Metagame Sketchmons

Eggs

some days, you just can't get rid of an egg

What is Sketchmons?
Sketchmons is a metagame that answers the common question: "What if [Pokemon] got access to [move]?". In this format, each Pokemon is allowed to "sketch" a move, based on how the move Sketch worked in previous generations. Pokemon may learn one move normally not available to them, with the exception of a few powerful or unhealthy moves restricted to their native learners.

first

anyways some cool ideas I had

:sv/volcarona:
Volcarona @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Flame Body
Tera Type: Psychic
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Quiver Dance
- Lumina Crash
- Fiery Dance
- Bug Buzz

There is no good way to switch into this, Lumina Crash almost invalidates any mon trying to stall it out.
'

:sv/Garchomp:
Garchomp @ Leftovers
Ability: Rough Skin
Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Dragon Claw
- Aqua Step

Garchomp likes running Scale Shot, so why not instead run Aqua Step to hit Great Tusk and the like?

:sv/Glimmora:
Glimmora @ Power Herb
Ability: Toxic Debris
Tera Type: Rock
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Stealth Rock
- Meteor Beam
- Earth Power
- Sludge Bomb

It's like a lead Nihilego or Necrozma last gen, except with a more forward lead heavy Pokemon.

:sv/Mimikyu:
Mimikyu @ Mental Herb
Ability: Disguise
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Healing Wish
- Trick Room
- Will-O-Wisp
- Shadow Sneak

Good Cress-adjacent Pokemon who sets up trick room then dies. Works well with a very slow Houndstone or Kingambit

Sandy Shocks @ Focus Sash
Ability: Protosynthesis
Tera Type: Electric
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Spikes
- Stealth Rock
- Sticky Web
- Volt Switch / Earth Power

With the addition of Sticky Web to it's movepool,:sandy-shocks: becomes an incredible lead on hazard stack offense. It's the fastest option (not including Garchomp, who has better stuff to be doing) with both Spikes and Stealth Rock. 101 is a decent speed stat, giving you the jump on the 100 and 90 speed tiers and setting up in their faces. Volt Switch lets you get your strong offensive breakers in easier, while Earth Power gives you a decently strong hit on threats like Gholdengo and Skeledirge.
0 SpA Sandy Shocks Volt Switch vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Palafin-Hero: 200-236 (58.6 - 69.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
0 SpA Sandy Shocks Volt Switch vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Corviknight: 204-240 (51.1 - 60.1%) -- 84.4% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
0 SpA Sandy Shocks Earth Power vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Gholdengo: 248-294 (65.6 - 77.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
0 SpA Sandy Shocks Earth Power vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Skeledirge: 288-338 (70 - 82.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
I imagine this is going to be the best lead for hazard stacking teams, and an easy inclusion on other HO teams, or on balance/BO teams with a slight EV modification.

Palafin is no longer not banned. I'm keeping the set up though because it's proof that I may or may not have been the one to point this out.

Aquatica Attack (Palafin) @ Punching Glove
Ability: Zero to Hero
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Taunt
- Jet Punch
- Drain Punch

Jet punch is a boon to offensive water types in general, though wave crash will most likely be favored if they have better speed and have aqua jet.

Azumarill @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Huge Power
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Belly Drum
- Jet Punch
- Play Rough
- Ice Punch

Palafin is banned!

Apologies, our Eggs seem to have fallen out of our one basket so I had to scramble and pick up the pieces.

Anyways, Palafin is pretty good in standard pokemon, except now here you can give it a lot: from reliable recovery, to Swords Dance, and even coverage to brute force through former walls such as Toxapex. There's really not much else to say when it has stats like that with an ability that's a mild inconvenience at worst.

Encore is a move. Specifically anti-leads could benefit from a surprise encore after a stealth rock or sticky web to continually set up. (main goal is to outspeed sandy shocks due to the sticky web set).

