Project SS PU Next Best Thing - Week 9 (Xatu Submissions)

Dual Screens Aromatisse

1612947126969.png

Aromatisse @ Light Clay
Ability: Aroma Veil
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Quiet Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Light Screen
- Reflect
- Misty Explosion
- Trick Room / Rain Dance / Sunny Day

With access to both screens and a move to remove itself from the field, Aromatisse has the ability to be a great screener for offensive and HO teams. Its ability prevents it from being Taunted so it is guaranteed to get them off. Misty Explosion is a powerful STAB move coming off a high SpA stat that helps you maintain momentum in the match, getting whatever it is you have in behind screens for free. For the 4th move, Aromatisse could use Trick Room, for which it will move first in as its so slow, or you could use it as a weather setter - both Rain & Sun are very viable play-style at the moment in PU.

Charm Aromatisse

Aromatisse @ Leftovers
Ability: Aroma Veil
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonblast
- Wish
- Charm
- Heal Bell

General idea
Here we have a variation of the standard Heal Bell set with Charm replacing Protect.
It may seem a minor addition, but seeing Wish the opponent is lead to think that you have Protect, a good move that has the problem to leave you predictable and (Wish + Protect in the following turn).
Here is where Charm comes into play because it cuts the opposite threat's Atk, thus allowing you to use Wish without Protect in front of physical threats. Also, considering the number of switch-ins Aromatisse has that forces it to switch-out, Charm can easily support your incoming team member.
Charm doesn't deal chip damage and doesn't work after the switch as WoW, but it has 100% accuracy and can be stacked (although crits are a thing).

EVs (spread) and item
It is pretty stardard.

Team(mates) support
A way to deal properly with Steels and Poisons is mandatory because we can't hit them effectively.
In return, Aromatisse offers Wish, Heal Bell and Charm support to soften the switch-ins.

Hello there. I've been really busy this week for Chinese New Year (kinda explains why I'm late too) and don't have a submission idea rip me.

Hello and we are back with more NBT action!
This vote week was kinda crazy (very close between Specs and Screens), and I was just waiting for more analysis to go into QC phase so it was easier for us to establish common sets without any controversy.

Night Shade Xatu

Xatu @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 8 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Roost
- Night Shade
- Wish
- U-turn

General idea
The use of Night Shade as a standalone attacking move leaves all the EVs free to be invested into Xatu's bulk.
This is a physical defensive-inclined support set with double recovery (Roost + Wish) alongside U-turn to keep the momentum.
U-turn is picked over Teleport in order to deal chip damage and, sometimes, it is also a fastish U-turn towards some slower threats.

HP + Def EVs are chosen to boost Xatu's defensive presence.
Rocky Helmet is just perfect to deal additional damage since you have access to double recovery. Just be wary of Knock Off.

Team(mates) support
This Xatu is only a supporter so it can't really KO things unless they are very weakened.
In return, this Xatu offers Wish support + U-turn support, Magic Bounce support and many ways to cripple the opposing threats.

Xatu @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Heat Wave
- Trick
- U-turn

Xatu's niche as a Choice Scarf user is because of its Speed tier and Magic Bounce. Because of this, it can outspeed and revenge kill normally faster threats such as Scarf Passimian, Arctovish under Hail, and Virizion without an issue. Most Rockers think twice before trying to set Rocks on Xatu, which means it won't have to take 25% chip damage everytime it tries to come in, and can cripple defensive foes with a Choice Scarf.

Xatu @ Choice Specs
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Heat Wave
- U-turn / Dazzling Gleam
- Trick

Specs Xatu has somewhat of a niche over other Psychic-types, being able to hit Steel-types for super effective damage with Heat Wave. It differentiates itself from Claydol in this place since it's much more offensive and faster, as well as preventing hazards rather than just removing them. Specs also allows Xatu to 2HKO most common Silvally-Steel sets and guarantee the 2HKO on SpDef Togedemaru.

Trick Room Setter Xatu

1614608554084.png

Xatu @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Trick Room
- Teleport
- Roost
- Dazzling Gleam

With access to Trick Room and Teleport, Xatu makes an ideal TR setter to get an offensive mon in for free with 3 or 4 TR turns to go. Min speed makes Xatu faster in TR, Roost gives longevity, Dazz Gleam is there as an attack so Xatu isn't totally set-up bait, and Boots allow it to enter the field without taking hazard damage to attempt to set TR.

this week was a bit of a challenge but i finally found something i didnt hate. this xatu set serves as a pivot for teams. wish + teleport heals teammates safely, roost is for your own longevity, and future sight adds momentum to your role as a pivot. not much else to say about this funky bird here.

Flame orb psycho shift/feather dance

Xatu @ Flame Orb
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Def / 16 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psycho Shift
- Feather Dance
- Roost

Xatu is an annoying Pokémon and is often treaded in H.O. or stall and besides when it abuses magic. It's most standout non-pivot set is probably stored power, not my taste. Set is to wear down common checks that it might share with an offensive counter part and be a poke in their psychical checks for early game. Figured I should at least try something, "different". I really don't like this mon

0 Atk burned Gigalith Rock Blast (5 hits) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Xatu on a critical hit: 245-290 (73.3 - 86.8%) -- approx. 2HKO after sandstorm damage
-2 0 Atk Gigalith Rock Blast (5 hits) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Xatu: 160-210 (47.9 - 62.8%) -- approx. 2HKO after sandstorm damage

-2 252 Atk Choice Band Absol Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Xatu: 216-254 (64.6 - 76%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
