Pet Mod SylveMons (Discussion Phase)

Jirachi

Going for physical offense kinda seems odd, but if we build a Hyper Offense or Offensively-inclined balance team or something around it, it could definitely work

Well, we all knew Rachi was gonna make it on the team eventually, right?

Some Rules: s/os to LC'S CCAT Thread
  • When posting a Pokemon, post it with a moveset, and a few sentences of description on why you think it fits the team and why you chose the moveset you chose.
  • When voting, you can only select one submission. Explanations of votes are nice but certainly not required.
  • Feel free to discuss other submissions, but please only refute others' sets with solid reasoning (as opposed to "I hate Sylveon so I don't want to include it").
  • Obviously, with a new metagame, sets aren't going to be as optimized as they can be, so we will give you some leeway in that regard, but don't submit stuff that would obviously be an unviable meme unless you have REALLY good reasoning behind it
  • Have fun!
For anyone who wants to submit but doesn't know much about the meta, here are some of the resources you can use, all found in the SylveMons Resources thread:
- Viability Rankings
- Role Compendium
- Analysis Database
- Bugs Database

And, for anyone completely unfamiliar with SylveMons, you'll need the archive of changes, too.

Round 3! Post a single Pokemon or core that you think can help our landshark dragon!

---

Garchomp @ Anguish Bandanna
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Fire Fang
- Swords Dance

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Ability: Housekeeping
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Wish
- U-turn
- Stealth Rock
- Play Rough

Agony Boots Manaphy
Manaphy @ Agony Boots
Ability: Hydration
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Tail Glow
- Surf
- Moonblast
- Ice Beam

A little unorthodox, but Manaphy provides the Lando check we desperately needed. Manaphy can switch into one EQ from Lando and immediately threaten it with Surf or Ice Beam. With this, if the Lando switches out, that's a free Tail Glow, making Manaphy a dangerous sweeper that can break open a team, further aided by Grachomp/Jirachi's Stealth Rock. Also, Manaphy really appreciates Jirachi's Wish so it can consistently check Lando

You gave it Scarf instead of Agony Boots lol

Alright, so the SylveMons Open has ended, so it's time to reflect

...

Well, only 3 sets were played in the whole tournament since real life happened to get in everyone's way. It happens

So, the only takeaway is that Articuno Veil teams are REALLY good as Articuno is stupidly bulky in Hail and under Veil.

Now, we made a promise quite awhile ago to open the final slate of SylveMons right before the SylveMons Open for some last second balancing. Obviously, we failed to give you that, but we believe in better late than never.

The final planned slate, Slate 15, for SylveMons is open!
Same rules as always, listed below
The Submission phase allows you to submit additions to the OU metagame. There are are four categories: Abilities, Moves, Items, and Pokemon Adjustments. You may submit up to 4 6 additions per category. Please also put all of your submissions into one post. The Voting phase lets people vote on which additions should be added to the metagame! You may vote for 6 additions per category. There will be at least two winners in each category. The Distribution Discussion is for discussing what should get access to the winning moves and abilities. When this phase ends, the council will determine what should get access to the winning abilities and moves.

Templates are in the OP

Move Additions (if any):

It's been a fun ride, but to keep an already huge metagame from becoming even more bloated, it had to end somewhere. Let's end it off right.

Oh, and the CCAT is postponed indefinitely, it may or may not continue after Slate 15.

Pokemon: Mega Garchomp
New typing:

New Moves: Bite, Feint Attack, Knock Off, Night Slash, Pursuit, Snarl, Taunt, Throat Chop
New Abilities: Intimidate
Niche: It makes way more sense, considering its look is a lot more ferocious and aggressive, characteristics often associated with Dark-type (see Mightyena, Houndoom, Tyranitar, Krookodile, etc.), and it's a lot more usable with this typing and ability. Plus, we don't have a physical user of Dragon/Dark type combo, and it would be way more effective than Hydreigon. I also added some moves that fit with its blades (Night Slash, Throat Chop), Dark-type utility moves (Knock Off, Pursuit, Snarl and Taunt) and some flavour (the remaining ones).

Pokemon: Emboar
New typing:

New Moves: Accelerock, Sandstorm, Stealth Rocks, Wide Guard
New Abilities: Blaze / Sturdy | HA: Reckless
Niche: First, among the Fire/Fighting-type starter, it's the one that uses its type combo at its worst (meaning it isn't used at all), and it's also the one that fits it less, considering it learns only Hammer Arm and Arm Thrust leveling up as moves of its secondary type. Second, it learns one of the strongest Rock-type moves, i.e. Head Smash, and it cannot use it at its best, since it isn't STABed and it consumes a lot of HP, giving it a 50% boost would be very good. Third, we have no physical user of the Fire/Rock type combo, and I could say we don't have one at all since Magcargo is very weak. Fourth, having very strong boosted STAB recoil moves is balanced by the plethora of weaknesses that the type combo gives it, including 2 4x weaknesses to Water and Ground, that are very common. Fifth, I'm proposing this to any metagame jut to see it once, I love this concept.

