Week 3 recap!

We sure saw a... team by Feliburn. I can see the vision, he got the Feli:tm: mons in Registeel and Wo-Chien and overall it's a very cool team but it didn't get the matchup it wanted and failed to break through the defensive core of abriel's team. Now abriel's team is rather standard, and what I would call "Ol' Reliable", good mons good team though I hope to see something more ambitious next week from the RU open winner. Regardless, Abriel walks away with her first win this season.

2-0 vs 0-2 matchup with some very interesting teams. Lime loads up a cool bulky offense Wo-Chien and Armarouge while BIHI loads up a balance with some set you don't commonly see, Thunder wave Body press Psychic noise Slowbro (Scaldless? Slack offless? Really makes you think.), Leech seed Spiky shield Chesnaught which did a good job at keeping Wo-Chien at bay, and Choice Band Cyclizar which never got a moment to truly shine besides KOing a Thundurus with Rapid Spin from 41%. With an amatuer Knock Off on Turn 2, Empoleon activated Armarouge's Weakness Policy and suddenly things looked really dire for BIHI, but... Lime opted for one more Calm Mind and got roared out for his greed, people still question the play to this day. (+3 252 SpA Armarouge Armor Cannon vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Empoleon: 339-400 (91.1 - 107.5%) -- 50% chance to OHKO). The game continued for a bit after that, Chesnaught got up hazards that Cyclizar couldn't spin because of its low health and the constant switching just chipped down Lime's team without really being able to break the strong defensive core BIHI had, earning BIHI his first, long-awaited victory this season.

Elodin takes inspiration from last week Fogbound's team and brings a Feralgatr HO, this team however was originally seen in RUPL from the crunchwraps but with Lycanroc over Cobalion as lead. Stresh brings a fun balance with Toxic orb Switcheroo Klefki which managed to toxic Yanmega before it got too out of hand. Stresh's team looks rather slow, but bulky enough to hopefully take on HO, Yanmega and Feralgatr put a dent into the team after forcing a Tera, and after some attempted doubles from Stresh on the backfoot that were punished by giving Armarouge too many free attacks, stresh forfeits with no way out, and elodin emerges out victorious.

Were you just thinking "Man I wish we'd see more Armarouge this week"? Because you're in luck as both of the upcoming teams are Armarouge offense, and can't forget Thundurus. Kushalos unfortunately does start the game on the backfoot with losing a Thundurus speed tie into losing his own Thundurus to Choice Scarf Krook. A few turns later and he teras his Okidogi in fear of the +2 speed Armarouge and forcing it out. The game continues with Gastrodon putting in some work, but Thundurus is just too annoying to deal with, and with the chef's dark resists either terad out or at 20%, Bisharp sets up once and steals the game, a solid victory for robjr.

Last but not least, Franklin vs Fogbound Lake. Franklin brings a solid team and Fogbound brings... something mysterious and beyond our scope of understanding at this moment, but it looked fun. And it had some interesting techs, Choice Scarf Cloyster which nabbed a kill on Noivern, SD Talonflame, and Wood Hammer Drain Punch Mimikyu. Fogbound's team just lacked cohesiveness, but that just might be his style, but it really struggled vs Franklin's, Mew posed a threat as it set up an NP, but Franklin read the Earth Power and went to Noivern, Fogbound had no real water resist so playing around Empoleon when it was in was difficult, and sure enough Fogbound's mons fell one by one, and Franklin emerged victorious.

And now for usage stats! I wonder where that Thundurus guy will be.

Thundurus continues to dominate thanks to its versatility, great coverage, and amazing speed tier. Notable shout outs include staples like Krookodile, Slowbro, and Cyclizar performing well and staying consistent. "Broken" Okidogi flopped this week, but it still has one more week to show its dominance before it leaves for good. Surprisingly, Hisuian Goodra sees no usage this week as players opt to use different steels on their team, this could be because players prefer to have faster teams and a fear of other players prepping for Goodra. All kinds of playstyles seem to be performing well without one standing above the rest, which is a good sign.

Week 4 recap!

vs
1728323478077.png

Starting off with a cool hazard stack team from Elodin featuring a Mew set originally created by stresh and picked up in popularity recently, dual hazards Body Press with Rocky Helmet. While Abriel continued to load a very standard six without removal, so the hazards were UP. No real fairy resists on either team meant that both Gardevoirs had the potential to go ham, elodin popping tera on Krookodile to deal with it. Barring a few unlucky turns with Abriel's Thundurus missing 3 Focus Blasts, Elodin was consistent, earning the win and proving to be fitting quite well in the tier with a stellar 3-1 record.

Thoughts: elodin's team was really awesome here, and it's great to see how he's managing in RU after being ranked #9 in the pool. The tier can certainly reward creative building with how many viable things you can use. While abriel did load an unfortunate match up with no removal, I'm once again hoping to see something more exciting from the platoons.

Feliburn toned down the gas after last week with a better looking team featuring a 3 attack LO Reuniclus and a Sand Force Hippowdon that was able to abuse the opposing Hippo's sand alongside Rock Slide for coverage versus any Flying-types. Fogbound's team, as usual, is a bit on the funky side with two mons you don't see often in Deoxys-D and Infernape and an interesting set in WoW Mimikyu. Nasty Plot Infernape did pose to be a threat after Feli's Noivern got fully paralyzed, but forcing it to pop Tera Grass with Reuniclus made it so Slither Wing can take care of it. Fogbound's team proved to be strong, getting close to locking the game up but a misplay on turn 31 in front of Morning Sun Slither Wing did give Feli the edge he needed to seal the deal and win the game.

