Barton got the ball. Lawrenson said on MotD it was just a good ol' fashioned strong tackle. He did make a nasty impact with Diaby but it was all in the same motion so the ref was spot on not to caution him. I suppose it's similar to the Tiote/Stevenage thing - good tackle but possibly a bit of dangerous play/intent?

As for Van Persie's late 'goal' the whistle went a good 2 or 3 seconds before he hit it and Harper didn't even bother trying to save it. You can't compare that to Best's disallowed goal which was frankly a travesty (although I suppose the second pen was a little soft...best was certainly fouled but i've seen those kind of claims waved off hundreds of times).

The Nolan thing...ehhh...it looked worse than it was because Scezny (or however you spell it) hit the floor like a sack of shit at the slightest touch from Nolan. And I swear, I HATE it when keepers try to stop the other team from getting the ball back up for a centre-kick. Why do they assume they have some right to hold on to the ball after conceding?

The fact is, blaming the ref is just sad. Like akuchi said, if you throw away a 4-0 lead you're going to have plenty of people to blame - the ref needn't be one of them.

It's my derby day today! Cardiff V Swansea. It's been a pretty poor match so far to be fair - hopefully the Swans will sort their shit out over half time. I had a nightmare that they lost 15-2 though (and then got dumped when I cried), so I can't complain too much haha

He shouldn't even fucking be there. It's a disgrace. If I ever see the cunt I'm going to gouge his fucking eyes out.

That said, Chopra was far worse - nasty, nasty challenges, and a blind eye from the ref. Cunt.

I share your hate for him after the nature of his departure from Newcastle (amongst other things, he told shearer 'you're not even good enough to kiss my arse' which I think still holds the death penalty up here) but what do you mean by 'he shouldn't even be here?' I'm curious (didn't watch the match...might watch football league show but I fucking hate maneesh for some reason)

Chopra's one of ours too hehe. I used to watch him in the reserves. Sorry!

haha he did? Christ. afaik [the commentators said so this afternoon] City are paying his wages, so Cardiff have a (crap) Premiership-quality player. Free. I don't blame them - god knows I'd want the Swans to do the same if the chance came up - but it's indicative of the absolutely ridiculous behaviour of money in football, in particular City. Just stupid.

Having said that, the Swans were dire for most of the match. We did, probably, deserve to lose. No spark at all. Shameful. Wasn't helped by the ref - yes I know it's important not to go mental about every challenge because it disrupts the flow of the game but there were some really unfair, nasty Cardiff challenges - Bothroyd and Chopra mostly that got nothing past a few free kicks and several stern tellings off.
Oh well. Done now. Just a shame. Liverpool beat Chelsea though, and that makes me happy. My soft spot for Liverpool is getting bigger by the day.

It was bound to happen. Man Utd haven't been playing great but have been getting results anyway whereas Wolves have been playing great but have been getting fuck all for their troubles.

You shouldn't be too upset though - the other results were very much in your favor. Fergie just needs to focus on going on another undefeated run to avoid a Chelsea-esque slump which seems a very real possibility now that they've lost their aura of invincibility.

England starting XI announced for friendly match against Denmark, KO 1915 GMT

This is how they'll line up

------------------Bent-------------------
---Milner--------Rooney------Walcott---
--------Lampard---------Wilshere-------
--Cole---Dawson---Terry-----Johnson--
------------------Hart--------------------

Best England could do what with the injuries and shit, but I was hoping to see a start for Downing given the form he's been in. Pretty boring bench England have :/

Bullshit bartman. Rooney cheats on his wife regularly (with prostitutes no less), Terry sleeps with his teammate's girlfriends, Gerrard has been charged with assault and affray in the past, Ashley Cole is a dick etc. Why should Barton be exiled? I agree with akuchi - he has been brilliant this season and his attitude has improved too. That little blip with Pedersen has likely set him back a few months but I think the nation will forgive him in time (we already have).

He spoke on the subject himself lately.

Jesus Altaria, this Eriksen's not half-bad!

barton is a massive cunt, but yes he does not deserve to be exiled from the team because of that. unfortunately, with wilshere being given a run i can't see anywhere for him to play in significant matches. gerrard, lampard, wilshere (and arguably barry when he plays) and are all better than barton in the centre of midfield. barton could probably play cdm and give gerrard some free time up behind the strikers, but other than that i don't really see him getting into the squad ahead of others.

Fine - the inability of Gerrard and Lampard to play together in the centre of midfield is legendary so I wouldn't write off Barton (or indeed Parker?) and Wilshere is what, 18? It would be stupid to rush him at this stage - give him another few years before making him a regular. And if capello insists on playing wilshere as a holding midfielder, it's pretty obvious Barton is MUCH better suited to that position.

If your argument is 'gerrard, lampard, wilshere...no more centre midfielders kthnkxbai' then its not a very good one.

i'm deleting my post above because i don't want to waste the ol' 1k on a football discussion!

anyway, you should know as well as i do that the gerrard + lampard issue is exaggerated to the extreme, it is merely legendary due to the hype created by the media. nevertheless, i'm not going to say they always perform well together, but they have in the past played some good football when together.

wilshere may be 18, but he has far more international experience than barton already. barton has played twice for england youth and once for the full squad, whereas wilshere has played 22 times for his country in total. obviously i am not trying to say that this makes wilshere a more experienced footballer than barton, moreover that the 'rushing him' argument is merely invalid as he has been eased into international football since he was 16. inexperience isn't really an issue when he is playing regularly at the highest class of football, as is barton.

scott parker is also a far better footballer than barton in my opinion and i'd even prefer tom huddlestone to play a holding role. yes barton is good, but not as good as the majority of newcastle fans like to think imo.

tl;dr: i'm not trying to say barton is a bad footballer, simply not as good as the plethora of midfield options we have.
