Project SV OU - Victim of the Week (Week 74: Assault Vest Hoopa-U)

Just a question, if Pokemon B knocks out Pokemon A, but faints due to recoil, can it still be considered a check/counter?
Or if Pokemon A faints to recoil whilte knocking out Pokemon B.
This is kinda a grey area so I’ll define it here - if something can always safely KO the Pokemon while going down to recoil in a single hit then I’d say it can be a ‘check’, but I think a Pokemon shouldn’t have to be KOed even by recoil to 1v1 something it ‘counters’.

Jolly Okidogi outspeeds Adamant Lokix by 1 point, funnily enough.
It resists Lokix's Bug STAB.
Okidogi is only a check though, as having its Band knocked off on the switch means it can't OHKO Lokix before getting 2HKO'ed

Zamazenta gets a defense boost on its first switch-in (Thanks a lot Zacian). So... no. Lokix will not plough through Zamazenta any time soon.
Having your Leftovers Knocked Off is only a minor inconvinience. Setting up on the switch is useless for Lokix, as it's too slow to hit you before you click Iron Defense, and Sucker Punch fails because it's a status move. Effectively wasting a turn for Lokix. If Lokix does go for Swords Dance, you get another free Iron Defense turn.

Congratulations, your sets will be added to our Hall of Fame! This week, we'll be trying to quell a storm that pairs some of its old tricks with newly-added mechanics in SV, posing a threat that not many Pokemon can answer both defensively and offensively. Now with a Loaded Dice and the threat of Tera Blast up its sleeve, what can you do to take on Dragon Dance Kyurem?

:sv/Kyurem:
Kyurem @ Loaded Dice
Ability: Pressure
Tera Type: Electric
EVs: 20 HP / 252 Atk / 236 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Icicle Spear
- Scale Shot
- Tera Blast
- Dragon Dance

Loaded Dice boosts Kyurem's Icicle Spear into a deadly 100 to 125BP STAB option, dealing massive and consistent damage along with another hard-hitting multi-hit STAB option in Scale Shot that can also provide a boost to Kyurem's Speed. Tera Blast Electric gives Kyurem the BoltBeam coverage that it's always dreamed of, with Electric hitting bulky Water-types while having the additional benefit of neutralising all of Kyurem's weaknesses. This comes in exchange for a single weakness to Ground-types, many of which it can hit for super effective damage with its Ice-type STAB. Dragon Dance allows Kyurem to boost its already impressive Attack stat, and even with an Adamant nature and without full investment Kyurem can still outrun key targets before and after a speed boost. DD Kyurem is a massive threat that can devastate teams both with and without support from its teammates - can anything brave the cold and dispel this hailstorm?

Submissions are open until Saturday, December 21st at 11:59PM EST
You may submit up to 1 check and 1 counter!

Deoxys doesn't need any speed investment to outrun a +1 Kyurem. With enough HP investment you can survive any unboosted hit and 2HKO with Psycho Boost. If you want to tera, you can make it a OHKO.

252 SpA Choice Specs Deoxys-Speed Psycho Boost over 2 turns vs. 20 HP / 0 SpD Kyurem: 452-533 (114.1 - 134.5%) -- guaranteed KO in 2 turns

Iron Hands is bulky enough to take two hits from anything Kyurem can throw at it. If Kyurem has taken any chip damage (or hits you with Scale Shot on the switch) you can easily KO with Close Combat even if Kyurem teras; without chip damage, you have to tera to guarantee the KO.

Just on a quick unrelated note, thank you all for participating in this project throughout the year, we really appreciate your participation and support and I really hope you've been enjoying Victim of the Week!

For our more regular participants who may be interested in this, we're looking to bring back some of our other projects leading up to the new year, with some returning faces hosting but also some new. Let me know if you'd like to give project hosting a try or have any ideas for new projects that you'd like to give a go, my DMs are always open! I can't guarantee that we'll be able to get something for everyone, but I would love for people to have the chance to give hosting a go - I've really enjoyed being part of VotW thanks to you all, and I'd love to get the community involved in making the OU forums an even better place to be. Thanks again!

- Swords Dance

While a one-time deal with booster energy, if you can get in safely, or switch in on a DD you should be in a winning position. Thanks to Booster Energy, you always outspeed Kyurem, even after a DD, and you can just encore their DD so that you can SD to threaten an OHKO with CC after they Tera. If the Kyurem has no access to Tera you can just CC and they're out. If it's a clean switch for both you're safe to SD, Kyurem has to roll a max damage 5-hit with Icicle Spear to OHKO. The chance of OHKO with just 4 Def EVs is slightly higher, so just 1 extra point in Def is all you need to maximize your chance of living, and the lost point in Atk doesn't matter.

248 Atk Iron Valiant Close Combat vs. 20 HP / 0 Def Kyurem: 428-506 (108 - 127.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

With its immense physical defense, Pecharunt can stomach hits from a +1 Kyurem as Icicle Spear is a 3HKO allowing Pecharunt to be somewhat flexible in slowing it down.
+1 252+ Atk Tera Electric Kyurem Icicle Spear (4 hits) vs. 252 HP / 228+ Def Pecharunt: 144-172 (37.8 - 45.2%) -- approx. 3HKO

The caveat is that Pecharunt means of dealing with Kyurem is at best either luck or context-dependent with one option being to gamble with Malignant Chain poisoning and confusing Kyurem or being able to Parting Shot to a teammate that can handle Kyurem at +0. Still, its a valuable roadblock to prevent DD Kyurem from completely running over your team.

Dondozo is a check. Switching into Tera Blast can be somewhat iffy if Kyurem has Terastallized, and its reliance on Rest for recovery means that it can be overwhelmed, but outside of that Dondozo's bulk, Curse boosts, and access to Unaware allow it to be one heck of a roadblock, especially if it can Terastallize itself to get rid of the Electric weakness. While it can't take advantage of the Defense drops from Scale Shot, what Dondozo can do is boost up and sit on Kyurem until either they switch out or Body Press becomes strong enough to KO.
