The Everything NHL Thread

*Avery turned to face Fleury
*Before Avery did a single thing

See, you're missing the most important part, like I said before, when Avery speared Fleury in the stomach. The Pens were protecting their goalie.

And Price wasn't horrible, but he wasn't as good as he needed to be. The shortie by Richards was terribly weak.

Sorry, but how does winning 2 games AT HOME give any strong indication they will win the series?

you're not in trouble unless you lose on home ice

Have I made my point, yet?

If your point was "I'm pretty impressively immature" then I'd say you've done a splendid job so far.

Anyway this round has been a little disappointing so far. It's nice the the Montreal/Philly series is looking like it will go 6 or 7 but the other three are all threatening to end in four isn't very entertaining, especially since I was hoping that this nice two televised games thing a night thing wouldn't go back down to one game every two nights until the finals. Kind of eager to actually see a San Jose/Dallas game since I missed the first three for various reasons as it's appearing my chances to watch this matchup are rapidly becoming limited. Really hoping Price can get rolling; I'm definitely not a Habs fan but I rather loathe the other three teams alive in the East and I'm becoming fearful of Pittsburgh sliding into the finals relatively untested.

Because being sarcastic is being immature.

Besides, I have a right to be a smartass about it, seeing as how I was one of the only people in this thread that actually said Detroit would beat Colorado. =\

If you get to be a smartass about predictions, to I get to be a smartass and tell you the series isn't over yet?

I do not really care to make a judgement either way about Shiven being immature or not, but how is being up 2-0 not a good indication that a team might win the series; home advantage is not THAT huge; yes, the Avalanche are far worse on the road than at home, but the Red Wings are amazing both places.

You get to be whatever you want to be.

Oh, and Combee, I think you meant 3-0, not 2-0.

Dallas lost at home, too, just a random fact. 3-1 series now.

Philadelphia managed to win 3 games in which they sucked.

They do not deserve to go to the next round.

No, I meant 2-0, because that was when he said 'being up 2-0 is no indication of winning a series', when it is (but not something that means it is certain, because only 4-0 does!)

An all Pennsylvania Eastern finals O_O but that is okay, the Stars will beat whichever team makes the Stanley Cup ;D

Meh, I mildly disagree with that. The Red Wings have a very inflated record due to their division.

lol how can you say that and claim to know very much about hockey.

Halak played his ass of last night. Only problem is that Biron is playing like a god. Montreal's scoring showed up for 37 seconds, but they've let both of their goaltenders down. Oh well, at least Philly will get asspounded by the Pittsburgh Malsbys.

Meh, I mildly disagree with that. The Red Wings have a very inflated record due to their division.

Still, though, I honestly think all 4 series are good as over by now...

I'm very proud of your ability to look at the records of the teams in the Central to determine how the Red Wings have done against them, however I would actually look at the results before parroting this fallacy next time.

The Red Wings had a losing record against Chicago and split against Columbus and St. Louis - the only team they actually had a winning record against in the Central was Nashville, who of course made the playoffs.

As far as teams that actually 'inflated their record," I'd look to a bunch of non-division teams that lost all or most of their games against Detroit(Colorado 0-4, Vancouver 1-3, Dallas 1-3, Minnesota 1-3, Calgary 1-3, for instance).

To add to everything..

Detroit's record against the Western conference: 47-19-6
Against the Pacific division: 15-5-0
Against the NW division: 15-2-3
Against the Central division: 17-12-3

The Wings were just above .500 against in division rivals in terms of actual wins and losses whereas all other records are much stronger. Looking at it another way, 60% of the Wings' losses in the Western conference, both regulation and OT, came against the central. Detroit was also 7-2-1 against those they played in the Eastern conference. I will concede that Detroit didn't play any games against arguably the toughest eastern division, the Atlantic, but that's beside the point.

the redwings suckkk all of you are noobkids

All Pennsylvanian finals looks interesting...the dirty players vs. the dirty divers...let's see who is in the penalty box the most this series!

Also, I wouldn't be so quick to undermine Philadelphia...they play a MUCH more physical game than the Penguins, and while I concede that skill is more important than physicality, the playoffs are all about toughness and physical play. I've said on irc a few times that the winner of Philly / Caps would go far simply because they are both such physical teams.

I'm actually going to pull a surprise pick here...the Phillies beat the Pens in 7 games, and go on to lose to the Stars in 6 games.

With Turco playing the way he is playing, with Morrow playing his brand of clean, physical hockey and with Ribiero and Richards continuing to perform at high levels in the playoffs, I don't see anyone stopping the Stars.

Even the Redwings.

Still, just from an entertainment perspective...I'm all about the Pens vs. Red Wings. What an awesome series that WOULD be...

Well, the Stars would have to stop the Sharks from making that near-impossible 3-0 comeback first. 3-1 isn't promising, but if it gets to 3-2, that's when the Sharks get super energized.

I'm surprised the Penguins were shut out. I was expecting them to lose, but not without responding to at least one goal.

Detroit's up 3 to 1 after the first period and the intermission report's playing for me right now. Colorado was playing very nicely up to the last two minutes of the period.

~EDIT~

Now it's the end of the second period, and... wow. 7 to 1? That's ridiculous. I think it's safe to say now that Detroit will complete the sweep tonight.

~EDIT 2~

Final score was 8 to 2. That was definitely not the game I expected to see tonight.

Pittsburgh game was pretty embarrassing. =/ NY got their first goal right as I hit 'Order' on my new Crosby jersey. Lol.

Luck of the draw moot :D

I happened too have been at the game and the atmosphere there was amazing. Rousing cheers of "Crosby sucks". Now all we have to do is take it game by game.
