Shoddy Battle 2 (the future of Shoddy Battle)

Right now it's not the "extra stuff" that's keeping it from being released. Colin previously commented that not everything is in the game yet (relative to moves, items, etc.).
Well, that was 2 and a half month ago, so maybe it´s finished now?

It's really close now from what I've heard, but there are a few more mechanics and such that still need to be put in to finally pull it all together.


Note that nobody involved with the creation of SB2 is being paid or anything. They'll get it done when the can.
 
will we be able to choose between diamond/pearl, platinum and hg/ss sprites? Because a lot of the new sprites look cooler than the dp ones. Also, why did you decide to call it shoddy? (just curious)

I think you can redownload the sprites and replace the default sprite package with those.

You can. There's a thread about how to update to the HG/SS sprites here. You can also replace any individual sprite you want to customize your shoddy battle a bit using the same method listed there.
 
Do we have a general time frame as to when it will be released? I recall a while back a release was set for the later months of 2009.
 
The release was not set for anytime, IIRC. It was said that it would take at least till then, but not guaranteed to be ready by then.

A full game server, with scripting, and all associated scripts, as well as a customized client for that server, can take awhile to build, what with protocols, GUI's, graphics, and everything to build, not to mention any bugs that show up. And don't forget any real life commitments that show up.

...Can anyone tell I write software for others? Not trying to be harsh, just letting you know: these things take time to get right.
 
Yeah, I understand these things take time and I'm not trying to be impatient, I was just wondering if there was any news regarding the time of it's release.
 
Not to sound impatient but what happened to that update thread Colin was planning on making a month or two ago? I was really looking foward to it :(
 
I have a concern regarding the double bttles-has it been tested to its fullest?
I'm no code writer but I do know that this game is very coplicated with all the things you can do in a single battle. I cannot imangine all the crack-pot plans created for double battles (like the move skill swop, etc).
I do not have a doubt in my mind that you guys have cracked it, but have you guys triple checked how theses things work?

Custap berry? It's missing in shoddy 1, along with Enigma Berry, and a bunch of other items people don't normally use >_> You need to incorporate all the hold items, even if some don't see as much play ;_;

I was a little disappointed when some of my neat tricks were missing.

Yeah, I wasn't asking for a release date, I was refering to this post by Colin:

Anyway, I plan to post a more detailed overview of the state of Shoddy Battle 2 later, including some information on what features are in the initial release, and what ones will have to wait for later releases. As for a "release date", I reiterate again that this is volunteer work, but I understand that a lot of people are excited for the program. I may say something more specific when I make my more detailed post.

Yeah, I really wish they'd add Air mail.
 
On the 'disallow spectators' thing, I'm kind of mixed. It would be cool to have both a friend list and a black list. I want people on my friend list to be able to watch my battles even if I don't want scouts snooping around before a tournament. Take the world cup for example, I want my team mates to know where I'm at in terms of ability and what ideas I have in mind. Just a thought.

I'm sorry to interrupt an existing conversation, but I thought the implementation of a "friend list" for shoddy could be an interesting idea, imo.

Ya, would a friend's list be possible?
 
Now with Generation 5 behind the door, will this be delayed to make it up to date with Gen5?

There's a chance that Game freak could implement a new mechanic or multiple ones, remove current ones or even more other different kind of changes which could render all this work outdated :/
 
hi guys i dont know if you helped make the original shoddy battle but to who ever did thank you its great and i personally appreciate the amount of time you guys give so we all can have shoddy battle. also im really looking foward to shoddy battle 2 as it looks like you guys have gotten rid of the minor problems from the original. i esspecially like how you made the moves in bold print as that was my biggest hope for shoddy battle 2 i hope when a status is inflicted its in bold too which im sure you all discussed. anyways really just wanted to say thank you for making this for us and the time you spend making a program and not asking for anything in return. it is nice to see some people are truly decent thanks again.
 
I don't know for a fact but I would say that SB2 is a long way from being done. If I were to take a stab in the dark I would say that it might be available sometime in the summer. Again this is not an official statement just a guess.

I'm guessing most likely 2011 at the earliest. Since I think this is still very much developing.

You forget that 5th gen is on the horizon. Think about how many new pokemon, items, moves, and possibly new game mechanics they will have to deal with. I think sometime 2011 is a perfectly reasonable ETA.
That doesn't affect anything until the 5th gen is released though, which won't be until fall this year in Japan. And I don't think Colin and bearzly are going to withhold it until after the 5th gen is released and they've gotten everything from it added in, if it's otherwise finished. From what it sounds like, the new Pokemon, moves, etc, won't be a real issue to add into Shoddy 2, as it's being designed with that kind of stuff in mind. The only thing that might be a bit of an issue is if there's some kind of huge mechanics change in Generation 5, but that would be a bridge that would be crossed when it appears, and wouldn't be something that really affects the release date of Shoddy 2, except maybe to modify it a bit with that kind of stuff in mind, so it's not such a big deal if and when it happens.
