Role Playing Approval Center (Update 5-12-13)

I'm interested in your idea Korski, but I'm concerned with the idea of things like Flare Blitz Leafeon on the loose and the like. I'm not very sold on the idea of adding moves to Pokemon's movepools like this, but I guess it's a personal peeve.

That's a good point, D_W. I'm trying to think of a way to make Pokemon into prizes like in the games while making it seem desirable to work that hard to get them (as opposed to just spending 2-7 TC). Maybe I could offer fully-evolved 'mons with just the LU-->25, 3 egg, and 3 TM moves, pre-chosen, only. Then again, if these Poke prizes were customized in any way, I could see them requiring a "(GC)" next to their name or "(GC)" next to any modded stuff when they're sent out into battle so the opponent can be forewarned.

Pokemon Super Contests

This is the idea that I prefer over my Royal Unova idea
unlike the Royal Unova, I would be willing to coordinate this

Pokemon Super Contests

250px-Zoey_in_Grand_Festival.png

Overview As many of us know, in the anime, Dawn and many others took part in a large part of the plot line where they participated in the Pokemon Super Contests. I propose that we have such a thing at CAP ASB. The basic idea would be that 4 to 6trainers would pay about 2 or 3 TC to be entered into the contest and enter 2 pokemon. They would be judged by a panel of 3 judges whom would be registered as judges in the thread. Participants would participate in 2 rounds. The first is the appeal round where each trainer individual coordinates their pokemon to make a beautiful spectacle. They would then gain points from the judges based on creativity, how logical the combinations of attacks are and how beautiful the judges think it would be. The amount of points would be up to the judge. There would be no elimination in the contest unlike in the anime because we don't want trainers losing so early in the game. The next round would be a 1vs1vs1vs1 between all the trainers. The battle would be very simple and would last only 4 or 5 rounds. Rather than having HP, Pokemon would have 100 appeal points (AP) which would be slowly be taken away when they are either hit by an attack, the pokemon they attack turns their move again them or turns the move into something beautiful or if the other pokemon creates a beautiful show. There is no actual point system to follow and the amount of AP lost would be entirely up to the judges. At the end of both rounds, the pokemon with the most AP from both rounds would win. The winning trainer would win a prize, and all the TC gathered from the pool of trainers who entered.

Prizes are still being determined but TC won would be [number of participating trainers x 2 or 3 (the TC one trainer would pay to enter)

Special Rules

-All trainers must chose 2 pokemon to use in the contest

Appeal Round

- Each trainer would have 6 actions to create a beautiful spectacle
- Both pokemon must be used in the appeal round
- There will be a total of 3 judges
- Of the three judges, one will be the head judge, in charge of relaying information and results of each act to the participants
- The judges will give points for logical reasoning, creativity and beauty, giving each category a mark between 0 and 10 and the average of these will be the AP given to the act (0 being the worst and 10 being the best)
- At the end of the Appeal round, all the marks of each individual judge will be added together to give each trainer their score
- Judges will post their scores at the end of each performance along with the average score, the head judge will be responsible for adding up the scores and giving the results
- A maximum of 30 points may be given to one single act in the appeal round
- Should the average of a single judge’s score be a decimal, it will be rounded up
- All decisions made by the judges are final

Battle Round

- Only one pokemon will be used for this round
- The battle format will be the same as regular CAP ASB battles with the exception that pokemon will have no energy, boosts or HP, instead they will have Appeal Points (AP)
- Trainers will only post one action per round
- All battles will be in a 1vs1vs1vs1 format between all trainers
- There will be three judges
- A pokemon loses AP when they are hit with an attack, have their attack countered or another pokemon creates a beautiful attack that doesn’t get countered
- Whether or not a move gets countered is entirely up to the judges based upon logic
- At the end of each round, each judge will post how many AP each pokemon loses according to them, the totals will be added up and subtracted from that pokemon’s AP
- The amount of AP lost according to each judge must be in-between 0 and 5 (0 being the best and 5 being the worst
- The head judge will be in charge of posting results at the end of each round
- All decisions made by the judges are final

At the end of both rounds, the AP from each round will be added together, the trainer with the most AP will be crowned the winner and they will receive all of the TC from the pot, a prize and a ribbon to brag about.

