Heatran (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 244 SDef / 12 Spd
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Stealth Rock
- Lava Plume
- Earth Power
- Toxic
Heatran is my usual lead, setting up rocks early on, and providing the role of a sp def wall. Being resistant to toxic, as well as many resistances make him an effective wall. Along with Skarmory he walls most threats aimed at gastrodon, and is part 1 of my defensive trio. I've opted for lava plume, to go for the 30% burn that is always helpful, considering will o wisp over toxic, to better deal with physical types, but withheld due to limited opportunity to use. Also considering shed shell to combat those pesky dugtrios.
Skarmory (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 244 HP / 252 Def / 12 SDef
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Brave Bird
- Roost
- Whirlwind
- Spikes
I have always loved Skarmory since it was first released, and seen it as one of the best physical walls out there. Again with toxic immunity as well as flight to counter earthquakes aimed at heatran, with Sky high defences, he makes no. 2 in my defensive trio. The ability to set up more hazards is an added bonus, and also providing a much needed phazer that this team needs. Ive considered ferrothorn in this slot for better typing, but its Skarms whirlwind which won him this slot.
Gastrodon (Gastrodon-East) (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spd
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Recover
- Earth Power
- Ice Beam
- Toxic
I never thought I could like a slug pokemon, but theres something about this guy I really like. Not to mention he is the perfect filler for my final defensive core. Providing immunity to electric and water, while resisting ground, fire and rock, he really does provide perfect synergy with Skarm and Heatran, not to mention his huge bulk. Can hit hard with both earth power and ice beam, and while Ive considered scald for the burn, the coverage of these moves, particularly in dealing with dragons is needed. Toxic is again there to rack up residual damage.
Gengar (F) @ Black Sludge
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Shadow Ball
- Substitute
- Disable
- Focus Blast
I know Im a bit late on the bandwagon, but this gengar set really is awesome. Substituting to scout for moves, then disabling the powerful stab move aimed at him, really effective against all choiced pokemon, but also against fighting/normal types which only have 1 move to hit gengar. This guy acts as a check to the fighting types by core struggles with, as well as acting as the spin blocker. On top of that he can hit very hard with full neutral coverage and STAB shadowball.
Terrakion @ Life Orb
Trait: Justified
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- X-Scissor
- Rock Slide
The star of the team and late game sweeper. Terrakion is incredibly strong, being able to sweep through entire teams which have been weakened by entry hazards and poison. With great coverage, and dual stab, there are very few things that can switch in on this guy safely, and if the team is not prepared he can wreck havok.
Latios (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Draco Meteor
- Surf
- Psyshock
- Hidden Power [Fire]
The revenge killer on my team, being able to outspeed most of the meta game, latios makes the perfect revenge killer, with great coverage and dual STAB. He also makes a great counter to those fighting types I still struggle with, particularly with opposing terrakions, even then being a threat with x scissor. HP fire is for ferrothorns and scizors, Psyshock for a surprise to those special walls, and surf to deal with heatrans, which otherwise completely wall him. Considering thunderbolt to deal with bulky waters I have trouble with.
Threats:
Terrakion: Although measures have been taken to combat him, he is still a huge threat if latios is taken out, or a mis predicted x scissors lands. Being able to hit everything else on the team hard.
Bulky Waters: This is my biggest problem really. Sp Def bulky waters are really hard for my team to take out, with nothing super effective they can be a real pain. Particularly Suicunes which can start setting up over me.
Dugtrio: This guy is very annoying, and can be a big threat. Targeting Heatran, Gengar and to a lesser extend terrakion, if one of these is seen in the preview I need to be careful.
Im sure there are many others, but cant really think of them right now, but no doubt you will point some out that Ive missed.
