Super Smash Brothers Brawl Discussion #3

I have 6 characters going right now and I really need to cut down on it

1. Zelda - My last main in melee. I don't know why but I was just really good with her. She is now amazing after all her buffs.

2. Ike - He is a ton of fun to use and to punish others with.

3. Fox - One of my melee mains at the end which were zelda, samus(she sucks so badly in brawl), and fox. Fox is a little more controllable in brawl and still fast and powerful. Still has that great up smash finisher.

4. Metaknight - He is just awesome. He is a lot of fun to use and is pretty good. you have to chase to get most kills at good percentages but his nair is pretty good for that. It sucks how light he is.

5. Toon link - quick, powerful, and has great projectiles need I say more?

6. Snake - one of my favorite characters of all time. His play stile is a little weird. I still have a lot to get used to with this one.

wow, you've changed your tune!

Finally got some good 1v1s in and used him more since half the people's Wii's I've been playing on don't seem to have Toon Link. He's just so fast. I spam f-air too much though. I need to stop due to stale move negation.

My favourite combo is u-air -> u-air -> u-air -> up+b -> glide+a

I love this game.

At this time, I'm only using, for the most part, only two mains when I play. I'll still mess around with some others, but I like to stick to some particular people.

Yoshi: From what I've seen and done, Yoshi is amazing. I haven't done any matches against people outside of my brothers and a single Wifi vs anyone team, but he's my favorite. He handles very nicely for me. I have some trouble with Metaknight (who my oldest brother mains) and Ike.

G&W: So far I'm liking the 2-D brawler. People are forced to play differently when I use him. I don't feel comfortable commenting if he saw a nice buff or a nerf from Melee. G&W's down tilt (The pothole) has better range but is far less spammable. I also miss his parachute.

Other then Yoshi and Game&Watch, I sometimes use Pokemon Trainer, Sonic, R.O.B., Lucario, and Falco with mixed sucess. I'll still have to experiment a bit more.

Oh, and Firestorm, that combo is pretty sweet. My brother uses that a lot on me.

So I'm not the only one noticing their not-so-predictable moves and actions. I having a bitch of a time getting used to that and finding patterns in their actions.

The Lv. 8s are Dodge/Evasion wh*** >_> Still, for me, they are the most fun opponents for me at the moment, since I love to use aerials O:

My tops(IN ORDER)

Ness/Lucas: I'm equally good with them, I can't help it. I abuse their aerials like a champ, I love to abuse pk abilities(Not Lucas Fire O:) like juggling with pk thunder(Ness) and annoying people when they're trying to recover(Lucas), using the PSI magnet, down tilt, Up-Smash, too good, too good :pimp: Oh, and spiking with them is my favorite thing to do O:

Toon Link: Projectile abusation, throwing bombs up in the air, and forcing them into them, kickass aerials, great knockback attacks, and the ultimate spike(If they don't dodge >>) to make them fall in a pit O:

DK: I never intended to be good with him, but I luv his aerials, strength, B moves, and knockback attacks. Setting up with the up-tilt, dash A, Uair, Up-Smash is a great string to use in my opinion on medium-sized enemies. And I love spiking O:

As you guys can see, I love spiking. Meaning I love to bash things in practice mode with ganandorf into a deep dark pit of pain with the electric foot(Ness's back air and falcon's knee are somewhat related along with ganondorf's feet and TL sword)

I have a question about assigning moves to buttons and so forth. I thought I did it, but my taunts still aren't assigned to my d-pad. I also tried assigning my whole configuration to my Wiimote manually, but that didn't work either. How do I go about doing this?

I have a few more impressions of the game. But first MY mains and why:

Main: King Dedede. First of all, how can you NOT love a penguin with a giant hammer. Come on now. His down throw is a lot of fun to spam, he has INSANE recovery for a heavy character, his smashes are super powerful, and he's just fun to play as. I can easily replace my aerial play style from melee for this guy's ground game. If only his F-Smash was a tad faster...mmmm.

2nd: Ike. He was my most anticipated character. He definitely doesn't disappoint. Amazing range and smashes, very nice recovery (chargeable side-B is coolio), and a decent aerial game. The fact that his normal B can hit in the small space BEHIND him is amazing. I just can't stop gushing over Ike's range, even with a lack of projectiles.

3rd: Pokemon Trainer. I never saw myself with this, but PT is a good dude. Squirtle's water gun highly impressed me, as it really messes up your opponent's recovery. Ivysaur is really "meh," except for the fact that his Up-Smash kills at ~60%. That was quite orgasmic. Ivysaur's recovery is pretty nice too. Charizard is a beast. He's hard to kill, dishes fairly fast smashes that deliver the damage, and has a cool aerial game (you have to love the fire breath F-air animation).

Impressions 2:
- Toon Link is so floaty, even his arrows seem floaty. Fast D-Air is a nice improvement over Young Link, but you can't L Cancel in this game, so it's a strange trade off.

- Lucario was a disappointment to me. His smashes are much slower than expected, and he can't really deliver a good kill until 100+%, unless Lucario himself has racked up damage on him as well. Fully charged Aura Sphere (Lucario @ 0%) only does 11-18%...

- Sonic is interesting. Homing B-move has a deal of strategy to it. His speed actually makes him more playable that other characters of his power, as it allows him to move far without having to roll all the time. His attacks are on the weak side, but I can see myself warming up to him.

- Snake has incredible mind game potential with his down-B (sets mine). You can lure you opponent to the mine, jump away, set it off, and hit them for an unexpected ~20% (good chance of KO at 80+%). My little brother gets me with this every time >_<.