Thoughts: Again, creativity rewards. Both loaded really interesting teams. Fogbound has absolutely been wild with the teams so far but it's hard to say if it's been working out for him with a 2-2 record. He did have this game in the bag if he didn't let that Slither Wing heal. Regardless, excited to see what's coming next from both of these players, Fogbound is certainly someone who can impress.

1728344648922.png

Django makes his debut versus TheFranklin, a rather tough start for the Foxes's new starter. We see a mirror with half of the Pokemon available on each team. Franklin's mixed Salamence poses a giant threat to django, and Franklin was able to position well to get an early lead but django's Bisharp does claim a few lives after Franklin's Okidogi goes down. The game progresses until it's a last Slowbro standing from django and the two enter a CM war, one that looked bleak for django for not running Covert Cloak on his Slowbro. But a crit does seal Franklin's fate unfortunately and django starts with a good win.

Thoughts: funny Slowbro

vs
1728400478053.png

It's getting sunny down in RU as Lime loads up an interesting looking sun to say the least, you don't see any of the common abusers, will Scovillain and Slither Wing be enough? Stresh on the other hand loads up, in the words of our great tier leader "Just straight up 6 assholes", and I couldn't agree more. The game starts off to a rocky start from Lime, who doesn't get an opportunity to get up sun and start clicking. An unfortunate crit on Scovillain means that Lime's main progress maker and wallbreaker here was dangerously low, things were already looking bleak. Stresh keeps up momentum with each play and unfortunately Lime never gets the ball rolling with sun. Stresh walks away with the victory.

Thoughts: I'm gonna say it, I think Lime's team here was bad. Maybe he could've played better, and Bisharp and Mimikyu are an unfortunate matchup to run into, but the team could've been alot better. Slither Wing isn't a real abuser of sun, lets be real, and Scovillain alone isn't going to be doing much. Lime started out strong but has now fallen to a 2-2, I hope he finds his footing again next week and bring something he's more consistent with. Stresh is the goat we been knew.

vs
1728401208679.png

Nice 6, rob. BIHI loads up a cool VoltTurn offense, however he rolls the unfortunate matchup of Flip Turn Empoleon into Volcanion. Empoleon completely flops into the Volcanion, inviting it for free every time it comes in. With Empoleon failing to take on Volcanion, that leaves Noivern that gets paralyzed by Thundurus later on and letting Taunt Volcanion swiftly take care of it, Volcanion posed a giant threat. BIHI does exhaust the tera on Empoleon to save it from fainting, a questionable tera as Empoleon is a liability if anything when Volcanion is still around. Empoleon does get sacked to Volcanion later and at that point BIHI just lacks the pieces to win.

Thoughts: rob loads up Krookodile, Thundurus, and Cyclizar for the third week in a row and goes unpunished, how fun. BIHI is obviously struggling with keeping up with the others, but his builds are getting better, we hope to see him catching up to the others in the pool.

And now for usage stats!

Bisharp and Volcanion have a strong showing this week, alongside Krookodile who remained a consistent winner so far this season. It seems like the Talonflame hype died down, seeing no usage this week. ~6 (unsure of Noiverns) teams used this week had no hazard removal, with the others relying on either a potential Noivern or reliable Cyclizar, an interesting development. Hisuian Goodra seems to have picked up again in usage after seeing none last week, but it had a rather weak showing, only support sets were used this week. Okidogi, once again, completely flops this week, but atleast the players don't have to worry about it anymore, may it wreak havoc in UU instead.

Additionally, we're now officially beyond the midpoint of the regular season, so here's a quick midseason recap just to round this week off.
1728403531720.png

Elodin, robjr, and Stresh stand above the rest with a good 3-1 record. Overall, there is no major discrepancy in player records bar the foxes and the platoons. Most players are doing well with neutral records. Elodin does stand out as the most impressive for only costing 3k and picking up the tier so quickly, that was a good buy from the breakers.

Now for overall usage this tournament so far.

This puts it better into perspective just how well alot of Pokemon are performing. Thundurus sports 55% usage, players realizing its a a very important Pokemon in the tier. Of course there are some you aren't surprised to see with high winrates, Krookodile, Slowbro, and Bisharp were always consistent performers. Slither Wing and Krookodile performing well does make me question why people gave up on Weezing Galar so quickly, as it was known to be a rather effective check to these mons that have been performing very well and does have a surprising 100% winrate. Volcanion is another beast with +60% winrate, but Noivern takes us by surprise with a rather high 80% winrate, thanks to its versatility, extensive movepool, and phenomenal speed it's no wonder this Pokemon is good, LBN will be happy. That'll be all, feel free to discuss usage, teams, and records in the thread!

xavgb vs robjr
Django vs BIHI
abriel vs Lime
Fogbound Lake vs elodin
TheFranklin
vs Feliburn

xavgb vs robjr: Unless Rob decides to switch up the Krook Cycle Thundy, I could totally see Stresh using that against him and running away with the game. 65/35
Django vs BIHI: I actually quite liked Django's team last week and he played well too. Though I might just be rooting for BIHI. 60/40
abriel vs Lime: I won't lie I haven't been liking abriel's teams especially last week (considering I am a big ass specs garde supporter). Lime has also been doing well and Lime has GOAT denial to help. This doesn't mean I am counting out abriel though. 40/60
Fogbound Lake vs elodin: elodin has been doing quite well though once again I did not like his last week team (fake ass Fairy resist hoodra). Fogbounds teams have been....interesting for sure tho FB also brought fake ass Fairy resist last week soooo... 30/70
TheFranklin vs Feliburn: RUTL vs FRUTL. This game is gonna be cinema and up in the air I don't wanna predict this ^-^ 50/50

