A lot of people that have something to prove and only a couple who have proved themself already. I don't think the best battle's will be with the most experienced players like ttg/fireburn but instead will have plenty of interesting battles between two new players that are both trying to make a name for themselves, which can definitely make for some hype matches. I can't wait to see which new player out of the group comes out with the best record. I'd put my money on sharow or zesty though.

before the draft, i know a lot of managers including myself thought the ubers pool is quite shallow since a lot of the tier mainstays lacked experience on the big stage and the ones who did, didnt sign up (or deleted their sign up :pirate::pirate:). but i think the pool turned out really cool and interesting since a lot of the mains are playing. i thought more managers would go for a solid player + builder combo but its cool to see ppl becoming more willing to give newcomers a shot

im particularly excited to see zesty, sharow, cynara, and hunterstorm play bc they all have interesting takes on the tier and are solid players overall. exi will be a cool watch too cus rey somehow makes his players power up all the time

also excited to work with leru and have him go 9-0 in the regular season :afrostar:

good luck to everyone. i hope you all have a fantastic tour and give us some great games

I think that the draft was very cool, as many said a lot of new people getting are getting a shot. If I were to pick the strongest cores it would have to be nagas, leviathans and serpents. I think all 3 teams have excellent team support and capable players left and right. obviously kf4n and ttg are front runners to do well, although I think Garay finishes this tour with one of the best records paired with M's support. I'm also interested to see how Fireburn and ckw do, I know that I thought that team looked pretty weak for ubers after the draft but thats just based off of both players relative inactivity. However I know that both have proven themselves in the past so I could very well be proven wrong. I'm very excited for the tour to start hope we are able to prove that ubers should be a main stay in official tours.

this should be an interesting tournament as i think everyone drafted has something to prove or solidify as players. the new folks will be a breath of fresh air to the ubers scene as long as they keep it level headed - remember that you are representing the tier and our community to all of smogon and this tour should be a great show.

gl to all involved

Sharow-san vs. KyogreF4n - Kyogre has the edge here, although Sharow is an unpredictable player and can cause the "upset".
Sharow-san vs. zesty - I believe this is a pretty even match between two solid players. Will come down to the wire.
KyogreF4n vs. The Trap God - Prolly the HL of the Phase. TTG is hard to predict against, but Kyogre is honestly one of the few people who can grab a W vs him. Will be an interesting watch.
The Trap God vs. HunterStorm - TTG should win this one, more experience and i am not convinced yet of Hunter. He is a solid player but not yet on TTG level.
HunterStorm vs. zesty - Solid matchup, can go either way. Neither of the players have proven anything more than the other so i couldnt give a favorite here.

Exiline vs. fireburn - Exiline is underrated imo, Fireburn does really well in tours, but i havent seen him playing a single USM game while Exiline has been grinding and can prolly emerge victorious.
Exiline vs. Cynara - Cynara's opportunity to get a good score in a big tour such as snake, and i believe she will go full tryhard. Has the edge in this matchup.
fireburn vs. Leru - Leru is top 3 players in this pool, i expect him to win this one.
Leru vs. Garay Oak - Garay Goat
Garay Oak vs. Cynara - Garay Goat

Sharow-san vs. KyogreF4n - I think that kyogref4n is outstanding and has probably been the consistent best ubers player in gen 7 but i have not really seen him be that active recently and i think sharow can exploit him a bit at the builder.
KyogreF4n vs. The Trap God - for sure the most hyped up game once again i think TTG will win at prep here
The Trap God vs. HunterStorm - I actually believe these players are very similar in terms of versatility but i think that TTGs plays are a bit more refined and he has more experience in this type of playing environment.

Exiline vs. fireburn - I have never seen fire burn play outside of the ultra beasts tour and i think that exiline has moments where he is very good.
Exiline vs. Cynara - notorious for good preps and probably wants to win this game more than any other game she's played in pokemon
fireburn vs. Leru - Leru is very good
Leru vs. Garay Oak - I think garay is the most underrated player in the tour and i think he has the second best record at the end of it ;0
Garay Oak vs. Cynara - this will probably come down to 50/50s or smth should be a really good game

Nadal vs fed

KyogreF4N vs. The Trap God : two weeks ago KF shaved his head like krillin, he can't lose.
The Trap God vs. HunterStorm
Hunterstorm vs Zesty

Exiline vs. Fireburn
Exiline vs. Cynara : remember upl Exiline was destroyed by the trap (god).
Fireburn vs. Leru
Leru vs. Garay Oak
Garay Oak vs. Cynara

Federer vs Djokovic.