Dragonite @ ???
Ability: Multiscale
Tera Type: Flying
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Dragon Ascent
- Encore
- Dragon Dance

Iron Valiant @ ???
Ability: Quark Drive
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Encore
- Dragon Dance
- Close Combat
- Spirit Break

Garchomp @ ???
Ability: Rough Skin
Tera Type: Dragon
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Encore
- Earthquake
- Dragon Claw

Salt-Protect Garganacl is super annoying to deal with, so how about adding infestation

Garganacl @ Grip Claw
Ability: Purifying Salt
Tera Type: Rock
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Salt Cure
- Infestation
- Recover
- Protect

Some extra things to add is that stall was nerfed due to the recovery PP decrease, but also to the decreased amount of Pokémon that know toxic, teleport, and scald. While it sucks to not have access to all of them it gives stall a step away from the nerfs it received this gen. (Not an advocate for stall but knowledge is power)

Fun Cloyster set ig

Cloyster @ Something
Ability: Skill Link
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpDef / 252 Speed
Tera: Normal
-Shell Smash
-Icicle Spear
-Population Bomb
-Rock Blast/Liquidation

While not as awful as Maushold would be Shell Smash + Pop Bomb is kinda cringe

just a team
Speed boost (Enamorus) @ Heavy-Duty Boots

Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Spin Out

Hax moment (Sawsbuck-Autumn) @ Life Orb
Ability: Serene Grace
Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

- Headbutt
- Stomping Tantrum

Cocaine Bear (Ursaluna) @ Flame Orb
Ability: Guts
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

Good boi :) (Arcanine-Hisui) @ Heavy-Duty Boots

- Wild Charge

Tera goes hard ngl (Noivern) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Infiltrator
Tera Type: Normal
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Boomburst
- Hurricane
- Flamethrower

GREN IS BACK (Greninja) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Protean
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- U-turn
- Hydro Pump
- Dark Pulse
- Sludge Wave

Also you should probably make a post for these new home bans like groudon and calyrex shadow. Anyway some neato mons
:enamorus:
Can sketch fleur cannon, overheat, headlong rush, dragon ascent probably. Basically it can sketch pretty much any contrary move and it’s INSANE. Clodsire dies to life orb earth power after minor chip damage. Honestly this could be banned real fast.
:chien pao:
This thing is wild. Used it in a cap sketch tour once and it shredded everything. Does experience 4mss between sd, potential sketch move, sacred sword, sucker punch and dual stabs but it’s fierce like usual. Flower trick 2hkos :dondozo: and ohkos :azumarill:, headlong rush does, something probably idk it hits toxapex and fire types.
:garganacl:
What can I say it’s garganacl it can sketch all the amazing utility in the book like parting shot, knock off, ceaseless edge, mortal spin, toxic spikes, will o wisp, sticky web, whirlwind the books kinda endless it’s a great mon.

Hi everyone, Eggs here with the post-home update!

Arceus, Calyrex-Ice, Calyrex-Shadow, Chien-Pao, Dialga, Enamorus, Giratina, Groudon, Kyogre, Palkia, Regieleki, Last Respects, and Shed Tail are now banned from Sketchmons!
  • :chien-pao: had too many options and no true answers, a coverage move exists to blow through every check
  • :enamorus: got Fleur Cannon
  • :regieleki: is quite broken when given coverage
  • Last Respects and Shed Tail are extremely powerful tools that only get more powerful in Sketchmons, when used with new setup moves and setup sweepers, respectively.
We'll keep a close eye on terrastalization in the near future. Expect more updates soon!

I think you need to double check the ban list because stuff like Zacian and Rayquaza are free.

Thanks for the memes everyone, that's what I get for doing stuff late at night. Two quick announcements:

The other obvious bans (Magearna, Rayquaza, Zacian, Zamazenta, Eternatus, Spectrier, and Komala) are now banned! please stop laughing

Lastly, Sketchmons is looking for at least 2 players passionate about this format to join the council! Reach out to me if you're interested!

Mewtwo is banned as well.

Tl;dr any obvious BST giants that was autobanned to ubers that we missed should obviously be banned and will be banned. (Including the Zamazentas)

Pretty cool sflo wallbreaker able to have either hurricane stab or ground/electric or ice coverage, probably doesn't need a ban but it's still pretty powerful and a little unpredictable

(Also I would like to be on council please :woo:)
