The Everything NHL Thread

Didn't Boston have a lot of game 7s last year? If I had to put money on a team to win the cup it would be the Kings, but the Rangers are almost too solid defensively and I'm not sure if LA will be able to break through them like they did the Blues or Phoenix. I'm also not sure if the rangers can break through a almost-as-solid defensively LA team, though more of LA's defense has come from their emerging offensive presence.

Pure 100% speculation......the finals better have a ton of day-time games so I can watch them without losing sleep.

First of all, good luck wishing that the NHL's idiotic schedule will meet a normal person's accommodations.

Secondly, thanks for reminding me that the Bruins lost Nathan Horton for these playoffs. Two Game 7 game-winning goals off the roster =[

And yeah the number of games isn't as big a deal in the NHL. Exhaustion is rarely a factor in the NHL playoffs. If the Kings end up winning it won't be because the other team was tired.

hmmm where have I heard this before??? oh yeah right before last years stanley cup final when everyone was saying the same thing about the canucks.

don't get me wrong, the kings will still be favorites, but to say it's just a formality is beyond ignorance.

learn to take a joke

Oh well, if we can't beat the Coyotes at home, I have no issues rubbing it in their faces in Glendale. Hopefully the biased-as-fuck commentators get Doan's dick out of their mouths long enough to acknowledge it.

As a fan of hockey, I'm glad this didn't turn out as bad as it could have. But as a former wrestling fan, this is hilarious:

If I could have animated sigs, that would go right in there rofl.

I know my Coyotes are pretty much done for, but a giant upset at this point to win 3 more games in a row would be cool. Even 1 more win here in Glendale would be nice.

I wasn't pleased that Doan got a penalty along with Doughty, for "holding" (or was it roughing, whatever).

L.A. Kings still in cruise control though, and they'll probably make it to the finals by the end of Game 6.

I think it's fair to give Doan a penalty there for roughing. While Doughty initiated it, and his actions were flagrant/vicious, Doan pretty clearly grabs his head in a headlock and then elbows Doughty before getting up. The question is what they should have called Doughty for. Holding clearly doesn't cover what he did there.

It's clearly interference, and Doan shouldn't have gotten anything. He didn't do jackshit.

Well that fucking sucks...go Devils/Rangers!

To be fair I actually told a co-worker I'd go with the Rangers (he's a NY fan, but supported Coyotes too since it's the local team), but really if either can beat Kings, I'll be happy.

Can't wait for that Flyers/Kings finals you bandwagoned after whatever you predicted first didn't happen

EDIT: Good for the Canucks extending Vigneault in spite of what happened in the playoffs this season. The right call.

THE_IRON_KENYANalright synre
THE_IRON_KENYANI had LA in the very first one I had
THE_IRON_KENYANand flyers kings was still pretty risky
THE_IRON_KENYANthere was the rangers left
THE_IRON_KENYANand the devils were there too
THE_IRON_KENYANas we all saw
THE_IRON_KENYANI say I still did pretty good

That's a good goal? Really? Wow. I've never seen a more obvious kicking motion allowed as a goal. Even if he was attempting to stop, it's an objective standard. Awful call by Toronto.

i dunno, that callahan goal was so borderline and the call on the ice was "goal".. easier to uphold the call on the ice than it is to overturn..

This isn't football, hockey reviews have completely different rules.

I also don't know about the one that just happened. Marty had it covered and the ref was waving it off, but Brodeur got pushed and lost it and it's a goal? Man, I thought that should've come back too. This officiating feels very home-biased, they also missed that blatant high-stick of Zubrus.

No, I don't care who wins this series, I hate both teams. I'm as neutral as you can get.

Dobber repost because my loves of hockey and wordplay typically don't intersect outside of horrific nhl.com article titles

Favourite quote of the day for me was from Tom Renney on Ryan Nugent-Hopkins: “Getting Nuge was important. It’s like playing Scrabble with no vowels. Nuge is a vowel and the guys on the outside will really benefit from Nuge.”

I think this might be my favorite metaphor ever

DDEEEEEVVVVIIILLLLLLSSSSS

after going an ok 5 for 8 in the first round, a wash 2 for 4 in the 2nd, i nailed both these for 2 for 2 and for 9 for 14 overall predicting series winners, which is ok i guess.

Devils vs. Kings, Devils in 7!!!
