WEEK 14
OVERQWIL

art by faruway on Reddit
Alright September shifts happened and with them arrived our focus for this week 14: Overqwil ! It has three useful abilities in Intimidate, Poison Point and Swift Swim which can imply very different ways of using it to take advantage of its solid physical stats notably its Attack as high as Pokemon like Pawmot or Flamigo. Overqwil also has a decent movepool with good utility move such as Spikes, Toxic, Toxic Spikes, Taunt, and Haze but limited coverage as it basically only have STAB + Water type moves at its disposal, it can also boost its stats with Sword Dance and Agility. As per usual your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to share your most creative Overqwil sets and explain them in order to contribute to the growth of the RU metagame.

Xin pulls up with the most basic set again:

SPIKY PUFFERFISH OF SPEED

Krook 2.0 (Overqwil) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Crunch
- Gunk Shot / Poison Jab
- Aqua Jet
- Waterfall / Liquidation

you dont even need to read to know what this set is about, outspeed, LIQUIDATION LIQUIDATION LIQUIDATION!!! may update later

Sd+ 3attacks (Overqwil) @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Intimidate
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 HP / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance / Fell Stinger
- Liquidation
- Crunch

- Gunk Shot/ Aqua jet
Er, that set Is simple. Any pokemon against u Will gET some attack debuff, you press sd, if a Ground type comes, let it dream and eq/earth power, and use liquidation/sd if you outspeed, and then terawater when the occasion comes. also, some aqua jet may be useful So feel free to replace gunk shot if your team dont need it. You may also take fell stinger instead of sd since its scarier but more optional (thought We have lots of bug-weak pokemon)

when the pufferfish likes suicide

Air Balloon Destiny Bond Overqwil

:Overqwil: Overqwil @ Air Balloon :Overqwil:
Ability: Swift Swim
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Rain Dance
- Waterfall
- Crunch
- Destiny Bond

Aight, this is the set. Overqwil sets up rain manually, which should be easy thanks to no weaknesses because of Air Balloon. Then it spams Waterfall and Crunch. If Overqwil struggles to hit something, just Destiny Bond that sucker. This (hopefully ._.) means Overqwil gets at least two kills if it gets a safe switch in. Its better if Overqwil isn't bulky as it can anyway take a hit and can hopefully die with its destiny bond up.

Defensive with Rest+Stockpile Overqwil

Overqwil @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 192 Def / 64 Spe
Tera Type: Dark/Water
Impish Nature
- Stockpile
- Rest
- Crunch
- Barb Barrage

Here we have a variation of the traditional defensive Overqwil that I think it may have a solid niche in the RU environment.
First of all, the combination of Intimidate, Stockpile and, if needed, the Tera allows Overqwil to use Rest with relative ease. At +3/+3 only crits can overwhelm the defenses.
Tera Dark/Water in order to get rid of that annoying Ground weakness since Earthquake is one of the best attacks in the game; look at this:
  • 252 Atk Choice Band Krookodile Earthquake vs. +1 252 HP / 192+ Def Tera Water Overqwil: 118-141 (31.5 - 37.7%) -- 0.2% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
Crunch + Barb Barrage is the dual STAB combination chosen for both coverage and utility, with nice secondary effects. In particular, Barb Barrage is particularly effective because it put a timer on an opponent not being Poison/Steel.

Team(mates) support
Something to deal properly with Steel-type pokemons is required.

If I were to hazard a guess...

Overqwil @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Poison Point
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 172 HP / 84 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Self-Destruct
- Spikes
- Taunt
- Barb Barrage / Toxic Spikes

The idea of this set is simple. It's a solid spikes setter that kinda just spreads around status, and can explode. Taunt helps shut down Altaria, and can Barb Barrage it to discourage repeated Brave Birds from it. It also spreads status on any physical contact attackers in the tier, noticeably having a decent shot at poisoning mons like Mimikyu and Mudstale who dislike being chipped, especially mimikyu who'll die faster than normal if its using a LO, and Mudstale who replies heavily on lefties to help its longevity. Also of note:

252 Atk Choice Band Krookodile Earthquake vs. 172 HP / 0 Def Shuca Berry Overqwil: 237-280 (66.9 - 79%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
84 Atk Overqwil Self-Destruct vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Krookodile: 210-248 (63.4 - 74.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

So you could get at least one SD off, which is funny

also tera ghost is there to spin block if you need it

completely irrelevent to the discussion but you have no idea how much restraint it took to not do an acupuncture set

Thanks everyone for the submissions, we've got some very interesting ones this week ! Let's see which deserves to win the most:
as usual sets are on the sprites :)
1/:Overqwil: Choice Scarf by Xin Nevrakis
2/:Overqwil: Sword Dance 3 attacks by Kin+ak (✧∇✧)
3/:Overqwil: Air Balloon Destiny Bond by CheeseBakon
4/:Overqwil: Rest Stockpile by nameless90
5/:Overqwil:Suicide Spiker by Elec-ant1234

Can't believe I'm unironically voting for Elec-ant1234 haha. I had a set like this one in mind to fit a suicide lead role with Self-Destruct boosted by the Normal Gem :worrywhirl: . So I'm voting 5 this week, good job !

Thanks to all voters, Elec-ant1234 is our winner for this week of the Next Best Thing with their:Overqwil:Suicide Spiker Overqwil set:Overqwil:!! Congratulations !

Thanks y'all for ye olde votese, and see ya next month after the DLC drops (And also in 2 days when we get some funny new moves).

And if you do use my Overqwil set, then I would actually recommend you try out Rarely's Normal Gem idea, if you want to be more offensive and threatening. Also did everyone else other than me realize that gems came back or

WEEK 15
DECIDUEYE-HISUI

Hisuian Decidueye.jpg
art by Lena on Pinterest
Decidueye-Hisui will be our focus for this week as the first DLC should not affect our tier too much for now (in terms of Pokemon pool at least). Decidueye-H has seen a lot of success with the RU players since it dropped. The main reason for it is that it can act as a reliable hazard remover thanks to Defog coupled with a good bulk overall and moves like Knock Off, Roost or U-Turn. But I think Decidueye-H's potential doesn't stop there. Its fabulous ability and its great Attack stat can turn it into a real offensive threat, especially when its devilish signature move is taken into account. Let's note that its Sp.Atk. is nothing to be ashamed of with moves like Leaf Storm, Energy Ball or Aura Sphere. Moreover, it can boosts both these stats with Sword Dance, Bulk Up or Nasty Plot. To make up for its rather low speed, it has two priority moves in Shadow Sneak and Sucker Punch. As per usual your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to share your most creative Hisuian Decidueye sets and explain them in order to contribute to the growth of the RU metagame.
