitating a giant carnivorous theropod was heavily inspired by this awesome mod for Jurassic World: Evolution, which replaces the Baryonyx model with an oversized Kelenken, and the Native American elements a la Braviary are based on the discredited belief that the terror bird Titanis, the only phorusrhacid to make it to North America, was the inspiration for several bird-related mythical figures in the cultures of the indigenous people, namely the Thunderbird and the Raven spirit. And the idea of a giant dinosaurian predator living in the equivalent of the American Southwest was inspired, of course, by Ray Harryhausen's The Valley of Gwangi, albeit with a terror bird instead of a carnosaur.

In the tropical paradise of Alola, waste disposal is paramount - and while Alolan Grimer and Muk were a success story in this regard, they weren't the only Pokémon which were employed in attempts to keep the garbage left by civilization from getting out of hand. At some point, a small group of Wingull were trained to clear out any edible waste, mostly in the form of food scraps discarded by restaurants, including stuff that had begun to rot. Like Grimer, these Wingull changed into a new type and appearance - but unlike Grimer, they swiftly became invasive vermin on par with Yungoose, escaping out into the wilderness and forming a breeding population which still terrorizes Alola today, flocks of them descending upon anyone carrying anything edible like a scene from a certain famous Pokéwood horror movie.
Alolan Wingull look similar to their counterparts in Hoenn, but have a black "cap" over their heads, with the two feathers sticking out the back now giving the impression of a bandanna; this patch angles slightly downwards along the otherwise light gray head, making the beady eyes below it look angrier. The wings are also black in color, with two black stripes on the (gray) back and belly joining them like the striped shirt of a stereotypical pirate or robber; the tail feathers are also black. The beak and feet are now steel-gray, though the black tip of the beak remains; the beak itself has a few tooth-like serrations near the end of it on both lobes, making it look a bit like a pair of tongs. In the male, the bottom of the head and neck, from the back of the lower beak to the first stripe on the belly, is a purplish red in color, with the wing stripes and the ends of the tailfeathers also being red.

"Living on a diet of scavenged scraps and garbage, the stomach juices of this kind of Wingull are highly toxic. In a fight, it will shoot poison right in the face of its attacker."
"Flocks of these Wingull mob anyone carrying food, pelting victims with volleys of corrosive spit. Docks where these invasive pests gather have to be replaced regularly."

Flavor/Design:
When Alolan Wingull fully embrace the life of crime they've turned to, they evolve not into the comparatively mellow Pelipper, but a MUCH nastier form that acts as the flock leader: Noxkua. Whereas Pelipper is quite compact, Noxkua is shaped more like Fearow (and has the same size and weight as Fearow, too - identical to Pelipper's in other words), with larger wings, a longer neck, and a narrower beak. The wings are like those of Pelipper, but twice as long proportionally, with the back edges being scalloped in a similar manner to those of Swellow; the tail is also forked like Swellow's is rather than Pelipper's short stub. The neck is noticeably thicker than that of Fearow, and covered in shabby black feathers except for the vivid red throat pouch. The rest of the body is black in color, save for the chest and a "mask" around the eyes, which are gray; the eyes themselves resemble those of Pelipper, but with the upper part having an "angry" downward slant. Both lobes of the beak are steel-gray with the upper one having a black tip, but the lower beak extends only halfway down the jaw, the rest being taken up by the skin of the throat; the inside edges of the front half of the beak also have serrated edges resembling teeth for seizing prey, and the top half of the beak also has a petrel-style nasal tube shaped like the barrel of a blunderbuss instead of regular nostrils, which is what it uses to launch its Poison-type attacks. The top of the head also has a crest shaped like a tricorn hat rather than the swept-back crest of Pelipper, with a single red feather sticking out the top like a plume.

Stat Changes:
Slower but sturdier than its cousin from Hoenn, Noxkua's typing boasts five resistances, including three double ones, giving this flying tank a number of useful switch-in scenarios. It's hampered by its somewhat mediocre HP and its poor Speed especially, but its powerful Special Attack allows it to benefit from impressive STAB in the form of Hurricane, Sludge Bomb, and Gastric Blast (though rain team support will obviously be needed in the case of the former). Toxic combined with Corrosion can put a serious dent on things hoping to stall it out, while Roost offers decent healing to help it last a bit longer in a drawn-out fight. Unlike the swift, physically-inclined Crobat, this is a slow special tank with a blunderbuss glued to its face a la Toucannon, blowing up stuff in front of it to clear the way for faster sweepers to move in.

"These flying pirates command great flocks of Wingull, and together they rain noxious acid down upon prey and enemies alike. They like to follow fishing boats, hoping to mug the crew for an easy meal."
"By spraying jets of a foul-smelling acid from its tube-like nose, it can scare enemies away from their hard-won food. It shares common descent with Kilowattrel, but the two species attack each other on sight."

Wingull is a perfectly good seagull, but the stories I've heard of gulls attacking people and small animals as well as the trope of gulls stealing food led me to want a more menacing seabird for this variant. It's based on a combination of a black-headed gull and a gull-billed tern, two seabirds native to Hawaii, with the acid spit being based on the same technique used by fulmars. The original regional evo for the Gen 8 version of this mod was based on a magnificent frigatebird and a pirate captain, but after the reveal of Kilowattrel I had to change the species, and since I wanted to keep the pirate theming I decided to base it on a different group of kleptoparasitic seabirds, the skuas. This change in inspiration led to me changing the name as well.

