The Everything NHL Thread

I used doodle because it is pretty impossible to coordinate when 12 people can be on at the same time by just "discussing"

I picked Sunday because it seemed to work for the most people, and someone had to make a decision

Sunday at 10:00 or 10:30 does seem to be a good option for everyone except gr33n, so I am going to echo synres sentiments and say that hopefully you can lose a bit of sleep that one night? take power naps!

I dont think this year was planned late or rushed, I created the league the first day I could and it just is not very easy to coordinate 12 people.

Words of a wise CBC producer on his twitter :

«Ok separatist Habs fans, stop booing Price. I know it's idiots of your type.»

I pray that his Toronto goalie doesnt allow 10 goals on 40 shots after trading another goalie that brought them, nearly by himself, to the semifinals. He might be stunned that many of those evil separatists live in his hometown.

Today, Price stopped the puck. I think he understands best what the booing were about.

Everyone in Calgary thinks that a preseason with a good game means Kotalik is going to be a monster considering he says "I'm feeling great and leaving my past behind me".

Looks like even if we lose everything sutter is staying, at least all the haters have rejoined his bandwagon. I'm done with Sutter unless Kotalik gets 30+ goals, Jokinen gets 25+ goals, Tanguay gets like 45-55 assists and Iginla gets 40+ goals. Also I want to see this new backup pull his fucking weight and for kipper to not pull the team to almost playoffs. Without Kiprusoff/Iginla the flames are a joke.

Watch he lets Giordono walk at the end of the season with zero return.

Reiterating and double posting in bold because this isn't a thread about fantasy it's about hockey.

Actually it isn't about hockey, it's about everything NHL. We are discussing a fantasy draft for the NHL which would actually be more on topic than discussing Olympic Hockey or the KHL. In fact, your post is pretty much 100% off topic seeing as it adds nothing useful to any NHL related discussion at all.

Anyway, I suggested that we make a new thread for fantasy since we have an entire sports forum, but nobody else seemed interested in the idea.

PS: Pat O'Sullivan looks like he is fitting in pretty well with the Canes so far. Very nice under the radar pick-up.

I'll try to make it for 10:00 pm then. Hope I won't be screwed out for sleep.
Next year I hope you guys can make concessions to me to do it in the actual weekend. ;)

In any case I'm going to continue working on getting into the league first, there seems to be a bit of an issue with connecting up/but ill be working on it, and as for the draft. This will be my last year of college puck so my Friday and Saturday nights free up after march of 2011 for mainly good hahaha.

In other news...team smogon of the eashl made the playoffs....any idea how that works exactly?

We got eliminated in our first match by accident. Me and Carl tried to play a regular game and for some reason it put us in a playoff game...

Hahahaha yesssss, team smogon round 1 losers, at least we made it. So seems like its single elimination all the way through the bracket then, that should be fun for the end of next month!

Can we play regular games now then or are we in an eashl "offseason"?

Yeah, we can still do regular EASHL. I read that games count for the overall ranking but not our division rank during playoffs... playoff match or regular. Apparently you have to go to "captains option" in the dressing room and select which game you want to do.. which is dumb but now we know! Also Kaleb, weren't you looking for a Hawks jersey for HUT? I have the white away one if you're interested.

In other news... Wade Redden on waivers (finally) and Cheechoo didn't make the cut in Dallas. Feel bad for both on some level... less so for Redden because he's still making bank if he plays in the AHL whereas Cheechoo is kind of unemployed.

It seems like a lot of eashl this year is learn as you go haha, but no craig, I did happen to purchase both the third and the white hawks jerseys with the proceeds I had from selling off some team logos and jerseys, though if you have a different jersey that the one I have ill take it off you for collection purposes

At least two of us are also interested in the idea, it would certainly unclutter this one. I for one am sick beyond belief of having the scroll past all that stuff to look for something I actually want to read. But I'm not going to go ahead and make the fantasy thread for you, it's not my place. Someone in the league has to take the initiative and do it.

I think itsz time for a new national powerhouse outside of the us, canada, russia and sweden. I think we should breed up some kazahkstanannys or really pull for smallenberg with team england.

This looks fun:

Nylander off the books for the Caps, since apparently Florida wanted to pay him to play on their AHL team ?_?

This is deeply confusing on many levels(especially giving cap relief to a division rival...?) but between that and the Theodore disaster expiring, the Caps have a little over 5m in cap space even after having to hand out some post-entry level contract raises. Can't imagine they leave that open all year... wonder what they do with it?

F Ian Laperriere will be sidelined indefinitely due to post-concussion symptoms. According to GM Paul Holmgren, Laperriere has been ailing since late last season, and he will be examined Friday.

------

I love Ian and it pisses me off. Add in Marc Savard's case to it : players should not be left with the decision to pick when they come back. In both cases, they either endangered their career or at worst ended it by coming back much too soon.

When there's doubt, on the line between a healing injury and a return to help a team in the playoffs, something should always make it tilt on the safer side.

Players dont all know whats best for them and something somewhere in the NHL's structure should slow down their return. This is something the Players' Union should also care about.

Captain Gionta said:
"Obviously, we came here, my family and I, and we're embracing the culture," Gionta said. "We enjoy living here in Montreal. It's a great place to be and we're going to do our best to learn it. I can't make promises that I'll be able to speak it fluently but I'll try."

Music to my ears. I understand hockey players have as we say here "other cats to whip", but just a "merci beaucoup" goes a long way, it is a mark of respect towards the fans.

Nobody's asking you to be fluent, Brian. But just a bit more than Koivu (who wasn't hated for it by any stretch) could manage in 10 years would be nice.

But probably still rooting for the Lightning this year... et on va Gagné.

While obviously it doesn't make a huge difference to me, I smiled when I saw that quote on yahoo, too. As much as the Habs fans are an annual source of annoyance for me I'm glad to see Gionta trying to reach out there; they deserve. Not surprised either, he's always been a good guy. Was a little bummed not to see him on Team USA this year for that reason, though probably it was better to go with what we had, lol.

I think a lot of the problem with so much of the decision being in the player's hands on this stuff(outside of the fact concussions are kind of inherently deceptive since it's not like you're spewing blood where you can see it) is a cultural thing. I mean like, hockey culture has always glorified people who play when probably they shouldn't. The playoffs, even, are almost always all about playing through injuries, some of which can't get worse, and many of which can. There's a big difference between playing with broken ribs or whatever and playing with a concussion, though, and I wish more players would realize that. Has to be pretty much the most debilitating post-career injury possible too, can at least function some without faulty arms or legs or whatever but it's a little tricky without a brain.