Because of the nature of The Super Contests, combination attacks are incredibly important. It is important that anyone who wishes to become a judge remembers that.

That’s pretty much it, people would need to sign up to be judges and I’m not sure how many participants it would get but I hope it works!

Uh. Steam. Arc pretty much suggested this exact thing earlier.

...sorry to ruin the work you put into typing all of that up. D:

that's my fault, I didn't bother looking to see if anyone had suggested that yet

anyways, I don't mind, I just think that overall it's a good idea and it should be implemented, it doesn't matter who runs it or who came up with the original concept and whatnot

Maybe the pair of you could work on it together.

I'd be fine with that if Arc is up to it as well, but I fully respect Arc's wishes if he wants to do it on his own (he did come up with it first and I like some of his rules better, such as the elimination part of it)

Concept: Undella Town Beach Getaway Adventure!

Category: Story-based

Bio: An RP in which Trainers are mainly involved (with little to no usage of Pokemon).

Description: Have you ever wanted to see an RP that DIDN'T involve either Buying/Battling/etc.? Well this is the RP for you! In this RP, a set of 4-8 trainers (each with their own character traits and personalities, i.e. you write them up yourself before the RP) will set out on a vacation to the Undella Bay Beach Resort! There they (you may be one of those labeled as "they"!!) will meet all sort of interesting characters, from the Elite 4 Champion from the Sinnoh region (i.e. Cynthia), to a rich guy in a million dollar villa. Trainers here will be able to purchase all sorts of souvenirs (I plan on implementing a currency that can be transferrable from any of the Contest Halls that will be approved). These souvenirs can be posted up onto their Trainer Profile to decorate it and make it looks spiffy (CALLING ALL SPRITERS/ARTISTS!!!). If trainers decide to, they may go on a scuba diving tour with one of our tour guides to visit the underwater ruins in the bay. There they will be able to find all sorts of ancient goodies, which are sellable to various maniacs across town.

Trainer Battles are entirely voluntary in this resort (which means if you are RPing, you can challenge one another if you feel like it), and since this is a unique RPing location, certain effects can occur that are unique to this specific location.

I plan on using this RP to start up the flavor to a whole series of RPs (which hopefully will spark the flavor aspect of RPing that our beloved CAP ASB badly needs). So essentially the story that trainers will see here is only the first chapter in what will possibly be an extensive RP.

Trainer Payment/Rewards: As listed, the rewards are very limited, since the use of Pokemon will be decreased severely in this RP. The only rewards for this RP that I can see happening are the "goodies" and the compensation that Trainers receive if they DO decide to battle one another or other characters (though for the sake of flavor and RP, I'd prefer to limit the amount of battles that take place). As for the payment, all trainers need to do is sign up and be active weekly (I'm not active enough to take this to the daily level). I'd prefer if we sort of used a Priority system, kind of like in Mafias. What we'd do here is look at what raids, stores, etc. the player is taking part in and tell them if they are a likely candidate or not.

RP Staff needs and compensation: I haven't figured this out yet, but whoever helps me to host this RP, will obviously receive the pure enjoyment of being able to take part in such an opportunity.

In Conclusion:
Anyways, I look forward to everyone's thoughts on this. I want to try to implement something innovative that hasn't been said in this thread before, so we'll see what people think.

Acklow, that sounds really interesting. I would definitely be down to help staff/host with you! Please update as you get more feedback and if you get approved (I do a lot of writing/journalism so its right up my alley)

If he did, I certainly do not recall seeing it. If anything, I can change the location and try to mix up the flavor.

Edit: After scouting the thread: I saw what you meant: the spriting stuff. I was hoping we could implement this sooner, which is why I added that in, so technically no alch didn't post the same exact idea. Besides, this would actually utilize "Role-Playing" as a means of getting the accessories.

