The Everything NFL Thread - 2009

Also New England must play both the undefeated teams in consecutive weeks I believe. I wonder if they can stop both teams from achieving regular season perfection?
reminds me of when the '04 steelers took out the pats and eagles in successive weeks when they were both undefeated

the steelers are looking good, next week is going to be a great game with huge implications for the rest of the season.

i think both undefeated teams are slightly overrated but still very good. the saints seem to be struggling to contain the run a bit but i doubt that'll cost them much since they play mostly buttercups the rest of the way. additionally, they won't have to deal with any adverse weather conditions in the playoffs at this rate. indy can't run the ball as long as they don't give donald brown the carries he deserves, but the defense is looking pretty good right now. they may be the #1 and #2 best teams in the league but the gap between them and the rest of the league is pretty thin, if not nonexistant.

Firmly entrenched in second place for fantasy football, but I just can't help but think that the lack of Owen Daniels this season is really gonna fuck up my roster >_>

The great thing about Tight Ends is even the best ones aren't super high production. Outside of one or two breakout games, you're not gonna get more than 10 pts out of them. So if you were relying on Daniels in the first place, the rest of your roster needs some work. I would pick up someone like Kellen Winslow or Heath Miller if they're free.

Dallas Clark would like to have a word with you

Obviously there are exceptions to every rule. I mentioned Vernon Davis but for some reason (my own forgetfulness) I completely skipped over Clark. Even Clark has average days, he's not putting up 15 points EVERY game

WaterBomb, Owen Daniels was a top 20 overall fantasy player; yeah I don't rely on him but he was much better then you give him credit for.

Yes, he was briefly a top 20 fantasy player after back to back performances of 19.80 and 18.30 points. He also had games with 4.40, 4.80, and 2.20 points. The other 3 games were around 10 points each. So, out of 9 games, he only scored significantly more than 10 points twice. That fits perfectly with what I said previously about Tight Ends. In either case let's not split hairs over this, there are alot of very very good tight ends in the NFL, regardless of what Fantasy points indicate.

You're right.

He's scored under 15 points twice this season (week 1 and some other week, 7 and 13 points respectively) Granted this is a PPR league but in that same league only six Wide Receivers have more points.

Now I agree that not every TE is a Dallas Clark, but still, after the top 8 TE's or so, there is something like a 20 point dropoff.

That's a lot of points to lose

I know this is the "Everything NFL" thread, but I would like to see fantasy stuff have its own thread. It really clogs up the actual football discussion.

Week by week in my league (not including the week he was injured):

Wk 1: 8.40
Wk 2: 19.20
Wk 3: 14.80
Wk 4: 6.80
Wk 5: 17.40
Wk 6: 26.80
Wk 7: 25.30

And then he was injured the following week.

Looks pretty devastating to me, especially when Zach Miller was the next best TE on the waiver wire. There are a few really good tight ends but as Masaki said after the top few, there is a massive drop off.

There's a fantasy football thread somewhere on here; I have no idea where though.:naughty:

Ah, see there was a discrepancy because my league is not PPR, whereas yours obviously is. In that case then yes, Tight Ends are a major threat, but in non-PPR leagues they aren't as much because they tend to catch the bulk of the short and mid-yardage throws. They can still put up big numbers occasionally though, especially if their QB likes them in the red zone (see: Vernon Davis).

Forgive the initial disagreement, I didn't realize we were looking at two different scoring formats.

Week 10 picks

49ers
Broncos
Panthers
Saints
Dolphins
Vikings
Jets
Steelers
Titans
Raiders
Packers
Eagles
Cardinals
Patriots
Ravens

I sure hope so... since I'm pretty confident the Saints can't beat Atlanta AND Carolina in ATL and NC. So the Falcons MIGHT take over the division although I doubt they'd win. Would make the probability of a wildcard birth much more likely.
Lol, what? The Falcons are inconsistent and overrated as hell and the Panthers are simply no good. The Falcons have ZERO chance at winning that division.

is someone really entertaining the thought that the saints won't win that division

That person most not realize that the Saints have the easiest second half schedule in the league.

Or that they're really good

Here are my picks for the week -

49er's over the Bears - The 49ers are up 7-6 going into the 4th quarter as am writing this but I predict this win simply because I don't the Bears' defense is any good anymore and the 49ers have more Dynamic players on offense (That doesn't necessarily mean a Dynamic Offense) and defense.

Titans over Bills - Bill suck. Go Vince, Go. Chris Johnson is playing out of mind this year. Most Dynamic player in the NFL. And he'll last longer than Peterson too.

Saints over Rams - And how!

Phins over Bucs - I think both QBs will play well in this game but Ronnie will be the difference. And Freeman realllllly needs to play from shotgun more. He's horrible passing from under center but he's money from the gun. He really needs to work on that deficiency though.

Panthers over Falcons - Falcons love to beat the Panthers in Charlotte but Ryan has turned over the ball a lot as of late. Jake has not. Both running games should do well though. I'd point out the Falcons road record but Carolina's home record is just as bad.

Vikings over Detroit - Adrian Peterson regains the rushing title this week.

Jets over Jags - Sanchez goes off. As does everyone else on both offenses.

Steelers over Bengals - Both Defenses are playing well, but I think the home team will pull through. I never thought I'd say this for a while but the Steelers actually do have a better offense than the Bengals o_O

Broncos over Redskins - No Cooley and Portis? Worse offensive line this decade? I'll pass

Chiefs over Raiders - Wouldn't it have been awesome if Oakland signed LJ? Then the Chiefs would destroy them in a figurative "Fuck You" to Johnson.

Eagles over Chargers - I should probably go with the Bolts here because McNabb is going to be under serious pressure. A matter of fact, if McNabb plays poorly and the Eagles lose, don't be surprised if you start hearing the Vick/Kolb chants in Philly. I'm surprised they haven't started yet. But I still like the Eagles offense and defense better in this game.

Cowboys over Packers - The Cowboys have found their pass rush. And the Packers haven't found their pass protection. I don't know how much longer Rodgers can last getting killed the way he is. I'm really disappointed at the Packers' front office for not bringing in some talent at the line.

Cards over Hawks - Seattle hasn't won in Arizona in like... forever. Too bad James couldn't last long enough on the Seahawks to face his former team

Indy over Pats - Holy shit best game of the week, maybe the year. I'll take the Indy Mannings in this one.

Ravens over Browns - Why are the Browns on Monday night football?

Some observations I've made regarding the Baltimore/Cleveland game on Sunday after my last post on the subject:
1. I don't think Baltimore is as good as I previously gave them credit for.
2. The game is on Monday.

Still, while Cleveland could make this competitive and actually cover the spread, being a home Monday Night underdog and all, I still think Baltimore will win the game. Cleveland is simply not that good at all.

Another observation: Jay Cutler is not a good quarterback right now.

Cardinals defense better have a good game against the Seahawks, cuz I got the 49ers defense on the bench.

Bet you're dropping F bombs right now considering the 49ers just picked Cutler 5 times and held the Bears to 6 points XD

The Chiefs can't destroy a college team.

Good thing Oakland isn't a college team!

both of these statements are true

because they are both high school teams

i think i could try out for kansas city as a defensive back and make the team

why ARE the browns on mnf?

i have both vernon davis and greg olsen. and i started davis. in a PPR league. sad face.

You are completely underestimating how awful the Browns are.
