Why are the leafs playing such good hockey help

Can't shit on them anymore =/. They used to be my favorite excuse when people crapped on the Oilers (even though they were worse back then anyways =/).

Funny little tidbit, my friend wants to go to a Bruins and Leafs game (He's living in Toronto now) and hold a sign that says "Trade Seguin for Kessel! Oh wait..." Probably doesn't want to be murdered by Leafs fans though (and he's got to wait til Seguin actually performs before he can pull that stunt anyways...).

Luongo looked fine today. Made a few nifty pass. I don't see Lu keeping the choker label for much longer. Also, Raymond's shoot out move would have been sick, had he put tucked it into the net. Too bad Quick was just a bit to quick for him (zing).

E: No this is not too long

how the hell anyone can put the flames in playoffs at this point is baffling.

I mean the oilers did us a HUGE favor by hurting Ivanans, why that tool was signed is beyond me. It's okay though; we have a wide selection of useless old timers and rookies who wouldn't make the cut on competitive teams to replace him with, so we'll keep up a blistering pace.

Everyone in calgary was excited for our 7-0 preseason. WHAT DO YOU EXPECT when you put your full roster (basically) against a bunch of rookies who may be 3 seasons from playing? I am honestly, at this point, hoping we go 1-71 this year so that sutter will get canned. That guy is like a plague upon this team comparable to Lowe as GM in Edmonton.

The oilers, on the other hand, probably will make playoffs...but that's entirely dependent on many things: Khabi not being hurt/staying focused despite off ice issues (DUI), the rookies not only maintaining a better than average pace but not getting hurt/exhausted in the tough western conference and of course, that HIDEOUS blue line edmonton has actually showing up consistently. I mean when Vandermeer is even making the cut, you know you have to make some more cuts.

I don't think the Flames are as bad or the Oilers are as good as that first game made them look. Great matchup for the Oilers, for sure, as a fast team playing against an old, injured team, but the Oil got outplayed against Florida(lol... Florida) even though they won. They'll be fun to watch this year, but I can't imagine them in the playoffs yet. Flames definitely aren't going to be the best team in the conference(or one of the 8 best, probably) but they aren't the worst either - they'll do better against some of the slower, more defensive teams in the conference. Though the West as a whole(except Calgary...) is getting younger, which isn't going to be good for them. At least the Ducks seem to have the whole worst team in conference thing under control... jesus christ they look awful. They're going to be the first team in NHL history to get outshot by about 1200 shots over the year, I think.

EDIT: Speaking of terrible each and every member of the Rangers PK unit should probably consider sticking their hands in snowblowers Sakic style

Anyone see the amusing move that Wisneiski (Or however you spell his name) pulled on Avery? Made my day, but I'm thinking a fine might be coming his way.

And Edmonton was pretty damn crappy against Florida. Couldn't set up in Florida's zone especially during power plays, turned over the pucks all the damn time, couldn't make the passes hit the stick, and a whole other myriad of problems. I'm hoping that was an off day, and we got lucky with that win (especially with Horcoff's "kicking" motion shot).

You mean this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0JYeKEA5AoY

The Bruins sure seems to have gotten it right yesterday. Tim Thomas is too good to be taking a bench role. Not that I mind Tukka, but after his collapse in game seven last year and his below average showing on Saturday, I just do not think he is ready to become a full time keeper.

Yeah. It was hilarious to watch, not going to lie. Apparently Avery was steamed. Campbell's wheel of justice begins to turn...

Edit: In other news, Ribero was arrested and posted bail. Arrested for assault and public drunkeness. The official version is that he was drunk in a sushi restaurant with 3 others, one who was his wife. Apparently some sort of scuffle was going on and an off duty officer had to intervene.

Sweet! The Wizard still has some magic left in him! Fear the Red Wings, Them old guys are gonna work some more magic before they have to retire. 2-0 Start beating some big rivals has made me pumped!

