GO HABS GO \o/

'Perfect' 1st round for my favourite teams, seeing both the Habs and the Av's got through.

Habs got outplayed by the Bruins except for game 1 and 7, so ashamed to say it, but this series was a steal for the Habs, Bruins deserved the win.

Yeah, but fuck the Bruins, they didn't deserve the playoff spot anyways.

Caps even it up, best of one now. Ovie scores two. It's ON now. Fuck Philly in their ass.

Very bummed if not completely surprised about my Caps and Devils :(

Went 6-2 in predictions but only got games right 3 times... as far as round two:

San Jose Sharks(2) vs. Dallas Stars (5)

This will be a really good series I think. San Jose is probably a better team, but I am leaning toward Dallas because in spite of playing a team that is supposed to be very physical in Anaheim they didn't seem to get worn down quite as much as San Jose did against Calgary. A few days rest will probably help them as well in the later games of the series. This one should last seven.

Detroit Red Wings (1) vs. Colorado Avalanche (6)

Something about making this prediction seems heathenish but I really don't have a very good feeling about this match up. We won the season series 4-0, but none of those games contained Peter Forsberg or Adam Foote and most of them didn't contain Joe Sakic or Ryan Smyth. Even without the players most people would consider their stars we nearly lost a couple of those games and they were one of a handful of teams that got to us physically(Lidstrom injury, for instance)... this will probably go to game 7, but I don't predict us winning this one seven zip.

But I sure would enjoy it if we did.

Pittsburgh Penguins (2) vs. New York Rangers (5)

Fuck Sean Avery Fuck Sidney Crosby Fuck Jaromir Jagr Fuck Sean Avery Fuck Scott Gomez Fuck Sean Avery Fuck Chris Drury Fuck Sean Avery Fuck Sidney Crosby Fuck Jaromir Jagr Fuck Sean Avery Fuck Scott Gomez Fuck Sean Avery Fuck Chris Drury Fuck Sean Avery Fuck Sidney Crosby Fuck Jaromir Jagr Fuck Sean Avery Fuck Scott Gomez Fuck Sean Avery Fuck Chris Drury Fuck Sean Avery Fuck Sidney Crosby Fuck Jaromir Jagr Fuck Sean Avery Fuck Scott Gomez Fuck Sean Avery Fuck Chris Drury

AND MOST OF ALL FUCK BOTH OF THESE TEAMS'S FANS

Isn't there some way they can both lose? Like a meteor or something?

Montreal Canadiens (1) vs. Philadelphia Flyers (6)

As the only team remaining I don't completely abhor in this conference I am putting my faith in Montreal, who conveniently I think is the best of the four games remaining anyway. The fact that Boston series went 7 games worries me, but Philly went seven as well so at least fatigue should be even. Power Play should be a huge factor here with both teams being so strong in that department, but while I'm sort of skeptical about the goaltending for both teams I am going to take Carey Price, who I like, over Martin Biron, who I do not. Habs in 6.

There are way too many teams still alive in the Pacific and Atlantic divisions. In spite of predictions, definitely rooting for San Jose, Detroit, Meteor, and Montreal. I'm not a big Sharks fan but I'd be pretty ok with San Jose winning because of Roenick and that would get me up to a 75% chance of a team i am satisfied with winning the cup. Montreal's fans would probably get on my list after winning a cup but honestly seeing what happens in Montreal in the 48 hours after a cup win would be totally worth it.

EDIT: Editing in some NHL.com article stuff because it fits my western conference pick perfectly

The teams have met five times in the postseason, all between 1996 and 2002, with Detroit beating Colorado in the Western finals in 1997 and 2002 — going on to win the Stanley Cup both times. In 2002, the Avs led the series 3-2, but Detroit won 2-0 at Denver in Game 6 and 7-0 at home in Game 7. The Avs beat Detroit in six games in the 1996 Western Conference final before beating Florida to win the franchise’s first Stanley Cup. Colorado also beat Detroit in six games in the 1999 Western semifinals and in five games in the Western semis in 2000. On both occasions, the Avs lost to Dallas in the Western finals.

Okay SO history is going to repeat itself and Colorado will go on and lose to Dallas. My next prediction is already set!

Canadiens over Flyers because Canada needs to win something, Penguins over Rangers because I am mad about being wrong

Avalanche over Red Wings because I hate the Red Wings, Stars over Sharks GO DALLAS

San Jose Sharks(2) vs. Dallas Stars (5)

Stars in 6, they just gave me a better impression during their series versus Anaheim then the Sharks did versus Calgary.