We don't have any explicitly pirate-themed Pokémon yet as far as I'm aware, and while I'm pretty sure a ton of people have already made a Pelipper variant based on a frigatebird, they usually make it Flying/Dark because of the "evil" attributes, so I went with Flying/Poison for mine to make it more distinct; not only would a Flying/Dark tank be too similar to Mandibuzz, but the only Poison/Flying-type thus far, Crobat, has a completely different playstyle than what I went with here.

Adapted for a colder northern climate than its Kalosian relative, Unovan Tyrunt is more extensively feathered to match, its torso, upper legs, and tail now being covered in downy plumage like Archen except pure white; there's also a sort of "halo" around the back of the head and around the wrist areas of the little arms (slightly bigger than in Kalosian Tyrunt) that are sky-blue in color, giving the impression of a ski parka. The feet, top of the head, and the three-clawed hands are dark gray with a slightly purple tint instead of brown, while the lower jaw is light gray. Instead of two orange hornlets over the eyes, it has a single ice-blue crest between the brows, which is vertically flattened and flares out sideways with two points, looking like a V-shape when seen from above; it retains the spike on its tail, sticking out of the feathering, but also ice-blue. The height and weight are unchanged.

Competitive Info:
Kalosian Tyrunt's stat spread is 58/89/77/45/45/48; I simply took 20 points from Defense to give to Speed because I wanted it to be faster and more attack-oriented, so it can make use of a powerful attacking type combination. Strong Jaw and Ice Fang go well together, although the ability itself can only do so much with the relatively weak damage of Ice Fang and the other elemental biting moves. Its real potential, of course, is when it evolves...

"It is thought that Tyrunt first evolved in Unova before migrating to Kalos. The discovery of an ancestral, fully feathered Tyrunt seems to support this theory."
"These Tyrunt are more stoic and apathetic than the ones found in Kalos. Insulated by their feathery coats, they can sneak up on their prey in complete silence."

Flavor/Design:
The theory that Tyrantrum was once completely covered in a feathery coat is debatable, considering that most large Pokémon in warmer climates actually have less fur or feathers than in cooler areas for better heat loss. The well-preserved fossils first discovered of its ancestor Arctyrant, however, show definitive evidence of feathering throughout most of the body. It's a bit smaller and leaner than Tyrantrum, which makes it faster and more agile, and its feathers are smoother than in Unovan Tyrunt but sticks up here and there like Archeops' does, but still white with sky-blue "parka" fluff around the neck, wrists, and now the ankles and a tuft on the end of the tail as well (the ruff around the base of Tyrantrum's neck is absent). The skin on the face, feet, and hands is now blue-green (the same color as in the outer cloud bits of Snowy Form Castform's sprite in Diamond/Pearl), and the back of the lower jaw and the underbelly (which is naked/scaly) are the same shade of gray as in Tyrantrum. The feathery beard is still there, but thicker and with longer spikes, and a pair of feathers resembling whiskers extends from the front of the snout, one on each side like in a Chinese dragon. The head crest now sticks upward a little and resembles the three-pronged head ornament of Gyarados, except that there are two middle spikes instead of one and they are only half as long (with four points overall), and each outer spike has two additional smaller spikes growing on either side near the end like a cartoon snowflake spoke. The crest along with the three spikes jutting out of the tail near the base of the tuft are the same ice-blue as in Unovan Tyrunt, almost as though they were sculpted from blue ice. The head itself is narrower from side to side, and has a smoother, shallower curve along the front of the snout which makes it resemble the head of an Allosaurus more than a Tyrannosaurus, but otherwise is similar to Tyrantrum including ice-blue tooth-like projections on the upper jaw and deadly fangs on the lower one. The arms are longer and more muscular than those of Tyrantrum, with three large claws on hands like Druddigon's. Finally, instead of the neck ruff of Tyrantrum, there are two fluffy "wings" emerging from the shoulders like what Mega Absol has, albeit smaller.

Competitive Info:
From Tyrantrum's stat spread of 82/121/119/69/59/71, I took 20 points from Attack to give to Speed, and then 30 points from Defense, giving 10 more to Speed and 20 to Special Attack. Competitively, Arctyrant is essentially Dracovish if you switched Water for Ice and gave it Special Defense like tissue paper, making it easy prey to such potent special attacks as Moonblast, Focus Blast, and (ironically) Draco Meteor. Strong Jaw enables Ice Fang and Chomp Down to serve as solid attacking options, but Glacial Surge is also there if you want to seriously ruin someone's day, though it doesn't get a Strong Jaw boost and the recoil can be catastrophic if it accidentally overuses it. It's not the fastest 'mon out there, but still decently fleet-footed, so Speed EVs aren't as much of a priority, allowing one to either patch up its terrible Special Defense to help it against neutral hits, or go for broke and pump up its Attack to terrifying degrees. Chomp Down deals heavy neutral damage all around and can take down fellow Dragon-types almost as well as Glacial Surge, and is useful against opponents that resist the Ice type, although a coverage move such as Fire Fang (arguably its best option against Steel-types) is still advisable. Surprisingly, Arctyrant has a decent Special Attack as well, so giving it Draconize-boosted Hyper Voice and Blizzard along with putting all its EVs into Special Attack might be worth checking out if you want to spring a nasty surprise on tanks expecting to resist a Glacial Surge.