I'll gladly sprite for this project if you'd like, if it gets approved!

Acklow, you have my support in staffing this - I can't sprite, but I can write, and I do have quite a bit of RPing experience from Serebii and various other sites.

Acklow, I gotta say I LOVE you idea, and I throw my full support behind it, but I have just one concern... you're trying to downplay Pokemon in this RP, right? But this IS ASB Pokemon. Are you trying to downplay the Pokemon entirely, or just the Pokemon? Because non-battling interactions between Trainer-Pokemon and Pokemon-Pokemon could be very interesting. If you feel you have to, you can give trainers temporary translators so the Pokemon could speak english. This will give the RP a very anime-esque feel, where Pokemon interactions are emphasized.

Well, I would like to tone down the need for Pokemon in the RP...at least to a point where they follow their trainer around (kind of like Ash and Pikachu). They can be a part of the story as well, but I don't want to emphasize the "Well we're going to be battling a lot in this RP" or something similar that a lot of other current RPs are doing (hey, I know this is true, just check out my RP thread and you'll see that the way things are running are bland flavor-wise, lol). As for translators, lol. I don't think I'd implement it in this run-through, but it could be a viable idea for later RP chapters.

Acklow, I think that this is an awesome idea for CAP ASB.

I would even be willing to help sprite and whatnot for it.

On the topic of using pokemon in the RP, I think it would be good to have your pokemon there with you and accompany you but not really battle, just as Acklow was saying earlier. Kind of like in the anime when they go to festivals and just explore the area but no battling actually takes place, the pokemon are just there as friends.

What is the progress on gyms and gym leaders? I am wondering because this is the "RP" that I am most looking forward to. I know that some people already seem to have a decent arsenal to be a gym leader (I am hoping that I can become Steel Gym Leader, I already know what the arena will be and everything).

also following up on C$FP, when gyms come into effect will there be slots for gym trainers? i highly doubt i myself could be a gym leader, but i would very much enjoy being part of a gym as a gym trainer. besides, it wouldn't seem like a gym without the extra trainers. you walk into the gym and right there is the leader, ready to battle you? i don't know if for the gyms the people in charge already decided if there was going to be trainers, i just wanted to ask a question

Good point shadowbone. I made it have more TC since you don't get anything for your Pokemon, but I'd considered bringing it to the normal two TC.

When the Gyms are established, I'm so in for the Poison Leader(s).

So I have an idea for an RP:

-Temperantia's-
Nightmare Gallery

-It's a raid-esque RP, (series of battles culminating in a boss) for two players. That features much more RP'ing in the form of a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure style of storytelling and dialogues.

-Also, features puzzle elements,
>Logic puzzles, needing to use Pokemon strategically, etc. (Many of these will need to be sent through PM, along with RP choices.)

-And resource/time management
>Players are given a certain amount of Potions or "Rests".

-One distinct path for each player to follow (featuring different enemies and puzzles), they will convene at the end boss' lair.
>Each player will not be able to progress until his partner has reached the end too.

-The final bosses aren't exactly Pokemon (I'll elaborate later), they're specifically created for the raid (this works in the surreal, nightmare world.)

-I would need a lot of artists' help.
>Each stage has it's own "Portrait" that would be graciously drawn by one of our fellow Smogonites.
>That and the bosses need Spriting/drawings.

Mind y'all this is a rough concept, but still an idea I've had for awhile.

Concept: Venser's Community Loans

Category: TC Loans (could potentially be expanded to RCs/"buisness counters")

So basically, I've seen a lot of people trading and loaning TCs and RCs around, but I'm pretty sure this hasn't been approved. This service would let people borrow counters any time they want, for an interest rate of something like 1-2 [tokens] per week. This would most go to the first in command, with worker counters going out to other approvers/workers/w/e who are dealing with people's requests.

In addition, this could have, say, a currency exchange service, where X TCs could be exchanged for X-(1 or 2) anything counters.
