State Pride! (or lack thereof)

So I've been thinking about how I'm most likely going to move far away from my home state, (uni) and I was wondering what kind of things I love about my home state. So, like Loetke, I'm from Texas, and the Texan things I'm going to miss most up in the northeast/northwest are definitely the good, authentic tex-mex and the hint of southern accent (at least where I live).

What I will not miss, however, is the heat. Temperatures of over 100 degrees get a bit unbearable in the summer, and I really like snow. The coined term "Texas snow" consists of room temperature water, and I look forward to the cold atmosphere of the north.

So, this thread is where you explain what you (dis)like in your state/province/whatever.

I really like Arizona, but I dont like the heat.

The biggest reason people in other states like us is because of the Grand Canyon, just a big-ass hole in the ground.

I live in Florida, I really dont like much about it. Humidity, Heat, and Hurricanes (the three H's) basically make it a not so great place to live.

So, like Loetke, I'm from Texas.

who? lol

anyway, i like kentucky because there is stuff to do here, but its not overcrowded like new york and other places. also, there is a lot of beautiful countryside :)

i dont know who Loekte is. were we supposed to?

anyway, im from pennsylvania, and specifically, philadelphia. philly is a great city. lots of history. lots of bars. lots of women.

Im in New Jersey right now, there is nothing really great about it besides that it is near nyc, and it snows here. Ill probably end up moving back to California.

You haven't noticed the various locations that state "Loetke is from texas" yet?

Anyway, I'm from... Sothern Georgia... You'd expect someone from this region of the country to be a full blown super redneck that fires of a shotgun every time they take a sip of there bud lite, but oddly enough I hate my reigons statehood.

I've got to say though, my area lives up to its reputation. Everyone here has had multiple Four wheller accidents and sounds like like a country music star.

[edit] This is off topic, but bear with me. I would like to explain what the hole "Loetke is from Texas" thing is.

In the hellish arena of spam that is the wifi forum, there is a poster named Loetke. Another user, Majesty, wanted to play a prank on him so he forworded multiple PMs to people asking them to put "Loetke is from texas" in there Location. It's just caught on so everyone does it.

I'm from Maryland. No I'm not going to quote wedding crashers because everyone from Maryland does it. (though what they say is true)

Ocean City isn't too shabby. Weather here can be unpredictable. If you decide to drive up to D.C the cherry blossoms are a sight to see.

I live in a really nice community in the subuerbs of NJ, i like it b/c it is the central of like the tri state area, near NYC and pennsilvana, so yea i like it but i want to move to San Diego California.(my dream place)

Michigan really is going through some hard times right now. It's remarkable that my dad has the great manufacturing job that he does right now since our state has:

The highest unemployment rate
Problems adjusting to 21st century industries

Really, I think living in mid to Southern Indiana or Illinois would be ideal. More economic opportunity, less snow, and not stuck away in the Great Lakes away from the rest of the U.S.

I guess we'll never have to worry about the draught problems that they're having down South but things could definitely be better here otherwise.

I like my state. However, I don't like the weather. The weather this weekend is supposed to have a low of -15 degrees. And the summers are so humid with so many lakes, that it feels a lot hotter than it actually is.

I do like the fact that we aren't very chatty, and we've got a pretty good education and health care system, and the Mall of America.

I live in Maryland, and overall, I like it here. I live in the suburbs, and I prefer living here rather than living in a city. There's also a huge mall near where I live, so there's usually something to do. I've never been to Ocean City, though. :(

Lived in Pennsylvania (hour north by northwest of Philadelphia) for the first 18 years of my life. Now I live in New York (about 1.5 hours due north of NYC) and try my best to never go back to Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania's not a bad place to live, but you know how family can be...

Where I live in New York is basically rural town, lots of trees...it's a really great place to live if you dislike the city (which I do) or are a farmboy (which I am). And a great place to go to school, but sometimes going to school you miss having all the other academic stuff around that being in a city gives you.

I'm from Texas. It's not texas I have a problem with, but rather the U.S. in general. I find Greece and Italy to be much nicer.

I live in Maryland and it is crap. I lived in NC most of my life (when I was born in 1986-2005) NC is an awesome state and I plan on moving back there at some point in my life.

I live in Indiana, and nothing happens here besides Nascar and stuff.

We're morbidly obese, have a ridiculously high forclosure rate, and no notable attractions to speak of.

Oh, and Vonnegut died last year.

I live in New Jersey. The title of "most dense state" doesn't only apply to population, sadly =[ Basically everybody is out for their own gain and nobody else matters... everybody's rude and life goes by at a frantic pace. Climate isn't that bad at least.

Come here to Missouri where you can get extreme hot and cold, struggling sports teams, tornadoes, and meth! ><

...

Yeah, my computer is my best form of entertainment over here.

How could you enjoy getting away from Texas's weather! We have had like four days of winter so far, and that is glorious :)

I don't know, I've just never liked the summers. The weather right now is glorious to me though- not the fact that we have only had it for maybe a week. I understand your opinion, but it's just not for me I guess.

I guess the real reason to move out is just for something new. I've been to a lot of the state, and there isn't much climate diversity other than different degrees of hot.

PA is pretty great. Philly is my favorite city in the world, and it's pretty good seasonally. Doesn't get nearly cold enough these days though, like it used to.

I can vouch for the weather. I lived in Missouri for 9 months -_-

And my home state (where I'm at now) is Tennessee... All we have is Pigeon Forge, and everything is EXPENSIVE there. You either have to be a tourist or a millionaire to do anything there

what a dumb thread >:( (no its cool reading about my fave amer'kins and their cute little "states")

we tend to have "city pride" alot more than "province pride" up here, quebec on a whole is really quite big and if you've only lived in montreal you usually don't have "quebec pride" as much as "montreal pride"

its a great city of course, almost as multicultural as toronto (hometown) and packed with students.

of course the main downside is that i have to go to school in -27C weather (that's -17 F) this morning.

Live in New York, specifically long island and I love it.

Theres never a lack of something to do which is good because otherwise I would be morbidly obese staring at my computer screen all day :O