"Its razor-sharp fangs freeze prey on contact, whereupon it viciously crunches it up. Its white feathers blend in with the surrounding snow, so its prey never sees it coming."
"When scaring off intruders into its territory, it lets out a roar that can be heard up to five miles away. It was the apex predator of northern Unova 120 million years ago."

This variant was inspired by Yutyrannus, the largest feathered dinosaur known to science and a member of the tyrannosaurid family, albeit not quite in the same specific branch as T. rex itself. I also worked in a rather literal interpretation of the name of the Antarctic dinosaur Cryolophosaurus ("frozen crested reptile"), along with influences from Chinese dragons, due to tyrannosaurs originating from Asia with some primitive ones having the suffix -long, Chinese for "dragon". As for what a fluffy giant theropod of doom is doing in Unova, well, this was the closest I could think of to Canada - which is the stomping ground of a cryptid called the Partridge Creek Monster, described as a giant "woolly" theropod with a nose horn like a Ceratosaurus. I almost gave Arctyrant a nose horn to homage this, but I figured the antler/snowflake head crest was already detailed enough. Lastly, the weaponized roar is based on the ability that Yutyrannus has for some reason in ARK Survival: Evolved.

An Amaura adapted for a warm, tropical climate, it couldn't find safety in colder climates so it instead adapted with electrical powers. Its head sails glow yellow with pointy tips like parts of a starburst, while the back has three small pointy glowing yellow spikes running down the topside. The tail is longer and ends in a small bony ball with two spikes jutting out from either side. The torso, meanwhile, is covered in layered blue and white snow not unlike that of Arctozolt, almost resembling a thundercloud, while the legs, tail, and feet have the same blue as Manectric's main body to further this effect, with the toe claws and the spikes on the tail club and neck being yellow.

Competitive Info:
Amaura's stat spread is 77/59/50/67/63/46, and Aurorus is intended as a tank with decent Special attack - I decided against that, and opted for a build better suited to offense (BoltBeam abuse, yay!), but with less defenses, because if you know how to bypass the huge bulk and wide-reaching weapons of a sauropod like carnosaurs e.g. Giganotosaurus were able to, the poor things are easy meat - though said bulk and weapons are NOT piddly by any stretch of the imagination. Comet Tail and Thunderclap are your best bet for a physical attacker, and Thunderbolt/Thunder and Blizzard for a special attacker (feel free to substitute the former with Volt Switch if you want an unexpectedly meaty pivot, though those mediocre defenses might be an issue). Coverage includes Dragon, Ground, Fighting, Water, and Dark-type moves, though of these, Water (the breedable Aqua Tail) is your best bet as it covers Ground, Rock, and Fire, with only Fighting as a blind spot.

"These early Amaura lived at lower latitudes than those in Kalos. Their back sails repelled heat, helping them cope with the hot, tropical climate at the time."
"Its long neck helps it reach leafy branches to eat from. It attracts electricity through its spines, and fights by swinging its clubbed tail with a noise like thunder."

Similar to its descendant, Aurorus, Fulgaurus has a long, graceful neck and tail, but the neck is held at a 45-degree angle with four long glowing yellow spikes shaped like lightning bolts protruding from the midline, and the tail tapers less than in Aurorus, is a bit shorter and non-curled, and ends with a moderately sized spiky club shaped like a Japanese kanbo, with more two glowy spikes on each side and a smaller one at the very tip. The sails, again, are on the back instead of the neck, now resembling a pair of half-starbursts in shape, also glowing bright yellow like the crests on Toxtricity's head. The snowy covering on the body is still there, but snow also covers the join between the back of the head and the neck, along with the lower parts of the legs and the feet like Mudsdale's fetlocks but with the look of Arctozolt's snow covering. Fulgaurus is actually bigger and heavier than Aurorus as an added defense against predators like Arctyrant, meaning the legs are slightly thicker to support the extra weight. The main body color is dark blue-gray, with a blue underside like the main body color on Arctozolt's lower half; there are still ice crystals on the sides of the neck and head, but the torso does not have them due to being completely covered in snow, furthering the thundercloud impression.
The shiny colors of both stages of this line have gray snow instead of blue, and electric blue sails and spikes instead of yellow.

Competitive Info:
From Aurorus' starting spread of 123/77/72/99/92/58, I took 10 points from Defense and 20 points from Special Defense, and gave them all to Attack. Everything I've said about Unovan Amaura applies to Fulgaurus as well, but with the added punch of 107 Attack and Thagomizer. The normal ability, on the other hand, is Warm-Up - not because of added overall speed, but due to the heat jump-starting Fulgurus' reflexes and making it able to strike faster. This allows it to switch in safely to Fire-type attacks without taking damage at all, and if Stomping Tantrum or Earthquake are factored in, this makes Fulgaurus an unexpected counter to Fire-type as well as and Ground-type opponents. Again, only Fighting-types present a threat that can't be dealt with on its own. This isn't a sweeper by any stretch, but its reliance on powerful attacks allows it to clear the way for an actual sweeper.

"The row of spines running down its neck emits an electric field for defense against predators. This field also keeps its body warm and cozy, preventing it from being frozen solid by its own icy powers."
"Herds of Fulgaurus roamed Unova some 120 million years ago. When fending off rivals or enemies, the swings of their electrically charged, spiky tails are comparable to lightning strikes."

