I think the Sharks are playing better hockey than anyone else right now, and that if everyone had to play playoff games right now without any development they'd have the best shot at winning the cup, but its an 82 game season and then a 20~ game playoff for a reason. Injuries will happen, yes, but I'm more referring to team building and synergy building up. The Sharks had a couple big off-season moves(Boyle, McLellan) so it's surprising that they came out of the gate as hot as they did, but outside of those two this is largely the same roster that's been underachieving for years. McLellan has them playing more consistently in a system that's better suited for their talents, and a couple young guys like stud Devin Seto-iknewishouldhavedraftedhimagain-guichi, but I'm still not completely sure they'll do it. I've caught almost all their games this year(the home games start so late that they are almost always the best game on) and I've been consistently impressed by how good they've been to the point I've remarked I'd be surprised they didn't win the cup, but it'll be tough, I think. Nabakov got shaken up last week, and while it doesn't seem to be serious they can't win it all without him. There's also an issue that the Red Wings, the best competition in the West, are playing poorly right now but pretty much pioneered the system McLlellan brought to the Sharks, so if they do come around I think it'll be tough for the Sharks to continue "out winging the wings." They're in a tough division, as well, Anaheim is coming around and you have to believe Dallas will, too. They don't have a roster as good as the one in Detroit, or even Dallas, or some teams in the East like Montreal and the Rangers(who, by the way, don't look nearly as good on the ice as their record, IMO).
I guess I'm kinda torn, the jury is still out on them!