xavgb vs robjr Xavgb would’ve won this week had he played before joining the RU council, but now he’s doomed I fear.
Django vs BIHI Django played well vs Frank last week
abriel vs Lime repeat after me RU: I will not jynx the goat, I will not jynx the goat
Fogbound Lake vs elodin fogs been trying to cook weird shit but he’s smart about it and thinks through the interactions well
TheFranklin vs Feliburn Feli’s gonna be feeling himself too much after last week and the kilowattrel he brings will miss hurricane

xavgb vs robjr I love xavgb's teams, but robjr has been killing it this SCL, so I'm going to have to bold them. 40/60
Django vs BIHI Facing TheFranklin in your debut for RU is tough, but Django managed to pull through. So I'm going to be bolding them. 70/30
abriel vs Lime I will not jinx the goat, I will not jynx the goat. In all seriousness I think Lime will win here. Last weeks match was rough, but I'm sure he can pull it back with a creative team. 40/60
Fogbound Lake vs elodin While Elodin's teams have been somewhat standard, they have been working. Fogbound has been bringing weird stuff, but I think they can still do well in this match. 65/35
TheFranklin vs Feliburn This is a hard one for me, but I think TheFranklin is going to win this. However, if Feliburn brings out some heat, then I think he could surprise us and take the win. But, its so close, so I can't in good faith bold either one of them. 50/50

Week 5 recaps!

vs
1728922961990.png

First up we see the fourth Krookodile/Thundurus/Cyclizar team from robjr this tournament with an Armarouge that reveals itself to be Choice Specs very early on. While Stresh brings a cool offense with recurring Pokemon we've been seeing this tour in Feraligatr. The game starts out with specs Armarouge getting off two strong hits versus Noivern and Gardevoir. Gligar reveals Tera Ghost in front of the Cyclizar to block it from spinning away the entry hazards. Overall, this game feels very weirdly played from rob's side, with him making some questionable plays through out it, but he does get punished for loading the same structure again and stresh walks away with the victory this time, crowning him with the best record in the pool so far at 4-1.

vs
1728923322610.png

BIHI brings an interesting team with Kilowattrel and Klefki, the Kilowattrel landing the Thundurus MU it was brought for presumably. Django is coming off of a strong win last week brought a bulky offense with RU demon Yanmega in the back. Taunt Volcanion on django's side proves to be a menace by preventing Reuniclus from recovering, but BIHI's Volcanion also has no switch ins after django's goes down and giving him the lead. Despite being down 2-5, django's Yanmega is still poised to sweep after the Throat Spray boost, but misplays by using Bug Buzz into the Tera Fairy Reuniclus that missed its Thunder Wave, as two Tera Blasts killed Reuniclus and won the django the game. BIHI claims victory this time however.

vs
1728924465399.png

Our first stall this tournament, brought to you by abriel:tm:. This is a popular stall by user hjkhj but with Slowbro over Milotic. Lime on the other hand brings an offense with THREE whole brokens. Lots of switching happens during the endgame as Lime attempts to activate the Weakness Policy on Armarouge to which he succeeds. The Armarouge continues to claim 2 Pokemon in Chesnaught, Chansey, and leaves Muk at 7%. This is devestating for abriel as she no longer has an answer for Thundurus which takes care of the rest of the team. Lime also reveals Psychic Noise on Flygon, which stops Slowbro from recovering and earning Lime the win for this round.

1728925917367.png
vs
1728925928676.png

Elodin brings the second sun team we see this tournament, and it lands the unfortunate matchup into Tera Dragon Hippowdon, Slither Wing, and Noivern on fogbound's BO. Elodin teras his Typhlosion turn 1 and gets a KO on fogbound's Thundurus but struggles to keep sun up after Hippowdon teras. With sun not up, Venusaur isn't able to outdamage Calm Mind Fezandipti, which sets up on Venusaur and KOs all the remaining Pokemon, none of them able to KO it back. Fogbound wins this round.

1728926923847.png
vs
1728926930793.png

Last but absolutely not least we have a game the whole tier was looking forward to. With a surprisingly high 9 RU Pokemon in this game, we still see some cool Pokemon in Feraligatr (Again!), Pawmot, and Lycanroc. Franklin loses an unfortunate speedtie early on costing him his Thundurus and making Feli's Thundurus much more threatening. Franklin is then forced to trade Scarf Krookodile for the Fezandipiti setting up, making it really awkward or Franklin. It comes down to bulky Salamence barely being able to set up on Thundurus, one para away from losing the game. It manages to break past Thundurus, but an unfortunate paralysis infront of Pawmot seals the deals and Feliburn is the winner of this round.

And now for usage stats!

Thundurus and Krookodile continues to dominate in terms of usage, with players getting more and more creative with Thundurus checks and answers like Kilowattrel, Gligar, and Pawmot. Noivern and Feraligatr continue to boast impressive 100% winrates this tournament. We once again don't see any Hisuian Goodras this round despite it's strong showing the earlier weeks. More offensive structures are seeing more success while HO and weather continue to flop. Besides Torkoal, we see none of the other drops such as Ribombee and Alolan Ninetales this week, Pokemon that are both geared towards HO in a tournament where HO has only been brought once or twice so far.

Week 6 recap woooo!!!

