Agility Gallade is how he should be used this gen imho, and Protect is a cool tech vs what little can rk it after setting up (the first impression-ers and emergency defensive teras).
I've always been an advocate for jolly agility but I guess RU's speed tiers can allow you to use Adamant for funny resisted 1HKOs after tera.

WEEK 12
TYRANITAR

ttar.png
The king himself has dropped in RU in the last tier shifts so he's up this week ! I don't even think I have to present it to you so let's make it quick. Tyranitar is known to be a very bulky Pokemon thanks to its incredible stats and its ability indirectly boosting its Special Defense. While slow, it can hit the entirety of the tier with its great movepool including both physical and special coverage and utility, making it very versatile and prone to fit numerous roles. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to share your most creative Tyranitar sets and explain them in order to contribute to the growth of the RU metagame.

Iron Defense + Body Press Tyranitar

Tyranitar @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Iron Defense
- Body Press

- Crunch
- Rock Slide / Earthquake

With IronPress, Tyranitar act as a great Wall during the early-game, but also a very threatening Sweeper during late-game, as its Specially Defensive EVs and Sand Stream give it a wonderful Special Bulk, and Iron Defense gives it a great Physical Bulk, which make it unkillable but also very threatening with Body Press.

Leftovers help Tyranitar check Offensive threats and Setting up late-game. A Specially Defensive Spread allows Tyranitar to be unkillable on the two side. Tera Steel give it a very cool Specially Defensive Typing, and Grass and Fairy Resist. Crunch is its Dark STAB that hit Ghost and Psychic Types. The last slot if filler. You can use Heavy Slam for Fairy-Types, Rock Slide for Rock STAB and Flying-Types, and Earthquake for Poison-Types. IronPress Tyranitar is also a very good Stealth Rock setter during early-game.

Special Expert belt Tyranitar
Tyranitar @ Expert Belt
Ability: Sand Stream
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Ice Beam
- Flamethrower
- Dark Pulse
- Power Gem
(Funnily enough, this was used against me LOL)

So, special ttar is pretty basic on how it works, Stabs help you with normal tyranitar stuff, as well as giving some extra damage on stuff like S(G)Lowbros, and Ice beam and flamethrower cover the rest, flamethrower is good since it punishes the steel types like bisharp that might want to switch in, while Ice beam covers Wo chien, mudsdale, and other things in general, think its pretty neat overall since its kind of a unexpected set

Scarf Tyranitar

Tyranitar @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sand Stream
Tera: anything (some typing not weak to SR is better for longevity)
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stone Edge
- Crunch
- Fire Punch/Earthquake
- Ice Punch

Here we have a good Scarf user due to its niche 61 base Spe, which allows Tyranitar to speed tie with neutral 252 Spe EVs Iron Thorns and to outspeed base 60 Spe at +1.
This allows Tyranitar to achieve some unexpected KOs.
Crunch +Stone Edge is the dual STAB combination, whereas Fire Punch and Ice Punch is here for coverage. Earthquake is also a valid option, but be wary of Tera Flying/birds/Levitate users.

Focus Dance Ttar

Tyranitar @ Leftovers / Scope Lens
Ability: Sand Stream
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Stone Edge
- Ice Fang
- Focus Energy

Since dragon dancing is probably what most TTars are going to be running, I had a really funny idea for a set, and here it is. You get like one DD off, and then focus energy and you're golden. Ice Fang is on there to avoid being walled by mudstale or something like wo-chein. Scope Lens is also an item option if you want to make this even more offensive. On the plus side, this set does well against mons with defensive boosts, so keep that in mind.

Hi!
So this Tyranitar set is my debut entry in the "next best thing" competition, but I think it has a chance to work.

**Fighting-bait mixed Tyranitar**

Tyranitar @ Chople Berry
Ability: Sand Stream
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 184 Atk / 72 Def / 252 SpA
Quiet Nature
- Earth Power
- Thunderbolt
- Aerial Ace
- Crunch

So. In the current metagame everywhere I look I see fighting-type breakers. Not ideal for Tyranitar. So this set is built to bait in these fighting types and retaliate with a mixed attack. We have Earth Power for pawmot and blaze breed tauros, Thunderbolt for flamigo and aqua breed tauros and Aerial Ace for the likes of heracross and gallade. The last moves really depends on the team and sets, a STAB attack might be the best option, but Tyranitar gets a lot of great coverage like Hydro Pump, Fire Blast and Ice Beam

**UPDATE:** Originally Crunch was a filler move, but Rarelyme asked me to add a fourth move, so I added it. I noticed a few ghost and psychic types that ttar couldn't hit for super-effective damage with its other 3 moves, like bronzong and pallosand

I'm going to be honest, I'm not good with EV spreads, but having a bit of defense to take a close combat seems almost necessary.

WEEK 13
LUCARIO

lucario NBT.png

Lucario is next for this 13th week of the Next Best Thing RU ! Although he sucks in Super Smash Bros, here in RarelyUsed he seems to have found a comfortable place in the meta as a powerful wallbreaker or priority user. Ranked High Tier in the post-home Viability Rankings, Lucario shines thanks to its high Attack and Sp. Attack coupled with a decent speed stat at 90 making it faster than Rotom or Heracross. Thanks to Tera, he can also take full advantage of Extreme Speed to clean games. It can use Sword Dance (and Bulk Up...) or Nasty Plot (and Calm Mind...) to increase its power and Agility as well as the newly acquired Trailblaze to increase its speed. As per usual your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to share your most creative Lucario sets and explain them in order to contribute to the growth of the RU metagame.

