The season is about to begin, and you're all looking at the newest Buffalo Bills season ticket holder. Shit yeah.

So lucky. One of these days I need to actually go to a few NFL games live. By the way, DM... are they front row tickets? mid-row?

And yeah I've been waiting since January for this season to begin.

The Strahan thing is looking like a mess, but he is a competitor at heart, I think he'll be back for one more season, with a new contract or not, he knows after he retires hes gonna get paid by some network. Either way the Simeon Rice workout seemed promising and could be suitable replacement.

To be honest i would rather put in kiwanuka than simeon rice. Kiwanuka had a pretty good season when he came in besides a few really bad plays that don't have to be mentioned.

I liked Arrington and was kind of disappointed he was dropped and lets hope the linebacker corps doesn't get decimated like years past.

I still don't know what the giants are going to do at linebacker. They have Pierce who is great. But then they got rid of their two other starting linebackers arrington and emmons.

And the Falcons becoming predicable? They always were, they ran like 80% of the time between Vick, Dunn, and Duckett, and were the top rushing team for the past few years. Vick was really random and erratic with his passing, one game its 4 TDs the next its 4 INTs, thats why he runs.

I see what you mean, however what I failed to clarify is that even though you knew they were going to run, there were just so many options about who was going to run. Not many teams had the athletic QB that required defenses to use a LB to spy instead of to pass rush or drop into coverage. Then, when there was an I-form or a Split Back set, you really couldn't decide who was going to get the ball. Would Vick take it himself, or hand off to Dunn or Duckett? Not many teams had those options. Now that Vick is pretty much out for now, and Harrington isn't known for his athleticism, defenses can now commit 7 or 8 guys into the box in running situations without much risk.

Also, whoever knows (I haven't checked yet), did the Saints or Jaguars get/lose any important people since last season?

I know more about the Saints than the Jags, sorry.

The Saints lost Joe Horn to the Falcons but acquired David Patten from the Redskins. Not sure how much of an effect that will have. I will say that Joe Horn was one of the emotional leaders of the team, if not their best receiver, so he will certainly be missed around the locker room.

Also I'm not sure what happened to John Carney but it looks like he's been replaced by Olindo Mare from the Dolphins. And a quick glance at the roster shows that the Saints got Kevin Kaesviharn from the Bengals. He was a good SS for them, a tad aggressive but this will probably help the defense more than it will hurt.

Oh, and the Saints also got Dhani Jones from the Eagles. He's an average LB but he does have a decent men's clothing line, if you like bow ties. *shrug*

I thought I made this thread already ;) I am still very confused about one thing...why did the Houstons trade for Matt Schaub, and why would Atlanta possibly be upset they do not have him to rely on? Joey Harrington is no god, but he is better than Matt Schaub! Also lol Boston is not going to make it to the NBA finals, let alone win them. Unless the refs really decide to screw up a lot of playoff series again.

You never know this year, with new signings Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett, and their young up and coming talent almost ready to come of age.

Making the playoffs is a great accomplishment, I cannot fathom why people insist on not winning a playoff game as a sign of failure. I would much rather the Titans had made the playoffs and lost then miss out by losing that last game to the Patriots.

Uh, right. Because Ray Allen is better than Josh Howard or Amare or Yao Ming. Dallas, Phoenix, San Antonio, Utah, and Houston are all certainly better teams. Not that I am saying no one in the East is better, just that it seems fairly certain five teams are far, far superior to them. The Celtics currently (to make a broad generalization) are a worse version of the Denver Nuggets in team strategy.

Yea 49ers!

They're on their way to becoming the team they were about 10 years ago. Time is all they need.

The Broncos will win a super bowl in the next 5 years. I don't care what anyone says, Cutler will be good. He had a shaky start, but he was thrown in mid-season and once he got his footing on the ground started playing pretty decent. He has a great arm and good technique, and I'm fairly confident that in the next few years he will stabilize and at the very least be a good quarterback. The rest of the offense will be good and the defense will anchor this team down, like always. I don't see the Broncos having a fucking fantastic year, but I do see them making the playoffs in each of the next 5 years.

