WEEK 10
MESPRIT
mesprit nbt.png

art by
Milena Gorosito on Reddit

Let's put aside genies for now and have a look at fairies ! Mesprit came from Pokemon Home like Tornadus and Hoopa and is now in NeverUsed. Nonetheless, it is still very viable in RarelyUsed. As a legendary Pokemon, Mesprit has great stats overall but as a result none of them really stands out. Good bulk and good offensive potential, the only stat where it seems to lack is its Speed with 80 BS which is still far from being bad. As such, even if we are used to see special Mesprit, let's keep in mind its access to Zen Headbutt, Play Rough, Drain Punch and the other elementary punches ! It also gained a new move this generation in Mystical Power which raises its Special Attack every time it hits. On top of that, Mesprit can set up hazards with Stealth Rock, pivot with U-Turn, inflict status with Thunder Wave, even set weather with Rain Dance and Sunny Day and be annoying with Encore and Trick (and Trick Room...). Then your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to share your most creative Mesprit sets and explain them in order to contribute to the growth of the RU metagame.
CM Tera Fairy:
Mesprit @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Draining Kiss
- Psyshock
- Shadow Ball
Submission deadline: Sets should be submitted by 11:59 am GMT+2 on Saturday, July 22st,
Voting deadline: votes will go until 11:59 am GMT+2 on Monday, July 24rd.

We are already 10 weeks in this Project so I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you who are bringing life to this thread, you're awesome guys. As my first project thread, I am very glad that it works this well as a place where people can have fun and share their ideas about the tier so big shout-out to you people ! :bellipog::bellipog::bellipog:

:mesprit:Encore Stored Power Mesprit:mesprit:
Meprit (Mesprit) @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Stored Power
- Draining Kiss
- Encore

The objective of this set is to set up using Calm Mind, on an opponent who has been blocked on an ineffective attack thanks to Encore. Once Mesprit is setup, few Pokemon will be able to switch into boosted Stored Power, except Dark-types. That's why we play Tera Fairy Draining Kiss to K.O. Dark types, then sweep with boosted Stored Power.
This set is played max Speed and max HP to be as fast and as bulky as possible.
Leftovers make setting up Mesprit easier.

As per the last board meeting we have instated a new :weakness policy:

Mesprit @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Levitate
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpA
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Shadow Ball
- Mystical Power
- Psyshock
- Draining Kiss

An interesting set that aims to switch in, proc WP, and hopefully survive. It's got the power, sure, for doing stuff but the main issue is that even with physical defenses this thing can get hard countered unless you pop a tera to live a crunch. It's for this reason that I've used grimmsnarl to set up reflect and improve the survivability of Mesprit. Otherwise this is good for at least getting some surprise kills and doing decently.

Offensive Rocks mesprit

Mesprit @ Leftovers/Choice Scarf/Heavy Duty Boots
Ability: Levitate
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 160 Hp / 252 SpA / 96 Spe
Modest Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Psyshock/Psychic
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt/Trick/Protect/U- Turn

Offensive Rocks Mesprit is an excellent Rocker due to its ability to threaten most if not all of the hazard removers.
It is also incredibly flexible in it's item slot and the last move it wants to use, even the Tera type.
Stealth Rock is a mandatory move and so if Ice Beam. The STAB option is your choice on what you want to hit.
The last move is ridiculously flexible with Tbolt, Trick, Protect, U-turn being the best options but stuff like gleam, thunder wave and energy ball is also really cool. Trick should only be used with Choice Scarf and Protect with lefties tho tbolt and u turn are perfectly fine too. If you go psychic, tbolt isn't really necessary but either tbolt/energy ball are needed if you go Psyshock but if you have a cloyster counter (lol) it's not needed.
Hope You Enjoy your days ahead!

:heat_rock: Weather Setting Mesprit :damp_rock:

Mesprit @ Heat Rock/Damp Rock
Ability: Levitate
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Impish Nature
- U-turn
- Healing Wish
- Stealth Rock
- Sunny Day/Rain Dance

With many potent weather abusers but no Drought or Drizzle in sight, We're forced to drastic measures. Most people primarily use Pranksters like Grafaiai, Klefki or Sableye for weather, but Mesprit sets itself apart with greater bulk than any of them and great additional support moves like Stealth Rock and Healing Wish. Healing Wish in particular is important because some of our strongest users of weather, Floatzel and Typhlosion, rely on their health, and they can use the momentum and healing provided by Mesprit's sacrifice to throw off even more high power Wave Crashes and Eruptions than they would typically be able to.

Mesprit @ Expert Belt
Ability: Levitate
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Lonely Nature
- Zen Headbutt
- Fire Punch
- Play Rough
- Grass Knot

gm gm, I hv mixed e-belt mesprit, it hits a lot of stuff and is poggers. knot hits muds, palo, and water tauros since intim drops its phys atk. This set kinda works since ppl expect weird stuff on mesprit like choice items and lefties, and this kinda baits those. its phys atk is 105 and with +atk nature it becomes quite strong.

Choice Specs Mesprit

Mesprit @ Choice Specs
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Tera type: Fairy
Timid/Modest Nature
- Psychic
- Dazzling Gleam
- Shadow Ball
- U-turn

Here we have a classic Choice Specs set, which is possible due to the combination of U-turn (to keep the momentum) and Levitate, in order to avoid damage from some hazards.
Psychic, Dazzling Gleam and Shadow Ball is here for coverage.
The choice between Timid and Modest nature is up to what you want to outspeed.

