Yes ladies and gents, it's time for another wonderful year of football to start. So let's just get down to it!

One thing I wanna talk about is the preseason, and the fucking bullshit that it is. 2 games at the most is all that is really necessary, they need to limit the chance of injuries to people like Osi Umenyiora. It's a fucking travesty that he's gone for the season, and I don't care how much money the owners lose by losing one more game: the fans are already paying full price for an inferior product.

True dat.
Either lessen the number of games or just get rid of it.
Actually I heard they might make the regular seaon 18 games instead of 16!

Other than that.....GO PATRIOTS!!!!

So I'll start off with predictions. I'll keep it simple for now and predict the playoff seeds:

AFC
----

1. New England Patriots
2. Pittsburgh Steelers
3. Jacksonville Jaguars
4. San Diego Chargers
5. Indianapolis Colts
6. Cleveland Browns

NFC
----

1. Dallas Cowboys
2. Carolina Panthers
3. Minnesota Vikings
4. Seattle Seahawks
5. New York Giants
6. Arizona Cardinals

Feel free to discuss and/or make up your own, I'd like to see what people think!

lol, Patriots bandwagoners. Anyone remember how Deck Knight got the hell out of any football discussion after the Patriots lost in the Super Bowl last year? In any case, the Vikes look pretty solid this year so hopefully we can avoid any major injuries and make the playoffs for the first time in a while. I'm not too optimistic about any Super Bowl chances or anything, though. As far as predictions go I think it will be fairly similar to last year. I also don't think the Jets are going to do much, despite getting Favre.

The Vikes have been picked by more than one expert to not only make the playoffs, but appear in/win the Super Bowl. I think if Jackson plays slightly above average, they have a legitimate shot.

I'd love to go through the entire season game by game to determine where each team will finish, but I'll just go with playoff teams:

AFC
1. Jacksonville Jaguars (that's right, #1 seed bitches)
2. San Diego Chargers
3. New England Patriots
4. Cleveland Browns
5. Indianapolis Colts
6. Pittsburgh Steelers

I would love to put either the Bills or Texans in there, but aside from the Titans I really don't see any other team from last year not making it back; maybe the Steelers, or Colts if they can't stay healthy.

NFC
1. Dallas Cowboys
2. Minnesota Vikings (yes, I think they're THAT good)
3. Seattle Seahawks
4. New Orleans Saints
5. Philadelphia Eagles
6. Green Bay Packers

Really tough to take out the Giants, but after losing Umenyiora and Strahan, their defense looks suspect.

Preseason is a nice showcase for the rookies and those bubble guys fighting for a job. I could see it being cut a short a game, but two is iffy and it definitely shouldn't go away entirely. What happened to Osi is unfortunate, but the guaranteed starters could always just NOT play in preseason at all if they were so worried about injury.

One hours, guys!

alright lets go, here are my predictions:

AFC
1. New England Patriots
2. Jacksonville Jaguars
3. San Diego Chargers
4. Pittsburgh Steelers

5. Indianapolis Colts
6. New York Jets

NFC
1. Philadelphia Eagles
2. Green Bay Packers
3. Carolina Panthers
4. Seattle Seahawks

5. Dallas Cowboys
6. Chicago Bears

vikings + colts super bowl?

Vikings is a definite yes for me getting into the Super Bowl. The speed on that team is incredible and I think they can really work well together. I will have to see how the colts do in their opener but if they do what I think they will do (win by a large margin) I would pick them.

I will make all my playoff picks later.

Still no respect for the G-Men, while they lost Osi and Strahan, we lost Tiki last year and look what happened. Our D-Line is still filled with dynamic players like Justin Tuck and Kiwanuka, and our secondary probably got better from a year ago, with the addition of Kenny Phillips and the maturation of Aaron Ross. Not only that we retained Spagnuolo who is one of the best defensive coordinators right now, if not the best.

Anyway predictions:

AFC
1 New England Patriots
2 Indy Colts
3 San Diego Chargers
4 Pitt Steelers
5 Houston Texans
6 New York Jets

NFC
1 Minnesota Vikings
2 Dallas Cowboys
3 New Orleans Saints
4 Arizona Cardinals
5 New York Giants
6 Washington Redskins

i dont even know about tavaris having to play above average to make super bowl. after the travesty of 06 bears, pretty much any qb can get you there. vikings d isn't as good as bears, although still pretty good, but they have a more superior running game then bears did so who knows!

1. Jacksonville Jaguars (that's right, #1 seed bitches)

As much as I am a diehard Pats fan, I think you have this right. Brady looks like he's hurting, and we still haven't upgraded our D as much as we should have. I still think the Pats will be the number 2 seed, as you really shouldn't screw up this horrendously easy schedule.