Sun Division:

Sharow-san vs. KyogreF4N -I'll give the edge to kfan in this one since they know eachother really well and sharow often relies on unorthodox teambuilding to beat his opponents
Sharow-san vs. Zesty43 -This is the game I'm looking forward to seeing the most. Both of these guys are crazy teambuilding-wise, so it should be fun as hell
KyogreF4N vs. The Trap God -HL of phase 1, but I think TTG is better than kfan
The Trap God vs. HunterStorm
HunterStorm vs. Zesty43

Moon Division:

Exiline vs. Fireburn
Exiline vs. Cynara -HL of moon division probably, should be close but I think Sarah will take it
Fireburn vs. Leru

Nadal>Federer>all

Sun Division:

Sharow-san vs. KyogreF4N - i've seen very little of sharow, but from what i've seen+him helping royal win ssnl, i favor sharow even if this is his first big outing
Sharow-san vs. Zesty43 - while nothing separates these players to give an advantage over the other, i predict sharow simply cos i think he's on the better team and that should give him the drive needed to come out on top
KyogreF4N vs. The Trap God - i think ttg is just too solid in his plays and teams, really difficult to predict against him in this pool
The Trap God vs. HunterStorm - as much as i want hunter to win cos i love watching ag players bringing some tech and it working, betting against ttg still doesn't seem right considering he's used and played against many weird techs a lot himself and is expected to be composed and not get caught by surprise
HunterStorm vs. Zesty43 - if nerves don't get to zesty, and he doesn't get caught by some tech, i expect him to win this one but it'll be either very close or a complete wash

Moon Division:

Exiline vs. Fireburn - love predicting against exiline, but he also has weird tendencies to use abnormal teams and sometimes make unnecessary plays, so unless fireburn is really really rusty, i expect him to clinch it
Exiline vs. Cynara - won in upl(to a supposed misclick?), better player and builder and has been impressively composed for a long while now
Fireburn vs. Leru - difficult to pick cos both have been supposedly inactive for a while, but i think leru's got the edge in mindset, and he's definitely got the skills cos he won ssnl playoffs, a peak that i don't think fireburn has ever displayed
Leru vs. Garay oak - pure gut feeling on this one
Garay oak vs. Cynara - a more consistent player with similar peak, i expect cynara to come out on top in a close game

late but the drafts seem good, while one could say there are a couple notable people missing Gunner Rohan PurpleGatorade :pirate:, i don't think this pool is lacking in talent or skill but just exposure. lots of fresh blood and it'll be nice watching them grow up and make a name for themselves to replace the void that some people think was left by the "previous generation of goats"

Sun Division:

Sharow-san vs. KyogreF4N - french battle, despite KyogreF4N probably having better ingame skills, I would put my money sharow-san because Kyogref4n is really redundant in his teambuilder, and I think sharow with the support of pohjis will probably find a way to abuse kyogref4n's teambuilding trends. However Kyogre could easily take the victory if he gets and even match-up.

Sharow-san vs. Zesty43 - I don't really know zesty but if he deserves just the half of the hype he got from other ubers players he should win, still gotta be careful with sharow "le fromager" -san cheesing abilities.

KyogreF4N vs. The Trap God - prolly will be the HL of the round, I'm bolding TTG's name here because of the same issue I stated above in the sharow-kyogre match up. This game will also be even harder for kyogre than his other one because TTG prolly got better ingame and teambuilding skill than sharow.

The Trap God vs. HunterStorm - Hunterstorm usually uses some very whack teams and hasn't much to show with his ingame skills. Expecting TTG to end victorious by a large margin here.

HunterStorm vs. Zesty43 - As I precedently said, if zesty is living up to his hype, he should take the win here.

Moon Division:

Fireburn vs. Leru - longtime veteran fireburn is back to another edition of snake, going with a 5-4 record last year (and a decent spl 8 too iirc), fireburn proved he could easily take the win here but leru supported by goatman obii can also be considered a threat. not giving a winner here because this could really go either way or so I feel.

Leru vs. Garay oak - I would give a slight edge to leru both in teambuilding and ingame skills but garay has a lot to prove and is probably really determined to bring some wins home, should be a really interesting watch.

Garay oak vs. Cynara - betting on QC slave cynara here since she got a superior knowledge over the metagame than garay but she gotta be careful about her end games or she could easily throw the game away.

oh and Federer is obviously the goat.

Now that the Phase 1 matches are all over, I'll give my general thoughts on each of the performances. Every player who got drafted played well and the diversity and breadth of teams and talent truly represented our tier well.