I'm in the process of narrowing down my potential main(s). Currently:

1) Bowser: Somehow, he's better. I can't exactly place it, but I can actually beat people with Bowser now. I couldn't use him in Melee, and his buff made him a likely candidate for my main.

2) Kirby: Gotta love the little guy. He was one of my mains in 64, and I dabbled a bit with him in Melee, so I can use him well now by default.

3) Luigi: Similar story to Kirby. He was my third in both 64 and Melee, and with his buff, I very well may end up maining him.

4) Sonic: I need more practice with him. But he's fun to play as, and not too unnatural because of his speed. I usually spam moves, and Sonic redefines spam.

5) Pokemon Trainer: He's here because of one thing: Squirtle. The little guy is so easy to use, that he must be a god-tier candidate. I really didn't use Ivysaur, but Charizard isn't too bad. Still, the only reason I would use PT is Squirtle.

So far, this looks like my list. Since I don't actually own a Wii or Brawl, I don't get to practice much, which may explain why some of my best chars form the previous Smash games are in my top 5 now.

i was very disappointed when Peachs awesome floating ability was nerfed but i still use her and its my best character atm.

im also really good Pit i love his up B.

SWEET, I just beat the final boss, Tabuu, in the Subspace Emissary. That means I get to play as Sonic, and, well...I get the pleasure of knowing that I made it through that horrible, HORRIBLE maze.

I am still not out of the maze. Can anyone tell me where to go? I have all 4 door portal things open at the rest stop area.

Since apparently its the cool thing to do right now,
my current mains list:

1) pikachu: Just about the only thing worse about him from melee is the power of his up smash, it feels like everything else got buffed. Thunder is a crazy edgeguard/ top o' level killer, fair is a great approach, down-smash is the new whorenado, even his quick attack has a use now outside recovery now. Pikachu just feels... better.

2)Link: my melee main comes back largely unchanged. Slightly better recovery (but worse hookshot), better bombs, better arrows. Oh yeah, and his up smash rules now. I'll be damned if I let toon link steal his spotlight.

3)Pit: my high-tier choice. Pit combos incredibly well, and his arrows allow him to camp like no one's business. Shame he doesn't have more KO moves (actually scratch that, that'd break him)

4)Snake/Dedede/Gannondorf?: I'm not sure past number 3, but any of those guys look promising.

there should be a dot in the middle of the maze you need to go to once you've done everything, otherwise make sure you clear all the dots.

Anyone find it funny that the last level is basicly the entire game over again? It's like they did a think tank on how frustrate gamers as much as possible, and this was the winner.

I suppose I'll catalogue what I'm using...

Main: Lucario. He's got a great aerial game, good tilts, decent smashes, and I've always been great at staying alive, so he's a natural choice. He might not hit hard fresh...but, DAMN, does he ever dominate after a little beating. Motivates me to stay alive even more than usual.

Secondary Main: Kirby. He's back! His floatiness makes it all better, the scattered buffs bestowed upon him are just the icing. Only blind spot is struggling to kill heavy characters....like Snake. Damn Snake to hell.

Tertiary Main: Ness. Fooling around with him in Melee has made me good with him now that he's a beast again. I like his speedy attacks, but I stayed for the reliable killing moves.

Honorable Mention: Falco. I guess I never truly loved him, taking him on as I did when I realized Kirby could do no more for me in Melee. Still, he feels good and I can still use him decently...

Are you asking how you assign specific messages to taunts? If so, you go online under "with friends", go to the FC center, go under your own, and there should be a section for each taunt. If not, I don't know how to help, sorry.

I'm still trying to get the hang of Dedede, as he's probably the character I like most outside of Brawl. He does have some really nice attacks (B-air, side B, and U-tilt in particular are great), but otherwise he seems somewhat mediocre without chain throwing, which I haven't really been able to do well yet. For now though, I'm sticking with Metaknight, with some Ike/Wolf/Lucario on the side.

No, I already did that. I meant how do I reconfigure the controls for my Wiimote + Nunchuk. I went to the Controls option and made a new design, but my controller doesn't follow it. How do I change the controls on my controller, is my question.

Currently working on unlocking everything, or at least knowing how to unlock everything. I swear, that blue screen enjoys taunting me. Half the stuff on there is "Beat game mode in Entreme difficulty." Oh well, guess I know what I'm using my hammers for!

They definitely overcompensated with the 'reflexes' of the level 9 CPU. I can't even count the number of times one of them perfect shielded the first hit in a multi-hit move, and grabbed me as the next hit came out. No human could do that, and that's the only reason they're a challenge (major overcompensation). Seems pointless to even fight them.

15 minute multi-man brawl is a bitch.

#smogon, add me.

Also, I can't believe I have more than 150 songs left to unlock. All of Sakuraba's songs are amazing. Jungle Ver 2 (Donkey Kong Country), GOURMET RACE (Kirby Superstar), Golden Sun Battle Theme, Mario Tennis / Golf, SSBM Menu. He's a god.

You have to create an Entry and save the controller configuration to that entry. After that all you have to do is select your entry name in the character selection screen. I did that for the W+N and it worked for me. However, I don't know how you would apply this for Subspace Emissary...

Yeah they really get "nasty" as the name suggest. But still i find it harder to fight a human (any) for obvious reasons, i'm not really good but i try.

My main problem is that sometimes i fail what i want to do, for example if i want to land a side smash, i only do a side attack. I think i need practice, but for now i still think my plays faster than how i can execute them.

it's not as easy as taping down your analog stick and putting your dipping bird in front of the B button anymore. They can hit through it :(
