Setting Up Wi-Fi.

Alright I need to get Wi-fi going, I need to know what router I should get and etc. Im planning on being able to use my DS anywhere in the house and my PS2. What whould I need etc for this to be possible?

Im planning on being able to join the Smogon Wi-fi tourny for D/P so I need to get this running ;]

I'm using a Belkin F5D7230-4 (that's what it says under model number on the back, at least). It was cheaper than Nintendo USB wifi connector and it works perfectly. It also has all the standard features you'd expect from a router -- WEP or WPA, use it as what we commonly think of as a router or just an access point, etc.

Oh yeah, definitely DO NOT get the Nintendo Wi-Fi adaptor - a friend of mine got it and she said it was absolute trash.

so if I have Wi-fi set up can I connect anywhere in my house with my DS. And Im guessing I would need some kind of adapter for my ps2 to do the same?

Yeah, the DS will pretty much work from the get-go once the router is set up, and good routers will usually have a good radius of use. And yeah, you'll need an adapter for the PS2.

I've heard a lot of the opposite. Also, why don't people look at my guide for the basics of at least game setup? It makes me cry. : (

Your friend probably needed to update her software for the USB Adapter.

Also, Wii works just about the same as a DS when setting up its Wi-Fi connection.

My Nintendo dongle works perfectly, I've seen mixed reports of it working and not working, right now quite a few Wal-Marts actually have a huge sale on the dongle for about $8 each, but ymmv. For the PS2, it looks like about a $30 add-on to use wifi (if you go cheap) but depending on your PS2 model you may have to purchase the PS2 Network adapter which also runs about $30 on eBay, don't think you can find this in stores anymore but if you check GameStop.com's backordered products you may find one at a store near you.

I own the LINKSYS WRT54GL (that "L" is the most important part of the name), which works great for me and is probably one of the best routers on the market. However, the default interface/firmware sucks, you should definitely get dd-wrt if you plan to do any wireless networking. (Installing this will void your warranty, but unless you unplug your router while it's installing, it won't brick it.) I had no difficulty at all getting my DS to connect using this thing. The range on this thing is amazing, using my laptop I was able to get a decent signal strength halfway down the block. From my experience, this thing can handle four different PCs plus whatever video game systems are hooked up to it without any strain.

Whatever you choose, make sure that it has decent range. The generic router that my ISP provided had a maximum range of 30 feet, and to get a strong signal you needed to be within 10 feet. (I live in a fairly large house, so this didn't cut it.)

Apple Airport Express.
After you learn how to install it (i.e. what order to plug things in), it works great. No problem with my PC and Wii accessing it at the same time.
The light on it is quite useful too.

I just got a cheap-assed wireless router from some online shop, and that is happy with my PC, my dad's laptop, my DS and my Wii all connecting wirelessly and a laptop wired to it as well. I set it all up with minimal effort, and haven't had any problems with it (apart from when I accidently banned my dad from accessing it). The point of this post is that you don't need any skill to set them up, if I can manage it then anyone can.

EDIT: it's an SWBR-5400 if that means anything to anyone, it was the cheapest I could find!

I originally bought the official Nintendo Wifi Adapter, and had it for a year with no problems what so ever.

I then bought a cheap cableandwireless router from Argos, cost like £25... works fine everywhere in the house, even in my garden!

Though this is pointless since you live in America.