1729513752322.png
vs
1729513759998.png

Starting off with Feliburn going out of his comfort zone with an actual team of 6 RU mons after being forced to. Django brings a what looks to be bulky offense featuring known criminal Suicune and an interesting Jirachi set. Meteor Beam Jirachi flops and django struggles to break past Feliburn's defensive core of Slither Wing, Slowbro, and Jirachi with his team. Suicune doesn't find many opportunities to set up and manages to miss every possible Scald burn. Django's Gengar reveals Toxic Spikes late into the match which would've helped pressure Feliburn's team had they been clicked earlier. Feliburn gets a clean 6-0 and wins this week.

vs
1729524098763.png

"what da hell is frank using" Franklin brings a very cool snow and the first usage this tour for Alolan Ninetales. Elodin brings a triple Regenerator very bulky offense that looks to have a favored match up. Elodin gets up Toxic Spikes turn 1 which look amazing against Franklin's team. Franklin soon exhausts his Tera on turn 4 on Cetitan only to score one kill on Galarian Weezing before fainting. Franklin plays well, making excellent use of his Thundurus to pressure elodin's team. It looks dire for Franklin but he banks on a Slowbro full paralysis that allows him to get Krookodile in safely and he gets it, allowing Scarf Moxie Krookodile to clean up and win him the game.

vs
1729526200723.png

Lime brings a trusty offense with a bunch of interesting mons, namely Gyarados and a Ribombee that laters reveals to be Choice Scarfed, sniping a Galarian Zapdos later into the match. Fog's team is less ambitious than his previous brings but he still leaves his mark with Swagger Entei. Entei actually threatens to sweep halfway through the game but a clutch Tera Steel Ribombee saves the day. The real highlight of the game was the endgame where spectators witnessed a blast from the past as Lime's burnt Jirachi flinched down a Slowbro to death when things were looking bleak for him, earning him the victory. A replay worth watching.

1729540969650.png
vs
1729540975252.png

We witness Entro's debut in RU this week and with him he brings a team used by gewwge in RUWC finals against his teammate's team, Abriel. Rob does deviate from the structure he kept using the past few weeks with a cool bulky offense featuring specs Basculegion-F which entro has zero switch ins for. Rob plays Basculegion aggresively, abusing the fact that his special breaker has no switch ins and constantly doubles to force a KO. It scored 4 total kills before going down and earns rob a big lead. Entro reveals a bulky Roost Facade Salamence that starts setting up, posing a threat to rob's team. Rob plays around it and exhausts the roosts before eventually KOing it with Noivern to win the game.

Last but not least we have xavgb vs BIHI. Stresh loads a throwback to week 1 when Hisuian Goodra wishpass was a very popular team structure that now fell out of style, usually Goodra is specs on those but not here interesingly enough. BIHI loads what seems to be webs HO but is actually regular HO with QD Tera Ground Ribombee. The two trade mons back and forth, with stresh carefully playing around BIHI's threatening team. However, one by one BIHI's team folds to Scarf Galarian Gapdos, outspeeding everything and even one shots Ribombee that teras as a last ditch effort to not lose, unfortunately it's not enough and stresh walks away victorious.

And now for usage stats!

You'd think in the last week where Thundurus is legal, it tops the usage stats one last time, but that's not the case as Krookodile picks up the crown with a strong 70% usage putting him at #1. Interestingly enough, only 2 of those Krooks ran Intimidate while the others ran Moxie. 4 of the Moxie were Scarf while 2 confirmed to be the newly founded Felikrook set (Scarf Moxie Tera Fairy Tera Blast). It seems that players agree that Krookodile is an exceptional and very versatile Pokemon to build with and use in this meta. Thundurus is still in #2 and goes out with style by putting in work in every game it was in. The other stats are nothing special, but it will be interesting to see how the meta develops with Thundurus getting banned. What mons will be better, will we see fun stuff next week? Fogbound Lake vs robjr
TheFranklin
vs Denial
Feliburn vs elodin

Django vs xavgb he’ll win olt though
abriel vs BIHI I would love to see Abriel bounce back with a good team this week, but BIHI seems very motivated to learn the meta and try to stay ahead of his competition even if it doesn’t work out every week. The ideas are solid and I’m always excited to see what he’ll bring.
Fogbound Lake vs robjr Fogbound brought a very good pick last week just didn’t work out for him. Same with rob except he did end up winning. It’s pretty even, as are most matchups at this level of play.
TheFranklin vs Denial Working under a genius like Lime should’ve taught denial a thing or 2 about building so she should be ok, she also has the TM army on her side to fine tune the build. Good read on the meta and has come up with some creative, effective sets. Bolding her because this will be close and I’m rooting for her, but Franklin’s ability to bring absolutely anything is terrifying.
Feliburn vs elodin Feli, who gives a fuck if you bring boring teams. He just needs to bring something solid that gives him options vs the whole meta and I believe in his ability to outplay anyone.

week 7 recap, late but not forgotten

vs
1730274610233.png

First up we have a rather short game with django bringing HO vs stresh's more aesthetically displeasing fat team. Lilligant sets up on turn 3 and reveals Tera Psychic Tera Blast in front of Talonflame but stresh scouts for it and burns Tera on Wo-Chien to deal with it. After Wo-Chien KOs Armarouge the game ends abruptly after Registeel sets up one Iron Defense and sweeps django's remaining team and preserves the 6-0. Expertly played.

1730299793678.png
vs
1730299801229.png

Abriel brings a very interesting offense against BIHI's fatter team but fails to make any meaningful progress against it. There were two moments where thing could've changed in Abriel's favor. The first being Mirror Herb Entei getting the swagger off, but failing to OHKO Galarian Zapdos after Tera Normal, the second being Bisharp getting a Swords Dance off, one crit away from winning since BIHI almost threw by not attacking the Bisharp, but she doesn't get it and BIHI wins. Good job BIHI.

vs
1730306810936.png

We get too see Specs Goodra wishpass again this week, how exciting. Fogbound brings a BO with Specs Volcanion and rolls a pretty good match up with Umbreon getting 2HKO'd after rocks by steam eruption. Rob's Goodra missed a few crucial Dracos that could've made the game go more in his favor, but that didn't matter as Tera Fairy Volcanion claimed a kill each time it was in, earning Fogbound Lake the win.

