This gen feels like Gen 5 OU where there is some broken shit flying around but we have no idea where to start due to the broken checks broken nature of the tier.
i propose that we start by quickbanning everything higher than b+ on the vr, then retesting them one by one until we get to an actually balanced point

…this meta is in such a sorry state that i'm honestly not even sure if i'm kidding. can we just go back to 2013 and start over?

guys how do i beat kingambit + walking wake?
The most common way for BO is to Tusk + glowking (tera water)
Iron valiant can potentially solo both, but needs to be careful around tera
defensive teams can use blissey and donzo
clodsire + corviknight is also a somewhat decent defensive backbone
Kingambit can potentially clean both of them, but you need too much to go in your favor to be reliable
rotom can check both in an emergency with status and pivoting, but its not a definitive answer

Overall, in defense combine the checks of both, and you should be okay, in offense, try to out offense both with your own beasts, I know it sounds like a bare-bones answer, it seems like that sometimes

the playstyle with most problems toward this combo is rain, because rain boost hydro steam and most rain mons are frail and can be picked of by gambit, sun, on the other side, has its own wake, kingambit is good in sun, and you have mandatory access to tusk and torkoal which can take and treaten gambit out

you have to see what are the options for each and see what you can mix up, playstyles varies so keep an eye out

Great Tusk for Kingambit alongside Galarian Slowking for Walking Wake to take direct hits and having some offensive checks like iron valiant as mentioned above, your own kingambit with low kick and a lot of important investment, and some options that can give strong priority on the late-game for something like walking wake, stuff like dragonite extreme speed or baxcalibur ice shard, even scizor can be really cool for the late-game once you manage to weaken some stuff like gholdengo. Gotta have an offensive mindset and in a meta like that pivots alongside strong priority options can get you out of a pickle. Try your options, it is a wild meta so trial and error, patience, and if you get to force a tera to avoid revenge killing it is good imo. Best of luck.

Id take this slugfest over gen 8 any day of my life, the DLC stuff just makes try to tackle a balance option impossible, which is a shame, but at least it isnt so boring compared to every gen 8 metagame. Hopefully there is some stability soon to take some action, with like Bax which is soooooo ridiculous (as if on the 2nd DLC...)

Are you ready for Gigaton Hammer Ursaluna ?

is there, like, some internal memo at game freak to intentionally make progressively more broken shit every game and dlc update?

Ursaluna, Roaring Moon and Hoopa-Unbound to UU and Torkoal is back, I think we can see some trends in sun going back in stocks and 3 tremendous wall breakers that's have a bad matchup against baxcalibur at first glance and valiant too, I'll do a bigger post about the meta later down the line, for now, how you guys feel?

Tbh none of the drops are that surprising. Moon hates recent meta trends and is very Tera reliant. The other 2 hit super hard, but are just too slow to be consistent. Hoopa's lack of resistances and physical frailty hurt it as well, as it struggles to switch in without pivot support. Ursa is bulky, but its low speed prevents it from consistently threatening teams and gets chipped down very easily.

UU Trick Room is going to go crazy for like half a day before it's banned.

It's really funny looking back at people freaking out over Ursaluna and wanting it banned when HOME dropped. Turns out literally lighting yourself on fire kind of compromises your bulk, especially when you move at the speed of snail.

One the one hand Groundbros, we have gone from eight Ground types to six.

On the other hand, we now have two in top ten and three in top eleven.