Oh, happy to see that the Oilers and Stars are off to the same start too...
this is gonna get INTERESTING.

That's an AWESOME video.

I can't believe Hjalmarsson's hit on Pominville. He's not a dirty player, and what makes it even worse is Pominville has played the last 4+ seasons without missing a game. Taken off the ice on a stretcher, but it turns out he never even left the arena, so that's good. Concussed, hopefully it isn't too serious, but also I hope he doesn't rush back too soon.

Also, blew a 2-0 and now trail 4-3 with 5 minutes left. That hit seemed to take all the wind out of our sails.

Also also, Hossa is a cherry-picking fuck.

The refs in the Rangers/Islanders game were awful. Just awful. I know you can't fully blame the refs since the Rangers could have killed off those penalties, but their two best penalty killers (Callahan and Staal) were in the box at the same time.

Also, Thomas Greiss got waived by the Sharks, and teams have until noon today to put in a claim for him. I really hope he clears.

During a stoppage of play in the first period, Wisniewski and Avery chirped at each other. Wisniewski then made a gesture with his hand, directed at Avery. Wisniewski said he didn’t remember making a gesture

hahahaha, riiiiiiiiight.

Wisniewski probably isn't going to be fined/suspended because he did that towards Avery. But if Avery did it, he'd probably be kicked out of the league.

I dunno, I'm seeing a two, possibly three game suspension for this. As funny as it is, it's wrong, and I get the feeling this will get a harsher than usual punishment with the recent rash of gay teens committing suicide.

So WER's range is right and Wisniewski gets a pair(LOL!!!) for it. I'm not sure what I think about that. I wanted to be offended by the gesture. I really did. Was laughing too hard to get around to it. Considering how many possible career ending injuries have gotten 1 game or less this seems ridiculous to me. Ridiculous being a dangerous understatement. Don't like it.

Bold prediction: Hjarlaskdmskldnsdnsa.dna.l,nds.dn.dsson gets as many games or fewer for knocking a guy out of the game as Wisniewski did for trolling too well. Anyone going as the Wheel of Justice for Halloween?

Brian Rafalski is going to have his knee 'scoped, but Detroit Red Wings Coach Mike Babcock doesn't anticipate he'll be out for long. UPDATE: Rafalski will miss three to four weeks after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery.

Wonderful. Here we go again. I've seen this movie. Why can't anything just go right...

Honestly, I would argue as a player that while you don't want to see anyone hurt, that was a relally stupid play by pomminville. He sees hjal coming and deliberately doesn't grab the puck and positioned hinself to have his back turned. That's a completely avoidable situation if the player being closed in on decides not to be a puss about the wake up call he is about to get. Hjalmarsson could porbably have not followed through as hard on that hit but if you watch the replay you'll see what I'm saying about pomminville.

In other news, ruslan salei looks ridiculously good for the wings. He has made some amazing defensive plays, though the avs scoring and general speed and abilitly in the offensive zone has been suprisingly good as well. Dissapointments-jimmy howard, he is seemingly inconsistent thus far and some of the goals tonight were weeeaaaaakkk. Hopefully its just early season jitters and hell tighten up from there.

Anyone who has any faith (see: belief without evidence) that the flames will do fuck all is dreaming. They are counting on rebound years from what, half their roster? Yeah that's a tree sutter has barked up time and again and the only one that's worked out okay was Nolan...and guess who was the only one that didn't wanna stick around? YEAH

Jackal: as hilarious as that is, a tender kiss is entirely appropriate after scoring a hat trick in your first career game. Also the slowmo makes it SO much worse than it needs to be

I wouldnt worry 'bout it. All we've needed now is Doug Janik to plug the hole. At least Mule didn't go down in game 2 again...

ION- Jimmy Howard falls to the Ave's "Shoot the freaking puck whenever you get it" strategy... He let too many soft goals that prevented what should have been a 4-2 W >:(
Now Ozzy gets a shot @Dallas... This season is messed up.
