^ New to the tier and this is a sample team that I've been using, and I haven't been finding treads very useful. It sets up rocks, spins if hazards on my side and then what? I've only seen thunder useful for peli, and steel beam does nothing to mons that resist steel (and a lot do). So it makes me wonder if there is a better mon that I can replace treads with

Iron Treads is a dedicated lead, the idea is to prevent rocks from going up, get rocks up, and then use Steel Beam to faint for a free switch.
You maybe aren’t using it right? But I think this team isn’t very beginner friendly and conducive to learning the tier, might wanna try a different sample.

It is passive as heck though. Like a mon like kingambit can easily use it as setup fodder because its only attack that actually can do damage is steel beam which is a type many mons resist in this tier

So what makes you think this team isn't beginner friendly?
Besides the iron treads, I actually do really like this team

If you want, you can always go Thunder -> Earthquake (with adjusting EVs).

Maybe I’m just ass at mons but it feels tricky to pilot properly. If you’re overall having success with it then go off but I could never lmao.

Yeah I might try eq, I don't think rain teams are that common

Also wanted to say that I'm not new to competitive mons, just new to this gen and format. Last gen OU I didn't use anything more offensive than BO so I decided to try out some HO for this gen's OU

Who do you think will win the next Smog Awards in 2023?

Hey tendokiddo. This part of the forums is dedicated only to discussion regarding the OverUsed tier, that includes this thread which purpose is to clear doubts about OverUsed.

The idea behind Thunder is to scare out Corviknight and thus set Stealth Rock against it. Realistically Kingambit and Gholdengo wont try to set up against you fearing Earthquake, though they might if they know you dont have the move. That being said Earthquake is still a fine option which also hits opposing Iron Treads and Sandy Shocks. I made a post about this set a while ago.

What are some informative OU YouTubers that I could watch and learn from as a newbie to competitive mons? I like pokeaim's personality but he talks really fast and it's hard to keep up with what he's thinking sometimes.

Jamvad Academy is a smaller youtuber when comparing to PokeAim, but has very informative videos mainly regarding the OU tier. He additionally has a large backlog of tutorial playlists pertaining to teambulding, managing tilt (still haven't figured this one out :blobsad:), and fosters a pretty sizable community focused towards competitive pokemon.

Why is Great Tusk so strong and widely used?

Couple of reasons: mainly it's a hazard remover and sets up Stealth Rock. It has access to Knock Off which has been pretty valuable the last couple of generations for match progression. Solid physical bulk to take on other physical sweepers like Kingambit. Has the ability itself to become a sweeper with Bulk Up + Rapid Spin sets and lastly being a ground type to stop Volt Switching. You can also abuse it under sun as a physical wall or a strong physical attacker. It's pretty much a swiss army knife.

Has Storm Zone made any teams since walking wake was released? I used to go high ladder with his stuff back in gen 8 but its been tough this time

Freezai is another Competitive Poketuber who is good at explaining a lot of meta trends, changes, rises and falls of pokemon, and the like. You can learn a lot from Freezai!

They've made some teams that are outdated that have been posted under the Sample Team SV OU thread: https://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/sv-ou-sample-teams.3712513/post-9464352

I don't think they've posted in any RMTs or Sample teams except this one since the Walking Wake release which has been less than 2 months ago.

What are some of the main uses of the pokemon that use dragon dance ? Most of the ones that I see like roaring moon, baxcalibur, and dragonite seem to run different items, is there a reason for this? Also is there way for me to know how to synergize these mons with other defensive or support mons ?

What are some of the main uses of the pokemon that use dragon dance ?

It's one of the most dangerous setup moves in the meta which boosts Physical Attack and Speed, the only thing being better is probably Quiver Dance. The main uses of it is setting up for a potential sweep, speed is important in the meta. In conjunction with boosting physical attack on a strong physical attacker like Baxcalibur, Dragonite and Roaring Moon (who all have attacks that reach 400 Att minimum if adamant nature) becomes a very dangerous combination.

Most of the ones that I see like roaring moon, baxcalibur, and dragonite seem to run different items, is there a reason for this?

Roaring Moon runs Booster Energy to boost it's attack or speed prior to using Dragon Dance has access to proto unlike the other mons. Baxcalibur runs Heavy Duty Boots (since it takes 25% from Stealth Rocks) or Loaded Dice since it has access to Icicle Spear which will allow the move to hit (4-5 times). Dragonite usually run Boots like the same issue with Baxcalibur, sometimes it runs Silk Scarf to boost itself with Tera Normal + Extreme Speed. In short, items vary a lot and is not always the same item since it depends on team build for that specific mon.

Which pokemon are the most common leads?

And if I wanna run Sticky Web, what mons would benefic? (Regardless of the playstyle being garbo lol)

Sticky Web leads would probably just be Masquerain

Common leads in general in SV OU vary a lot (usually based on matchup) but to my knowledge it's usually a pivoter or something that can set up entry hazards or / and switch out easy: Rotom-W, Greninja, Cinderace, Meowscarada, Dragapult, Zoroark-H, Iron Treads, and Glimmora.