Pokemon: Shiftry
New typing:

New Moves: Air Current, Slipstream, Wood Hammer, Haunting Scream, Psychic, Psyshock, Vacuum Wave, Sonic Boom, Stone Edge, Ancient Power
New Abilities: Chlorophyll / Air Stream | HA: Aerilate
Niche: Second official user of -ilate Fake Out (after Mienshao), this can be a way to enhance this tengu. The Flying type always seemed more fitting for Shiftry, given its relations to wind (that’s why I gave it also Air Stream).

Pokemon: Gulpin and Swalot
New typing:

New Abilities:
Accumulate - The holder gains 1 Stockpile upon being hit by a move, and it also raises its Defense and Special Defense by 1; the effect activates a maximum of 3 consecutive times and it resets if holder switches out or uses Swallow or Spit Up.
HA: Poison Point
New Moves: Clear Smog, Belly Drum, Bide, Disable, Dizzy Punch, Double Slap, Fake Out, Flail, Focus Energy, Growth, Hyper Voice, Metronome, Nature Power, Recycle, Tickle, Trump Card
Niche: The aim is to make them annoyers, so I tried to give them as many sneaky moves as possible. I would have submitted them directly with both the new exclusive move and ability, but submitting Deoxys was already a stretch and I didn't want to exaggerate. Btw the concept focuses on storing energy, and the new movepool reflects that and the annoyer role, it will become perfect for stall, considering its high HP stat and its passive recoveries. Also, it is finally a way to make Spit Up and Swallow usable. It's thought for bulky mons that have no recovery, that will become even more bulky already after they endure a hit. It can also be combined with Stockpile to quicken the effect. This ability can be shared with some others buky mons.

Pokemon: Mega Blaziken
New typing:

New Abilities: Reckless
Niche: Just to downgrade it from Uber tier and to make it usable.
Name: Magician
Existing Ability?: Y
Effect: Swap user's Item with opponent's on switch-in.
Niche: You can either use it to pass status orbs to the opponent or to nerf the members on its team that rely more on their Item, like Gliscor or Scarf users.
Potential Pokemon With This Ability: Old Distribution, Mime Jr. line

Name: Cold Blood
Existing Ability?: No
Effect: Holder is immune to Fire-type moves and recovers 25% of its max HP instead of being hit by any of them; holder recovers 1/8 of its max HP at the end of every turn under Harsh Sunlight; Ice-type moves inflict 25% more damage and holder loses 1/8 of its max HP at the end of every turn (instead of 1/16) under Hail.
Niche: Another immunity to Burn could be beneficial, we only have Water Veil and Flash Fire that actually do that. This works as a Dry Skin clone, which means more Pokémon can benefit from Sun. I went with Hail for the damaging weather because reptiles don't really suffer rain or water, they suffer more cold.
Potential Pokemon With This Ability: Ekans line (instead of Unnerve), Seviper (secondary ability), Snivy line (secondary ability), Scraggy line (instead of Shed Skin), Druddigon (instead of Mold Breaker or Sheer Force), Tyrunt line (secondary ability), Treecko line (secondary ability), Salandit line (secondary ability), Lickytung line (instead of Oblivious), Turtwig line (secondary ability), Turtonator (hidden ability), Bagon line (secondary ability).
Name: Mimic / Mirror Move
Existing Move?: Yes
Category:

Type:

BP: --
PP: 15-24
Accuracy: --%
Effect: Copies last move used by the opponent and uses it immediately; the move replaces Mimic / Mirror Move in user's moveset until it switches out.
Priority: 0
Misc.: Both don't make contact.
Z-Move: can be performed with Normal / Flying Z-Crystal, but turns the copied move in its Z version.
Niche: An effect that is the combination of the two assigned to both. You can use it to copy useful moves you don't have, like status spreading moves (Toxic, WOW, TW, Confuse Ray, etc.), or hazards (SR, Spikes, Toxic Spikes, etc.), recoveries (Recover, Synthesis, Aromatherapy, Heal Bell, etc.), generally useful moves (Knock Off, priority, etc.) and everything your imagination wishes.
Potential Pokemon With This Move:
Mimic: Remove it from the learnsets of all Pokémon that learn it by TM in 1st gen and from the Move Tutor in 3rd gen, leave it only to those who learn it from leveling and breeding, but also to Basculin, Whishiwashi and some Fairy, Psychic and Ghost types.
Mirror Move: all Flying types that don't already learn it, Psyduck line.

Name: Hit Up
Existing Move?: No

Effect: More power with more uses of Stockpile; will fail if Stockpile wasn’t used by the user.
Priority: 0
Misc.: has the same properties of Spit Up, but it’s a physical move.
Z-Move: 100 BP Breakneck Blitz
Niche: A physical alternative to Spit Up.
Potential Pokemon With This Move: all the physical mons that learn Stockpile.