The Amaura line already has a lot of justification for Electric-type attacks which I wish they could've leaned more into with an ability or something, so since Ice is the primary type instead of secondary for this variant and takes the place of the obligatory Rock typing in all the canon fossils except the Galar ones, I was free to slap on the Electric type and make a visual pun on the name meaning of the famous Brontosaurus, "thunder lizard". The tail club and corresponding ability are based on the Chinese early Jurassic sauropod which had such a club, Shunosaurus.

When I originally subbed this line for the Gen 8 Regional Evolutions pet mod, I put the sails on the back instead of the neck because as much as I like the imaginative flourish of this line's design, it was thought for a time that the real Amargasaurus did not have skin sails, the neck spikes instead being covered in horn for use in defense. This has since been arguably disproven and it is likely that they supported fleshy ridges after all, so back on the neck they go! I still put another sail on the back, though, a nod to the tall vertebral spines on the back of the related Dicraeosaurus ("two-forked reptile").

Paras are normally at the complete mercy of the tochukaso mushrooms on their backs, which gradually takes them over as they evolve into Parasect; in other places, this also makes them competitors with the Morelull line. However, the harsh climate of Galar, especially during the Darkest Day, forced Paras and Morelull to both retreat into the safety of the many caves of the region. It seemed there were too little resources to support them both, and they would both be doomed if not for a remarkable occurrence. It isn't precisely known when the phenomenon of a cave-dwelling Paras with a paler exoskeleton than normal and a Morelull rooted to its back first occurred, but they must've discovered that by sharing resources instead of fighting over them, both could benefit from their respective strengths, the Paras offering mobility and the Morelull using its light to both navigate and lure in Grass-types, allowing them to split the spoils. There don't seem to be any tochukaso growing on this Paras, either - these particular mushrooms are in fact found nowhere in Galar, having apparently been entirely outcompeted and replaced by the Morelull. Because both species evolve at the exact same level, their fusion also allows them to share level experience as well, and as such, the two of them evolve simultaneously.

"Paras and Morelull are normally competitors, but in Galar, they learned to cooperate to survive the Darkest Day. Together, they hunt for Grass-type Pokémon in dark caves and forests."
"The Morelull on this Paras' back is constantly draining energy from the tochukaso it displaced when they joined forces. Once the tochukaso finally dies off, both Pokémon are ready to evolve."

Flavor:
Due to living in the darkness of caves, Parasync has an even paler exoskeleton than its predecessor, and its foreclaws are also noticeably smaller, while the now-evolved Shiinotic is now rooted permanently to its back, its longer mycelium arms being what the pair use to pick up and manipulate things, including seizing prey. Despite being in full control of its body, though, Parasync still has milky-white, sightless eyes like Parasect due to their subterranean lifestyle, so it is dependent on Shiinotic to guide it around. While the bug remains alive and well and lives symbiotically with its Shiinotic partner rather than being taken over, it should be noted that the Shiinotic, despite likewise depending on its "steed" to even move, has a free will of its own. They may regard each other as siblings in arms, as bickering yet inseparable rivals, as a rider and its loyal mount, or even as romantic partners (what with both sharing the Grass egg group), but however they view one another, their mutual cooperation is essential for their survival, and any friction between the two causes them to "lock up" and stop moving altogether until they come to terms again, though luckily, they generally don't stay angry with one another for longer than a day or two. Some have suggested trying the same process of fusion between Kantonian Paras and other kinds of mushroom Pokémon, but alas, this has proven unsuccessful so far - it seems that there's something about Galar's climate and natural history specifically that causes the Paras/Parasect and Morelull/Shiinotic found there to see each other as friends rather than enemies. Still, perhaps it's worth investigating as to whether Paras has managed to strike up similar partnerships with native mushroom Pokémon in other regions...

Potential Competitive Gameplay:
Parasect, while interesting in concept, is sadly hampered by one of the worst combinations of ability and typing, and anything it can do competitively is done better by other Grass-types in the same tier. This sub was my way of trying to redeem it in terms of gameplay while also preventing it from getting implicitly lobotomized, and for what it's worth, Moonblast and Bug Buzz with 105 SpA aren't too bad a special-attacking combination - Moonblast even covers for Bug Buzz's ineffectiveness against Fighting, which alongside their 4X resistance to it enables this dynamic duo to serve as a useful switch-in to Fighting-type attackers. Coverage options include Poison, Psychic, Grass, and Ground, giving it more options against types that its STAB moves are walled by. Unfortunately, Parasync's terrible Speed is not improved at all even with its new Shiinotic friend, often forcing it to run Recover or Giga Drain just to stay relevant, while also preventing it from making use of such effective support moves as Spore, Leech Seed, or even Thunder Wave (Shiinotic sends its regards for that one), even without the extreme negative priority introduced by Mycelium Might. That said, though, that same nonexistent Speed combined with its impressive Special Attack can make it frighteningly effective as a Trick Room sweeper, enabling the pair to either make better use of the aforementioned support moves or set up with Calm Mind before unleashing their synchronized wrath upon their unsuspecting opposition.

"Parasync carries its Shiinotic partner around in exchange for lighting with which they both attract Grass-type prey. While it retains full control over its mind, its companion has a will of its own, so if they disagree on something, they can't do anything."
"During the breeding season, Shiinotic persuades its host to climb to the tops of trees. After laying its eggs in the branches, Parasync lets its partner coat them with its spores, setting up partnerships between their offspring as soon as they're born."

