WEEK 9
HOOPA
hoopa.png
You know what ? Let's go on with another genie but a cute little one this time ! Hoopa made a dramatic fall to NU last shifts and has then become another toy for our tier as well. With the highest BST of low tiers with 600 (ignoring bad monkey) Hoopa has every reason to become a notable force in RU. With 150 Sp. Att. and its good coverage it can threaten the entire tier while staying decently bulky especially in special defense. It also has key moves in Knock Off, Taunt or Nasty Plot and Calm Mind to setup (and dare I say Trick Room??). The issue in Hoopa's profile thought is its remarkably low speed making Pokemon such as Tsareena or Iron Thorns naturally faster than it. But I believe Hoopa has bright days ahead in this generation and I hope you will be able to turn the table and make Hoopa's wish come true ! Then your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to share your most creative Hoopa sets and explain them in order to contribute to the growth of the RU metagame.

Nothing crazy inventive here:
Hoopa @ Choice Specs
Ability: Magician
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psyshock
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast
- Trick
Modest Specs lets you fire off attacks with nearly 600 SpA and requires no setup. Specs helps attenuate Hoopa’s STABs having low BP. It has few safe switch-ins, and you have Trick to cripple annoying walls like the rare Umbreon.

Hoopa’s lack of physical bulk, mediocre speed, and 4x weaknesses to Ghost- and Dark-type moves mean it can be threatened out by fast, physical attackers (e.g. CB Tauros Aqua/Blaze) or setup mons with a super effective STAB (e.g. Oricorio-Sensu). Water is just a good defensive typing, especially in Tauros meta, that removes your weaknesses and allows you to take 1-on-1 trades or buy 2-for-1.

Lead Hoopa
Hoopa @ Focus Sash
Ability: Magician
Tera Type: Psychic
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Destiny Bond
- Psychic
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast

was gonna go w sub salac but that seems too slow and boring to use, so got lead hoopa instead, it is as simple as it looks, get one/2 atks off, activate sash, maybe still some item with magician and dbond to possibly claim another kill on the way, this prob works better on more fast paced teams like HO

Nasty Plot Hoopa

Hoopa @ Life Orb
Ability: Magician
Tera Type: Electric
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
IVs: 0 Atk
Timid Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Shadow Ball
- Psyshock
- Focus Blast

Pretty linear special set, with the aid of Psyshock to split the damage even on the physical side of the spectrum and Nasty Plot to wallbreak.
Tera Type Electric (not mandatory to make good use of the set) is useful to avoid paralysis.

Thunder Wave Hoopa

Yellow Magic @ Heavy Duty Boots
Ability: Magician
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 SpA/ 252 Spe/ 4 Def
Modest Nature

- Thunder Wave
- Knock Off
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast

Twave + Knock is a very annoying combo and twave makes the best way to threaten Hoopa, which is by outspeeding it and forcing it out is removed Hoopa can become extremely dangerous. Shadow Ball + Focus Blast is perfect coverage in the tier as nothing resists both moves. I have seen the lot of people rely on switching in on resisted moves to threaten Hoopa out. For example, Switching Mismagius in on a Focus Blast only to get ruined by twave.....and one offensive answer down.
