Project SS UU Victim Of The Week v2- Week 53: Darmanitan (Submissions)

Jirachi scarf CHECK

:ss/Jirachi:
Jirachi @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- U-turn
- Iron Head
- Trick
- Fire Punch

252+ Atk Jirachi U-turn vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Alakazam: 262-310 (104.3 - 123.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

So you come in and kill it or pivot out. Seems good. Can switch in once for free even if they use Shadow Ball, and several times if they don't. But if you pivot in safely then it's just a free KO or pivot if they switch, win-win.

:grimmsnarl:

shauna (Grimmsnarl) (M) @ Babiri Berry
Ability: Pickpocket
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Atk / 16 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Fire Punch
- Darkest Lariat
- Sucker Punch
- Play Rough

252+ Atk Grimmsnarl Sucker Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Alakazam: 444-524 (176.8 - 208.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Grimmsnarl Play Rough vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Alakazam: 286-337 (113.9 - 134.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Life Orb Alakazam Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Grimmsnarl: 221-261 (56 - 66.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

while the primary purpose of this set is as a scizor lure, it also is one of the best zam checks in the tier! surprise sucker punches OHKO zam, and grimmsnarl can take any hit from zam with ease. If they don't focus blast or nasty plot on the switch, you can just click lariat or play rough -- both will easily KO zam if it stays in or chunk anything that comes in afterwards.

while this set is specifically NP, it's worth noting that this checks the knock off variants just as well if not better. not only does grimm absorb the knock off with a 4x resist, it steals Zam's life orb, neutering its offensive power and gaining some of its own.

Scizor @ Metal Coat
Ability: Technician
EVs: 120 HP / 252 Atk / 136 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- U-turn
- Bullet Punch
- Roost

I'm nominating Scizor as a check. Its typing gives it a useful resistance to Psychic and neutrality to Focus Blast, letting it come in on a Psychic from Alakazam and allowing it to stomach an unboosted Focus Blast if needed. Bullet Punch has a very good chance of OHKOing Alakazam, and Scizor can Roost off the damage if Alakazam switches out or misses. Not much else to say really.

You must vote for 2 checks and 2 counters this week. You CANNOT vote for yourself. I repeat, vote for 2 CHECKS and 2 COUNTERS this week! Voting ends Thursday, April 1 at 11:59 PM GMT-8. My votes are...
Checks: Zeraora, Aegislash
Counters: Tangrowth, Celesteela

Voting time has concluded! Luckily we were able to finish up the week as soon as Alakazam made its departure to UUBL. Makes sense though, having very few natural offensive checks and all of its counters being shaky made it an incredibly tough mon to deal with. Now, lets announce the winners. For the checks we have avarice taking first while UrAverageHuman taking a close second. For counters, Monky25 narrowly took first place over TotomonGang's submission. Great job all of you! Your submissions will be added to the Hall of Fame. Now, lets take a look at this week's victim!
:ss/Kommo-o:
Kommo-o @ Throat Spray
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Clangorous Soul
- Clanging Scales
- Flamethrower
- Boomburst

This week we have ZE CLANGER. Even though it may sound appealing to do a Pokemon that just dropped like buzzwole or moltres, I want to give them for time to find their best set before using them, so I'm instead doing one of the most threatening Pokemon in the tier. Anyway, kommo-o is a fantastic offensive beast, being able to fill a large number of team roles and sets. This week we will look at clangorous soul, the most threatening set up set. With a boost to all its stats coupled with overcoat to easily set up on the common sus mushroom, I cannot remember how many games were won because of this. Clanger has amazing sweeping potential with its high power attack moves and wide coverage. Many players shiver when they see this behemoth, so its time we locate all the checks and counters to this threat. Submissions are due Tuesday April 6 at 11:59 PM GMT-8.

Sylveon best COUNTER
:ss/sylveon:
Sylveon @ Leftovers
Ability: Pixilate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hyper Voice
- Protect
- Wish
- Heal Bell
The only thing Clanger can do is cry, reliable recovery, a move that instantly destroys it and a non vulnerability to status thanks to heal bell make it impossible for the throat spray set to do anything against sylveon, even if you mess up and dont inmediately send sylveon on their clangorous soul sylveon is still an effective counter when it is at +2.

CALCS
+2 252 SpA Kommo-o Boomburst vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Sylveon: 153-180 (38.8 - 45.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
0 SpA Pixilate Sylveon Hyper Voice vs. +1 0 HP / 4 SpD Kommo-o: 324-384 (111.3 - 131.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Reserving Hatterene!

:ss/hatterene:

Hatterene (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Calm Mind
- Psyshock
- Draining Kiss
- Mystical Fire

Max SpDef Hatt takes like 66% max from +2 Boomburst, and recovers the majority of it back with Draining Kiss.