This entry was inspired by this DeviantArt comic, and also by the discovery that some species of cicada have formed a symbiotic relationship with the Cordyceps fungus that once parasitized them. I changed the choice of mushroom 'mon from Amoongus in the original comic to Shiinotic for flavor reasons and to give this line an interesting new typing, and to go with the lore (as well as this being branded as a new species just for this mod), I also gave the "Parasect" itself a few troglodytic characteristics, namely blindness and gradual loss of color, to distinguish it further from the unfortunately zombified Kantonian version.

Flavor/Design:
Simply put, this is a mutant Dratini. Its skin is dull brown like sewage water with a luminescent lime-green belly, ear fins, and snout instead of blue with white accents, its eyes are sad-looking, and its fins are ragged and drooping. Notably, instead of a gem on its bulging forehead, it has a bulging Watchog-esque eye with rings of red and yellow around its tiny black pupil; in an animated sprite, these would constantly ripple outwards in an almost hypnotic fashion. The forehead itself also looks more swollen than normal Dratini, with several creepily pulsating red veins on it.

"Once, a Dratini found its way into a pool of toxic runoff. Forced to drastically alter its body to adapt to the noxious compounds, it's become a twisted mockery of its former self."
"It has a sad history involving negligence towards its habitat by humans. The mysterious energy emanating from its fins is said to cause headaches and various strange diseases."

Flavor/Design:
This Dragonair has developed a Dragonite-like body shape earlier than it otherwise would, the mutation from toxic runoff causing its body to react in bizarre, disturbing ways. Instead of a long noodle of a torso, it now has a distinct bulge in the middle, with two short Dragonite-esque legs with three white claws each, the body held at a 45-degree angle like a vintage theropod with a dragging tail and upright neck. It has a darker brown color to its skin while retaining the glowing green belly and ear fins of its predecessor, as well as its third eye which is now even bigger with more squiggly rings around the pupil; the cranial bulge now extends backward to some extent to compensate, with additional veins on it. Notably it also has a more prominent mouth this time, a jagged line like Druddigon's although smaller and still near the bottom of the snout. Lastly, a row of five small white diamond-shaped plates runs down its back, and the tip of its tail has one more on top of a small club-like end like what Mew has on its tail - there's another jagged seam dividing the tip in half, which for some reason leaks smog and pollution when this Dragonair unleashes its Poison attacks.

"Mutation from the chemicals it was exposed to as a Dratini led to it growing limbs earlier in life than expected. It contaminates the land and water alike wherever it goes."
"Toxic chemicals ooze from its skin, trailing noxious fumes and sludge in its wake. It often cries out in constant loneliness, unaware of the damage its very existence causes."

Flavor/Design:
The culmination of this line's aberrant evolution, this monstrous mutant is a far cry from Dragonite and will hopefully be a smoother and more tolerable transition from its predecessors for those who weren't a fan of how Dragonite is is so drastically different from Kantonian Dragonair. Its body shape is more like Tyranitar than Dragonite, though on the whole it's somewhat skinnier, and like Johtonian Dragonair, it holds its spine at a 45-degree angle, with a medium-length neck almost as thick as the narrower end of the torso; unlike Dragonair, the neck juts forward before curving upwards a la Mandibuzz, and there's a slight upward hunchbacked bulge above the shoulders. The large head resembles a mix of Dragonite and Druddigon, with the former's bulging cranium and rounded snout and the latter's jagged maw and hornlets over its nostrils as well as the back of its jaw. The large braincase extends backwards a little like a Xenomorph, with the same pulsing veins as its pre-evos, and several more run down the sides of its neck and back as well. The inside of its mouth glows green, fading to white towards the throat, and the jaw can also spread extra wide like a snake's to swallow large prey whole or intimidate foes. The third eye is now the largest of its eyes, taking up most of the forehead and now angled forwards, while its actual eyes, while smaller, are also bulging with tiny pupils like those of Unown, giving it a sort of fish-eyed look, though the scleras are pale red as though bloodshot. Instead of antennae, it has a pair of large frills shaped like Helioptile's except more ragged, black in color with glowing lime-green edges and innermost sections; there's also another frill at the top of the throat where it connects to the underside of the jaw, the three arranged in a circle so that when Dratomic unfurls its frill before unleashing its ranged attacks like the inaccurate Jurassic Park Dilophosaurus, their patterning invokes the radiation symbol. Its arms are identical to Charizard's in shape, and its legs identical to Druddigon's, both having three claws per hand/foot and joining the body via armored plates like pauldrons. There are three Gyarados-like triple-pointed plates of this same light gray color on the bulging part of the back, with the uppermost projections ending with holes that emit smoke with a green glow inside like chimeny stacks. A row of four smaller diamond-shaped plates runs down the rest of the back and the top of the tail, and these and the claws are also light gray. In place of its wings, it has two short, thick, tentacle-like appendages growing from its shoulder pads with false heads on the ends bearing jagged maws that also glow green inside, and another false head is on the end of the tail; all three have a pale red eye on the foreheads as well, and all three can also launch deadly beams of toxic energy and plumes of acidic smog. The main body color is now a dark purplish black with several wide, mottle-edged bands like a Gila monster except purplish gray, and the underbelly is similar to Dragonite's except pale blue-green, with several seams around the chest area being more widely-spaced than the rest and open like wounds with that sickly green glow visible within.