Sun Division - As expected, The Trap God performed the best in this division. He is easily one of the best, if not the best, Ubers players at the moment. Against Hunter Storm, some smart plays and skillful maneuvers allowed him to overcome some dangerous threats like a +3 Rayquaza and +3 Ultra Necrozma. Against KyogreF4N, bringing out Magic Coat Groundceus T1 sealed the deal, and though this match was the most hyped in this division, it fell a bit short of my expectations but was an enjoyable show nonetheless. Zesty was the dark horse of this division and has proved that he has was it takes to compete and win against the best Ubers players. He's truly a gifted player with an offensive mindset and his games were really fun to watch, especially when he took on HunterStorm and proceeded to elegantly win. KyogreF4N played well, though he did luck out against Sharow-San. Sharow's performance was decent as well; unfortunately RNG can really be a nuisance at times. Lastly, HunterStorm did an admirable job in this tour, almost defeating The Trap God. I'm definitely looking forward to watching more of his games in the future. Definitely looking forward to a match between TTG and Zesty in the future - both players are incredibly talented and will put up undoubtedly one of the greatest performances ever.

Moon Division - As expected, Fireburn performed the best in this division. Much like The Trap God, being well versed and seasoned in highly competitive games has truly shaped near flawless plays. Fireburn's experience is going to take him far and I do hope to see an eventual match between him and TTG as well as versus Zesty. Garay Oak was a surprise, I didn't think he would go 2-0 and I'm genuinely impressed. Definitely the dark horse of this division, he did well and I'm really looking forward to watching more matches of his. Exiline performed well, clinching a decisive victory (6-0 sweep) against Cynara. Leru performed admirably, albeit very difficult matches to play, but still enjoyable to watch. Lastly, Cynara did well but will definitely have to work on her playing and team composition in future high level tournament games. She's an excellent player and will definitely improve in the upcoming round ahead. Looking forward to seeing her play more and win in the future.

With that being said, I thank each and every one of you for the highly enjoyable matches. Personally, I hope to see even more of Zesty as his team building abilities and playing are nothing short of remarkable! Congrats to The Trap God, Fireburn, and Garay Oak for going undefeated in Round 1 and best of luck on all of your future endeavors.

Edit: And just like that, I get to see Zesty duke it out with TTG and KyogreF4N! #Hyped

It was a great first phase and some of the matches were a joy to watch. Not surprised that Zesty and TTG had an amazing start - they're both top players and the results will show throughout Snake. Fireburn proved once again why sturdy team-building and experience often matters more than anything else. KF had a minor setback but I expect him to pick himself up and stage a tough competition. A bit disappointed to see Sharow benched for this phase, but still anxious to see what GTG brings and how the matches play out. Watching Garay Oak try out a modified variation of Spirituality with a different take on the maneuverability was interesting, too.

Personally, it was pretty low to be so close both games and not make it due to calculation errors and stage fright, but I feel like I have no one to blame for that but myself. I still am pretty excited about this phase, and hope to finally finish the job this time on. Good luck everyone, and go Gliders!

Sun Division:

GaryTheGengar vs. The Trap God - I am not sure how does TTG do it, but he always has the perfect team. That in combination with his amazing in game plays, makes it really hard to lose. I am going with TTG here.

GaryTheGengar vs. HunterStorm - Hunter has pretty average showings the first round, but he is a player with potential and i expect him to comeback in phase 2. Gonna give the edge to him here.

KyogreF4N vs. HunterStorm - KyogreF4N had a weird showing, but did get the 1-1 in Phase 1. Typical hooh balance but with a ditto and a smeargle vs TTG, i personally did not like his team picks. Playingwise he is good and if he brings a solid team he can get a W here.

KyogreF4N vs. Zesty43 - Zesty impressed us all, grabbing that 2-0 in Phase 1 and i believe he can get the win here. I did have mixed feelings as in how would he begin his first official tour, but his start was really solid and i expect to see him get at least one more win in this phase.

The Trap God vs. Zesty43 - Pretty nice match. Trying to see this from a teambuilsing perspective, Zesty might try to bring some heat squad with surprises in order to catch TTG off guard, but then again TTG can prepare for cheese or unexpected things and he most of the time scouts in game even for weird sets. If they both roll in with standard teams, TTG has the edge but it is for sure gonna be a close one.

Moon Division:

Exiline vs. Leru - Leru had a weak Phase 1 and i am sure he will tryhard to fix this. As a player he always had good results and i believe this wont change. Expecting a win from Leru here, despite Exiline playing actually good in Phase 1. Close match as well though.

Exiline vs. Garay oak - Garay Goat

Fireburn vs. Garay oak - Garay Goat

Fireburn vs. Cynara - 2-0 vs 0-2. People expected a lot from cynara and she went 0-2, while people expected not much from Fireburn and he went 2-0. This matchup is a toss up between two pretty strong players. A motivated Cynara seems more scary to me, while Fireburn has the comfort of 2-0, so i will go with Cynara win here.

Leru vs. Cynara - This is going to be a close and really interesting watch. As i said above about these two, both high level players who happened to start this tournament on the wrong foot. Not gonna predict, and just gonna enjoy this one!

In general i have to say that Phase 1 games were pretty interesting and i hope this Phase will be a nice watch as well!
