Yea I know I'm going to get a lot of shit for writing a long tryhard essay, but it's on the topic and I feel the need to say it.
I think that a lot of the above posters brought up some solid points and this is another chapter in the "integrity of the tournament" book that we will see grow each and every season when it comes to competing teams trying to rely upon eliminated teams to do some late season catching up for them. This happens every year come weeks 8 and 9 and it will continue to in future SPLs.
From an inside perspective of someone on the Bigs, I'd like to state that we are actually trying to win as a team this week. Yes, a lot of this has to do with the fact that people on my team happen to be friendly with guys on the Raiders (hell, we even have TDK and Sam in our channel right now), Tigers, and Ruiners and we want them to (have a chance to) make the playoffs. With that said, we still have to be realistic here. At the end of the day, we're a team that has been eliminated for a few weeks now and it seems unlikely that we will have a full line up dedicated to trying their absolute hardest to prepare and win a fairly meaningless pokemon game to them. Malekith, with all due respect, brought what he "wanted" to (because it was "fun" for him or because he likes Pinsir, I don't know but his reasoning is irrelevant) instead of what was "optimal" and he has the right to bring that and nobody can take that away from him.
Alternatively, I know many people on the Bigs' roster will be trying their best to win this week - I'm doing my normal tryhard shenanigans to prepare for Teddeh, Rozes is going out of his way to learn more about BW OU for Shoka, Bugzinator has had a target on Teal's back since midseason, d0nut and ZoroDark want to finish positive, etc... (I could go on from here, but you guys get it) The point is that we aren't just going to hand the Cryonicles a free win as a team, even if they're leading the series 2-0 now, but for the people who are not of the same level of motivation or with the same mindset and still in the line-up, they are entitled to use what they want regardless of the reasoning.
When it comes down to it, every team is in the position they are now because of what happened beforehand and although you can get as salty over this as you want to, you can't blame an eliminated team for not winning to save your ass when you needed them to because you couldn't do so yourselves (regardless of it being due to luck or not). I hope that all three teams that are sort of reliant upon the Bigs winning understand this and I hope that nobody comes out of this week with a negative view on the Bigs as a whole or any of my teammates because I don't think that would be very fair. With that said, good luck to the Cryonicles and all the other teams this week and hopefully there will be some close, competitive series where the most deserving team gets the fourth playoff spot.