1730307808055.png
vs
1730307815563.png

Denial graces the RU tier with her presence and brings a cool team featuring Sticky Barb Golurk that really didn't do anything sadly! While Franklin almost deceives us with a fake stall featuring the 3rd Quagsire we see so far. Franklin is on the backfoot for most of the game trying to deal with Golurk, Volcaniona, and Specs Zoroark. Golurk gets a crit on Salamence that opens up the path for Volcanion to go crazy and Franklin's mons just drop one by one until there is none left. They say Denial is a river in Egypt, but last week, Denial was a winner.

1730317066883.png
vs
1730317073511.png

THE FOURTH QUAGSIRE. Feliburn brings a very peculiar spikestack with techs like Healing Wish Chansey to bring back Mimikyu to full health and Acid Spray Goodra. While Elodin brings a VoltTurn offense with Mirror Coat Swampert which I thought was neat. Elodin sacks Zoroark and exhausts Tera on Fezandipiti that fails to beat Quagsire and gets Toxic'd, putting him on the backfoot while the Goodras trade Knock Offs. After Elodin's team is weakened Feliburn's Fezandipti is poised to clean up before getting Dragon Tail'd by Cyclizar but that doesn't matter as Noivern cleans up the last two remaining mons.

And now for usage stats!

This week is really interesting, there is ZERO Krookodile usage for one after 6 weeks for being the top dog. Was Thundurus's presence the main reason Krookodile was used so much? I don't think so but it's still interesting to see. People apparently opted for Quagsire as the Ground-type of choice, usually running it on fatter teams to moderate success judging by the amount of fat teams we saw this week. There are no overtly dominant team styles as of yet. Bisharp also takes the place as the top Dark-type this week while Volcanion and Noivern continue to be Really Fucking Good.

oough im so tired you guys better fucking engage with this thread after this

Lots of cool pairing this week. I hope the teams who are already out keep some motivation to deliver some good gaming. I also hope to see more of the newly arrived mons since they have seen very low representation last week, especially Ninetales-A because I don't think we are giving this mon a proper chance to shine in the tier for now.

Lime vs Feliburn - That might be the most hype pairing because the game will probably be high paced seeing the teams Lime has been using and feli might very well try to match that. Both players have an equivalent W-L ratio so that makes it even tighter. We have not seen Lime play in the Thundurus free meta and it's an interesting question mark given that he has been a very big user of Thundurus throughout SCL so I wonder how it will affect his builds. I'm bolding feli because I believe he is still a more solid player and that Lime seems more easy to prep for than him, just be careful about the sun matchup :clown: 40-60

elodin
vs Django - I don't know them as much as the first two so I'm bolding mostly because elodin has a better W-L record and Django is on a pretty unfortunate streak of losses. Although I will nuance this by saying that he recently lost to the top two players of the pool with honestly alright teams so if he didn't lose motivation yet I think this game might be closer than anticipated. 65-35

robjr vs TheFranklin - This is my personal highlight of the week, I enjoy watching these two play a lot so I hope we're in for a treat here. I think Franklin has a better ingame than rob which is why I'm bolding him. Very obviously I think that his record doesn't reflect how goated he his at the tier so he is definitely favored here. 45-55

BIHI
vs Fogbound Lake - Very close pairing yet again in my opinion. They both have comparable W-L records and also comparable experience in the tier overall I believe? I'm naturally prone to bold BIHI here since I would like him to win and I really think that he has improved a lot throughout the course of the tournament and especially since that week 3 game against Lime which must have given him some needed confidence. Fogbound also brought Swagger Mirror Herb Entei so I cannot in good conscience bold them since now this set is all over the ladder. 51-49

xavgb
vs entrocefalo - I love my bro entro but stresh is the mvp of that tour atm and I don't think I would bold anyone against him. He has a great ingame level, deep knowledge of the tier and all of that topped off with nearly unmatched skills in the builder in my humble opinion so he is largely favored in this matchup. Against such players, most would resort to cheese and HO archetypes but stresh proved last week that he was very well prepared for this so entro might have to be more creative than that, which I know he can definitely be. I hope he doesn't try to stall for this game since he is known to like this archetype, at least in RU, because trying to stall someone who knows the tier better than you do is never a good idea imo, especially when said player is as good as stresh of course. 70-30

Lime vs Feliburn: Fire match up, Lime is coming back after a week break and I believe will truly cook with Denial. Though I am holding Feli here, it will he a close match and I would be pleasantly surprised to see Lime win.
elodin vs Kushalos: Kushalos is BACK. I am bolding Kushalos cuz he has a more general knowledge of the metagame and I am sure he'd use this to his advantage.
robjr vs TheFranklin: Ngl both have been my favourites this SCL soooo. Franklin has been doing very well though and well Rob is great and all but I am not letting the guy let away with flying resist Hoodra.
BIHI vs Fogbound: I don't really know either player well so just bolding Bihi cuz he's made massive improvements over the entirety of SCL and his teams do be looking fun.
xavgb vs entrocefalo: Stresh my GOAT
Edit: just hoping whoever brings Noivern wins.