Name: Inhale
Existing Move?: Yes
Category:

Type:

BP: --
PP: 15-24
Accuracy: --%
Effect: Eats opponent's Item and recovers 33% of its max. HP. Fails if opponent has no Item.
Priority: 0
Misc.: User doesn't get affected by Item's effect.
Z-Move: Restores stat. changes in addition to its regular effect.
Niche: A Status alternative to Knock Off that is used to restore HP. It's one-time shot, but it can be used on any opponent.
Potential Pokemon With This Move: Gulpin line (it was thought for them, I can't think of others that fit)

Pokemon: Carnivine

New Moves: Fire Fang, Thunder Fang, Ice Fang, Poison Fang, Psychic Fangs, Crunch, Bite
New Abilities: Strong Jaw
Niche: Carnivine was given some changes in the past, but I feel like they weren't enough.

Pokemon: Walrein
New typing:

New Moves: Rinse Off, Recrystalize, Powder Snow
New Abilities: Fluffy (replaces Ice Body)
Niche: Custom moves that people forgot to give to Walrein, and an Ability that gives it defensive utility.

Pokemon: Kabutops
New typing:

New Moves: Shell Smash, Razor Shell, Psycho Cut, Cross Poison, Rinse Off
New Abilities: Knight's Blade (replaces Weak Armor)
Niche: Set-up sweeper Kabutops. Why it doesn't get Shell Smash but its counterpart and things like Crawdaunt do is mind boggling.

Misc.: Non-contact move.
Z-Move: 195 BP
Niche: Ice-type is bad defensively but good offensively. Why not run a move that hits hard, does Ice-type damage AND removes your own Ice-type?
Potential Pokemon With This Move: Walrein, Dewgong, Cloyster, Lapras, Vanilluxe, Rotom-Frost, Beartic, White Kyurem, Black Kyurem, Cryogonal

Z-Move: 100 BP
Niche: Vespiquen buff for PU? ZU?
Potential Pokemon With This Move: Old Distribution
Name: Cursed Body
Existing Ability?: Y
Effect: On switch-in, this Pokemon taunts opposing Pokemon. Pokemon behind a substitute are immune.
Niche: Gigantic boost to wallbreakers (Banette and Marowak), preventing opposing walls from recovering. Also great on Jellicent so it's not set-up bait, and great on Froslass as a suicide lead to prevent other leads from setting hazards.
Potential Pokemon With This Ability: Old Distribution except Gengar (would be broken)

Name: Time Warp / Magic Warp / Space Warp / Dimension Warp
Existing Ability?: Yes, in this mod
Effect: When this Pokemon in the field, a permanent Trick/Magic/Wonder/Inverse Room is set that goes away if the user switches out. Rooms set in this way cannot be replaced by other room
Niche: Someone suggested this to me awhile ago as a way to save Time Warp and honestly, now I really like this idea. Less bans are better plus it makes Pokemon like Beheeyem and Calm Mind Musharna scary sweepers
Potential Pokemon With This Ability: Old Distribution

Name: Loudspeaker
Existing Ability?: Yes, in almost every other miscellaneous changes Pet Mod No
Effect: Boosts the power of Sound moves by 1.3x
Niche: Generic, but considering how many there are, it's kind of a no brainer and actually surprising how this hasn't been added yet
Potential Pokemon With This Ability: Whismur line, Chatot, Mismasgius, Jangmo-o line, Kricketune
Name: Breakthrough

Z-Move: 170 BP Continental Crush
Niche: Articuno is really good and one thing that could tone it down would be to add a strong and accurate Rock-type move for opposing leads to use
Potential Pokemon With This Move: Rock-types, Ground-types, Some things that learn Rock Slide and Stealth Rock

Name: Invigorating Light
Existing Move?: No
Category: Status
Type: Fairy

PP: 16 Max
Effect: Boosts the user's Attack by 3 stages
Priority: 0
Misc.: N/A
Z-Move: Resets the user's lowered stats
Niche: Meant to be a signature move for Phione to make it a parallel to Manaphy's Tail Glow sweeping by allowing it to sweep with Aquatic Assault + Fairy Lock/Play Rough for STABs and coverage in Knock Off or something nutty like Z-Bounce
Potential Pokemon With This Move: Phione, Volbeat, Illumise

Pokemon: Dewgong

This change is made so SpD Golbat becomes an amazing counter to Kommo-o

Yoshiblaze can I submit Gulpin & Swalot, Accumulate and Inhale as a unique submission?
The move and the ability are both thought to be exclusive to them, they can be dangerous on other users.

I'd prefer it if you kept them separate, as if they win we'll make sure to make it Gulpin exclusive, but a similar thing happened with Deoxys and Regigigas where they had Abilities added by proxy that were automatically signature abilities, so you could that if really want to

I could submit only the ability as exclusive and the move as not.
