Hi everybody, if youve played, or even followed the tier during OMPL it shouldn't be of any surprise to you that the council has decided to suspect Quiver Dance!
The main strength of QD users is the sheer versatility of abusers the move has, they're able to pick and choose their other 3 moveslots with immense freedom due to how strong of a move Quiver Dance is. Substitute is a common option which lets it block Dragon Tail from Regenvesters, which are the most splashable Specially Defensive walls the tier has available, and in turn use them as set up fodder. Specially defensive mons with Unaware might seem appealing, but they get beat down by Venomoth Inheritors like Iron Crown who carry Psychic Noise, or get ParaFlinched by the likes of Frosmoth!Zapdos with Stun Spore + Air Slash, not to mention Stored Power cheese potential from Ribombee Inheritors, like Jirachi. Theres also the typing dynamic, while Unaware Corviknight might beat Quiver Dance + Air slash Zapdos, it struggles against Quiver Dance Heatran, and Ting-Lu might be good into the Psychic Noise and Stored Power sets, but loses to QD + Toxic from the likes of Enamorus or Zapdos. Quiver Dances +1 to Speed and Special defense also makes abusers incredibly hard to Revenge Kill, as you'd need a physical scarfer which is a naturally fast mon, like Sneasler or Roaring Moon, to outspeed and one shot whatever sweeper is in front of you, given you can get in before they snowball out of control.
While there are in theory "omnichecks" to QD like MG+Encore Blissey and Unaware Goodra-Hisui/Muk-Alola, they are in exchange very passive and redirect players towards fatter teams and longer games. You can also run 2 special walls to cover Quiver Dance sweepers, they only have 3 moveslots so they cannot cover every single special threat they want to. For example, Unaware Ting-Lu beats most QD sweepers and MGLO Heatran can cover the ones it struggles against, namely QD Fairy-types / SubTox users, however that is a third of your team dedicated to beating Quiver Dance, which leads to unoptimal team structures. Theres also the argument that they're hard to get going, with the tier possessing so many offensive threats it can be hard find opportunity for your Quiver Dance mon to setup, and most defensive mons they can use as set up carry tools to annoy them like Toxic or Encore.
How (Suspect Details):
During a Suspect test, each player must climb the ladder until they've acquired the GXE necessary to participate in the voting. Primarily, everyone that participates needs to make an alt account following these guidelines:
- Every game must be played on the official Pokemon Showdown! site and on a new account (creation date no earlier than today, July 12th) with "INQ"--for example, I could create one called "INQ man" to ladder with. Having the prefix at the beginning of your alt name is mandatory, AKA not in the middle (e.g. The INQ Man) and not at the end (e.g. Man of INQ).
- To qualify for voting, your alt must meet the required GXE and games played threshold; 75% GXE and 25 games minimum.
- Quiver Dance will be allowed during the suspect
- The suspect test will go for two weeks and end on July 26th, 6 PM GMT-5
- When posting proof of meeting reqs, feel free to use this thread as a means to disseminate topical opinions regarding whether or not Quiver Dance should be banned (Optional)
- It is mandatory to provide proof of ownership of the alt account as well. (Post a picture of your reqs with your smogon name featured)