Lime vs Feliburn Honestly, this is a really good matchup, but I'm going to have to give the bold to Feliburn, though it is close.
elodin vs Kushalos Idk much about these two, so imma just bold Kushalos since they looked good in the earlier weeks.
robjr vs TheFranklin Robjr has been doing great in SCL, but well.... TheFranklin is TheFranklin. So I'm bolding them
BIHI vs Fogbound Lake Another close pairing, but I'm giving the edge to Fogbound. They have been using really inventive teams and getting wins (or at worst, close loses). BIHI is definetely still amazing, so I'm not going to be surprised if they win either.
xavgb vs entrocefalo Stresh my GOAT

Lime vs Feliburn Very fire matchup, I will pick Lime the TMs have brought consistently good teams and I like Lime's style of play
elodin vs Kushalos I do not believe in 0-x kushalos
robjr vs TheFranklin I would love if Franklin could notch another dub to close out the season, he's had some rough games rng wise
BIHI vs Fogbound Lake Fog has built some very strong teams in a variety of playstyles
xavgb vs entrocefalo I have tried to bold someone else thinking stresh has to lose at some point, but he is so locked in

WEEK 8 RECAP POW POW POW

1730720323290.png
vs
1730720334875.png

The highlight match for many last week with two great players, Feliburn vs Lime. Feliburn brings a BO with one of his signature mons in Registeel along with more interesting picks in Entei and Toxtricity. Lime loads up an offense with a core that popped up last SCL in fezmag. Things start off rough for Feliburn as Armarouge pressures his team with Calm Mind and snagging a kill on Noivern, but does reveal an interesting set in sub Entei. Later, Lime reveals a non-choiced Basculegion-F that got a surprise kill on a Slowbro thinking it was a safe switch-in on the Basculegion-F locked into surf. With Noivern and Slowbro down, Feliburn tries his best to play around Gapdos and Krookodile but it's futile as Lime emerges victorious this week.

1730800157039.png
vs
1730800169121.png

The chef is back from PU and brought along his creative sets in roar throat spray Volcanion and counter focus sash Krookodile on a bulky offense featuring a core that pops up every now and then, Suicune and Cresselia. Elodin also brings a bulky offense with Alolan Ninetales's second appearance. The game progresses as the funky sets get revealed, Kushalos burns tera on Gengar only to get one kill on a weakened Gligar as elodin U-turns with Cyclizar instead of knocking. It is only after Bisharp gets encored by Ninetales that its set gets revealed, calm mind dkiss that steals the game with nothing being able to take down after tera water. Real unfortunate for Kushalos, but Elodin walks away with the win.

1730894523523.png
vs
1730894531315.png

We see the rare HO from none other than the tier leader himself, while robjr loads a standard BO, no frills no nothin. The game starts hot with Mew setting up a nasty plot and forcing a tera from rob so quickly. Franklin however clicks the wrong move as Noivern switches in for free on the earth power and revenge killing a very threatening mon to rob's team. The game carries on, with another questionable play in shift gearing again on Slowbro that leads into a very unfortunate gunk shot miss. With rocks up and Yanmega sacked, Franklin lacks the tools to win and gives Feralgatr his first loss.

1730898710201.png
vs
1730898719872.png

Cool teams from both sides featuring interesting electric-types after Thundurus's departure. The game starts with BIHI's Volcanion applying that offensive pressure with Salamence barely being able to check it. We get to see more cool techs like twave Umbreon and CB Cyclizar (again) which is not able to check Raikou at all and folds rather quickly. Fogbound reveals LO Salamence which really puts a number on BIHI's team. With Kilowattrel down and Umbreon burnt, Raikou seizes the chance to set up a substitute again, and all it took was one calm mind alongside tera Fairy to seal the game, with no tera on BIHI's side to save him, Sneakyplanner would be proud.

1730904165109.png
vs
1730904175021.png

Lastly we bring you the shortest game last week, with entro bringing an honest bulky offense while stresh brought 5 mean assholes and a Lucario. CB Gapdos knocks out Armarouge turn one, with the two switching around after that until Noivern finds itself staring down a Gyarados on turn 6, unbeknownst to it that it will be the last thing entro sees before getting swept by moxie Gyarados.

Krookodile is BACK after a short hiatus last week, and its still putting up numbers. Quagsire completely vanished too, really makes you wonder why last week was so different yet unified among all players. Zapdos-Galar is picking up in popularity too as one of the tier's best scarfers. Armarouge is doing what it does best, win games.

We start off with Franklin vs BIHI, these two could've had a better season, with both of their teams unable to make playoffs but here they are to provide us with one last match. Franklin brings some sort of Umbreon Goodra fat, a common core you'll see every now and then but it's important to note Franklin's Goodra here is not specs, also Kleavor is here. BIHI brings sun, not unseen before this tournament but it definitely hasn't performed well so far, will BIHI be the one to make it work? The game plays out with BIHI on the offense, poking holes through Franklin's team slowly but surely, it comes down to CM Reuniclus vs the world, but a clutch Tera dark on Venusaur stops it in its tracks and gives BIHI the win.

We finally get to see Metallica in action after being brought in the midseason auction by the shoguns. He brings a standard looking BO with RU's beloved Bellibolt. Stresh's team is not that far off but it does have the more interesting sets in hazards Mew that he brought earlier this tournament and idef body press Slowbro later confirmed by him. Bellibolt gets a lucky para on Krook early on and exhausts Tera right after. Specs Volcanion puts up numbers as it has no real switchins and forces stresh to tera to revenge kill it after poking some holes. The game ends after Metallica's Krookodile comes in and gets the Moxie boost, Metallica remains undefeated this season!

