Smogon Shoddy is up

Been playing it for a little while and it feels shit to lose. I guess now I'll actually have to put effort into my team...

so is there any difference between the official server and the smogon server?
Also will I keep my ladder points if I switch from official to smogon?

- Wobbuffet is banned on Smogon but not on Official
- Event Moves are allowed on Smogon but not on Official
- Smogon has moderators but Official doesn't
- Official has lag but Smogon doesn't

Well it's certainly arguable that we have many more experienced players who battle on Smogon's server as oppose to Official's server. The ladder definately springs to mind, as even I find it difficult to obtain a win streak of five, whereas on Official's ladder, I never found this achievement too difficult to seek out. The general competitivity of our ladder is really impressive and commonly filled with superior players more often than not. So you're bound to have to put effort in if you want to win on a regular basis, if at all.

Shaymin was, iirc with the excuse 'it's not overpowering it's going to have an event why not'. Since Ubers is not a balanced tier anyways and the rest of that can also be said for Arceus, I've been wondering why he isn't allowed too.

A glitch in early Japanese versions of the game enables you to breed illegal movesets, and yet Bellyjet Azumarill and Hypnosis + NP/BB Crobat are unallowed. That is not the reason.

You could say that Shaymin is different because we know we'll be getting it in the future, but then why not just hack an Arcues, since we know we'll be getting it in the future? Most people view those glitches as in the same league as hacking, and I really don't see how it's any different since either way you're exploiting the game by taking advantage of the coding.

Is there any specific reason why this server lags like hell for me, while other servers (official among them) doesn't? =\

I was aware of this glitch. I am not 100% sure, but I believe the reason is the degree of effect the Ditto glitch has on the game. Its effects extend beyond the examples you've quoted, and it was determined to be detrimental to the game, so it was banned. From what I've read, this seems reasonable, and I recall it being hinted at before as being the reason, but I personally don't recall it being directly stated. There is no reason to ban the Shaymin/Darkrai glitch.

There was a lengthy discussion on this topic several months ago. The conclusion was that we do not "know" we're getting Arceus simply because it's in the pokedex, because we've inevitably gotten every other pokemon, or for any other reason, nor would that knowledge have any bearing on whether or not hacking Arceus is permissible. If you disagree, then answer this question, "Why would it?"

If something is possible in-game without the aid of an unauthorized, external device, then it is allowed (provided, of course, that there is not sufficient reason to do otherwise). If otherwise, then it is not allowed. Others are free to operate by whatever definitions they wish, but that does not necessitate consequence or change here.

Then please, instead of saying 'You can get it through a glitch', list every reason why that glitch is permissable and others aren't.

We don't know we're getting Shaymin either. Probably, but not 100% sure. I mean those people could change their minds completely. And I brought up hacking because I see absolutely no difference between the Surf glitch used to get Shaymin and walk-through-walls/hacking Oak's Letter to get Shaymin.

I was under the impression that Smogon doesn't allow anything obtained by such a glitch to be used in a tournament, and that hardly anyone considers glitch Shaymin legal. And again, there's hardly any difference between glitching to get Shaymin and hacking to get it. The creators are in opposition to both and if you showed up at a tournament with a Shaymin obtained through a glitch they would turn you away. If you didn't care what the creators think then there's no reason to be opposed to getting it either way.

Yes, and if you click "Find" it'll pair you up with up to seven opponents, and you can't do anything, forcing one of you to leave to end the match =\.

And you can't select the server and click 'Connect' without Shoddy crashing and you can't close the window either.
I have this problem too, although once it brought me back to the main window and said that my connection timed out. Oh well, being patient....