Potential Competitive Gameplay:
Dratomic has a higher special attack score than Dragonite and one that actually exceeds its physical attack by a fair margin, at the expense of its speed, making this an offensive tank that has only three weaknesses, and its special attack score allows it to cover its weaknesses to Ground, Ghost, and Dark with a few powerful Ice and Fighting-type attacks respectively (in case you're wondering, yes, it still learns Focus Miss Blast), though it has no answer to Ghost-types on its own. It can also, of course, utterly annihilate Fairy and Grass-types with its own powerful signature move, Fission Beam - like Beak Blast, foes attacking Dratomic as it charges up this move are punished with a burn status, and Dratomic itself can tank the damage from such hits thanks to its sturdy defenses, though Earthquake and a number of nasty Ghost attacks like Shadow Ball don't make contact and can still put a stop to it should it mistime its use of this move. Its two abilities, Ionization and Perish Body, also play into the concept of Dratomic being lethal to the touch, as they both punish anyone that uses contact moves against it. I had to up its defenses a bit in order to play into this at the expense of physical attack, but given that this thing is a beam-spammer anyway, I don't think that matters much - though with that 94 Attack, physical moves like Cross Poison and Outrage as a TM aren't exactly unusable on it, either.

"The constant suffering it endured throughout its life has twisted it into a violent brute with no sense of self-preservation. The presence of anything manmade enrages it into a violent frenzy, heedless of any injuries it sustains along the way."
"It's said that its endless rage is because its mutation has left it in constant pain. Very rarely, there are times when it is found far away from human civilization, appearing quite peaceful - though even then, bothering it is still a very bad idea."

This line is another one submitted for the Gen 8 Regional Evolutions mod. It was actually originally going to be a Dragon/Poison Dreepy variant, but there were several kinds of regional Dreepy in the mod already at the time, and the change from Dragonair to Dragonite being scorned upon by some made it more prudent for me to instead dump a very unfortunate Dratini into a pool of toxic waste and see what would happen. The Johto region is based on Kansai, the region of Japan that's most reliant on nuclear power, and given Godzilla's connection to radiation, I figured it'd be fun to try an atomic mutant theme for this variant, with the aforementioned Dragonair/Dragonite transition being easily adapted into a somewhat on-the-nose homage to Shin Godzilla (though with some influence from Singular Point Godzilla's form changes and a bit of that mutated Groudon from Jirachi: Wish Maker as well) - I even kept the Dragon/Poison type combo at first until I saw that there was another accepted submission that was a Poison/Dragon kaiju, so I changed it to Poison/Psychic instead. It was a hard choice to get rid of the Dragon typing altogether, but ultimately I think it's a fair tradeoff: the stereotypical mutated third eye practically screamed that typing, to say nothing of how psychic superpowers frequently come from mutation in sci-fi, not to mention the trope of Psychic-types often being pretty damn freaky. I... might have gotten a bit carried away with this concept as a result, but for what it's worth I think that'd actually help distinguish it from Godzilla himself in the same way that Tyranitar - the canon Godzilla homage that's also from Johto - also differs enough from the Big G to stand out in its own right. It was a lot of fun coming up with a more mutated, unnatural appearance for the final form in the vein of pulp sci-fi comics and 50's monster movies, and this may well be the regional evo concept I'm most proud of yet.

For those of you wondering how the animation for Fission Beam would look, by the way, the following is presented without comment:

Pokémon: Orrean Feebas

Height: 0.4m
Weight: 4kg
Abilities: Water Veil / Heatproof / Adaptability (H)
Stats: 20/15/40/10/75/40
Evolution Method: Dawn Stone OR level up with 170+ beauty in the morning

Moves:
Level up moveset is unchanged
Removed TM Moves: Chlling Water, Icy Wind, Rain Dance, Waterfall, Surf, Ice Beam, Blizzard, Haze
Added TM Moves: Mud Slap
Removed Egg Moves: Haze, Mist

Flavor/Design: This Feebas is based on the Devils Hole pupfish, an extremely endangered species that lives in a single very hot pool in the middle of Death Valley. Orre is based on the South-western US, specifically Arizona, so Death Valley is in close proximity. It has tapped further in to the line's draconic tendencies to resist the harsh conditions it lives in, which also explains it sacrificing speed for increased defenses (it also ties in to the Devil association). Visually this Feebas is a deep blue (yellow if shiny) with black fins. Its lacks the top fin that normal Feebas has, instead having small dark spikes running down its back.

Competitive: It's Feebas.

"[Deep in the desert of the Orre Region, a single small pool tucked in a cave contains the only known Orrean Feebas population in the world]"
"[This Pokémon is able to survive in water temperatures far higher than any Water-Typed Pokémon would find comfortable]"
Pokémon: Quetzalucid
Name Origin: Quetzalcoatl + Lucid (enlightened -> having exited the allegorical cave) + Lucifer (shared morning star association with Quetzalcoatl + callback to the Devils hole as origin of the inspiration for Feebas)
Typing: Dragon / Flying
Height: 5.5m
Weight: 132kg (enough less than Millotic to drop a grass knot weight class)
Abilities: Dazzling / Flash Fire / Magic Guard (H)
Stats: 95 HP / 100 Atk / 60 Def / 100 SpA / 60 SpD / 125 Spe

Moves: (I am very blatantly breaking the move number restictions because this is the Feebas line we're dealing with)

Level-Up moves: Aerial Ace, Dragon Tail, Sunny Day, Dual Chop, Morning Sun, Air Slash, Safeguard, Hurricane, Heat Wave, Dazzling Gleam, Coil
Level-Up moves that Orrean Feebas gets by TM (this is just flavor): Light Screen, Dragon Pulse, Scale Shot, Double Edge.
Added TM moves: Take Down, Agility, Acrobatics, Disarming Voice, Fire Spin, U-Turn, Fly, Tailwind, Earth Power, Outrage, Flare Blitz, Brave Bird

Flavor/Design:
Based on the feathered serpent, this Pokémon has a long white serpent body similar to Milotic but with a crest of 7 feathers in a rainbow around its head, white feathers running down its spine and an additional 7 colored feather set on its tail. The shiny form is gold instead of white with the dorsal feathers being jet black.