Rob brings an HO, plain, simple, and demonic. Feliburn brings a BO with a milotic on it, how cute. Unfortunately, lead NP Mew is awkward for Feli as he struggles to deal with it, psychic noise to keep some mons low. Revenge killing it does allow Maushold to set up and forces a tera from Hippowdon to live bullet seed. The game continues with Feliburn on the back foot, and its rather close as the two players play out a difficult endgame but rob does end up winning as he proceeds with his team to playoffs.

More HO! Not much to say here, mons dropping left and right with Lime's mimikyu looking really good in the endgame. We get to see custap berry Volcanion put in work which is always cool. And as predicted, Lime's mimikyu ends up sweeping without even needing to SD thanks to the preserved Disguise and the Life Orb providing a much needed damage boost.

More HO!!!! But this time its cinema with Santu using Lime's team and Kush with a cloyster. If Kush loses, he ends the season winless, not a good look for the 26.5k player. The game plays with Cloyster almost doing the dash with tera ghost blast but big bitch Volcanion barely lives +1, proceeding to KO the Lilligant thanks to the epic custap berry tech. It looks over for Kush with last mon Armarouge but Santu foolishly procs its weakness policy, and endure on the Gyarados's waterfall which was apparently hurricane? I don't know, but Kush wins. Please watch this game its peak.

Thanks to HO being weirdly popular this round, the top mons are just the HO goons, with Mew being #1, 4 uses on HO and 1 on non-HO, followed by Volcanion and Armarouge. Blah blah blah.

More importantly, the regular season has concluded with the following records for our beloved players

With the top three players advancing to poffs with their teams and. BIHI! Most excited to see what these guys will cook up next, see you next week gamers. Oh wait cumulative usage stats

Now that semifinals started, I'm gonna tag all the players who didn't make it to playoffs, please share any thoughts on the tournament/your performance/the tier, teams, or even predicts! Any helpers that have been working in the shadows are also most welcome to. I hope everyone enjoyed playing this tier, it's been an awesome tournament to spectate and we got to see some impressive showings by some who aren't as involved with the tier. Good luck to those in semifinals as well.

My usual post-SCL post incoming. I think this was the year I was out of it the most, and the 5-4 is a good indicator of the ceiling I achieve with this mindset. I built perhaps 4 of my teams this tour, and 2 of them lost ROFL if not for Ajna reviving and joining my chat after w3 I'm pretty sure I go 1-4 into bench. So big shoutouts to him for always being there, and to Master Chief for also aiding me after I loaded Tauros. You two basically carried me to a positive season.

9PXO2PO.png

My w1 team was fairly standard. I didn't have much to go from entering this tour so I loaded a 6 that I felt comfortable using. I think Umbreon is an amazing Pokémon in general, and it got even better after Okidogi left the tier. I was going to load it my last 2 weeks but I couldn't finish any decent teams with it. It just feels like a decent anti BS glue to have. I also think Zapdos is the best scarfer in the tier, and that it can also be even more scary for common BOs when it isn't choiced. Armarouge is also a great breaker. I think this is a mon you have to approach in a very specific way to not get steamrolled by it, not sure if broken but amazing for sure. Guss is an underrated mon, and while I get the appeal of running moves like Stun Powder, I think the most consistent set you can run is STABs, Toxic & Foul Play to force chip and tank hits. I remember I thought I was clever by running Tera Electric Shuca Berry Empoleon to cover either Tera Ground or Tera Electric Yanmega, but it never came into play. Then god Hippo that has more and more haters as time goes by, but I stand by it being a great mon to use.

iA7C0PC.png

My logic behind this team is Inteleon being an amazing breaker vs more bulky teams. Teams that rely on Slowbro / Cyclizar to check offensive waters while not being forced to run a Choice Scarf like Basculegion to not be as easily rkillable. I went for a spikestack with Overqwil as an option cause I thought taunt split Qwil was great at handling slow mons like Slowbro, Reuni, etc. My one issue with this team was that I did not know how to include a dragon resist, and at one point I said "I just pray I don't see a Goodra" but I ended up facing an offensive Noivern which was actually worse for the team. I really don't think my idea itself was flawed, but I tried to cut some corners with the team and was punished accordingly. This was also when I decided to use Knock Off EQ Goodra to lure in steels like Empoleon who wall Inteleon, and it kinda picked up after this.

92EzWrd.png

I can't say much about this team. I think this was the week when I was out of it the most. I kinda just didn't want to deal with HO so I loaded my usual anti BS mons Wo-Chien and Registeel, with a Ditto cause it felt funny. I had tspikes Psynoise Gengar to annoy fat cores, and Kilowattrel as a fast pivot to scare away Thundurus. Tauros was just offensive pressure, soft Slither check too, and honestly, it doesn't feel terrible in very specific matchups. I think in general there's a big appeal for me to using fast offensive waters in the tier. I ended up facing a very standard 6 and just didn't have the tools to beat it. I still think individually, mons like Kilo and Tauros have a very funny niche in the tier, but this team just didn't have much going for it to really be consistent.

Ajna recommended something with Hwish Chansey, so I immediately thought of doing something with Mimikyu + Bisharp SD spam. The original skeleton was struggling a lot because it didn't have much backbone against fat wincons, so I ended up changing the Bisharp for Goodra, and we came up with a funny Tera Poison Acid Spray Goodra that 1v1s non cloak Fez. I find it funny how we all used Quagsire this week, but my main goal behind using it was just be as anti BS as possible, since elodin's wins had been mainly using offense. We changed it to scarf trick Noivern in the end because making progress was a bit difficult, and it was a nice set to nab some surprise KOs on like Scarf Zapdos.

