The Everything NFL Thread - 2009

the bears offense is bad because their o-line is TERRIBLE, I mean close to worst in the league bad (its either them or san fran). cutler is basically carrying that offense right now. forte isn't exactly a gamebreaker, if he has holes to run through he'll get you steady yardage but he isn't close to an explosive player. the receivers are decent enough but again, cutler is running for his life every snap.

In order of who I think is going to be the worst:(Top 3)
1) Tennesee Titans
this is crazy.
Last year this team was one of the best, with Kerry Collins playing the best of his life.
What the heck happened?
I don't even know.
It might be the curse of the Terrible Towel...
Record: 0-16 (Win/Loss)
2) St.Louis Rams
this is expected.
The Rams have been terrible throughout the past 5 years, and I expect more.
Record: 2-14
3) Tampa Bay Buccaneers
It's really the same story as with the Rams.
Nothing much to say, except in 2007 (I think) they did good.
Record: 2-14.
My team (the Packers) are sitting on 4-2 so far, and I have high hopes for next week (hello Brett Favre.)

There is a 0% chance the Titans finish 0-16... Their secondary is just banged up right now, and their qb situation is looking pretty bad. Theyll at least win a game, if not a few

Among other reasons, Tennessee does have home games against Buffalo and St. Louis (one or both of which they might actually be favored in) so I would consider their chances of going winless in 2009 very low.
 
Damn... Dallas fell to 3rd place... Good thing is that Giants and Eagles play each other next and Dallas gets the Giants. If we could just beat the winner we'd be in first. So much to look forward these upcoming weeks.
 
It is Thursday and I am still disgusted with the way my Falcons played Dallas. So uncharacteristic. Though Tony Romo was good, our tackling was atrocious. I fear a fall to 4-3 is imminent, as we have to play the undefeated Saints Monday Night...and we all know what happened last time that happened >.<
 
I was really worried about the Falcons. They were showing great offense, and Dallas was showing terrible defense, especially in the secondary.

Luckily we pulled things together.
 
Yeah... I'm actually gonna go out on a limb and say the Falcons will win this Monday.. cuz:

1) I like the Falcons
2) The Falcons have never lost two games in a row.
3) The Falcons defense has put emphasis on forcing turnovers this year. I think they can get some pressure on Drew Brees and cause him to make a bad throw or two... (is that possible D:)
4) The Saints might have a bad day? lol

the post I made was just my opinion.
It's only what I think, not the true facts.

Brees made several bad throws against Miami (he threw 3 picks) and still won. If Atlanta wants a chance to win, they need to put up major points, control the clock, and their defense needs to FINISH the game. Forcing turnovers doesn't help you if a) you don't convert them into points and b) your offense gets off the field quickly. I think the Saints CAN be beaten, but the Falcons are gonna have to play alot better than they played against Dallas if they want to be the team to do it.

Why the Falcons can be the team to beat the Saints...

-Talented offense and a smart QB. Roddy White and Tony Gonzalez have been having solid seasons, and Ryan won't make the same mistake twice, he is a very smart QB. Darren Sharper is playing so well in his Center Field "Robber" scheme because these QBs are making it easy for him. I think Ryan can use his aggressiveness against him and make some big plays.

-Speed based defense. The Atlanta pass rush is based around speed, along with the stud linebackers. They MUST use their speed to get to Drew Brees, because if we can't, he will pick apart the worst part of our team...our secondary. Chris Houston = Crisp Houston.

Why the Falcons cannot beat the Saints

- While they do have a talented offense, they are struggling to pound the rock. As Miami has shown, the way to beat the Saints is to score early and often, and to keep the offense off the field. The Falcons cannot run the ball effectively and although the line has done a good job of protecting Ryan most of the season, the pass protection broke down last week. If the Falcons fall behind early and are forced into frequent passing situations, Matt Ryan is going to have a long day.

- New England and Dallas both had success on offense through the air and on the ground. Hell, even Carolina put up 23 points of the road against this defense. Now you're facing Drew Brees and Co. If there's anything we've learned, its that the Atlanta secondary, with the exception of Thomas DeCoud, is very sub-par. Also, the pass rush has become non-existent of late. Not a good combination against this Saints offense.

- They're on the road. Have you seen this team on the road? Have you seen the Saints at home?

Honestly, I don't see how people think the Falcons are still Super Bowl contenders at this point. A matter of fact you can make a strong case that they won't even make the playoffs.

Saints aren't going to have too much trouble with this team.

Carolina put up 20, and the last TD was kind of a garbage TD.
The pass rush has struggled in the past couple of games rendering our truthfully subpar secondary exposed.

I am really getting sick of home vs. away arguments. The NFC South is great at home, but the better team wins. The running game can get back on track this week. Atlanta has played three 3-4 defenses which excel in stopping the run in gap control. Turner had a good game vs. Carolina and an outstanding game vs. the 49ers. Jason Snelling did a great job last week running the ball. Even if the Falcons lose this game, I think their running game will get back on track.

This team is still a Super Bowl contender. They just have to tighten up some nuts and bolts. Losing Brian Williams was huge, but Tye Hill will be making his debut and his presence could (mildly) shore up the secondary. Losing our slot receiver Harry Douglas was also big. But this team still hasn't shown its true potential; its still dangerous.

i mean 2 weeks ago raiders beat eagles

not to mention look at how bengals first 6 games result ended up or how vikings got past ravens. shit happens
 
I'm not gonna say that the Falcons are going to the super bowl... But I definitely think they will get to the playoffs.
