Yep, I also vetoed Searing Crater / Backwater Gulch / Typhon Peaks. I don't really have a problem with the remaining maps in the pool, though I would probably veto Metalopolis / Tal'Darim / Abyssal Caverns if I had to pick right now.
 
very pleasantly surprised with the map changes. can't believe they took close spawns out of the ladder after it present in blizzcon though. what a reversal.

I think my old vetoes were typhon peaks, abyssal caverns, and searing crater. new vetoes are abyssal caverns (not a fan of the 3rd positioning/close spawns), antiga shipyard (pvz = 46%, overall pvz = 60%... enough said, thank you sc2gears), nezarim crypt (worst map left).
 
Public test region is up. Basically just reinstalls the game with 1.4.2

I just played the most awesome game ever. Last stand alpha. BEST GAME EVER. Holy crap that is intense. You start off with a colonist on an abandoned planet. Upgrade him into an engineer and begin to make a wall near some minerals with furniture. Set up an armory and some turrets. Then mine the piles of scrap for mins. Later on you can get more and more colonists that can upgrade to engineers or attacking units when you get enough kills. It's the most awesome game ever.

I'm pretty mad about them removing Carriers in HOTS, one of my better PvZ builds is essentially a carrier all-in. I know that sounds crappy but it works well enough for Diamond so suck it! In general I feel like Protoss got the short end of the stick, though in terms of new stuff. We only got a net gain of one new unit, and (ignoring the fact that the Replicant will break PvT if it allows you to build an Orbital Command) basically all we got is a specialized counter to lategame mutas and a specialized counter to the 1-1-1 build (replicated siege tanks I'm pretty sure will stop it). Maybe I'm selling the Oracle short but I don't see it doing much, other than maybe phasing out a Hyrda Den while you're air harassing. Zerg and Terran got some pretty hefty improvements in contrast, such as amazing spellcasters, area of effect turrets, new siege weapons, and drastic improvements to previously lackluster units.

speaking of removals I also don't really like the carrier/mothership removals. carrier almost purely because of tradition/lore, it would be like removing the marine. mothership since its utility has only recently been explored, especially late-game pvz in dealing with mass brood lords. if the reason it was removed is due to hero units... well thor?

It didn't help that every time someone found a neat use of the mothership, it got nerfed.
 
ugh playing zerg against defensive 1 base terran is a nightmare. by the time i get 9pool up they've already completed their wall and have two or so marines out making zergling rush useless; by the time i've got mutas out they already have missile turrets, all this while pumping out siege tanks or thors. it's fucking ridiculous; i've tried every strategy in the book -- banelings are ripped apart in seconds by siege tanks, zerg air is useless as soon as terran gets the first thor out, burrowed infestors are made obsolete because of the huge amount of missile turrets all over the fucking map. it's absolutely frustrating since the terran army basically counters EVERYTHING in the zerg arsenal and thanks to medivacs even a strategy as crude as mass marines is deadly to zerg. i'm at my wit's end about what to do except OVERWHELM THEM WITH NUMBERS which i'm not having any success with lately :/

You just don't let them expand and YOU expand all over the map. They are gonna run out of resources much much sooner than you ever will. You'll be stocked on resources and he'll be stuck on a base. You can easily just overpower him through attrition.

When he moves out of his base to kill you with tanks/marines, surround him with lings and roll in with banelings before he has time siege. A simple pincer maneuver will catch him off guard and seriously make him question moving out of his base again. Meanwhile you can macro and start massing mutas. He can make missle turrets all he likes, but against 20+ mutas there's not much he can do. It's not like he can keep thors all around his base either, and by the time they get back there you'll be long gone.

I don't know what level you are, but when I first got into gold I was having serious trouble zvt, and the above is what I started doing. Haven't lost a zvt in a while. Barring a multi rax all in this morning.

Only saw the first game of naniwa v leenock. Gonna be a long wait till tuesday.
How'd the series go? When I stopped watching game two it looked like naniwa was ready to crush 'im. Collosus out, and food advantage iirc.
 
leenock absolutely destroyed naniwa, even though his sentry ffs were perfect. i dont remember exactly what happened in game 2 (i think he got corruptors though), but in every game a roach rush would cripple naniwa so badly that there was no coming back. he even canceled his scouted hatchery and went all in, naniwa had only 1 cannon that game.

it was a sight to behold. also leenock's games vs DRG were insane, he has the best drone and zergling micro i have ever seen..

Christ i know. There were like two engagements in the middle of the map where he just didn't lose a single ling, and he had some madd spreading skills.

How common is the cancel scouted hatch? He did that first game, is it a common tactic/transition into roach allins?

While I have been taking a break from Starcraft the last couple of weeks, I plan on starting back up again after I am done with Midterms. I will definitely be in the channel more again starting later next week.
 
I still play, though I haven't been playing much 1v1 lately. I mainly do FFA, mostly because it gives me the opportunity to do some crazy or, dare I say, troll builds without too much pressure.