These are the main 4 teams I built, with the last one being more of a team effort but still a skeleton I made. The other teams were made by Ajna & Master Chief.

The main approach behind these squads was (in order):

iZWeGbT.png

vs Fogbound Lake, we noticed that they ran very slow teams with speed control Twave Thundurus, so this was a perfect week to load a more offensive VoltTurn with a fast breaker in Barra, an offensive Noivern, and strong priority on Slither Wing. We also loaded a specially defensive Life Orb Reuniclus to annoy their bulky cores.

DI1ZZiA.png

vs Franklin, we didn't really have a concrete idea to go off with his scout, so we decided to make a team centered around Feraligatr, with healing wish Jirachi and Revival Blessing Pawmot, to give Gatr as many lives as possible and just break through teams.

j80bvK3.png

vs Django we decided to keep it simple and load something consistent. I felt like I had been playing great so far, so it was just trying to cover as much as possible and just play it smart. Scarf Tera Fairy Krook was the flavor set of the week, and one that has been coined Felikrook cause Feliburn Hisui made it (I'll take it tho).

ZqMvaRD.png

vs Lime we had a few ideas to go, but the main one was Sub Entei since they hadn't been loading defensive waters or things that can really sponge a strong Sacred Fire, and substitute is a great tool to scout teras from mons like Bisharp or Armarouge. The original team was going to a different direction, but we took a step back cause I wasn't feeling too confident using it. I think this was the first week since we started building for real where we got the wrong matchup we were hoping for, since legion tore us apart and AV zone owned our Tox.

vs robjr the main idea I wanted to explore was non choiced Zapdos, and the one scarfer that made sense with it was Zoroark Hisui. We also had an idea of using sub CM jirachi, so for the sake of adding it to the team the rest of the backbone was fairly standard in Hippo, Milo & Fez. We originally said we wanted to cover HO cause rob used HO vs me last year in w9 of SCL, but due to time constrains we just loaded a more standard team with the sets we had in mind. I don't think we missed the mark that much but with more time, we could have patched the HO matchup a bit more.

I think my losses were for sure related to my prep this tour, because I honestly feel happy with how I played all my games. The last 2 weeks of the tour Ajna and I got busy so the quality of prep was lower compared to the middle of the tour, and it's noticeable that we fell just a little short in the endgames of the last 2 games. Next year if I do sign up I think I'm gonna be needing a guaranteed support slot, because it's clear that I can no longer be called a full self-sufficient slot ROFL but either way I always enjoy playing SCL. I think the competition was fun. s/o to Lime didn't think the guy who PMd me to be nat's replacement in the trios tour would end up owning the competition, so great stuff for you. I'm gonna be rooting for xavgb to take it home cause I think the terrors deserve it (if u guys win the one year I'm not in the chat I will be a little bit sad tho LMAO).

Now for semis predicts:
Lime vs robjr - I think this is a really funny matchup to predict. Both players have consistently loaded similar teams throughout the entire tour, with robjr sticking to very bulky standard Krook - Steel - Water teams, with Lime going for more offensive momentum based teams with Armarouge Flygon type of mons. Like you can notice the similarities of their scout throughout the season UNTIL last week when they both loaded HO. I think it comes down to who can patch up their common weaknesses without staying away from their winning playstyles. I give robjr the edge cause of experience, but I also know switching it up can often be uncomfortable for him.

xavgb vs BIHI - shorter predict but I don't really have a reason to bold against stresh. His loss last week is something I can relate to, cause there's something about the way metallica plays plus his teams that I always find obnoxious to play against. I think BIHI is great, and his season has been alright with ups and downs every week. I just don't see the consistency yet to predict for him, especially against Xavier Great Britain.

:mew:Lime vs robjr:exeggutor:
Probably the closest matchup of these semi-finals as both players had a pretty similar journey during this tournament and so have comparable W-L records. I was more impressed by rob's builds so far since I found them more diverse and rich in general, special mention to that nice Glowbro Registeel core that he used a for a couple of games and seems to work pretty well. Lime has been less surprising with a lot of very straightforward offenses or bulky offenses with Thundurus Flygon Slither Wing. Nevertheless, Lime's ingame has been excellent this tournament, last week particularly with these Mimikyu plays was very entertaining to watch. While I still don't understand why Custap Volcanion works as well as it has in this tournament, I'm putting Lime slightly above robjr on this one. Mostly because I know Lime can really tryhard this game when he sets his mind to it and I mean it's the semi-finals of SCL so what better time to go all in. I don't doubt that rob has this ability too but since I've witnessed Lime's first hand, I'm more inclined to give him the edge here. Also important to note that Lime won their previous match, even if this can be nuanced by saying the game happened a while ago in Week 2 and that it was largely accelerated by the fact that rob's Hippo didn't have Whirlwind . 55-45

vs BIHI:zapdos-galar:
As I said a few weeks ago, I wouldn't bold anyone against stresh for this tournament. He won their last game which was pretty recent compared to Lime and rob's. BIHI's team didn't have a real speed control so it folded to Scarf Gapdos easily after Thundurus got chipped. I think stresh is better both in the builder and in game as he showed throughout the tour. Both of them are used to high pressure games, which is less the case in the other semi-finals it's amusing. As we also saw last week, BIHI has a tendency to resort to cheesy tactics against top RU players and he is right because it seems to work although we can note the pretty sketchy ending. His team from Week 6 against stresh wasn't that bad in that department too if we forget the speed control thing, it had a fun Swagger Scale Shot Krookodile and Horoark with Swords Dance Balloon Terrakion. All of this to say that BIHI is a very experienced player, that he knows how to approach situations like this and he definitely can pull this off. 70-30