Detroit Red Wings (1) vs. Colorado Avalanche (6)

The coolest game to watch, I really love these matchup's. I think Detroit is slightly stronger at the moment, but Sakic needs more OT goals to add to his career total so I'm going for Av's in 7.

Pittsburgh Penguins (1) vs. New York Rangers (5)

I really want the Rangers out. Pittsburgh in 4. Fuck off NY

Montreal Canadiens (2) vs. Philadelphia Flyers (6)

Kovy should get his scoring touch back, Kostitsyn brothers continue their play, Saku is back fulltime and Price needs his name on the Stanley Cup in his rookie season. Canadiens in 6

fixed that in my post since its my fault

i guess i should stop doing this while i try to do exam reviews at strange hours of the morning

There's no way Detroit will lose to Colorado. Even if Theodore is red hot, just look at how well we've fared against them in the regular season.

Yet Montreal went 8-0 against the Bruins during the season, and the serie took 7 games.

The play-offs are an entirely new season.

Okay, let's do this by comparison, then.

Goaltenders: Chris Osgood/Dominik Hasek [Wings], Jose Theodore [Avs]

Chris Osgood
Osgood was one of the, if not the, best goalies during the regular season, and that hasn't changed since Detroit started using him in the playoffs. In those two games he played, he was scored upon once. He is not "red hot" so much as unlocking his talents.

Dominik Hasek
Meh.

Jose Theodore
He's on a streak. A *streak*. He's just now getting back into the groove of things, while Osgood has been performing consistently well throughout the post/season.

Overall
Detroit is in a better position, goalie-wise.

I'm not even going to go in-depth with offense/defense, because both teams have enough of each to validate several arguments.

Everybody can get on my case for saying Detroit will win after they lose. Which won't happen. Detroit's taking it in 6.

~EDIT~

If the Avs win, I guarantee the hockey gods will let Dallas win. If Detroit wins, it'll probably end up being the Sharks. =/

The top 4 teams in the East were Montreal, Pittsburgh, Washington, New Jersey.

Of the 4, all but New Jersey were on a 'hot streak'. In fact, the goal of hockey is to get hot right about late March. For proof, look at the Capitals, or the Habs, who were no where at Christmas, and are now the likely favorites to go to the finals. Hell, look at last year's Rockies...

Yea, Habs were almost as bad as Toronto played all season during December/January.

But hey, I <3 my Habitants, and would love to see them win the cup, but the next series is going to be really, really hard :( As long as Price continues to save fucking everything like he did Game 7 vs Bruins, I'm sure Montreal will pull through.

But notice how, after Christmas, they performed consistently. Yes, they started out like crap, but then they got their act together. That was three-to-four months of consistent play to earn their playoff spots.

How long has Theodore had this streak, though? Not nearly as long. He hasn't been playing at the level he is now for nearly as long as the teams you mentioned.

On a side note, comparing the East to the West is like comparing apples and oranges.

Shiven looks like a genius right now since it's 4-1 Red Wings early in the 2nd with none other than backup goalie Peter BUDAJ in net!

I guess Theodore was sick and even skipped the morning skate. Hopefully he bounces back with a strong series.

Fuck! The Avs had a chance to tie it with 10 secons or so left in the game!

For every game Theodore lets up, sick or not, I'm just going to post saying "I told you so."

This is just me, but every time we face a Colorado goalie in the playoffs and they get pulled, the "Oh, he was sick" statement comes to mind. Just look at 2002's Game 7... So many people kept saying OMG ROY WAS SICK.

I think this is the beginning of the end for Theodore's confidence, to be honest. Osgood performed excellently at the end when Colorado put the pressure on. Damn team almost tied it all up. :(

Lol, I'm just restating what the Versus telecast reported. Yah, fucking point blank save by Osgood.

I have strong reasons to doubt Jagr's intelligence. Knowing he will be hated in Pitsburgh for demanding a trade after building a dynasty, he said yesterday that 'Crosby and Malkin are not at the level that Mario and I were', or something to that nature.

I'm a bigger fan of Ovechkin than Crosby, so I don't really want the Penguins to win, and since Ovechkin isn't even in the playoffs anymore, the east is kind of null and void to me. However, after tonight, New York doesn't deserve to win the series. 3-0 lead and they lose 5-4. =\
