Congratulations to SpookMÆN for winning with Sheer Force Druddigon, your submission will be added to the OP shortly!!

Week 17: Tyranitar

Tyranitar @ Chople Berry
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 176 SpD / 80 Spe
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Stone Edge
- Crunch
- Fire Blast
Having recently picked up steam after an unremarkable start, specially defensive Tyranitar is a very solid Stealth Rock setter in the tier thanks to its great offensive and defensive presence in addition to its typing and bulk that allows it to check the likes of Polteageist, Toxtricity, and Noivern with ease. Luring Tyranitar can open up the aforementioned Pokemon to clean up late game; how will you do it?

Submissions are due by Friday, August 28th.

EVs: 52 Atk / 252 SpA / 204 Spe

- Boomburst
- Overdrive
- Drain Punch
- Shift Gear
Mixed Toxtricity is a solid Tyranitar lure with Drain Punch since Tyranitar is often the best resist to Boomburst.

Reserving physical slowbro galar
(Also help I can't find a website that's updated with Slowbro-Galar's sprite/3d model pdf, what site should I use?)

20200825_095043.jpg
Slowbro-Galar @ Colbur Berry
Ability: Quick Draw
EVs: 252 HP / 76 Def / 200 SpD
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Poison Jab
- Curse
- Slack Off

Most players assume Slowbro's using a special set, and even if it's running grass knot/hydro pump Ttar can shrug it off and 2hko even the bulkiest sets while outspeeding offensive ones. This is where Curse Slowbro comes in, as it can consistently eat a hit to set up in front of its face with colbur intact and access to slack off.

Calcs below clearly show that Crunch won't KO after a single curse boost while Slowbro can bring it back to top condition with slack off, as even assuming max rolls + sandstorm chip you're left with at worst 31.4% and proceed to threaten it with more curse boosts after recovering to at least 81%. Plus you've already won if Ttar switches in as it sets up. Quick draw can somewhat fix its low speed and an emergency priority curse boost/ slack off can come in clutch.

0 Atk Tyranitar Crunch vs. 252 HP / 76+ Def Colbur Berry Slowbro-Galar: 97-115 (24.6 - 29.1%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after sandstorm damage

After eating a crunch and setting up one curse:
0 Atk Tyranitar Crunch vs. +1 252 HP / 76+ Def Slowbro-Galar: 132-156 (33.5 - 39.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after sandstorm damage

EQ calcs after +4 attack (which is doable with + 4 defense + slack off)
+4 0 Atk Slowbro-Galar Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar: 396-468 (98 - 115.8%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO

Use Slowbro pls they're so many sets it can pull off pretty well.

Rain Dance Mantine

:mantine:
Mantine @ Life Orb/Heavy Duty Boots
Modest Nature
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 6 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
- Hydro Pump/ Surf
- Hurricane
- Rain Dance
- Roost / Ice Beam

There aren't a lot of electric attacks around in UU atm, so the biggest way to take out Mantine is with Rock attacks, especially if those cheeky rock types think they're getting a free switch in vs a Defog.

Rain Dance on the switch in and then;

252+ SpA Life Orb Mantine Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 176 SpD Tyranitar in Rain: 468-554 (137.2 - 162.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO

You can drop the Life Orb or swap Hydro Pump for Surf and still get the OHKO, but I would keep it.

Alternatively if you're feeling more direct

252+ SpA Life Orb Mantine Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 176+ SpD Tyranitar in Sand: 190-226 (47 - 55.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

You can go straight for the kill instead. You outspeed even outside rain.

:xy/noivern:

Noivern @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Flamethrower
- Toxic
- Roost

Toxic Noivern is a really cool set that I first a couple days ago when I ran into pif using this, it was great vs me so I tried it for myself and it's pretty nice, although it is not as helpful as uturn in a lot of matchups, particularly against offense (especially mimikyu). However, that doesn't mean that this set is bad at all; it can be super annoying.

Obviously you nail Tyranitar with a toxic, which makes it much more difficult for it to switch in on vern as well as other pokemon which teams use tyranitar to check, such as heliolisk or toxtricity. This doesn't seem huge but it makes a massive difference when playing the fatter teams that spdef Tyranitar is typically found on-with wish support from jirachi, uturn and dracos are not enough to break effectively, but if you nail ttar with a toxic, it makes other balance breakers like boots lisk, specs tox, or sub kyu much harder to check with toxic chip.

This set is also super cool because it allows you to 1v1 slack slowking (and get fs super low), nail things like toad (which is good for when it has wish jirachi support) or sylv, as well as random stuff like cm necro or horse/incin with wish support.

Necrozma @ Expert Belt
Ability: Prism Armor
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Brick Break
- Photon Geyser
- Knock Off
- Stealth Rock
ok, so ttar is a dark type, right? darks are immune to psychic types. following this, ttar would be immune to necro stab, photon geyser. with brick break, you can kill it, and you can set up your own roccs

Noivern @ Choice Specs
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Hurricane
- Focus Blast
- U-turn

252 SpA Choice Specs Noivern Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 176+ SpD Tyranitar in Sand: 133-157 (32.9 - 38.8%) -- 99.8% chance to 3HKO

252 SpA Choice Specs Noivern Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 176+ SpD Chople Berry Tyranitar in Sand: 164-194 (40.5 - 48%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

252 SpA Choice Specs Noivern Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 176+ SpD Tyranitar in Sand: 328-388 (81.1 - 96%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Noivern can't really touch ttar because the offensive set only do 22.2 - 26.2% with dm, and flam and hurricane can't touch ttar.
The rare focus blast allows noivern to pass ttar.

