The Smogon Staff has recently decided that Smogon would indeed benefit from having its own server on Shoddy Battle as soon as possible. Our own server will give Smogon Staff members—and their dozens of combined years of experience in competitive pokémon—the ability to implement and augment the many rules and policies belonging to the ever-changing realm of competitive pokémon. The Smogon Shoddy server will be running on Smogon's upgraded and reliable connection, a lack of which has been an issue for other servers run on Shoddy Battle.

The members of this great community deserve a place to feel as though we have a true impact on competitive pokémon and how things are decided, and there is no better way for the community to have a say in this than to have a place to call our own. The community can now be absolutely certain its wishes and desires are heard by a group of pokémon-tenured members of the community who know, love and care about both the game and the community, and the long history of both.
 
Anyone can use the server. It will just be moderated by Smogon and the environment in the server will be closer to what the Smogon community is comfortable with.
 
Does this allow us to test questionable pokemon like Wobbuffet and Garchomp without the go-ahead from the Official Server? If so, awesome!

My main question if there's going to be things similar to Official's ladder with a leaderboard (as it'd be interesting to see a more Smogon-based Top 100), and usage statistics (which would be very useful in the event things like a ban on Garchomp were tested out)?

Is smogon planning on changing anything that is currently banned/accepted on Colins server?
 
This is great actually. I might actually ladder seriously just because I think it would be more fun to play smogon players. I actually predict the official server will have a lot less people on it when this opens.

Probably you don't have this decided yet but would Event Moves be restored on this server?

Haven't decided yet, but we are in the process of determining which of the current issues are the most important to give our focus right now.
 
yeahh baby!!! these are great news, smogon really needs its own server, i remember the smogon server in netbattle i always battled there because without being a member i knew that that was the best server with a lot more battlers and the best ones, congrats to smogon!!!
 
I hope I'm allowed to ask this...

Are there any plans to release competitor? Or has the staff decided it would be pointless with shoddy already up? I was away from smogon for a time so forgive me if this has already been answered.

Even though I haven't been on shoddy for months now, it'll be good to start again I'm sure!
 
Excellent. Will this Smogon Server have a Ladder of its own? And will there be a Leaderboard for our server or will it all pool into the 'Official' Leaderboard?

Also, a shout-out and a big Thanks for Colin for everything he's done so far (including making ShoddyBattle as well as all the testing and unbannings he's done behalf of Smogon).