Competitive
Speed control that is resistant to hazards with Magic Guard or immune to priority with Dazzling, great special coverage but no means to set-up while physically it has very powerful no-drawback recoil moves but lacks coverage, unable to break past Rock types without inconsistent dragon moves in Outrage or Scale Shot. Lacks Draco Meteor so its special sets have very poor Stab moves and mostly rely on good coverage. As such, it is extremely versatile but struggles with 4MSS and needing to invest in mixed offenses to get around checks.

"[People travelling the northern deserts sometimes report seeing a pillar of rainbow light on the horizon. This occurs when a newly evolved Quetzalucid emerges from its pool]"
"[This ultra-rare Pokémon has been spotted all around the Orre region. It enjoys its newfound ability to travel long distances]"

Variant of Gogoat with a fish-like tail and a more kelp-y/coral-y mane, based on the mythical Capricornus or sea goat. The horns sort of curl outwards to be reminiscent of jetski handles.

Residing in Glimwood Tangle is the Galarian Buneary line. Not much to say about what inspired Buneary but they're cute and dumb, roaming around in Glimwood Tangle.

Untitled17_20240820195444.png

Competitive Info:
It's a Buneary...

They like styling the fur on the tip of their ears.
They appear friendly and kind, unable to detect danger until the last second.
Original Species: Lopunny
New Region: Galar
Height: 1.5 m
Weight: 25 kg
Typing: Fairy
Abilities: Sweet Veil | Cute Charm | Dazzling
Stats: 65 HP / 86 Atk / 84 Def / 54 SpA / 86 SpD / 105 Spe [ 480 ]

  • Added TM Moves: High Horsepower, Double Edge, Triple Axel, Throat Chop, Breaking Swipe, Upper Hand
Flavor/Design:
A little more Alice in Wonderland vibes. The second entry is inspired by how people would say "Rabbit" three times for good luck. There's also elements of the card symbols kinda?

Untitled18_20240820195256.png

Competitive Info:
Lopunny with an eviolite and Fairy type.

They use their ears to fend themselves, swinging them vigorously at enemies.
In Galar, wearing coats made from Galarian Lopunny's fur that was given by them will grant the wearer good luck.
Name: Chroncony
Name Origin: chronos (time) + cony (rabbit)
Category: Time Chaser Pokemon
Height: 1.7 m
Weight: 24 kg
Typing: Fairy/Electric
Abilities: Galvanize | Cute Charm | Dazzling
Stats: 75 HP / 106 Atk / 84 Def / 54 SpA / 86 SpD / 115 Spe = [ 520 ]

Notable Moves:
  • Added Level-Up Moves: Thunder Wave, Thunderbolt, Nuzzle, Charge, Wild Charge, Time Out (Normal-type Grav Apple, exclusive to Chroncony)
  • Removed Level-Up Moves: Magic Coat, Splash, Entrainment, Flatter, Double Kick, Baton Pass
  • New TMs: Bulk Up
Flavor/Design:
The White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland, except not exactly? The Electric type is from how Chroncony can run faster than time itself, thought that might a bit of a stretch. The blue fur would definitely be glowing and sparking up though, and its ears would start hovering when charging up. The eyes and inner part of its ears have turned yellow. noartyetimlazy.

Competitive Info:
Galvanize mon with access to hard hitting Time Out and priority Quick Attack. It lacks recovery, which means it'll be chipping itself down with the latter move. Its boosting moves consist of Bulk Up and Agility, but you can choose to hold a Choice Band or Choice Scarf. Tera Blast already being Electric-type with a boost is also pretty great.

They always seem to be in a rush, as if they're running out of time.
Despite their overly punctual manner, they'll happily enjoy teatime every once in a while.

Original Species: Ducklett
New Region: Kalos
Height: 0.5 m
Weight: 5.5 kg
Typing: Dark/Flying
Abilities: Keen Eye | Big Pecks | Anger Point
Stats: 62 HP / 44 Atk / 50 Def / 44 SpA / 50 SpD / 55 Spe [ 305 ]

Notable Moves:
  • Removed Level-Up Moves: Water Pulse, Bubble Beam, Aqua Ring, Aqua Jet (breeding move), Brine (breeding move)
  • Added Level-Up Moves: Pluck, Knock Off, Dark Pulse, Attract
  • Removed TM Moves: Water Pulse, Chilling Water, Liquidation, Whirlpool
  • Added TM Moves: Fake Tears, Thief, Snarl, Facade, Foul Play, Lash Out, Spite
Flavor/Design:
Swan Lake time but it's Odile rather than Odette. The Ducklett in Kalos got shunned like in The Ugly Duckling story, hence the Dark-type. I chose Kalos because it's the region for beauty.

Competitive Info:
It's a Ducklett...