Alright time to vote guys, here are this week's submissions:
1/:mesprit:CM Encore by Hyper bol
2/:mesprit:Weakness Policy by Elec-ant1234
3/:mesprit:Weather setter by MachJacob
4/:mesprit:Mixed Expert Belt by C0nfiden1 0yster
5/:mesprit:Choice Specs by nameless90
Forest Guardian's set does not comply with the alternative restrictions mentioned in post 88: 3 items and 8 moves on a set is way too much.

My vote goes to 0yster and his mixed ebelt set, great job once again. Honorable mention to the weather setter one as well, very cool idea.

WEEK 11
GALLADE
gallade NBT.png

The Next Best Thing is back to celebrate these rather chaotic August tier shifts ! This week we'll be focusing on Gallade finally joining its female counterpart in RarelyUsed. Despite its middling speed, Gallade shines thanks to its 125 Attack Stats which is as high as Pokemon like Bisharp or Heracross. I'm sure you will find inspiration in Gallade's rich movepool including the precious Knock Off or Taunt, Will-O-Wisp, Trick and more. It also has set up possibilities thanks to Bulk Up, Sword Dance, Agility or even Calm Mind. As for the more out-of-the-box ideas you can notice Gallade's very decent special bulk which can be put to use or moves like Memento, Trick Room or Destiny Bond (hi Iron Valiant). As always, your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to share your most creative Gallade sets and explain them in order to contribute to the growth of this new RU metagame.
From the Smogdex

Sword Dance:
Gallade @ Life Orb
Ability: Sharpness
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Tera Type: Fighting
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Sacred Sword
- Psycho Cut
- Shadow Sneak

Choice Scarf:
Gallade @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sharpness
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Tera Type: Fighting
Jolly Nature
- Psycho Cut
- Sacred Sword
- Leaf Blade
- Rock Slide
Submission deadline: Sets should be submitted by 11:59 am GMT+2 on Saturday, August 12st,
Voting deadline: votes will go until 11:59 am GMT+2 on Monday, July 14st.

Offensive WoW Gallade

Gallade @ Razor Claw
Ability: Sharpness
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Tera Type: Fighting
Jolly Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Sacred Sword
- Psycho Cut
- Night Slash/Leaf Blade

General idea: offensive support Gallade
This is a way to use Gallade to soften opponent's Pokémons to the point the remaining team members can handle them.
Gallade can use Sharpness alongside a good Atk + Razor Claw and high-crit moves effectively. This makes this Gallade difficult to be scouted due to the good crit chance it has. Keep in mind that crits ignores Atk debuffs, so you are not forced to switch-out.
The general idea is to spam WoW when you predict a switch and, if you guess wrong, you can now withstand a physical hit thanks to the burn. WoW (and burn in general) is a huge support for the rest of your team even when Gallade faints.
Razor Claw is, in my opinion, a good pick as item because it is difficult to be scouted safely by the opponent.
Jolly nature over Adamant due to the lack of a priority move in order to use an additional coverage move with high chance of crit.

Assault Vest Gallade

Gallade @ Assault Vest
Ability: Sharpness
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Sacred Sword
- Psycho Cut
- Leaf Blade
Gallade has a surprisingly high Special Defense stat, which is made better from Assault Vest. This lets Gallade switch moves while being a very potent attacker and absorb Special Attacks with ease. In addition to this, it provides Knock Off support and 2HKOs Slowbro with Leaf Blade.

AgilityTect Gallade

Gallade @ Life Orb
Ability: Sharpness
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Agility
- Sacred Sword
- Psycho Cut
- Protect

I think this set should be one of the main sets when running Gallade in the tier. Basically Gallade main issue when playing with it its their speed tier (not enough fast to clean / sweep) and lacking of a strong priority move, while in the other side thanks to Sharpness + Life Orb + Tera you don't need at all Sword Dance. Sacred Sword + Psycho Cut is the coverage picked since are their main strongest move and both boosted by Sharpness. Finally but not least important Protect, Protect here has two objectives 1. prevents First Impression from Slither Wing 2. scout Tera in the opponent pokemon (i.e Gallade versus Krookodile which is gonna Tera Poison).
Fighting Tera is my Tera choice because since I'm not running Sword Dance and my coverage is very limited you really needs Fighting Tera + Adamant to pass certain threats as Alomomola, plus Fighting Tera help me against Sucker Punch Bisharp.

good teammates: Dark types such Tyranitar, Weavile or Bisharp are good teammates because can force defensive psychic types to Tera vs it. Hazards obviously are a great option too, including Sticky Web. Indeede is an excellent teammate as well because helps Gallade to boost Psycho Cut and prevents priority moves such Extreme Speed from Lucario & Arcanine.

good counters: Defensive psychic types like Slowbro or Uxie are their best answers, including Psychic Tera Alomomola which is very rare or Sableye which is not common at all. Extreme Speed from Lucario & Arcanine can revenge kill this set decently. Fast Choice Scarf users that start at 110 base Speed like Scarf Espeon can stop it at +2. Mimikyu is a good option as prevents from getting sweep it. Finally, priority Thunder Wave from Thundurus or Klefki can prevent Gallade sweeping in front of you even if both will die vs it.

Jolly Nature

twave is a really good midground into a lot of its checks like noivern and slowbro, ice punch lets u bop those birds more easily, went with tera ghost since that is best into slither wing
