Project SS Monotype Community-Create-A-Team

Rain + vish

:ss/dracovish: :ss/pelipper:
Dracovish @ Choice Band
Ability: Strong Jaw
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Fishious Rend
- Outrage
- Psychic Fangs
- Crunch

Pelipper @ Choice Specs
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Tailwind
- Hurricane
- U-turn
- Defog

So basically water threat is generally pretty bulky so basically ive gone with a wallbreaking core of Choice band dracovish + specs pelipper, despite the fact that everything resists fishious it still basically ohkos everything in rain, like defensive pex takes 70-80 its insane. the only things that switch in are water absorb users which all get hit by one of dracovish's coverage moves if you predict correctly. And specs pelipper is a big threat to water teams as their only flying resists have unreliable recovery and are relatively easy to wear down.

SS Water Monothreat Core

Dual Immunities
Looking over the Pokemon that are potentially usable in SS Water Monothreat such as
Offensive: Specs Lapras, Nasty Plot Rotom-Wash, Dragon Dance LO Whip Gyarados, Shell Smash Barbacle, Specs Pelipper, etc
Defensive: Toxapex, Lanturn, Lapras, Slowbro, Slowking, Ludicolo, etc
I feel like this core is pretty good. Lanturn counters Nasty Plot Rotom-W, which can wallbreak and abuse Substitute + Nasty Plot pretty well. 52 Spa allows Volt switch to break full spa invested rotom-wash, its an option if you want to pivot into something else. Lanturn being resistant to Hurricanes and immune to Electric-type attacks makes it pretty useful in Monothreat. Lapras gives another immunity(Water), which is pretty good for battling against Dracovish or taking Scalds. I don't think youll be running rain on this team or shell armor, but absorb can be useful so you won't get 6-0d by Dracovish. Toxapex counters Gyardos and pairs well with this set potentially.
Lanturn @ Leftovers
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 248 HP / 52 SpA / 208 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Volt Switch
- Heal Bell
- Toxic

Lapras @ Choice Specs
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 244 HP / 252 SpA / 12 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Freeze-Dry
- Thunder
- Toxic
- Thunderbolt

Lapras @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Block
- Freeze-Dry
- Protect
- Perish Song

Slowking+Gyarados

Slowking @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psyshock
- Toxic / Grass Knot
- Slack Off
- Teleport

Gyarados @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Power Whip
- Dragon Dance
- Substitute
- Earthquake

Slowking and Gyarados do a great job of complimenting each other's roles for the team. Slowking is a great defensive pivot that can weather out most special hits from the likes of Ludicolo and Rotom-Wash, while being immune to trapping shenanigans thanks to Teleport. This allows it to bring in Gyarados to set up Dragon Dance and steamroll through with its combination of Power Whip+Earthquake being unresisted by the entire Water typing. Heavy Duty Boots are excellent on both of them, so as to remove the need for a hazard remover and to keep Gyarados healthy enough to set up Substitutes. Because of how well the core molds offense and defense, there are many possibilities for what kind of team composition the core can fit on, whether it be Rain or Balance. It'll be interesting seeing what mons can help make the most of this core.

smub's Slowking + Gyarados

I really like the idea of a specially defensive pivot bringing in a dangerous late-game cleaner safely, this likely fits on balance teams looking for a way to break through opposing ones and I would like to see a team built around this core.

Roxiee's Lanturn + Lapras
I also like this defensive core, since it is able to deal with opposing Water teams and Electric teams pretty easily, with the latter being problematic. With other potential teammates like Toxapex, this could be a nice bulky Water team.

Fylkir Pudin's Rain + Dracovish
I really like the fish and it's pretty cool seeing it on an offensive rain team. What stands out to me most is the Tailwind Pelipper, that thing sounds epic. Too bad you'll have to switch out into something like Slowbro and then maybe Teleport out into a rain abuser since it's Specs, but I will definitely also try this out.

Week 10 is over and we built around Roxiee's dual immunity monothreat water

:Lapras::Lanturn:
We started by making sets for the original core. We decided on a Resttalk Lapras set with max defense to help beat band Dracovish, and a Thunder Wave Pivot set for Lanturn.
:Lapras::Lanturn: + :Gyarados:
Most of our conversation was spent deciding on a way to beat Gyarados, so we added our own! We used a standard taunt + two attacks set to really destroy opposing walls like toxapex. Lum Berry was added to allow us a free setup on scald Toxapex.
:Lapras::Lanturn::Gyarados: + :Barbaracle:
Barbaracle is a Gyarados Check with access to Stealth Rock and great sweeping potential. Focus Sash allows us to check Power Whip Gyarados.
:Lapras::Lanturn::Gyarados::Barbaracle: + :toxapex:
Toxapex is almost a staple on monothreat water teams due to its insane bulk and access to Haze. Toxic Spikes allows us to pressure offensive teams while we make predictions with our immunity core. Shed Shell allows us to switch into Azumarill with no fear of Perish Trap
:Lapras::Lanturn::Gyarados::Barbaracle::toxapex: + :azumarill:
Azumarill is our Gyardos Counter. This set can counter almost every variation of the sea monster thanks to Mental Herb getting us past taunt to land toxic. Perishtrap azu can also get us free kills if we ever land a Whirlpool
Shoutouts to: Bondie , Roxiee Fylkir Pudin , Tico 21 , and Derpeddeath for helping build this great team!

Sorry for the late post I’ve been away and forgot to mention we wouldn’t be having a CCAT last week, however we’re back to the usual schedule this week (albeit a late start)!

As the winner of last week’s poll, we will be building an SM Monotype team this week

Thanks for reading! Post your set or core ideas below!

:bisharp: :Lucario:
Bisharp @ Life Orb
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Sucker Punch
- Knock Off
- Iron Head
- Swords Dance

Lucario
Ability: Steadfast
- Extreme Speed
This priority core works great on Steel-type teams. Bisharp's Dark-type moves KO the Psychic- and Ghost-type Pokemon that resist Lucario's Fighting-type STAB moves. In addition, Lucario can spam its Fighting-type moves without any fear of Fairy-type Pokemon thanks to its Steel-type teammates

:ss/zeraora:
Zeraora @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 40 Atk / 216 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Work Up
- Plasma Fists
- Close Combat
- Grass Knot

Heya, this is my first post of any kind like this so sorry if it isn't too great but this Zeraora set speaks for itself. In gen 7 mono, electric gets stone-walled in the vs ground match up. With this set, Zeraora can OHKO a fully physically defensive Hippowdon from full HP with a +1 grass knot. In addition, grass know boosted by work up can help deal with answers to electrics on water like Swampert or Gastrodon helping its teammate like Alolan Raichu or Tapu koko to sweep.