Lucario @ Life Orb
Ability: Inner Focus

Final Gambit Lucario

Lucario @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Spe
Tera Type: Fighting
Jolly Nature
- Final Gambit
- Close Combat
- Extreme Speed
- Drain Punch

Here we have a different Lucario set, which is built around Final Gambit. This move allows this Lucario to get past it's counters if it outspeeds and if it has enough hp.
With 252 EVs, Lucario reaches 344 health points that are enough to take out other fully-invested base 70 health pokemons or uninvested base 101 hp threats, so you have to study the RU environment.
Final Gambit, although one shot, it allows Lucario to take out an incoming counter (normally impossible to get past to) after having damaged something else with a priority move or Close Combat.
At the worst, Final Gambit allows you to keep the momentum.
I think that this set is healthy for the format because it allows to use a more tactical strategy than simply using a set-up move followed by an attack.
Extreme Speed is picked over Bullet Punch for the extra power, priority and coverage, whereas Drain Punch is here to regain as many health points a possible. Close Combat because it is a powerful STAB to dish out some damage.
Tera Fighting to boost our STAB moves.

:lucario: with da gambling addiction, what will he do

Lucario @ Leftovers
Ability: Inner Focus
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 92 HP / 84 Atk / 80 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Metronome
- Life Dew
- Extreme Speed
- Protect

And here we have a regular Lucario set.

Ok but to be perfectly honest, lemme explain my reasoning for this. Of course Metronome is the funny move, and it's very very unreliable. But, for those rare high moments when it actually pulls a useful move (for example magicking up gunk shot vs. a florges) sometimes it's just not going to be enough. Thats when Espeed comes in clutch, as it provides reliable and solid damage and can both chip and save some match-ups. Life Dew is there for the rare instances where you can actually heal, and protect is there to get passive recovery via lefties. Tera Water was chosen just cause it's the most "consistent" defensive tera type, but depending on the teammates this thing gets paired with the tera type should be changed around. Just anything that deals with its weaknesses is enough. As for the EV Spread, since this set can conjure up literally any move, it can use both special and physical moves effectively, with a bit of bulk thrown in there.

So I hope you consider this, and I mean that. Yeah it's a funny gimmick strat, but it's the most viable the gimmick strat can be engineered to be.

84 Atk Lucario Behemoth Blade vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Diancie: 360-424 (118.4 - 139.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
80 SpA Tera Water Lucario Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Arcanine: 344-408 (89.5 - 106.2%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO
84 Atk Lucario Gunk Shot vs. 248 HP / 248+ Def Florges: 186-220 (51.8 - 61.2%) -- 94.1% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
84 Atk Lucario Wave Crash vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Armarouge: 204-240 (65.5 - 77.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

added in replays showing usage. Quality may vary.

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9ru-1927751391 This match i sadly did not win, but it was absolutely within my grasp. if i hadnt pulled fling I could have stalled out fortress's gyro ball and bug buzz

And if you ever doubt this set, just remember:
You have the power of the sun the entirety of pure hackmons in the palm of your hand. And even if you don't think this is a good set, just think for a second. Compared to the real sets people run, should this be the next best thing?

Do you really need 2 setup moves? Lucario!

Wrath (Lucario) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Justified
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Flying
EVs: 144 HP / 240 SpA / 124 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Aura Sphere
- Shadow Ball
- Calm Mind
- Agility

Been a while since I've been seen here..
Look, its really simple.
Force things out, Agility, CM if you're brave enough, win! (Preferable for late game).
A single agility gets you to 494 speed, which is FAST. And Im pretty sure Aura Sphere and Shadow ball are unresisted type combos? (H-Zoroark doesnt exist). Youve got the HP to live a hit, why not use it to set a CM? Seriously the set I was planning to use was worse than this. (Steel Beam HJK shenanigans..) Priority isnt going to matter if youre using it in psychic terrain. And since youre already outspeeding almost everything why bother.

Choice specs Lucario
Lucario @ Choice Specs
Ability: Steadfast
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Dark Pulse
- Aura Sphere
- Flash Cannon
- Vacuum Wave

pretty straight forward, Specs gives lucario a really strong breaking power, STABs with vacuum are pretty straight forward, Dark pulse server to lure slowbro and patches up the coverage on set decently, its pretty funny since it lures some common lucario answers like Mudsdale and slowbro

we ball

Endure WP triple priority Lucario

brrrr (Lucario) @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Inner Focus
Tera Type: Normal
EVs: 252 HP / 124 Atk / 132 SpA
Brave Nature
- Endure
- Vacuum Wave
- Extreme Speed
- Bullet Punch

yep. with a mixed triple priority set lucario can become a very scary late game sweeper.

Endure to take a supereffective hit to get weakness policy, lucario isn't that bulky

and then it's all out with priority attacks

what else do i need to say lol