Filled with jealousy, they try to sabotage other bird Pokemon from learning how to fly.
They tend to display proudness, but have a deep-rooted inferiority complex.
Name: Swannile
Name Origin: err.. swan + odile..??
Category: Dark Bird Pokemon
Height: 1.7 m
Weight: 24 kg
Typing: Dark/Flying
Abilities: Keen Eye | Big Pecks | Infiltrator
Stats: 75 HP / 47 Atk / 63 Def / 107 SpA / 63 SpD / 118 Spe = [ 473 ]

Notable Moves:
  • Added Level-Up Moves: Quiver Dance
  • Removed Level-Up Moves: Defog, Water Gun, Rain Dance
  • New TMs: Encore, Trick
Flavor/Design:
Odile time. Infiltrator is a reference to how Odile infiltrated Siegfried's birthday party as Odette. Im too lazy to draw but imagine a much sharper and refined swan with black feathers.

Competitive Info:
Quiver Dancer with Roost as recovery. It's lackluster defenses make it vulnerable even to special attacks unless boosted with QD.

They crave for the spotlight all the time, lashing out if other Pokemon they are not friendly with get attention instead.
Due to their easily jealous and prideful nature, trainers must put extra effort in helping Swannile befriend other Pokemon in their team.

Alright, we've got less than two days left before Friday morning where I'm at - tentatively, that means you've got until tomorrow at 8 AM EST to get any new entries in and until the Friday deadline to finalize what you have. Unfortunately for me, there is literally only one council member for this pet mod and an utter lack of coders for it at the moment, and I'm far less familiar with meta-related stuff than most of the forum members since the last time I used Pokémon Showdown was in 2016, so applications for more of both roles are open until further notice. Please reach out to me as soon as possible if you're interested in helping with admin work in any way!

For now, though, consider this your 48-hour warning. Submit now (or at least by tomorrow morning) or forever hold your peace!

helloo, since we are now in less than 36 hours, i'll post some adjustments and vetos.

- Eldegoth is abnormally overtuned. Not only does it have three great abilities, it has access to recovery in Moonlight/Draining Kiss, U-Turn, Nasty Plot and Swords Dance paired with its monstrous attack stats. Yes it's frail physical-wise but that doesn't equate to This many benefits. Heck even Eldegoss with eviolite sounds absolutely insane, but we'll cross that NFE bridge when we get there. For now, I suggest to remove Supreme Overlord with a less useful ability so that it can just stick with either Intimidate or Regenerator. Next would be to remove U-Turn, since honestly it should just stick to Moonlight/Draining Kiss without abusing slow U-Turn with Regenerator. For statlines, here's two things i can offer:
  • Remove 30 points from Attack and distribute equally between HP and Def.
  • Remove Swords Dance.
- Lotsura line having Snow Cloak is uh. yeah im pretty sure evasion abilities are naturally banned anyway id rather not have them here. Replace it with something else like Ice Body. Everything else is fine but i personally dont like Faded Miracle having Trick's effect. I'd rather it just be Ghost-type Knock Off or let the Trick only happen once per switch-in.
- Blancbull should have Acid Spray removed since Beast Boost on a Dark/Poison special attacker is sorta scary. Other than that it's fine.
- Lanthoth has missing 20 BST. I recommend putting that in HP.
I love love love how creative these mons are! Eldegoth is definitely my favourite flavor-wise, but everything else is also super neat!

- Not super comfortable in Dratomic having Roost paired with Ionization. It has good bulk after all, so i think removing Roost should balance things out.
Ofc these ones are super cool as well! I would not have thought of a Poison Dratini line or a mutual relationship between Paras and Morelull. Super interesting!

- Quetzalucid is missing its typing. That's it tbh it's fine competitive-wise.
I worship the god of feebas.

- Machara could get Stealth Rocks for more progress than just pivot mon. Flavor would make sense if it's leaning more to coral mane too.
Thinking about design really gets me excited. I can imagine how people in Paldea would ride on Machara and have fun!

Golisopod-Kitakami - golisopod having to cover their bodies with mud to protect themselves and adapt is pretty neat. I can imagine how cool its design would be!
Stufful-Ancient line and Rotom-Galar - need to make the meme where Inciscyon is doing the red panda angry stand. I love Rotomoire too, very spoopy.

- Not super comfortable in Dratomic having Roost paired with Ionization. It has good bulk after all, so i think removing Roost should balance things out.

Dratomic doesn't learn Roost, and can't learn Roost. The only way Dragonite learns that is as a relearnable starting move, and Dratomic's added relearnables are intentionally different from Dragonite's.

And on the topic of stuff risking a veto...
Golisopod-Kitakami
Orangesodapop, a regional evolution is mandatory for all submissions in the form of either an entirely new stage or an alternate one in place of the existing final form. Because Golisopod already has a BST of 530, please give your "Kitakamian Golisopod" a new name and revise the flavor to further distinguish it from Alolan Golisopod, and also provide a Kitakamian Wimpod for the Replacement Evolution to evolve from. If this isn't done before tomorrow morning, I'll have no choice but to veto it.

You cannot self-vote more than two submissions, and if you do self-vote, vote for at least three more submissions that aren't yours. In addition, please tag your self-votes or your entire vote collection will be rejected."
Tentatively, this voting phase will last for 48 hours, meaning the winners - by which I mean the entries that have received the three highest vote counts per entry - will be decided on Sunday, August 25 shortly after 8 PM EST. Depending on forum activity, though, this period may be shortened or lengthened as needed.

Best of luck to everyone!
