Smogon Simple Questions Thread

What places override the Bike music?
I'm just curious. Like in black and white victory road, victory road theme still plays. I'm sorry if wrong thread, please tell me if so I'll take down this post. I'd like to know for all generations.

Yo I’m not sure where to report this so I’m just leaving it here but feel free to tell me where to put this kind of stuff in the future, but I noticed an error on the brand new ORAS Talonflame page. Basically it says “8 Defense” here but that isn’t possible given the other EVs, so I’m letting you know.

You can use this thread for stuff like this in the future, so someone with a badge can submit a change. I submitted a change for that btw.

How do conversations work? When should they be used?
Conversations are just the forum equivalent to DMs. It's a private conversation between only the participants of the conversation, from 2 to pretty large numbers if you want a group chat.

They should just be used to discuss stuff within a particular group of people. The average user probably won't use them much. When I was younger I was in a big group chat of friends, but most have left the forum since then so I generally only use the feature for host-player interactions in Circus Maximus games. I guess the only other time it would be used is if you break a rule badly enough to warrant an infraction by a moderator, as they'll inform you of it via the conversation system (but don't break rules at that won't be relevant for you! :P)

if i make a draft in the sandbox and leave it alone for a while will it be automatically deleted? this keeps happening when i make a draft in the rmt section.

Why do Smogon sets run Swords Dance + U-Turn and Nasy Plot + Volt Switch?
The idea of those sets, especially Torn-T, is to sort of "test the waters." I'm going to use Torn-T as an example. If Torn-T gets in, right off the bat it has a choice on whether it wants to pose a threat by clicking Nasty Plot or keep momentum by clicking U-turn. If the opponent makes an aggressive play and say, switches Kyurem in as Torn-T Nasty Plots, Torn-T again has the option of clicking Focus Blast or hitting U-turn and not taking any risks.

In general, it is chosen so that the wielder of both moves has options. In most cases, mons that run that kind of set don't always need the last coverage moveslot anyways.

I tried to update my e-mail address, but I got a message reading "address was banned by administrator, please try another". Are certain e-mail clients banned?

Certain email hosts have been almost exclusively used to create spam accounts with, so they aren't currently valid for use. It's primarily those that would be affected by this. It's a bit unfortunate when it happens, but please use a different one.

May I suggest Nat Dex Doubles OU (if this hasn't been suggested yet)? There's quite a few cut Pokemon such as Mega Metagross and Mega Charizard Y that would be nice additions to the metagame. The reinclusion of some Pokemon can also improve several archetypes like Trick Room and Rain. Meanwhile, the metagame would like Gen 8 additions like Regieleki, Rillaboom, Dragapult, Spectrier, Urshifu-R and buffed Pokemon like Meteor Beam Nihilego, Parting Shot Incineroar, possibly even Regigigas and Weezing.

This has been suggested and rejected in the past in both the natdex and doubles sqsa threads, I'm not sure if their decision is still as firm after a few months but to my knowledge there are no plans for a natdex doubles tier currently. The proper way to suggest formats can be found here though Format suggestions - Pokémon Showdown! (pokemonshowdown.com)

hello!!

i've been noticing a lot of orange islands-appropriate threads lately in smogoff and cong (former especially)

it's not like it's a huge deal for mods to move threads, but since it keeps happening there is probably a reason why

i was thinking at first that the name "orange islands" is just not immediately obvious as the "come here to talk about pokemon" catch-all, but now that i look at the forum index i'm thinking it's bc the subfora descriptions are now hidden behind hovering your mouse over the forum title

i don't think i'd do that across each of these titles upon being new to the forums, and i can see why it's easy for people to come to socialisation and default to "congregation of the masses"

anw i don't know if displaying the descs next to the forum names (again? isn't this how it used to be? idk) is doable in this format, or if anyone else has noticed the same/similar issues, but i bet we can figure it out if so

I don't think OI really want most of those more casual Pokémon threads (tier lists or what have you) that come out of Smogoff. I've found OI to be fairly structured, with plenty of active threads that encompass a lot of different topics already.

I don't exactly remember how xf1 was, but this is how xf2 actually looks like completely unmodified for comparison:

So we've already modified it quite a bit in terms of the space each forum category takes up. I believe the forum description is also listed once you click on the forum itself, so it's not like hovering is the only way you can view the forum description.

Seeing as we've already modified the base xf2 style quite a bit, It's probably doable from a technical standpoint. I do think we'll continue to have this sort of problem regardless, as it's often newer users who make these sort of mistakes and probably don't spend too much time looking in to what's allowed and what's not (see the OU and various analyses subforums). It's also not the biggest thing to have to deal with as a mod + it's not like it's a structural issue where even experienced users are confused.