Thats another thing, a team goes 16-0 in the regular season, so you give them a ridiculous schedule? The first real challenge imo is Week 6 @San Diego. Going through the AFC North twice is also a joke. Its almost like the NFL wants them to tear up the league again to bring in more viewers.

As a diehard Jags fan, I really hope this happens.

Being a little more realistic, Groves & Harvey won't make an immediate impact on the pass-rush we desperately need to keep Manning from shredding our defense, IMO.

Wide receiver is also pretty meh again...Our "big" acquisition, Jerry Porter, was injured and will probably sit out the opener...we have Jones facing trial for cocaine possession, and the rest are rather lackluster. Still, I think we can overthrow the Colts this season :D

So for my predictions:
AFC
1. Patriots
2. Jaguars
3. Chargers
4. Steelers
5. Colts
6. Browns

NFC
1. Giants
2. Vikings
3. Seahawks
4. Saints
5. Cowboys
6. Packers

Giants looked like they were going to walk all over the Skins after that first drive! They kinda slowed a lot, I don't know what it was but they still had 4 scoring drives in the first half... Skins made some awesome 2nd half adjustments on both sides of the ball. The Giants still looked awesome in the front 7 with the guys they had, so maybe that won't be such a huge deal. Eli was looking amazing until that TERRIBLE INT.

In other news, what does everyone think of Chad Ocho Cinco??

Quoting Bill Simmons on ESPN:

(Speaking of names, here's my goal for the Chad Ocho Cinco era: The Bengals trade him to a team that already has an established No. 85. Ocho Cinco keeps offering the guy money for his jersey. The guy keeps saying no. Eventually a bitter Ocho Cinco has to either offer him like $500,000, or wear Ocho Seis or Ocho Quatro for the season. Please, Lord, let this happen.)

alright lets go, here are my predictions:

AFC
1. New England Patriots
2. Jacksonville Jaguars
3. San Diego Chargers
4. Pittsburgh Steelers

5. Indianapolis Colts
6. New York Jets

Hey guys, it is me, Bill Simmons.

The only thing more meaningless than predictions is referees continually deciding games they ought not to.

Represent bitches!

Chargers are going 17-2 and winning the Super Bowl!

Carolina: 24-14
Denver: 35-0
Jets: 42-10
Oakland: 21-16
Miami: 28-10
New England: 35-21
Buffalo 21-20
New Orleans (London) 52-42 (GOTY) (This is the game Lights Out blows out his knee and still gets 3 sacks)
BYE WEEK
Kansas City 35-10
Pittsburgh 10-14
Indianapolis 28-14
Atlanta 42-12
Oakland 28-17
Kansas City 10-3
Tampa Bay 13-21 (Marmalard, Basketball Hands, Crime Time and LT get an early rest because the #1 seed is locked)
Denver 15-0 (That's right, the backups beat them and Jay Cutler scores zero points in both games, what a pussy)

Playoffs
Jacksonville 21-12
New England 24-21
Super Bowl
Seattle 31-14

Ya betta ask someboday!

Chad Ocho Cinco is a tool. Period.

To touch on DM's preseason comment, a starter could just as easily suffer injury in only one or two preseason games. The number of games doesn't matter. In addition, the preseason is pretty much the only significant playtime those guys buried in the depth chart get to see action. I think we owe at least that much to those players who sit the bench week to week, yet still put in the same work and effort as the high paid starters.

Re: tennisace - As I was reminded by MrE and Justin the other night, the NFL schedule is pretty much decided years in advance. The Patriots just got lucky that their opponent NFC divisions happened to suck balls in back to back years.

Alright everyone, a couple things to discuss:
1) Are Peyton Manning and the Clots done? Or do they still have a legitimate shot, and why?
2) How will the loss of #1 backup Charlie Batch affect the Steelers this season?

Unless Ben R. goes down I dont think that much. The guy is huge and can take a hit. The colts are only done if that offensive line sucks because of the loss of saturday

But cutting the preseason by two games already decreases the chances 50% (it's actually more, because the starters play more in the final two preseason games). The preseason should be for the guys who don't have their jobs already locked in place. Plax didn't play a snap of preseason football, and he only matched a career high in catches last night.

1) Are Peyton Manning and the Clots done? Or do they still have a legitimate shot, and why?

They're definitely falling off and will not win the division this year, but they'll still make the playoffs. They have Freeney and Sanders back, plus Harrison with a much better knee and Wayne still the best receiver in the league. Very dangerous team.

2) How will the loss of #1 backup Charlie Batch affect the Steelers this season?

He is one of the best backups in the league (along with JP Losman and Todd Collins), but I got to see Dixon play against the Bills in preseason, and he looked fantastic. Strong arm, quick runner, he has tons of potential.