So what are you waiting for? Go to the video description, click on the special links and you'll get that amazing lure and you will never miss your focus blast for the rest of your life as part of the new player program to start your journey! Good luck and I'll see you there!

As we all know, specially defensive Tyranitar is a very solid check to most hatterene, as it can shrug off its hits and threaten it with Stone Edge. As I was looking through the builder, I noticed something very strange. Hatterene has the same attack as Cobailion. Thus, I decided to begin developing a lure that would absolutely surprise any specially defensive Ttar coming in. Thus, meet choice band hatterene.

:ss/hatterene:

Hatterene @ Choice Band
Adamant Nature
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def /
- Nuzzle
- Play Rough
- Power Whip
- Aromatherapy/Shadow Claw

TTar thinks he can come in and take a draining kiss from this bad girl only for it to severely dent this mon with a very powerful play rough. It;s other moves are Nuzzle, which is good at crippling sweepers like lycanroc-dusk and mimikyu, power whip for waters like washtom, slowking, and starmie. Lastly, its final slot can interchange: Aromatherapy to heal the party's status, or shadow claw if you want a 4th attack to hit chandelure.

252+ Atk Choice Band Hatterene Play Rough vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar: 348-410 (86.1 - 101.4%) -- 12.5% chance to OHKO
0 Atk Tyranitar Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Hatterene: 144-171 (45.2 - 53.7%) -- 91% chance to 2HKO after sandstorm damage

May not be the most reliable mon, but it is sure a funny troll for you to unexpected take out one of your opponent's pokemon with a physical hatterene.

Thank you to all who submitted this week!!

Submissions

Drain Punch Toxtricity by avarice (giving this a pass for now since it's pretty new but be aware of semi-standard stuff in future o-o)
Close Combat Incineroar by Fusion Flare (same as above)
Physical Galarian Slowbro by SpookMÆN
Toxic Noivern by TaxiCab
Brick Break Necrozma by kakaks
Choice Specs Focus Blast Noivern by KSt3ve

Rain Dance Mantine by PlusC - Tyranitar does not switch into Mantine, so you're not really luring it at all.
Choice Band Hatterene by @Monky25 - Same as above.

Vote for your favourite as usual! Voting ends on Tuesday, September 1st~

Respectfully disagree that Mantine doesn't lure Ttar. Ttar takes was than 30% from standard Mantine at most and can OHKO with SE.

The only electric types in the tier are Rotom and Toxtricity (RD Mantine lures and kills every Rotom form apart from Wash and all Toxtricity sets), so Ttar could well be your best answer to it.

Of the given sets I'll vote for DP Tox.

This isn't really true, even if you lack an Electric type to deal with Mantine (and Rotom-Wash/Mow are already on a lot of teams anyway), a lot of teams will have something like a Slowking that is the much safer pivot into Mantine -> Teleport out into your offensive check like Tyranitar. Switching into Tyranitar directly should never usually be the play due to the risk of Scald burns. There are also plenty of other safe switch ins available to teams like Kyurem, Obstagoon, Starmie that aren't Electric-types either, and greatly threaten Mantine.

Hopefully this explains further to you why this doesn't count as a lure.

Congrats avarice, Drain Punch Toxtricity is this week's winner! Only seems fitting that the both the lure and the lured rose to OU this month...

Week 18: Slowbro
:ss/slowbro:

Slowbro @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Psyshock
- Slack Off
- Teleport
Slowbro is a new addition to the tier that acts as a capable check to the likes of Terrakion, Mienshao, and Keldeo, comfortably stomaching hits from all of them. It's debatably better than Slowking thanks to its increased physical bulk making it a better check to the aforementioned Pokemon, but it also allows Slowbro to take hits from stuff like Obstagoon and Krookodile in a pinch. Its typing leaves it with plenty of weaknesses, though... so how will you lure it?

Submissions are due by Sunday, September 6th.

Reserving nightslash barbaracle
:ss/barbaracle:
Barbaracle @ Life Orb
Ability: Tough Claws
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Shell Smash
- Stone Edge / Cross Chop
- Liquidation
- Night Slash

Well, whenever Barbaracle sets up the best option to deal with it would involve switching in Slowbro, a physically bulky water. In this case, Barb can lure it with night slash, which is not only SE but also boosted by tough claws, so it does do huge loads, more than regenarator can heal off, comfortably 2hkoing it. You can even stay in front of it, just be weary of scald burns.

+2 252 Atk Life Orb Tough Claws Barbaracle Night Slash vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Slowbro: 299-354 (75.8 - 89.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
0 SpA Slowbro Scald vs. -2 0 HP / 4 SpD Barbaracle: 195-231 (68.4 - 81%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Keldeo @ Leftovers / Heavy Duty Boots
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Toxic
- Scald
- Secret Sword
- Flip Turn

Keldeo is normally walled by Slowbro and Toxic is able to wear down Slowbro even with boots and regen. Keldeo is able to flip turn out on it later too. Just does a good job at crippling Slowbro for other teammates.

+2 252 Atk Life Orb Cobalion Megahorn vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Slowbro: 356-421 (90.3 - 106.8%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO
