Resource Simple Questions/Simple Answers: Random Battles Edition

Sorry if this has been asked before, but, how do you deal with sub + leech seed mons?
From my experience, fast fire types usually do the trick, as well as switching out to pp stall and gain momentum. You can also rely on recovery since subseed mons are usually pretty passive in retrospect.

There are plenty of options depending on your team and which sub seeder you're facing. Pivoting moves from slower mons can help break the sub while not allowing them to gain leech recovery. Multi hit moves can help you get through the sub. Sound moves go through the sub, and psychic noise specifically also prevents them from recovering health. If you have a regenerator mon + mon with healing moves can try stalling out leech seed PP. Predicting when they protect to get your switches right is helpful to reposition without being damaged. Fast encore, taunt and substitute can stop them from cycling/ lock them into a move so you can get your threats in. Each sub seeder is slightly different but these are some general options that can help.

Is there any resource available that lists all possible sets for random battle pokemon? I know it has to exist internally for the game to function, but I was curious if it's available for just everyday users.

Or if sets aren't available, where can I find a list of all pokemon legal in the format? Is it just gen 9 regional dex and I missed that somewhere or is the list different?

The cleanest way to look at it is the github (Showdown! is totally open source) but it requires more coding knowledge. Alternatively, the json is found here and this includes probabilities which grants greater specificity, but it's ugly (click the Pretty Print checkbox in the top left, trust me lol).

I remember a while back some changes were made to make certain set redundancies less likely to happen. I was wondering if something like this is also a part of that?

Saw you added yawn to Swampert, does it always come together with flip turn?

Generated 700 sets for Swampert in [Gen 9] Random Battle:
Approximately 19% (130 sets) had the moves Yawn and Flip Turn.
Generated 700 sets for Swampert in [Gen 9] Random Battle:
Approximately 19% (132 sets) had the move Yawn and did not have the move Flip Turn.
Generated 700 sets for Swampert in [Gen 9] Random Battle:
Approximately 0% (0 sets) had the moves Yawn and Roar.

it was added to the set without any rule other than it cannot appear with roar

I see, what's the weight on flip turn to generate?

Hello,

I've been practicing Randbats casually for a couple years now and I was wondering what rating I have to be in order to possibly be able to play in a randbats team tournament? Also when is the next one?

Thanks.

there is no set elo threshold to reach for participating in RBTT, the managers of that tour often pick standout individuals who have succeeded in our other team tours and rands slam. the next one will probably start around the same time as the last, near the end of the year december/january next year

thanks. I didn't specifically mean that series though just any kind of tournament for random battles with teams like I know the world cup finished recently.

Considering I won't be a person who has done will in the past or is known in any way, if I just wanted to join and get picked, what elo would you think I would need to be for them to give me a chance? If I can get to top 500 would that be enough or still no?

It's genuinely not possible to gauge that type of thing in WCOR (world cup of randoms) in particular. Since the pool of players managers have to pick from is restricted by region, your likelihood of making it into that tournament is partly dependent on the quality of other players in your region vying for your slot. I imagine from your suggestion that making top 500 could be a benchmark that you're vying for Gen 9 Random Battle, and Gen 9 slots are often quite competitive, but there is room for ladder heroes to be in the third Gen 9 slot on a lot of teams. It's really up to the managers.

But bobomania is correct that tournament records are more important metrics than ladder placement to most managers when deciding what team to draft. In some ways you need to pay your dues by doing well in solo tours before you'll be seriously considered for a team tour. If you take a slot, someone else loses out on that slot, and managers construct teams with the intention to win, so they try to minmax their roster. Having statistical data to validate the idea that you're a good player assists in that minmaxing.

My advice would be to get involved in the community, in particular the room on Pokémon Showdown! (if you win lots of roomtours for example, it could be enough to get a bench slot because you'd be considered a viable all-rounder), and otherwise certainly get involved in Rands Slam next year and get some good solo tour records under your belt. A good ladder record is unlikely to make you a contender for RBEL (the second division of RBTT) this year, especially if you are vying for Gen 9, but it's possible. For WCOR it depends on your region.

Thanks this is really helpful. I will take your advice.

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9randombattle-2222726305-49zckbunsx7r637506yo6aghraixwi6pw I got 3 pokemon that could set spikes in this battle, should this be happening?
2 spikers are permitted because one spiker can rarely set up 3 layers by itself and 3 layers of Spikes is usually strong. Ceaseless Edge is one-way integration of this; if you have Ceaseless Edge + Spikes a later Pokémon won’t get Spikes, but 2 Spikes doesn’t block Ceaseless Edge. This is because it’s Samurott-Hisui’s best attack with or without Spikes users surrounding it. Smeargle genned after Ogerpon-Wellspring and Froslass, so the code worked as intended.

Question about Shedinja rolling on a team.
Just had a Gen 5 match where my lead mon was Hippowdon, and I had a Shedinja on my team. There were no other weather setters/clearers in the match so it was permanent sandstorm, meaning the Shedinja was instantly KO'd upon switch in.

Is there any way to prevent/limit rolling a Shedinja in a situation like this, where it becomes instantly unusable due to my own team? Rocks or weather on the other team, sure. But just felt odd to be putting myself in a 5v6 before the match even starts.

Thanks, and sorry if this isn't the right forum for questions like this.

ill bring it up to the rest of the team and see if anyone wants to prevent such an instance

its been done, shedinja will no longer generate on a team that already has a damaging weather setter in gens 3-5. it wont prevent all cases of shedinja appearing with hail and sand, but it will prevent the lead situation.

Great, thanks for looking into it.

Since first posting I had another match where I had both Shedinja and Hippowdon, but Hippo wasn't lead and so I was able to play around it as needed - which was totally fine and even enjoyable. It was specifically the weather setting lead that felt off to me so I'm glad you were able to do it in that way.

Cheers
