Background 1: Novax met Pluto as a Beldum during his journeys in the Hoenn Region. After wasting all his Pokeballs on the Beldum, Novax had to finally resort to use a strong magnet to hold on to Beldum and chug Ultra Balls from time to time until the *boop* sound was heard. As a Metagross, Pluto is one of the most dependable member of Novax's team and is often seen as one of the leading figures of the squad by others. Merit 1: Has the ability to come up with quick and clever ways to overcome difficulties Demerit 1: Overconfident about its own ability to tackle situations and thus doesn't like to take help from others Title (optional): Innovator Merit 2: Likes to defy rules and expectations. Demerit 2: Pie-in-the-sky optimist. Rule Alterations: In your signup post, choose any three (3) moves. Your Pokemon can use those moves during RP Segments, but when doing so there is a 50% chance for the move to backfire. (Aromatherapy, Taunt, Encore)

Background 2: Novax met Buttercup the Dratini during his visit to the sacred Dragonite Falls where Buttercup incidentally saved Novax from a rough situation and have been travelling together ever since. Riding on Buttercup's back and soaring through the skies is Novax's favourite activity to pass time. Buttercup has also participated in a few Pokémon flying races and made a bit of a name for itself. Merit 1: Extremely Charitable Demerit 1: Gullible and often gets scammed Title (optional): Legend Herald: Coastal Merit 2: Usually has a calm and serene disposition. Demerit 2 When they get angry, they get really angry. Rule Alterations: In your signup post, choose one of the following Pokemon: Groudon, Kyogre, Landorus, Thundurus, or Tornadus.
Once per challenge, during an RP Segment: the equipped Pokemon may call upon the selected Pokemon's Biology, Pokedex Entries, and Level 1* Movepool(in addition to its own traits). Choosing Thundurus for this run

Background: Before being rescued by Chrono, scientists experimented on her as a Nincada. This experiment was an attempt to cause her to cast off a Shedinja containing the soul of a particular dead person. It didn't seem to work though, and the effect was strange dreams and feelings of déjà vu: two things her trainer can relate to.

Background: The Shedinja cast off from Sumire's evolution. It acts... like a Shedinja should, floating motionless in its shell. If there's anything unusual inside, no one would be able to tell. Chrono is rather affectionate with it.
Merit: Unsettling to those who have done something wrong. Demerit: Doesn't act without instruction.

Background 1: Lance is my first pokemon, who I met when I was very small. I had taken a wrong turn in Viridian Forest, and found myself surrounded by a swarm of Beedrill. Lance, just a Weedle, came to my defense... but he was soundly defeated, and we both had to be rescued by a passing trainer. Lance stuck with me afterwards, and we made a promise that one day, we'd be the strongest. Merit 1: Utterly fearless, showing a complete disregard for danger. Demerit 1: Thoroughly arrogant, incapable of recognizing his limits. He respects precious few besides his trainer.
Background 2: Off the coast of Akala island, we met some local fishermen who were being terrorized by a gang of water pokemon. It turned out they were being led by Legion, a particularly cunning and influential Wishiwashi. Fortunately, some of his underlings had grown frustrated with him, and with their help we were able to capture him. Legion called off his gang, and the fishermen were able to continue their lives in peace. Merit 2: Quite well-connected, seemingly acquainted with every pokemon in the sea, not least of whom are his fellow Wishiwashi. Demerit 2: Unfortunately, due to his previous tyranny, a number of those connections hate his guts.
Seeing as how I missed the January patch substantially, thought I should give everyone here a status update.
What's Now (Tree):
I've run out of ways to meaningfully improve Tree.
So, I will likely start from scratch. You may call it a blank-sheet redesign.
If anybody wants to take on the torch in my stead, hit me up.
What's Next (Not-Tree):
I'll keep what worked, and discard the rest!
I think I was on the right track adding RP Segments; I received a lot of positive feedback regarding those, but the main complaint I heard is that they don't allow for a lot of back-and-forth. Considering how long Tree challenges already run, I can't just use Tree's existing design and add more turns to RP Segments. There would be too many turns... I'd like to find a way to capture the feelings of RP Segments, but in a more accommodating structure that allows for more back-and-forth between players.
By "The feelings of RP Segments," I mean, specifically, satisfaction from:
Players coming up with new solutions to problems on the spot,
Pokemon doing things according to their character, not their species or movelist, and:
Players showing off by looking for their own way to have fun.
I believe that there are ways of facilitating these feelings without the long labor that Tree and its battles entail.
I believe the risk incurred is justified by a high chance of success. I also believe that the potential cost of inaction is very high: a Facility that, if I don't make substantial changes to, is likely to languish with lack of ref interest.
But What About Megas?
If whatever replaces Tree can't award Megas, we can always find somewhere else to award them.
Thank you for your continued patience. I'll work to pay it back with something more fun and exciting than what we have now.
I am leaving the tree queue so I can use my priority pass for something else.