Edit - and with their shitty division, at the very least they should get a wild card spot. To be completely honest, I wouldn't be surprised if the Broncos came on top of SD.

best... thread... ever

GO PACK GO!

GET OUT OF MY THREAD

This year I will stay with the Vikings the whole year, unlike last year where I gave up on them about halfway through the season. I think they have a great team but a tough schedule, so it'll depend on if they can win the big games or not. As for conference predictions, here's mine:

NFC East
Dallas Cowboy
Philadelphia Eagles*
New York Giants
Washington Redskins

NFC North
Chicago Bears* (the Vikings may be good, but predicting anyone besides the bears would be insane)
Green Bay Packers
Minnesota Vikings
Detroit Lions

NFC South
New Orleans Saints*
Carolina Panthers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Atlanta Falcons

NFC West
Seattle Seahawks
San Francisco 49ers*
St. Louis Rams
Arizona Cardinals

AFC East
New England Patriots*
New York Jets
Miami Dolphins
Buffalo Bills

AFC North
Baltimore Ravens*
Cincinnati Bengals
Pittsburgh Steelers
Cleveland Browns

AFC South
Indianapolis Colts*
Tennessee Titans
Jacksonville Jaguars
Houston Texans

AFC West
Denver Broncos
San Diego Chargers*
Kansas City Chiefs
Oakland Raiders

So yeah, this year I will be cheering for 2 teams: the Vikings and the team playing against the Packers.

Okay, everyone who is saying that "every year is supposed to be the Lions breakout year" doesn't seem to be reading deep enough. Yes, their dumbshit GM Matt Millen keeps making flashy picks in the early first round of each draft, but anyone with a brain knows the Lions will suck every year because he's not bolstering their terrible o-line or building a worthwhile defense. This year will seriously be different though, if they aren't at at LEAST 7-9 this year, I will be very surprised. Kitna is one of the most underrated QBs in the league, he plays for a shitty team so he gets no credit for what he does there.

how was that game? i wanted to catch it but never got around to it - sc kind of made it seem like it sucked when i watched it this morning

Due to me being a Michigan native you'll have to forgive my hesitation to believe the Lions will win more games this season than I will complete sentences without making a typo today, as I might be more than a little jaded at this point, but I'm still not sold that the Lions are going to do anything different than they've done the last few seasons this year. It really don't think it's a coincidence that the Lions have constant disciplinary and motivational issues, and that they seem to lose more games every year than any other team in the NFL by 10 points or less, often in the dying seconds of games. For years and years there seems to have been an overwhelming problem with the mindset of the franchise, which seems to get mentioned by nearly every player who leaves Detroit and then manages to have a breakout year as soon as they are gone. In spite of their overwhelming mediocrity the Lions are still profitable enough that the people in charge don't seem to mind much - unless something happens to greatly decrease or remove the Lions' profits in a way that losing isn't I can't see them doing anything to change the morale or the mindset of the team, and until that happens I find it really unlikely they'll have any real success.

Ben Roethlisberger looked good

on two passes

Here's to hoping he'll breakout and finally become that star quarterback everyone's been waiting for

Not sure if anyone said this already, since i only read the first couple of posts, but even with calvin johnson the lions aren't going to have a breakout season. No matter how good Calvin Johnson will be, and he seems to be really good, he wont be the difference between them winning 3 games and 6 or 7 games. They need some type of run, because everyone knows that all the Lions do is throw the ball. How are they supposed to be successful like that? maybe with that trip WR'ing core they have they'll open up a lot of room for the run, but the lions don't really have anyone who can run it successfully down after down.

On the other hand, LETS GO JETS! Yeah sure they had a really easy schedule last year but Thomas Jones is going to pull a Curtis Martin. Now with a good running threat once again and our recieving core really showing signs of maturity last year the Jets are going to surprise a lot of people. And to all the Packer fans, tsk, tsk.

Oh yeah, i forgot that the lions didn't get tatum bell last year... and kevin jones isn't nice. Damn them having no running game.