+2 252 SpA Kommo-o Boomburst vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Hatterene: 179-211 (56.2 - 66.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
4 SpA Hatterene Draining Kiss vs. +1 0 HP / 4 SpD Kommo-o: 184-220 (63.2 - 75.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Primarina @ Choice Specs
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Moonblast
- Psychic
- Scald

Primarina comfortably lives a +2 Boomburst from Kommo-o and OHKOes it back with Moonblast.

+2 252 SpA Kommo-o Boomburst vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Primarina: 224-264 (74.4 - 87.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Kommo-o @ Leftovers
Ability: Soundproof
EVs: 168 HP / 88 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Flamethrower
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic

Clanger wall clanger with Soundproof. Then you click Draco Meteor twice and win. Counter

reserving mimikyu

Mimikyu @ Life Orb
Jolly Nature
Ability: Disguise
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
- Swords Dance
- Shadow Claw
- Play Rough
- Shadow Sneak

Nominating Mimikyu as a counter. It is inmune to both Clanging Scales and Boomburst, and with Disguise it takes only 12% from Flamethrower, and even if your Disguise isn't up, you can still eat a Flamethrower.

+2 252 SpA Kommo-o Flamethrower vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Mimikyu: 157-185 (62.5 - 73.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 Atk Life Orb Mimikyu Play Rough vs. +1 0 HP / 0 Def Kommo-o: 333-395 (114.4 - 135.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

quagsire-2.gif

Quagsire @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Scald
- Earthquake
- Haze
- Recover

Specially Defensive Quagsire is a counter to Clangorous Soul Kommo-o. Due to Unaware, Quagsire can ignore Kommo-o's Special Attack boosts, and not be 2HKO'd by any off Kommo-o's moves. Haze removes the omniboost from Clangorous Soul and Recover off the damage easily.

252 SpA Kommo-o Clanging Scales vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Quagsire: 142-168 (36 - 42.6%) -- 94.6% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Kommo-o Boomburst vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Quagsire: 120-142 (30.4 - 36%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Leftovers recovery

Jirachi @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Serene Grace
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 48 Atk / 208 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Iron Head
- U-turn
- Moonblast
- Healing Wish

208 SpA Jirachi Moonblast vs. +1 0 HP / 4 SpD Kommo-o: 216-256 (74.2 - 87.9%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO

This monster of a Jirachi is not scared of no knock off Smokodomodo, whether you are at +1 or +0 Jiirachi gives no fucks. It will hard in on your Clanging Soul only for you to think you have a way out, to think "maybe he won't flinch me 8 times in a row this time" and then BAM! You get blasted to the moon, Team Rocket is blasting off again. Counter? Check? No, this is your new master, you either bow down to the Rachi or get rocked by the Rachi.

Submitting Chansey as a COUNTER

:ss/Chansey:
Chansey (F) @ Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
- Soft-Boiled
- Seismic Toss
- Toxic
- Teleport

Standard Chansey walls this set well - can switch in and take like 28% damage, then can just toxic stall it out or force it to switch and lose its boosts. Crazy that Chansey walls this Fighting Type menace amirite?

+2 252 SpA Kommo-o Clanging Scales vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Eviolite Chansey: 192-226 (27.2 - 32.1%) -- guaranteed 4HKO

ezpz lemon squeezy.

:ss/moltres-galar:
Moltres-Galar @ Blunder Policy
Modest Nature
Ability: Berserk
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
- Nasty Plot
- Fiery Wrath
- Hurricane
- Agility

Here we go, Blunder Policy sweeper G-Moltres, which I am nominating as a counter. With special bulk almost enough to rival Umbreon, G-Moltres is incredibly tanky on the special side even uninvested. This allows it to switch in while Kommo-o Clangs, eat a hit and KO back with Hurricane. Otherwise, Blunder Policy activates and you get to outspeed and try again. However, if the Kommo-o Clangs again, your chances of landing a single hit and KOing with Hurricane drops from 91% to 70%. Blunder Policy instead of Boots on this set allows G-Moltres to save precious turns needed to set-up Agility once in a while, especially when using Hurricane to catch a Pokemon switching in. And anyways, the hyperoffense teams that G-Moltres is often used on have some effective tools to prevent Stealth Rocks from being set up.

For One (1) Clang:
+2 252 SpA Kommo-o Clanging Scales vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Moltres-Galar: 246-291 (76.6 - 90.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+2 252 SpA Kommo-o Boomburst vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Moltres-Galar: 209-247 (65.1 - 76.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Moltres-Galar Hurricane vs. +1 0 HP / 4 SpD Kommo-o: 210-248 (72.1 - 85.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
For Two (2) Clangs:
252+ SpA Moltres-Galar Hurricane vs. +2 0 HP / 4 SpD Kommo-o: 158-188 (54.2 - 64.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
