Sick of Suicide Leads? Check out this Booming Lead!

Alright, we are all sick of Stealth Rocks getting set up first turn. Fast Pokemon like Azelf, Aerodactyl... Some of the fastest Pokemon in the game lead off and either Taunt or Stealth Rock. Annoying, eh? (I'm Canadian)

So I was looking for a fast Taunter, and noticed that Electrode gets it. In the analysis, it only has Taunt in for a Rain Dance set. I came up with this set and it not only outspeeds Aerodactyl, and therefore Azelf, too, but can blow up on stuff and support the team, too!

Electrode @ Life Orb / Focus Sash
Ability: Static
EVs: 148 Atk/228 Spd/132 SAtk
Hasty nature (+Spd, -Def)
- Taunt
- Thunderbolt
- Explosion
- Light Screen / Rain Dance / Hidden Power Ice

Life Orb can pack that extra power on its attacks. You can faint Aerodactyl in one Thunderbolt with Life Orb and 132 Special Attack EVs. With Focus Sash, don't count on it with those EVs but still if it runs 0 HP EVs it's a possibility.

Taunt will nulify any Stealth Rock attempts from their lead, along with any other type of setup move. Most of the time people don't expect a Taunt, so they Stealth Rock, only to have it rendered useless.

Thunderbolt with Life Orb and those EVs will always KO Aerodactyl even if it has 100 HP EVs. It runs off STAB and is a good attack in general.

Explosion is there to go out with a bang. It can be replaced if you don't have plans of blowing him up, but it does do a ton of damage to many things.

Your next move is up to your team. Personally I like Light Screen because it allows you to take on Azelf after it tries to Stealth Rock. Rain Dance can help you depending on your team. If you plan for Electrode to be around a long while, then you might wanna consider a Hidden Power to clean up with its exceptional speed late game.

So Electrode is a very good lead and can counter many of the common OU leads. It seems virtually unseen in the OU Metagame, but it acutally is a great way to keep Stealth Rocks off the field early.

Yeah, still loses to Deoxys-S.

But, I made something similar too this, only using a Scarf Smeargle which outruns everything except Deoxys-S with Spore, Trick, Endeavor and SR/Spikes,

Still, it may work, you should test it out.

I actually ran this set before (with nearly the exact same EVs!); it was nice to outspeed common leads.

However, it just...doesn't work too well. Rain Dance is indeed something I didn't consider. Common leads that it doesn't do so hot against are Bronzong, Azelf, Infernape and the like. Bronzong just walls the crap outa him, while I doubt even with Life Orb he'd being doing much damage to Infernape and Azelf (3hko iirc; no point in using T-Bolt first if Explosion is your only hope at 2hko). He can counter Crobat quite well atleast.

The thought is excellent, but Electrode just can't compete with other Fast-sash starters, and especially not Bronzong and Deoxys-S. He beats 3 other common starters in Gyarados, Aerodactyl and Crobat, atleast, and he CAN set up, like you mentioned.

I was looking into this as a lead, until I realized it doesn't learn Sunny Day (/sadface)

I think this would work a lot better in UU now that Aero is running around, which is what I was planning to use it for.

So this would be useful how? Scarf Smeargle is outclassed by this particular lead, as atleast Electrode prevents Stealth Rock from being setup, meanwhile Smeargle must activate sleep clause. Both lose to Deoxys-S... I am confused.

I never said Smeargle was better than this. All I said was that both are similar in function, though Smeargle would see better oppurtunitiesto use its moves as Trick screws over any wall and it can still screw over all Suicide Leads except for Deoxys S. But, that's what Suspect Test is for.

It deals with Azelf, but I think I'd like Crobat more for this type of lead as it doesn't die intstantly to any attack and can U-Turn out of Bronzong. Electrode can set up Rain Dance better though and Explosion is rad.

I don't really know but i think that it was mentioned in the other suicide lead thread that well, a faster suicide lead counters another. And if you're using Rain Dance, you could list Thunder as an option over Thunderbold due to the 100% accuracy in the rain.

This set still looks looks uncannily similar to Smogon's Electrode...

I used a similar set in UU for a bit, and in that last "filler" slot, I liked Mirror Coat. It partners up perfectly with Taunt and Focus Sash...it's the definition of filler, but I was constantly finding oppurtunities to bag surprise kills so it's worth a shot. :)

I've been using this on the suspect ladder for about a week now with a slighly different set. I had the same problem, I was looking for a fast taunter. It does lose to deoxys x, but is the fastest taunter over there...

Electrode @ Focus Sash
Hasty Nature
Evs: 252 Attack, 252 Speed
Mirror Coat
Explosion
Taunt
Toxic/Light Screen/Thunder Wave

Basically built to predict: If they set up or status, taunt. Mirror Coat if you predict special attack. If they switch, Status or Light Screen, and explode when his job's done. This can be a bit of a liability, but pairs well with a good revenge killer if you need to sacrifice it.

I used a similar set with different EV placement...specifically tailored to outspeed Aerodactyl and Crobat (the former of which was seemingly everywhere after Husk posted his rmt)

Electrode @ Focus Sash
Hasty (+Spd -Def)
EV's: 80 Atk, 176 Spd, 252 Sp. Attack
Ability: Static

-Thunder Wave
-Thunderbolt
-Light Screen
-Explosion

The EV's generate 396 speed. The rest thrown into Sp. Attack to give Thunderbolt a kick, although with a meager base 80 it admittedly won't do much. 80 Atk EV's allow Explosion to seriously damage walls (but it won't KO Blissey).

Static > Soundproof in this case, as there is a 30% chance that contact moves will paralyze. It's a great strategy against SD Luke, whose movepool consists entirely of contact moves; using Extremespeed will KO Electrode, but it might be paralyzed in the attempt.

IMO it works better in the Suspect Ladder where there is no Deoxys-S, because Deoxys can do everything 'Trode can but better.

Against Deoxys-E, you should just slap Electrode a Sash and boom right from Turn 1. However, I wouldn't use a Pokémon just to sacrifice it when Deoxys-E leads and who can't stop it from setting up the rocks.
